A Time for Everything
3 There is a time(A) for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,(B)
3 a time to kill(C) and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent(D) and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
9 What do workers gain from their toil?(E) 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.(F) 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.(G) He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom(H) what God has done from beginning to end.(I) 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink,(J) and find satisfaction(K) in all their toil—this is the gift of God.(L) 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.(M)
15 Whatever is has already been,(N)
and what will be has been before;(O)
and God will call the past to account.[b]
16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
17 I said to myself,
“God will bring into judgment(P)
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”(Q)
18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals.(R) 19 Surely the fate of human beings(S) is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.(T) 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward(U) and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work,(V) because that is their lot.(W) For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

3 Todo tiene su momento; todo lo que sucede bajo el cielo ocurre de acuerdo a un plan.
2 Hay un tiempo para nacer
y otro para morir;
un tiempo para plantar
y otro para arrancar las plantas.
3 Hay un tiempo para matar
y otro para sanar;
un tiempo para destruir
y otro para construir.
4 Hay un tiempo para llorar
y otro para reír;
un tiempo para estar triste
y otro para bailar de alegría.
5 Hay un tiempo para esparcir piedras
y otro para recogerlas;
un tiempo para abrazarse
y otro para dejar de abrazarse.
6 Hay un tiempo para buscar
y otro para detener la búsqueda.
Hay un tiempo para guardar
y otro para desechar.
7 Hay un tiempo para rasgar
y otro para coser;
un tiempo para guardar silencio
y otro para hablar.
8 Hay un tiempo para amar
y otro para odiar;
un tiempo para la guerra
y otro para la paz.
Dios controla el mundo
9 ¿Qué provecho saca el trabajador de tanto trabajar? 10 He visto todo el duro trabajo que Dios dio a los seres humanos para mantenerlos ocupados. 11 Todo sucede a su debido tiempo. Sin embargo, Dios puso en la mente humana la habilidad de entender el paso del tiempo, aunque nadie alcanza a comprender la obra de Dios desde el principio hasta el fin.
12 Aprendí que lo mejor que puede hacer la gente es ser feliz y disfrutar mientras viva, 13 pues Dios quiere que todos coman, beban y disfruten de su trabajo. La vida es un don de Dios.
14 Aprendí que todo lo que Dios hace dura para siempre. Los seres humanos no le pueden agregar ni quitar nada al trabajo de Dios, pues lo hizo así para que la gente lo respete. 15 Lo que sucede ahora, ya había sucedido y lo que va a suceder, ya sucedió. Dios se encargará de lo que está más allá de la comprensión de los seres humanos.[a]
Injusticias de esta vida
16 También me di cuenta de algo más que sucede bajo el sol: en los tribunales reina la maldad y la injusticia, siendo que allí debiera reinar la honestidad y la justicia. 17 Así que pensé: «Dios ha planeado un momento para juzgar todo lo que hace la gente. Él juzgará a buenos y malos».
18 Pensé también en lo que la gente hace, y me dije: «Dios está poniendo a prueba a la gente para que ellos mismos comprueben que son como animales». 19 El ser humano no es mejor que el animal porque ambos terminan en lo mismo, mueren por igual y respiran el mismo aire. Todo eso no tiene sentido. 20 Todos van a un mismo lugar, vienen del polvo y al polvo volverán. 21 ¿Quién sabe lo que pasa con el espíritu de un animal? ¿Quién sabe si el espíritu de un hombre sube a las alturas y el de un animal baja a la tierra?
22 Así que me di cuenta de que lo mejor que uno puede hacer es disfrutar de su trabajo. Eso es todo lo que tiene. La gente no debiera preocuparse del futuro porque nadie puede decirle a uno lo que va a suceder.
