Israel Defeats Amalek

^8 (A)Then Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim.

² Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel ^(A)in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt.

^17 (A)“Remember what Amalek did to you ^(B)on the way as you came out of Egypt, ¹⁸ how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and ^(C)cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. ¹⁹ Therefore ^(D)when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall ^(E)blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget.

¹² (Timna was a concubine of Eliphaz, Esau's son; she bore ^(A)Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the sons of Adah, Esau's wife.

David's Wives Are Captured

30 Now when David and his men came to ^(A)Ziklag on the third day, ^(B)the Amalekites had ^(C)made a raid against the Negeb and against Ziklag. They had overcome Ziklag and burned it with fire

²⁰ Then he looked on Amalek and ^(A)took up his discourse and said,

¹⁶ Korah, Gatam, and Amalek; these are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah.
