13 Domnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis: 2 „Pune-Mi deoparte ca sfânt(A) pe orice întâi născut, pe orice întâi născut dintre copiii lui Israel, atât dintre oameni, cât şi dintre dobitoace: este al Meu.” 3 Moise a zis poporului: „Aduceţi-vă(B) aminte de ziua aceasta, când aţi ieşit din Egipt, din casa robiei, căci cu mână(C) puternică v-a scos Domnul de acolo. Să nu mâncaţi(D) pâine dospită. 4 Astăzi(E) ieşiţi, în luna spicelor[a]. 5 Când te va duce(F) Domnul în ţara canaaniţilor, hetiţilor, amoriţilor, heviţilor şi iebusiţilor, pe care a(G) jurat părinţilor tăi că ţi-o va da, ţară unde curge lapte şi miere, să ţii(H) următoarea slujbă în luna aceasta. 6 Timp de şapte zile(I), să mănânci azimi, şi în ziua a şaptea, să fie o sărbătoare în cinstea Domnului. 7 În timpul celor şapte zile, să mâncaţi azimi; să nu se(J) vadă la tine nimic dospit, nici aluat, pe toată întinderea ţării tale. 8 Să spui(K) atunci fiului tău: ‘Aceasta este spre pomenirea celor ce a făcut Domnul pentru mine, când am ieşit din Egipt.’ 9 Să-ţi fie ca un(L) semn pe mână şi ca un semn de aducere-aminte pe frunte, între ochii tăi, pentru ca Legea Domnului să fie totdeauna în gura ta; căci cu mână puternică te-a scos Domnul din Egipt. 10 Să ţii(M) porunca aceasta la vremea hotărâtă, din an în an. 11 Când te va aduce Domnul în ţara canaaniţilor, cum a jurat ţie şi părinţilor tăi, şi când ţi-o va da, 12 să(N) închini Domnului pe orice întâi născut, chiar pe orice întâi născut din vitele pe care le vei avea: orice parte bărbătească este a Domnului. 13 Să răscumperi(O) cu un miel pe orice întâi născut(P) al măgăriţei, iar dacă nu-l vei răscumpăra, să-i frângi gâtul. Să răscumperi, de asemenea, pe orice întâi născut de parte bărbătească dintre fiii tăi. 14 Şi când te va(Q) întreba fiul tău într-o zi: ‘Ce înseamnă lucrul acesta?’ să-i răspunzi: ‘Prin mâna Lui cea atotputernică, Domnul ne-a scos din Egipt, din casa robiei; 15 şi, fiindcă Faraon se încăpăţâna şi nu voia să ne lase să plecăm, Domnul(R) a omorât pe toţi întâii născuţi din ţara Egiptului, de la întâii născuţi ai oamenilor până la întâii născuţi ai dobitoacelor. Iată de ce aduc jertfă Domnului pe orice întâi născut de parte bărbătească, şi răscumpăr pe orice întâi născut dintre fiii mei. 16 Să-ţi fie ca un semn(S) pe mână şi ca un semn de aducere-aminte pe frunte, între ochi, căci prin mâna Lui atotputernică ne-a scos Domnul din Egipt’.”
Călătoria spre pustie
17 După ce Faraon a lăsat pe popor să plece, Dumnezeu nu l-a dus pe drumul care dă în ţara filistenilor, măcar că era mai aproape, căci a zis Dumnezeu: „S-ar putea să-i pară(T) rău poporului văzând războiul şi să se întoarcă(U) în Egipt.” 18 Ci Dumnezeu a pus(V) pe popor să facă un ocol pe drumul care duce spre pustie, spre Marea Roşie. Copiii lui Israel au ieşit înarmaţi din ţara Egiptului. 19 Moise a luat cu el oasele lui Iosif; căci Iosif pusese pe fiii lui Israel să jure, zicând: „Când vă va cerceta Dumnezeu(W), să luaţi cu voi oasele mele de aici.” 20 Au plecat(X) din Sucot şi au tăbărât la Etam, la marginea pustiei. 21 Domnul(Y) mergea înaintea lor: ziua într-un stâlp de nor, ca să-i călăuzească pe drum, iar noaptea într-un stâlp de foc, ca să-i lumineze, pentru ca să meargă şi ziua, şi noaptea. 22 Stâlpul de nor nu se depărta dinaintea poporului în timpul zilei, nici stâlpul de foc în timpul nopţii.

