Ang Ikalawang Panaginip ni Haring Nebucadnezar
4 Gumawa si Haring Nebucadnezar ng isang pahayag para sa lahat ng lahi, bansa at wika sa buong daigdig. Ganito ang isinasaad:
“Kapayapaan nawa ang sumainyo. 2 Buong kagalakang ipinapahayag ko sa inyo ang mga kababalaghan at himala na ipinakita sa akin ng Kataas-taasang Diyos.
3 “Ang kanyang kababalaghan ay kamangha-mangha
at kagila-gilalas ang mga himala!
Walang hanggan ang kanyang kaharian;
kapangyarihan niya'y magpakailanman.
4 “Akong si Nebucadnezar ay panatag at masaganang namumuhay sa aking palasyo. 5 Minsan, nagkaroon ako ng isang nakakatakot na panaginip at mga nakakasindak na pangitain habang natutulog. 6 Kaya, ipinatawag ko ang mga tagapayo ng Babilonia upang ipaliwanag sa akin ang panaginip na iyon. 7 Dumating naman ang mga salamangkero, mga enkantador, mga astrologo at mga manghuhula. Sinabi ko sa kanila ang aking panaginip ngunit hindi nila ito maipaliwanag. 8 Ang kahuli-hulihang nagpunta sa akin ay si Daniel na pinangalanan kong Beltesazar, ayon sa pangalan ng aking diyos sapagkat sumasakanya ang espiritu ng mga banal na diyos. At inilahad ko sa kanya ang aking panaginip. Ang sabi ko: 9 Beltesazar, pinuno ng mga salamangkero, alam kong sumasaiyo ang espiritu ng mga banal na diyos at alam mo ang lahat ng hiwaga. Ngayo'y sasabihin ko sa iyo ang aking panaginip at ipaliwanag mo ito sa akin.
10 “Ito ang panaginip ko habang ako'y natutulog: May isang napakataas na punongkahoy na nakatanim sa gitna ng daigdig. 11 Tumaas ito hanggang sa langit kaya kitang-kita ito ng buong daigdig. 12 Madahon ang mga sanga nito at maraming bunga na maaaring kainin ng lahat. Sumisilong sa lilim nito ang mga hayop at ang mga ibon naman ay namumugad sa kanyang mga sanga. Dito kumukuha ng pagkain ang lahat ng nilalang.
13 “Nakita ko rin sa panaginip na bumababa mula sa langit ang isang anghel na nagbabantay. 14 Sumigaw siya nang malakas, ‘Ibuwal ang punongkahoy na iyan! Putulin ang mga sanga! Lagasin ang mga dahon at isabog ang mga bunga. Itaboy ang mga hayop na nakasilong dito pati ang mga ibong namumugad sa mga sanga nito. 15 Ngunit huwag gagalawin ang tuod at mga ugat nito. Tanikalaan ito ng bakal at tanso. Bayaan ito sa damuhan sa gitna ng parang. Bayaang mabasa ng hamog ang taong ito at manirahan sa parang kasama ng mga hayop at mga halaman. 16 Ang isip niya'y papalitan ng isip ng hayop sa loob ng pitong taon. 17 Ito ang hatol ng mga bantay na anghel upang malaman ng lahat na ang buong daigdig ay sakop ng Kataas-taasang Diyos. Maaari niyang gawing hari ang sinumang nais niya, kahit na ang pinakaabang tao.’
18 “Ito ang panaginip ko, Beltesazar. Ipaliwanag mo ito sa akin. Ito'y hindi naipaliwanag ng mga tagapayo ng Babilonia ngunit naniniwala akong kayang-kaya mo, sapagkat sumasaiyo ang espiritu ng mga banal na diyos.”
Ang Paliwanag ni Daniel sa Panaginip ng Hari
19 Si Daniel, na tinatawag na Beltesazar ay nabahala at hindi agad nakapagsalita. Sinabi sa kanya ng hari, “Beltesazar, huwag kang mabahala kung anuman ang kahulugan ng aking panaginip.”
