The Cost of the Tabernacle
21 [a]This is the number of the things for the [b]tabernacle, the [c]tabernacle of the testimony, as they were [d]numbered according to the [e]command of Moses, for the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 22 Now (A)Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the Lord had commanded Moses. 23 With him was (B)Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, an engraver and a skillful workman and a [f]weaver in [g]blue and in purple and in scarlet material, and fine linen.
24 All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the sanctuary, even the gold of the wave offering, was 29 talents and 730 shekels, according to (C)the shekel of the sanctuary. 25 (D)The silver of those of the congregation who were [h]numbered was 100 talents and 1,775 shekels, according to the shekel of the sanctuary; 26 (E)a beka a head (that is, half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary), for each one who passed over to those who were [i]numbered, from twenty years old and upward, for (F)603,550 men. 27 The hundred talents of silver were for casting the [j]sockets of the sanctuary and the [k]sockets of the veil; one hundred [l]sockets for the hundred talents, a talent for a [m]socket. 28 Of the 1,775 shekels, he made hooks for the pillars and overlaid their tops and made [n]bands for them. 29 The bronze of the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels. 30 With it he made the [o]sockets to the doorway of the tent of meeting, and the bronze altar and its bronze grating, and all the utensils of the altar, 31 and the [p]sockets of the court all around and the [q]sockets of the gate of the court, and all the pegs of the [r]tabernacle and all the pegs of the court all around.
The Priestly Garments
39 Moreover, from the [s](G)blue and purple and scarlet material, they made finely (H)woven garments for ministering in the holy place [t]as well as the holy garments which were for Aaron, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
2 (I)He made the ephod of gold, and of [u]blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen. 3 Then they hammered out gold sheets and cut them into threads [v]to be woven in with the [w]blue and the purple and the scarlet material, and the fine linen, the work of a skillful workman. 4 They made attaching shoulder pieces for [x]the ephod; it was attached at its two upper ends. 5 The skillfully woven band which was on it was like its workmanship, [y]of the same material: of gold and of [z]blue and purple and scarlet material, and fine twisted linen, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
6 (J)They made the onyx stones, set in gold filigree settings; they were engraved like the engravings of a signet, according to the names of the sons of Israel. 7 And (K)he placed them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as memorial stones for the sons of Israel, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
8 (L)He made the breastpiece, the work of a skillful workman, like the workmanship of the ephod: of gold and of [aa]blue and purple and scarlet material and fine twisted linen. 9 It was square; they made the breastpiece folded double, a span [ab]long and a span [ac]wide when folded double. 10 And they [ad]mounted four rows of stones on it. The first row was a row of ruby, topaz, and emerald; 11 and the second row, a turquoise, a sapphire and a diamond; 12 and the third row, a jacinth, an agate, and an amethyst; 13 and the fourth row, a beryl, an onyx, and a jasper. They were set in gold filigree settings when they were [ae]mounted. 14 The stones were corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel; they were twelve, corresponding to their names, engraved with the engravings of a signet, each with its name for the twelve tribes. 15 They made on the breastpiece chains like cords, of twisted cordage work in pure gold. 16 They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and put the two rings on the two ends of the breastpiece. 17 Then they put the two gold cords in the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece. 18 They put the other two ends of the two cords on the two filigree settings, and put them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front of it. 19 They made two gold rings and placed them on the two ends of the breastpiece, on its inner edge which was next to the ephod. 20 Furthermore, they made two gold rings and placed them on the bottom of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, on the front of it, close to the place where it joined, above the woven band of the ephod. 21 They bound the breastpiece by its rings to the rings of the ephod with a [af]blue cord, so that it would be on the woven band of the ephod, and that the breastpiece would not come loose from the ephod, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
22 (M)Then he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of [ag]blue; 23 (N)and the opening of the robe was at the top in the center, as the opening of a coat of mail, with a binding all around its opening, so that it would not be torn. 24 They made pomegranates of [ah]blue and purple and scarlet material and twisted linen on the hem of the robe. 25 They also made bells of pure gold, and put the bells between the pomegranates all around on the hem of the [ai]robe, 26 [aj]alternating a bell and a pomegranate all around on the hem of the robe for the service, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
27 (O)They made the tunics of finely woven linen for Aaron and his sons, 28 and the turban of fine linen, and the decorated [ak]caps of fine linen, and the linen breeches of fine twisted linen, 29 and the sash of fine twisted linen, and [al]blue and purple and scarlet material, the work of the [am]weaver, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
30 (P)They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and [an]inscribed it like the engravings of a signet, “Holy to the Lord.” 31 They [ao]fastened a [ap]blue cord to it, to [aq]fasten it on the turban above, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