Unleavened Bread and Dedication of Firstborn to Commemorate the Rescue from Egypt
13 And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Consecrate to me every firstborn, the first offspring of every womb among the Israelites,[a] among humans[b] and among domestic animals;[c] it belongs to me.”[d] 3 And Moses said to the people, “Remember this day when you went out from Egypt, from a house of slaves, because with strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from here, and food with yeast will not be eaten. 4 Today you are going out in the month of Abib. 5 And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites[e] and the Hittites[f] and the Amorites[g] and the Hivites[h] and the Jebusites[i]—which he swore to your ancestors[j] to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month. 6 Seven days you will eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day will be a feast for Yahweh. 7 Unleavened bread will be eaten the seven days; food with yeast will not be seen for you; and yeast will not be seen for you in all your territory. 8 And you shall tell your son on that day, saying, ‘This is because of what Yahweh did for me when I came out from Egypt.’ 9 And it will be as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes so that the law of Yahweh will be in your mouth, that with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from Egypt. 10 And you will keep this statute at its appointed time from year to year.[k]
11 “And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your ancestors,[l] and he gives it to you, 12 you will hand over every first offspring of a womb to Yahweh, and every first offspring dropped by a domestic animal that will belong to you, the males will be for Yahweh. 13 And every first offspring of a donkey you will redeem with small livestock, and if you will not redeem it, then you will break its neck, and every firstborn human among your sons you will redeem. 14 And when your son asks you in the future,[m] saying, ‘What is this?’ you will say to him, ‘With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves. 15 And when Pharaoh was stubborn to release us, Yahweh killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from firstborn human to firstborn domestic animal. Therefore I am sacrificing to Yahweh every first offspring of a womb, the males, and every firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 And it will be as a sign on your hand and as symbolic ornaments between your eyes that with strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt.”
Summary of Travel
17 And when Pharaoh released the people, God did not lead them the way of the land of the Philistines, though it was nearer, because God said, “Lest the people change their mind when they see war and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by the way of the desert to the Red Sea,[n] and the Israelites[o] went up in battle array from the land of Egypt. 19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph[p] had made the Israelites[q] solemnly swear an oath, saying, “God will surely attend to you, and you will take up my bones from here with you.” 20 And they set out from Succoth, and they encamped at Etham on the edge of the desert. 21 And Yahweh was going before them by day in a column of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a column of fire to give light to them to go by day and night. 22 The column of cloud by day and the column of fire by night did not depart from before the people.

The Firstborn Consecrated
13 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 (A)“Consecrate[a] to Me all the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and beast; it is Mine.”
The Feast of Unleavened Bread(B)
3 And Moses said to the people: (C)“Remember this day in which you went out of Egypt, out of the house of [b]bondage; for (D)by strength of hand the Lord brought you out of this place. (E)No leavened bread shall be eaten. 4 (F)On this day you are going out, in the month Abib. 5 And it shall be, when the Lord (G)brings you into the (H)land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He (I)swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, (J)that you shall keep this service in this month. 6 (K)Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the Lord. 7 Unleavened bread shall be eaten seven days. And (L)no leavened bread shall be seen among you, nor shall leaven be seen among you in all your quarters. 8 And you shall (M)tell your son in that day, saying, ‘This is done because of what the Lord did for me when I came up from Egypt.’ 9 It shall be as (N)a sign to you on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the Lord’s law may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand the Lord has brought you out of Egypt. 10 (O)You shall therefore keep this [c]ordinance in its season from year to year.
The Law of the Firstborn
11 “And it shall be, when the Lord (P)brings you into the land of the (Q)Canaanites, as He swore to you and your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 (R)that you shall [d]set apart to the Lord all that open the womb, that is, every firstborn that comes from an animal which you have; the males shall be the Lord’s. 13 But (S)every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck. And all the firstborn of man among your sons (T)you shall redeem. 14 (U)So it shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall say to him, (V)‘By strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that (W)the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all males that open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ 16 It shall be as (X)a sign on your hand and as frontlets between your eyes, for by strength of hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt.”
The Wilderness Way(Y)
17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people (Z)change their minds when they see war, and (AA)return to Egypt.” 18 So God (AB)led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.
19 And Moses took the (AC)bones of (AD)Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, (AE)“God will surely [e]visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.”
20 So (AF)they took their journey from (AG)Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 And (AH)the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
