O Decreto de Dario
6 O rei Dario mandou então fazer uma pesquisa nos arquivos da Babilônia, que estavam nos locais em que se guardavam os tesouros. 2 Encontrou-se um rolo na cidadela de Ecbatana, na província da Média, e nele estava escrito o seguinte, que Dario comunicou:
3 “No primeiro ano do seu reinado, o rei Ciro promulgou um decreto acerca do templo de Deus em Jerusalém, nestes termos:
“‘Que o templo seja reconstruído como local destinado à apresentação de sacrifícios, e que se lancem os seus alicerces. Ele terá vinte e sete metros[a] de altura e vinte e sete metros de largura, 4 com três carreiras de pedras grandes e uma carreira de madeira. O custo será pago pela tesouraria do rei. 5 E os utensílios de ouro e de prata da casa de Deus, que Nabucodonosor tirou do templo de Jerusalém e trouxe para a Babilônia, serão devolvidos aos seus lugares no templo de Jerusalém; devem ser colocados na casa de Deus’.
6 “Agora, então, Tatenai, governador do território situado a oeste do Eufrates, e Setar-Bozenai, e vocês, oficiais dessa província e amigos deles, mantenham-se afastados de lá. 7 Não interfiram na obra que se faz nesse templo de Deus. Deixem o governador e os líderes dos judeus reconstruírem esse templo de Deus em seu antigo local.
8 “Além disso, promulgo o seguinte decreto a respeito do que vocês farão por esses líderes dos judeus na construção desse templo de Deus:
“As despesas desses homens serão integralmente pagas pela tesouraria do rei, do tributo recebido do território a oeste do Eufrates, para que a obra não pare. 9 E o que for necessário: novilhos, carneiros, cordeiros para os holocaustos[b] oferecidos ao Deus dos céus, e trigo, sal, vinho e azeite, conforme for solicitado pelos sacerdotes em Jerusalém, tudo deverá ser entregue diariamente a eles, sem falta, 10 para que ofereçam sacrifícios agradáveis ao Deus dos céus e orem pelo bem-estar do rei e dos seus filhos.
11 “Além disso, determino que, se alguém alterar este decreto, atravessem-lhe o corpo com uma viga tirada de sua casa e deixem-no empalado. E seja a sua casa transformada num monte de entulho. 12 E que Deus, que fez o seu nome ali habitar, derrube qualquer rei ou povo que estender a mão para mudar este decreto ou para destruir esse templo de Jerusalém.
“Eu, Dario, o decretei. Que seja plenamente executado”.
A Dedicação do Templo
13 Tendo recebido o decreto do rei Dario, Tatenai, governador do território situado a oeste do Eufrates, Setar-Bozenai e os companheiros deles o cumpriram plenamente. 14 Dessa maneira, os líderes dos judeus continuaram a construir e a prosperar, encorajados pela pregação dos profetas Ageu e Zacarias, descendente de Ido. Eles terminaram a reconstrução do templo conforme a ordem do Deus de Israel e os decretos de Ciro, de Dario e de Artaxerxes, reis da Pérsia. 15 O templo foi concluído no terceiro dia do mês de adar[c], no sexto ano do reinado do rei Dario.
16 Então o povo de Israel, os sacerdotes, os levitas e o restante dos exilados, celebraram com alegria a dedicação do templo de Deus. 17 Para a dedicação do templo de Deus ofereceram cem touros, duzentos carneiros, quatrocentos cordeiros e, como oferta pelo pecado de todo o Israel, doze bodes, de acordo com o número das tribos de Israel. 18 E organizaram os sacerdotes em suas divisões e os levitas em seus grupos para o serviço de Deus em Jerusalém, conforme o que está escrito no Livro de Moisés.
A Celebração da Páscoa
19 No décimo quarto dia do primeiro mês, os exilados celebraram a Páscoa. 20 Os sacerdotes e os levitas tinham se purificado; estavam todos cerimonialmente puros. Os levitas sacrificaram o cordeiro da Páscoa por todos os exilados, por seus colegas sacerdotes e por eles mesmos. 21 Assim, os israelitas que tinham voltado do exílio comeram do cordeiro, participando com eles todos os que se haviam separado das práticas impuras dos seus vizinhos gentios para buscarem o Senhor, o Deus de Israel. 22 Durante sete dias eles celebraram com alegria a festa dos pães sem fermento, pois o Senhor os enchera de alegria ao mudar o coração do rei da Assíria, levando-o a dar-lhes força para realizarem a obra de reconstrução do templo de Deus, o Deus de Israel.

The Decree of Darius
6 King Darius then issued an order, and they searched in the archives(A) stored in the treasury at Babylon. 2 A scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media, and this was written on it:
Memorandum:
3 In the first year of King Cyrus, the king issued a decree concerning the temple of God in Jerusalem:
Let the temple be rebuilt as a place to present sacrifices, and let its foundations be laid.(B) It is to be sixty cubits[a] high and sixty cubits wide, 4 with three courses(C) of large stones and one of timbers. The costs are to be paid by the royal treasury.(D) 5 Also, the gold(E) and silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, are to be returned to their places in the temple in Jerusalem; they are to be deposited in the house of God.(F)
6 Now then, Tattenai,(G) governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai(H) and you other officials of that province, stay away from there. 7 Do not interfere with the work on this temple of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the Jewish elders rebuild this house of God on its site.
8 Moreover, I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God:
Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury,(I) from the revenues(J) of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop. 9 Whatever is needed—young bulls, rams, male lambs for burnt offerings(K) to the God of heaven, and wheat, salt, wine and olive oil, as requested by the priests in Jerusalem—must be given them daily without fail, 10 so that they may offer sacrifices pleasing to the God of heaven and pray for the well-being of the king and his sons.(L)
11 Furthermore, I decree that if anyone defies this edict, a beam is to be pulled from their house and they are to be impaled(M) on it. And for this crime their house is to be made a pile of rubble.(N) 12 May God, who has caused his Name to dwell there,(O) overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to change this decree or to destroy this temple in Jerusalem.
I Darius(P) have decreed it. Let it be carried out with diligence.
Completion and Dedication of the Temple
13 Then, because of the decree King Darius had sent, Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates(Q) carried it out with diligence. 14 So the elders of the Jews continued to build and prosper under the preaching(R) of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah, a descendant of Iddo. They finished building the temple according to the command of the God of Israel and the decrees of Cyrus,(S) Darius(T) and Artaxerxes,(U) kings of Persia. 15 The temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.(V)
16 Then the people of Israel—the priests, the Levites and the rest of the exiles—celebrated the dedication(W) of the house of God with joy. 17 For the dedication of this house of God they offered(X) a hundred bulls, two hundred rams, four hundred male lambs and, as a sin offering[b] for all Israel, twelve male goats, one for each of the tribes of Israel. 18 And they installed the priests in their divisions(Y) and the Levites in their groups(Z) for the service of God at Jerusalem, according to what is written in the Book of Moses.(AA)
The Passover
19 On the fourteenth day of the first month, the exiles celebrated the Passover.(AB) 20 The priests and Levites had purified themselves and were all ceremonially clean. The Levites slaughtered(AC) the Passover lamb for all the exiles, for their relatives the priests and for themselves. 21 So the Israelites who had returned from the exile ate it, together with all who had separated themselves(AD) from the unclean practices(AE) of their Gentile neighbors in order to seek the Lord,(AF) the God of Israel. 22 For seven days they celebrated with joy the Festival of Unleavened Bread,(AG) because the Lord had filled them with joy by changing the attitude(AH) of the king of Assyria so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel.