32 Thus all the work of the [ar]tabernacle of the tent of meeting was completed; and the sons of Israel did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses; so they did. 33 They brought the tabernacle to Moses, the tent and all its [as]furnishings: its clasps, its boards, its bars, and its pillars and its [at]sockets; 34 and the covering of rams’ skins [au]dyed red, and the covering of porpoise skins, and the screening veil; 35 the ark of the testimony and its poles and the [av]mercy seat; 36 the table, all its utensils, and the bread of the [aw]Presence; 37 the pure gold lampstand, [ax]with its arrangement of lamps and all its utensils, and the oil for the light; 38 and the gold altar, and the anointing oil and the fragrant incense, and the veil for the doorway of the tent; 39 the [ay]bronze altar and its [az]bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils, the laver and its stand; 40 the hangings for the court, its pillars and its [ba]sockets, and the screen for the gate of the court, its cords and its pegs and all the [bb]equipment for the service of the tabernacle, for the tent of meeting; 41 the woven garments for ministering in the holy place and the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests. 42 So the sons of Israel did all the work according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses. 43 And Moses [bc]examined all the work and behold, they had done it; just as the Lord had commanded, this they had done. So Moses (Q)blessed them.
The Tabernacle Erected
40 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “(R)On the first day of the first month you shall set up the [bd]tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 3 (S)You shall place the ark of the testimony there, and you shall screen the ark with the veil. 4 You shall (T)bring in the table and [be](U)arrange what belongs on it; and you shall (V)bring in the lampstand and [bf]mount its lamps. 5 Moreover, you shall (W)set the gold altar of incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the veil for the doorway to the tabernacle. 6 You shall set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. 7 You shall (X)set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water [bg]in it. 8 You shall set up the court all around and [bh]hang up the veil for the gateway of the court. 9 Then you shall take the anointing oil and (Y)anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its [bi]furnishings; and it shall be holy. 10 You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and (Z)the altar shall be most holy. 11 You shall anoint the laver and its stand, and consecrate it. 12 Then you shall (AA)bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water. 13 (AB)You shall put the holy garments on Aaron and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister as a priest to Me. 14 You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them; 15 and you shall anoint them even as you have anointed their father, that they may minister as priests to Me; and their anointing will [bj]qualify them for a (AC)perpetual priesthood throughout their generations.” 16 Thus Moses did; according to all that the Lord had commanded him, so he did.
17 Now (AD)in the first month [bk]of the second year, on the first day of the month, the [bl]tabernacle was erected. 18 Moses erected the tabernacle and [bm]laid its [bn]sockets, and set up its boards, and [bo]inserted its bars and erected its pillars. 19 He spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent [bp]on top of it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 20 Then he took (AE)the testimony and put it into the ark, and [bq]attached the poles to the ark, and put the [br]mercy seat [bs]on top of the ark. 21 He brought the ark into the tabernacle, and (AF)set up a veil for the screen, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 22 Then he (AG)put the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil. 23 He set the arrangement of (AH)bread in order on it before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 24 Then he placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle. 25 He (AI)lighted the lamps before the Lord, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 26 Then he (AJ)placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the veil; 27 and he (AK)burned fragrant incense on it, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 28 Then he set up the [bt]veil for the doorway of the tabernacle. 29 He (AL)set the altar of burnt offering before the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and (AM)offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 30 He placed the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing. 31 (AN)From it Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet. 32 When they entered the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, just as the Lord had commanded Moses. 33 He (AO)erected the court all around the [bu]tabernacle and the altar, and [bv]hung up the veil for the gateway of the court. Thus Moses finished the work.
The Glory of the Lord
34 (AP)Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the (AQ)glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses (AR)was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36 Throughout all their journeys (AS)whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out; 37 but (AT)if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up. 38 For throughout all their journeys, (AU)the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.

21 These are the accounts of the Tabernacle of the Testimony, as they were recorded according to the commandment of Moses, by the service of the Levites, under the hand of Ithamar son of Aaron the kohen. 22 Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur of the tribe of Judah made all that Adonai commanded Moses. 23 Along with him was Oholiab son of Ahisamach of the tribe of Dan, a craftsman, a skillful workman, and a weaver of colors, in blue, purple, scarlet and fine linen.
