¹⁴ The Lord then said to Moses, ‘Write this down on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua: I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek under heaven.’^(A)

¹⁵ And Moses built an altar^(B) and named it, ‘The Lord Is My Banner.’^{[a] 16} He said, ‘Indeed, my hand is lifted up towards^[b] the Lord’s throne. The Lord will be at war with Amalek from generation to generation.’

War with Midian

31 The Lord spoke to Moses,

² ‘Execute vengeance for the Israelites against the Midianites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.’^(A)

² The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you.^(A)

³ March round the city with all the men of war, circling the city once. Do this for six days.

Conquest of Ai

8 The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged.^(A) Take all the troops with you and go and attack Ai. Look, I have handed over to you the king of Ai, his people, city, and land.^(B)
