The Altar of Burnt Offering

27 ‘You(A) are to construct the altar of acacia wood. The altar must be square, 2.25 metres long, and 2.25 metres wide;[a] it must be 1.35 metres high.[b] Make horns for it on its four corners; the horns are to be of one piece.[c] Overlay it with bronze.(B) Make its pots for removing ashes, and its shovels, basins, meat forks, and firepans; make all its utensils of bronze. Construct a grate for it of bronze mesh, and make four bronze rings on the mesh at its four corners. Set it below, under the altar’s ledge,[d] so that the mesh comes halfway up[e] the altar. Then make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with bronze. The poles are to be inserted into the rings so that the poles are on two sides of the altar when it is carried. Construct the altar with boards so that it is hollow. They are to make it just as it was shown to you on the mountain.(C)

The Courtyard

‘You(D) are to make the courtyard for the tabernacle. Make hangings for the south side of the courtyard out of finely spun linen, 45 metres[f] long on that side 10 including twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, with silver hooks and silver bands[g] for the posts. 11 And so make hangings 45 metres long for the north side, including twenty posts and their twenty bronze bases, with silver hooks and silver bands for the posts. 12 For the width of the courtyard, make hangings 23 metres[h] long for the west side, including their ten posts and their ten bases. 13 And for the width of the courtyard on the east side towards the sunrise, 23 metres, 14 make hangings 6.75 metres[i] long for one side of the gate, including their three posts and their three bases. 15 And make hangings 6.75 metres long for the other side, including their three posts and their three bases. 16 The gate of the courtyard is to have a 9-metre[j] screen(E) embroidered[k] with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. It is to have four posts and their four bases.

17 ‘All the posts around the courtyard are to be banded with silver and have silver hooks and bronze bases. 18 The courtyard is to be 45 metres long, 23 metres wide at each end, and 2.25 metres high,[l] all of it made of finely spun linen. The bases of the posts are to be bronze. 19 All the utensils of the tabernacle for every use and all its tent pegs as well as all the tent pegs of the courtyard are to be made of bronze.

The Lampstand Oil

20 ‘You are to command the Israelites to bring you pure oil from crushed olives for the light, in order to keep the lamp burning regularly. 21 In the tent of meeting outside the curtain that is in front of the testimony,(F) Aaron and his sons are to tend the lamp(G) from evening until morning before the Lord. This is to be a permanent statute(H) for the Israelites throughout their generations.

27 And make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits square and three cubits high [within reach of all].

Make horns for it on its four corners; they shall be of one piece with it, and you shall overlay it with bronze.

You shall make pots to take away its ashes, and shovels, basins, forks, and firepans; make all its utensils of bronze.

Also make for it a grate, a network of bronze; and on the net you shall make four bronze rings at its four corners.

And you shall put it under the ledge of the altar, so that the net will extend halfway down the altar.

And make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood overlaid with bronze.

The poles shall be put through the rings on the two sides of the altar, with which to carry it.(A)

You shall make [the altar] hollow with slabs or planks; as shown you on the mountain, so shall it be made.

And you shall make the court of the tabernacle. On the south side the court shall have hangings of fine twined linen, a hundred cubits long for one side;

10 Their pillars shall be twenty and their sockets twenty, of bronze, but the hooks of the pillars and their joinings shall be of silver;

11 Likewise for the north side hangings, a hundred cubits long, and their twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of bronze, but the hooks of the pillars and their joinings shall be of silver.

12 And for the breadth of the court on the west side there shall be hangings of fifty cubits, with ten pillars and ten sockets.

13 The breadth of the court to the front, the east side, shall be fifty cubits.

14 The hangings for one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits, with three pillars and three sockets.

15 On the other side the hangings shall be fifteen cubits, with three pillars and three sockets.

16 And for the gate of the court there shall be a hanging [for a screen] twenty cubits long, of blue, purple, and scarlet [stuff] and fine twined linen, embroidered. It shall have four pillars and four sockets for them.

17 All the pillars round about the court shall be joined together with silver rods; their hooks shall be of silver and their sockets of bronze.

18 The length of the court shall be a hundred cubits and the breadth fifty and the height five cubits, [with hangings of] fine twined linen and sockets of bronze.

19 All the tabernacle’s utensils and instruments used in all its service, and all its pegs and all the pegs for the court, shall be of bronze.

20 You shall command the Israelites to provide you with pure oil of crushed olives for the light, to cause it to burn continually [every night].

21 In the Tent of Meeting [of God with His people], outside the veil which sets apart the Testimony, Aaron and his sons shall keep it burning from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute to be observed on behalf of the Israelites throughout their generations.