24 The entirety of the gold that was used for the work of the Sanctuary, including the gold of the offering, was 29 talents[a] and 730 shekels, according to the Sanctuary shekel. 25 The silver from those numbered from the congregation was 100 talents and 1,775 shekels, according to the Sanctuary shekel— 26 that is, a beka, or half a shekel per head, according to the shekel of the Sanctuary, for everyone who was recorded, from 20 years old and upward, for 603,550 men. 27 The 100 talents of silver were for casting the bases of the Sanctuary, and the bases for the inner curtain, 100 bases for 100 talents, a talent for each base. 28 The 1,775 shekels he made into hooks for the pillars, overlaid their capitals, and made bands for them.
29 The bronze from the offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels. 30 With it he made the bases for the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, the bronze altar, the bronze grating, all the utensils for the altar, 31 along with the bases of the courtyard all around, the bases for the gate of the courtyard, as well as all the pegs of the Tabernacle and the pegs for the courtyard all around.
Holy Garments for Aaron and His Sons
39 Next they made woven garments of blue, purple and scarlet, for ministering in the holy place. They made the holy garments for Aaron, as Adonai commanded Moses.
2 He made the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet and finely twisted linen. 3 They hammered the gold into thin plates, and cut it into threads, to work it in with the blue, purple and scarlet, within the fine linen, the work of a skillful craftsman. 4 Then they made shoulder pieces for it, joined together at the two ends. 5 The artfully woven band on the ephod, with which to gird it, was of the same piece and the same kind of workmanship of gold, blue, purple, scarlet and finely twisted linen, as Adonai commanded Moses.
6 They placed the onyx stones, enclosed in settings of gold, etched with the engravings of a signet seal, according to the names of Bnei-Yisrael. 7 He put them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, to be memorial stones for Bnei-Yisrael, as Adonai commanded Moses.
8 He made the breastplate, the work of a skillful craftsman, like the work of the ephod, of gold, blue, purple, scarlet and finely twisted linen. 9 It was square and folded doubled, a span long and a span wide. 10 They mounted within it four rows of stones. A row of ruby, topaz and emerald were the first row. 11 In the second row were a turquoise, a sapphire and a diamond. 12 In the third row were a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst, 13 and in the fourth row were a beryl, an onyx and a jasper. They were enclosed in fittings of gold within their settings. 14 The stones corresponded to the names of Bnei-Yisrael, like the engravings of a signet seal, each one according to its name for the twelve tribes.
15 They attached braided chains to the breastplate, of wreathed work from pure gold. 16 They made two settings of gold, and two golden rings, and set the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate. 17 They attached the two golden chains to the two rings at the ends of the breastplate. 18 The other two ends of the chains they placed on the two settings, and fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, in the front. 19 They also made two golden rings, and set them on the two ends of the breastplate, on the edge that was toward the side of the ephod facing inward. 20 They made two more rings of gold, and put them on the two shoulder pieces of the ephod underneath, in the front, enclosed by their coupling, above the artfully woven band of the ephod. 21 Then they bound the breastplate by the rings to the rings of the ephod with a blue thread, so that it would rest on the artfully woven band and not be loosened from the ephod, as Adonai commanded Moses.
22 He also made the robe of the ephod from woven work, all of blue, 23 with a hole in the center of the robe, and a binding woven around the hole as a collar, so that it would not be torn. 24 They also made, on the hem of the robe, pomegranates of blue, purple, scarlet and twisted linen. 25 Then they made bells of pure gold and put the bells between the pomegranates on the hem of the robe all around, between the pomegranates, 26 a bell and a pomegranate, then another bell and a pomegranate, all around on the hem of the robe, to minister in, as Adonai commanded Moses.
27 Then they made the sashes of fine linen, woven work for Aaron and for his sons, 28 the turban of fine linen, the headwear, the linen undergarments of finely twisted linen, 29 along with the tunic of checkered work, in blue, purple and scarlet, the work of a color weaver, as Adonai commanded Moses.
30 Finally they made the plate of the holy coronet from pure gold, and wrote an inscription on it, like the engraving of a signet seal: HOLY TO Adonai. 31 They tied to it a blue thread, to fasten onto the turban above, as Adonai commanded Moses.
