Born Again to a Living Hope
3 (A)Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! (B)According to his great mercy, (C)he has caused us to be born again to a living hope (D)through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to (E)an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and (F)unfading, (G)kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God's power are being guarded (H)through faith for a salvation (I)ready to be revealed in the last time.

David's Lament for Saul and Jonathan
17 And David (A)lamented with this lamentation over Saul and Jonathan his son, 18 and he said it[a] should be taught to the people of Judah; behold, it is written in (B)the Book of Jashar.[b] He said:
19 “Your glory, O Israel, is slain on your high places!
(C)How the mighty have fallen!
20 (D)Tell it not in Gath,
(E)publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon,
(F)lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,
lest the daughters of (G)the uncircumcised exult.
21 (H)“You mountains of Gilboa,
let there be no dew or rain upon you,
nor fields of offerings![c]
For there the shield of the mighty was defiled,
the shield of Saul, not (I)anointed with oil.
22 “From the blood of the slain,
from the fat of the mighty,
(J)the bow of Jonathan turned not back,
and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
23 “Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely!
In life and in death they were not divided;
they were (K)swifter than eagles;
they were (L)stronger than lions.
24 “You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet,
(M)who put ornaments of gold on your apparel.
25 (N)“How the mighty have fallen
in the midst of the battle!
“Jonathan lies slain on your high places.
26 I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
very pleasant have you been to me;
(O)your love to me was extraordinary,
surpassing the love of women.
27 (P)“How the mighty have fallen,
and the weapons of war perished!”

2 Corinthians 8:7-15
English Standard Version
7 But as (A)you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you[a]—(B)see that you excel in this act of grace also.
8 (C)I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine. 9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that (D)though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich. 10 And in this matter (E)I give my judgment: (F)this benefits you, who (G)a year ago started not only to do this work but also to desire to do it. 11 So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have. 12 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable (H)according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply (I)their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 15 As it is written, (J)“Whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.”

My Soul Waits for the Lord
A Song of (A)Ascents.
130 Out of (B)the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2 O Lord, hear my voice!
(C)Let your ears be attentive
to (D)the voice of my pleas for mercy!
3 If you, O Lord, should (E)mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could (F)stand?
4 But with you there is (G)forgiveness,
(H)that you may be feared.

A Tree and Its Fruit
43 “For (A)no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44 for (B)each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 (C)The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces (D)evil, (E)for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
