Contra el culto a los ídolos
14 Varios ancianos de Israel vinieron a verme para consultar al Señor. 2 Entonces el Señor se dirigió a mí, y me dijo: 3 «Estos hombres se han entregado por completo al culto de sus ídolos y han puesto sus ojos en lo que les hace pecar. ¿Y acaso voy a permitir que me consulten? 4 Habla con ellos y diles: “Esto dice el Señor: Todo israelita que se entregue al culto de los ídolos y ponga sus ojos en lo que les hace pecar, y que venga luego a consultar al profeta, tendrá de mi parte la respuesta que se merece por tener tantos ídolos.”
5 »Yo les tocaré el corazón a todos los israelitas que se apartaron de mí por causa de sus ídolos. 6 Por eso, diles a los israelitas: “Esto dice el Señor: Vuélvanse a mí, apártense de sus ídolos y dejen todas esas cosas detestables.” 7 Si un israelita o un extranjero que viva en Israel se aparta de mí y se entrega por completo al culto de sus ídolos, y pone sus ojos en lo que le hace pecar, y luego recurre a un profeta para consultarme, yo mismo le daré la respuesta: 8 Me enfrentaré con ese hombre y le daré un castigo ejemplar, algo de lo que todos hablen, y lo eliminaré de entre mi pueblo. Entonces reconocerán ustedes que yo soy el Señor.
9 »Y si un profeta da un mensaje falso, es porque yo, el Señor, engañé a ese profeta; y yo levantaré mi mano para castigarlo y lo eliminaré de mi pueblo Israel. 10 Tanto el hombre que hace la consulta como el profeta serán castigados por su pecado, 11 para que el pueblo de Israel no vuelva jamás a apartarse de mí ni a mancharse con esos crímenes. Ellos serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.»
Jerusalén merece ser castigada
12 El Señor se dirigió a mí, y me dijo: 13 «Si un país peca contra mí y me es infiel, yo levantaré la mano para castigarlo y le quitaré sus provisiones de alimento; enviaré hambre sobre él, y haré que mueran hombres y animales. 14 Y si en ese país vivieran Noé, Danel y Job, sólo ellos tres se salvarían por ser justos. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
15 »Y si envío animales feroces a un país, para que maten a sus habitantes y lo conviertan en un desierto donde nadie se atreva a pasar por miedo a las fieras, 16 si vivieran allí esos tres hombres, no podrían salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; sólo ellos se salvarían, y el país quedaría convertido en un desierto. Yo, el Señor, lo juro por mi vida.
17 »Y si hago venir la guerra sobre todo ese país y ordeno la muerte de hombres y animales, 18 si vivieran allí esos tres hombres, no podrían salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; sólo ellos se salvarían. Yo, el Señor, lo juro por mi vida.
19 »Y si envío enfermedades a ese país, y en mi ira siembro allí la muerte y hago que mueran hombres y animales, 20 si vivieran allí Noé, Danel y Job, no podrían salvar ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas; sólo ellos se salvarían por ser justos. Yo, el Señor, lo juro por mi vida.
21 »Yo, el Señor, digo: Peor todavía será cuando yo mande contra Jerusalén mis cuatro castigos terribles: la guerra, el hambre, los animales salvajes y las enfermedades, y mate a hombres y animales. 22 Sólo unos cuantos quedarán con vida y podrán salir de allí con sus hijos e hijas. Cuando ellos vayan a ustedes, ustedes verán cómo se han portado y las cosas que han hecho, y se consolarán del castigo que hice venir sobre Jerusalén. 23 Se consolarán al ver cómo se han portado ellos y las cosas que han hecho. Entonces reconocerán ustedes que no me faltaba motivo para hacer todo lo que hice con Jerusalén. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.»

Idolaters Condemned
14 Some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat down in front of me.(A) 2 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 3 “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts(B) and put wicked stumbling blocks(C) before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all?(D) 4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When any of the Israelites set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the Lord will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry. 5 I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted(E) me for their idols.’(F)
6 “Therefore say to the people of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Repent!(G) Turn from your idols and renounce all your detestable practices!(H)
7 “‘When any of the Israelites or any foreigner(I) residing in Israel separate themselves from me and set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block(J) before their faces and then go to a prophet to inquire(K) of me, I the Lord will answer them myself. 8 I will set my face against(L) them and make them an example(M) and a byword.(N) I will remove them from my people. Then you will know that I am the Lord.(O)
9 “‘And if the prophet(P) is enticed(Q) to utter a prophecy, I the Lord have enticed that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel.(R) 10 They will bear their guilt—the prophet will be as guilty as the one who consults him. 11 Then the people of Israel will no longer stray(S) from me, nor will they defile themselves anymore with all their sins. They will be my people,(T) and I will be their God, declares the Sovereign Lord.(U)’”
Jerusalem’s Judgment Inescapable
12 The word of the Lord came to me: 13 “Son of man, if a country sins(V) against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply(W) and send famine upon it and kill its people and their animals,(X) 14 even if these three men—Noah,(Y) Daniel[a](Z) and Job(AA)—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness,(AB) declares the Sovereign Lord.
15 “Or if I send wild beasts(AC) through that country and they leave it childless and it becomes desolate so that no one can pass through it because of the beasts,(AD) 16 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.(AE)
17 “Or if I bring a sword(AF) against that country and say, ‘Let the sword pass throughout the land,’ and I kill its people and their animals,(AG) 18 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.
19 “Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out my wrath(AH) on it through bloodshed,(AI) killing its people and their animals,(AJ) 20 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.(AK)
21 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem my four dreadful judgments(AL)—sword(AM) and famine(AN) and wild beasts and plague(AO)—to kill its men and their animals!(AP) 22 Yet there will be some survivors(AQ)—sons and daughters who will be brought out of it.(AR) They will come to you, and when you see their conduct(AS) and their actions, you will be consoled(AT) regarding the disaster I have brought on Jerusalem—every disaster I have brought on it. 23 You will be consoled when you see their conduct and their actions, for you will know that I have done nothing in it without cause, declares the Sovereign Lord.(AU)”