32 So all the work of the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, was finished. Bnei-Yisrael did everything according to what Adonai had commanded Moses—they did it just so. 33 Then they brought the Tabernacle to Moses, along with the tent and all of its furnishings, its clasps, its boards, its crossbars, its pillars, and its bases; 34 along with the covering of ram skins dyed red, and the covering of sealskins, the veil of the curtain; 35 as well as the Ark of the Testimony with its poles, and the atonement cover; 36 the table and all of its utensils, the showbread; 37 the pure menorah with its lamps to be set in order, along with all of its utensils, and oil for the light; 38 the golden altar, the anointing oil, the sweet incense, and the curtain for the entrance of the tent; 39 the bronze altar, its grating and its poles along with all of its utensils, and the basin and its base; 40 the hangings for the courtyard, with its pillars, its bases and the curtain for the gate of the courtyard, with its cords and its pegs, along with all the instruments for the service of the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting; 41 as well as the woven garments for ministering in the Sanctuary, the holy garments for Aaron the kohen and for his sons to serve as kohanim.
42 According to everything that Adonai had commanded Moses, Bnei-Yisrael had done all the work just so. 43 When Moses saw the entire work, and that they had done it just as Adonai had commanded, Moses blessed them.
Setting up the Tabernacle
40 Then Adonai spoke to Moses saying, 2 “On the first day of the first month, you will set up the Tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting. 3 You are to put the Ark of the Testimony there, and screen off the Ark with the curtain. 4 Then bring in the table, and set in order the bread that is on it. Bring in the menorah and light its lamps. 5 Set the golden incense altar in front of the Ark of the Testimony, and hang the curtain over the entrance of the Tabernacle.
6 “Set the altar of burnt offering before the entrance of the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting. 7 Set up the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it. 8 Set up the courtyard all around, and hang the curtain of the gate of the courtyard.
9 “Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle, and everything within it, and consecrate it, along with all of its furnishings, and it will be holy. 10 Also you are to anoint the altar of burnt offering with all of its utensils and consecrate the altar. The altar will be most holy. 11 Then you are to anoint the basin along with its base and sanctify it.
12 “Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and wash them with water. 13 Put the holy garments on Aaron, anoint him and consecrate him, so that he may minister to Me as a kohen. 14 Also bring his sons and put tunics upon them. 15 You are to anoint them, as you did their father, so that they too may minister to Me as kohanim. Their anointing will be for an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.” 16 Moses did so, just as Adonai had commanded him.
17 Now it happened during the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the Tabernacle was raised up. 18 Moses raised the Tabernacle, and laid its bases, set up the framework of boards, put in the crossbars and set up its pillars. 19 Then he spread the tent over the Tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on it, just as Adonai had commanded Moses.
20 He placed the Testimony into the Ark, set the poles on the Ark, and put the atonement cover on top of the Ark. 21 He brought the Ark into the Tabernacle, set up the curtain as a screen, and screened off the Ark of the Testimony, just as Adonai had commanded Moses.
22 Then he set up the table inside the Tent of Meeting, on the side of the Tabernacle northward, outside the curtain. 23 He set a row of bread in order upon it before Adonai, just as Adonai had commanded Moses. 24 Then he placed the menorah in the Tent of Meeting, over against the table, on the south side of the Tabernacle. 25 Then he lit the lamps before Adonai, just as Adonai had commanded Moses.
26 Next he placed the golden altar in the Tent of Meeting before the curtain, 27 and he burned sweet spices of incense there, just as Adonai had commanded Moses. 28 He hung the curtain over the entrance of the Tabernacle. 29 Then he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the Tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the grain offering, just as Adonai had commanded Moses.
30 Next he set up the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, 31 so that Moses, Aaron and his sons could wash their hands and their feet there. 32 When they went into the Tent of Meeting and when they came near to the altar, they washed, just as Adonai had commanded Moses.
33 He set up the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar and set up the screen at the gate of the courtyard. So Moses finished the work.
Glory Fills the Tabernacle
34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of Adonai filled the Tabernacle. 35 Moses was unable to enter into the Tent of Meeting, because the cloud resided there and the glory of Adonai filled the Tabernacle.
36 Now whenever the cloud was taken up from over the Tabernacle, Bnei-Yisrael went onward, throughout all their journeys. 37 But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not move out until the day that it was. 38 For the cloud of Adonai was on the Tabernacle by day and a fire was there by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

25 The silver obtained from those of the community who were counted in the census(G) was 100 talents[b] and 1,775 shekels,[c] according to the sanctuary shekel— 26 one beka per person,(H) that is, half a shekel,[d] according to the sanctuary shekel,(I) from everyone who had crossed over to those counted, twenty years old or more,(J) a total of 603,550 men.(K) 27 The 100 talents of silver were used to cast the bases(L) for the sanctuary and for the curtain—100 bases from the 100 talents, one talent for each base. 28 They used the 1,775 shekels to make the hooks for the posts, to overlay the tops of the posts, and to make their bands.
29 The bronze from the wave offering was 70 talents and 2,400 shekels.[e] 30 They used it to make the bases for the entrance to the tent of meeting, the bronze altar with its bronze grating and all its utensils, 31 the bases for the surrounding courtyard and those for its entrance and all the tent pegs for the tabernacle and those for the surrounding courtyard.
The Priestly Garments
39 From the blue, purple and scarlet yarn(M) they made woven garments for ministering in the sanctuary.(N) They also made sacred garments(O) for Aaron, as the Lord commanded Moses.
The Ephod(P)
2 They[f] made the ephod of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 3 They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut strands to be worked into the blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen—the work of skilled hands. 4 They made shoulder pieces for the ephod, which were attached to two of its corners, so it could be fastened. 5 Its skillfully woven waistband was like it—of one piece with the ephod and made with gold, and with blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and with finely twisted linen, as the Lord commanded Moses.
6 They mounted the onyx stones in gold filigree settings and engraved them like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel. 7 Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial(Q) stones for the sons of Israel, as the Lord commanded Moses.
The Breastpiece(R)
8 They fashioned the breastpiece(S)—the work of a skilled craftsman. They made it like the ephod: of gold, and of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and of finely twisted linen. 9 It was square—a span[g] long and a span wide—and folded double. 10 Then they mounted four rows of precious stones on it. The first row was carnelian, chrysolite and beryl; 11 the second row was turquoise, lapis lazuli and emerald; 12 the third row was jacinth, agate and amethyst; 13 the fourth row was topaz, onyx and jasper.[h] They were mounted in gold filigree settings. 14 There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.(T)
15 For the breastpiece they made braided chains of pure gold, like a rope. 16 They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and fastened the rings to two of the corners of the breastpiece. 17 They fastened the two gold chains to the rings at the corners of the breastpiece, 18 and the other ends of the chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. 19 They made two gold rings and attached them to the other two corners of the breastpiece on the inside edge next to the ephod. 20 Then they made two more gold rings and attached them to the bottom of the shoulder pieces on the front of the ephod, close to the seam just above the waistband of the ephod. 21 They tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod with blue cord, connecting it to the waistband so that the breastpiece would not swing out from the ephod—as the Lord commanded Moses.
Other Priestly Garments(U)
22 They made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue cloth—the work of a weaver— 23 with an opening in the center of the robe like the opening of a collar,[i] and a band around this opening, so that it would not tear. 24 They made pomegranates of blue, purple and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen around the hem of the robe. 25 And they made bells of pure gold and attached them around the hem between the pomegranates. 26 The bells and pomegranates alternated around the hem of the robe to be worn for ministering, as the Lord commanded Moses.
27 For Aaron and his sons, they made tunics of fine linen(V)—the work of a weaver— 28 and the turban(W) of fine linen, the linen caps and the undergarments of finely twisted linen. 29 The sash was made of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn—the work of an embroiderer—as the Lord commanded Moses.
30 They made the plate, the sacred emblem, out of pure gold and engraved on it, like an inscription on a seal: holy to the Lord.(X) 31 Then they fastened a blue cord to it to attach it to the turban,(Y) as the Lord commanded Moses.
Moses Inspects the Tabernacle(Z)
32 So all the work on the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was completed. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.(AA) 33 Then they brought the tabernacle(AB) to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, crossbars, posts and bases; 34 the covering of ram skins dyed red and the covering of another durable leather[j] and the shielding curtain; 35 the ark of the covenant law(AC) with its poles and the atonement cover; 36 the table(AD) with all its articles and the bread of the Presence;(AE) 37 the pure gold lampstand(AF) with its row of lamps and all its accessories,(AG) and the olive oil(AH) for the light; 38 the gold altar,(AI) the anointing oil,(AJ) the fragrant incense,(AK) and the curtain(AL) for the entrance to the tent; 39 the bronze altar(AM) with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils; the basin(AN) with its stand; 40 the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, and the curtain for the entrance to the courtyard;(AO) the ropes and tent pegs for the courtyard; all the furnishings for the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; 41 and the woven garments(AP) worn for ministering in the sanctuary, both the sacred garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons when serving as priests.
42 The Israelites had done all the work just as the Lord had commanded Moses.(AQ) 43 Moses inspected the work and saw that they had done it just as the Lord had commanded.(AR) So Moses blessed(AS) them.
Setting Up the Tabernacle
40 Then the Lord said to Moses: 2 “Set up(AT) the tabernacle, the tent of meeting,(AU) on the first day of the first month.(AV) 3 Place the ark(AW) of the covenant law in it and shield the ark with the curtain. 4 Bring in the table(AX) and set out what belongs on it.(AY) Then bring in the lampstand(AZ) and set up its lamps. 5 Place the gold altar(BA) of incense in front of the ark of the covenant law and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle.
6 “Place the altar(BB) of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; 7 place the basin(BC) between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it. 8 Set up the courtyard(BD) around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard.
9 “Take the anointing oil and anoint(BE) the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings,(BF) and it will be holy. 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate(BG) the altar, and it will be most holy. 11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them.
12 “Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the tent of meeting(BH) and wash them with water.(BI) 13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments,(BJ) anoint him and consecrate(BK) him so he may serve me as priest. 14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics.(BL) 15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue throughout their generations.(BM)” 16 Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded(BN) him.
17 So the tabernacle(BO) was set up on the first day of the first month(BP) in the second year. 18 When Moses(BQ) set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames,(BR) inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. 19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering(BS) over the tent, as the Lord commanded(BT) him.
20 He took the tablets of the covenant law(BU) and placed them in the ark,(BV) attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover(BW) over it. 21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain(BX) and shielded the ark of the covenant law, as the Lord commanded(BY) him.
22 Moses placed the table(BZ) in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain 23 and set out the bread(CA) on it before the Lord, as the Lord commanded(CB) him.
24 He placed the lampstand(CC) in the tent of meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle 25 and set up the lamps(CD) before the Lord, as the Lord commanded(CE) him.
26 Moses placed the gold altar(CF) in the tent of meeting in front of the curtain 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the Lord commanded(CG) him.
28 Then he put up the curtain(CH) at the entrance to the tabernacle. 29 He set the altar(CI) of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings,(CJ) as the Lord commanded(CK) him.
30 He placed the basin(CL) between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, 31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash(CM) their hands and feet. 32 They washed whenever they entered the tent of meeting or approached the altar,(CN) as the Lord commanded(CO) Moses.
33 Then Moses set up the courtyard(CP) around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain(CQ) at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work.
The Glory of the Lord
34 Then the cloud(CR) covered the tent of meeting, and the glory(CS) of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory(CT) of the Lord filled the tabernacle.(CU)
36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out;(CV) 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. 38 So the cloud(CW) of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the Israelites during all their travels.

The Ark Brought into the Temple

Dedicating the Temple

14 Then the king turned his face about and blessed the whole congregation of Israel while the whole congregation of Israel was standing. 15 He said: “Blessed be Adonai, the God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and has fulfilled it by His hand, saying: 16 ‘Since the day I brought My people Israel out from Egypt, I have not chosen a city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a House where My Name would be there. But I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
17 “Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a House for the Name of Adonai, the God of Israel. 18 But Adonai said to my father David: ‘Because it was in your heart to build a House for My Name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 Nevertheless you will not build the House, but your son who will come out of your loins, he shall build the House for My Name.’ 20 Now Adonai has fulfilled His word that He spoke, for I have risen in the place of my father David and sit on the throne of Israel, as Adonai promised. 14 While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed(X) them. 15 Then he said:
“Praise be to the Lord,(Y) the God of Israel, who with his own hand has fulfilled what he promised with his own mouth to my father David. For he said, 16 ‘Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt,(Z) I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built so that my Name(AA) might be there, but I have chosen(AB) David(AC) to rule my people Israel.’

A Better Ministry

The High Priest of a New Covenant

3 Every high priest(D) is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices,(E) and so it was necessary for this one also to have something to offer.(F) 4 If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are already priests who offer the gifts prescribed by the law.(G) 5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy(H) and shadow(I) of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned(J) when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”[a](K) 6 But in fact the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant(L) of which he is mediator(M) is superior to the old one, since the new covenant is established on better promises.
7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.(N) 8 But God found fault with the people and said[b]:
“The days are coming, declares the Lord,
when I will make a new covenant(O)
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
9 It will not be like the covenant
I made with their ancestors(P)
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they did not remain faithful to my covenant,
and I turned away from them,
declares the Lord.
10 This is the covenant(Q) I will establish with the people of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.(R)
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.(S)
11 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,(T)
from the least of them to the greatest.
12 For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.(U)”[c](V)