Sumagot si Daniel, “Mahal na hari, sa mga kaaway nawa ninyo mangyari ang inyong panaginip. 20 Ang lumaking punongkahoy na nakita ninyo sa panaginip, tumaas hanggang langit at kitang-kita ng buong daigdig, 21 may makapal na dahon at maraming bungang makakain ng lahat, sinisilungan ng mga hayop at pinamumugaran ng mga ibon, 22 ay kayo po. Kayo ang lumakas at lumaking puno na abot sa langit na ang nasasakop ay hanggang sa magkabilang panig ng daigdig. 23 Ang bantay na inyong nakita ay isang anghel mula sa langit. Sinabi niyang ibubuwal ang punongkahoy at sisirain ngunit iiwan ang tuod nito at lalagyan ng tanikalang bakal at tanso. Sinabi pa niyang ito'y pababayaang mabasa ng hamog, at makakasama siya ng mga hayop sa parang at paparusahan sa loob ng pitong taon. 24 Ito po ang kahulugan, mahal na hari: Iyon ang hatol sa inyo ng Kataas-taasang Diyos. 25 Itataboy kayo sa parang at doon kayo maninirahang kasama ng mga hayop. Kakain kayo ng damo, tulad ng baka. Sa kaparangan kayo maninirahan at pitong taóng paparusahan hanggang sa kilalanin ninyong ang kaharian ng tao'y nasa ilalim ng kapangyarihan ng Kataas-taasang Diyos, at maibibigay niya ang kahariang ito sa sinumang kanyang naisin. 26 Ganito naman ang kahulugan ng tuod na naiwan sa lupa: Maghahari kayong muli sa sandaling kilalanin ninyo na lahat ng tao'y nasa ilalim ng kapangyarihan ng Diyos. 27 Kaya,(A) mahal na hari, dinggin po ninyo itong ipapayo ko. Tigilan na ninyo ang inyong kasamaan at magpakabuti na kayo. Huwag po kayong maging malupit sa mahihirap na mamamayan upang manatiling payapa ang inyong buhay.”
28 Lahat ng ito'y naganap sa buhay ni Haring Nebucadnezar. 29 Lumipas ang labindalawang buwan mula nang ipaliwanag ni Daniel ang panaginip. Minsan, namamasyal ang hari sa hardin sa bubong ng kanyang palasyo sa Babilonia. 30 Sinabi niya, “Talagang dakila na ang Babilonia. Ako ang nagtatag nito upang maging pangunahing lunsod at maging sagisag ng aking karangalan at kapangyarihan.”
31 Hindi pa siya natatapos sa pagsasalita nang isang tinig mula sa langit ang nagsabi, “Haring Nebucadnezar, pakinggan mo ito: Aalisin na sa iyo ang kaharian. 32 Ipagtatabuyan ka sa parang at doon maninirahan kasama ng mga hayop. Kakain ka ng damo tulad ng baka. Pitong taon kang mananatili sa gayong kalagayan hanggang sa kilalanin mong nasa ilalim ng kapangyarihan ng Kataas-taasang Diyos ang kaharian ng mga tao, at maaari niyang ibigay ito kaninuman niyang naisin.”
33 Nangyari agad kay Nebucadnezar ang sinabi ng tinig. Itinaboy siya sa parang at kumain ng damo, tulad ng baka. Nabasa siya ng hamog. Humaba ang buhok niya na parang balahibo ng agila, at ang kuko ay naging tila kuko ng ibon.
Patotoo ni Nebucadnezar
34 “Pagkatapos(B) ng takdang panahon, akong si Nebucadnezar ay tumingala sa langit at nanumbalik ang dati kong pag-iisip. Dahil dito, pinuri ko't pinasalamatan ang Kataas-taasang Diyos, ang nabubuhay magpakailanman.
Ang kapangyarihan niya'y walang hanggan,
ang paghahari niya'y magpakailanman.
35 Lahat ng nananahan sa lupa ay walang halaga;
ginagawa niya sa hukbo ng langit anumang naisin niya.
Walang maaaring mag-utos sa kanya
ni makakatutol sa kanyang ginagawa.
36 “Nang manauli ang aking pag-iisip, nanumbalik din ang aking karangalan at kapangyarihan. Muli kong tinanggap ang aking mga tagapayo at mga tagapamahala at ako'y naging higit na dakila at makapangyarihan kaysa dati.
37 “Kaya, akong si Nebucadnezar ay nagpupuri ngayon at nagpapasalamat sa Hari ng kalangitan sapagkat lahat ng gawa at tuntunin niya ay matuwid at makatarungan; ibinabagsak niya ang mga palalo.”

De tweede droom van koning Nebukadnezar
4 Dit is een boodschap van koning Nebukadnezar aan alle volken en landen van de wereld.[a]
Ik wens u allemaal grote vrede toe. 2 Ik wil u vertellen wat voor wonderlijke dingen de Allerhoogste God met mij heeft gedaan. 3 Want Hij doet geweldige dingen! Indrukwekkende wonderen! Hij is voor altijd Koning, Hij regeert door alle eeuwen heen!
4 Ik, Nebukadnezar, woonde rustig en gezond in mijn paleis. 5 Op een nacht had ik een vreselijke droom. Ik was erg onrustig over wat ik in die droom had gezien. Het maakte mij bang. 6 Daarom liet ik alle wijze mannen van Babel bij mij komen om mij de droom uit te leggen. 7 Ze kwamen allemaal: de geleerden, de tovenaars en de waarzeggers. Ik vertelde hun mijn droom, maar ze konden me niet vertellen wat hij betekende.
8 Tenslotte kwam Daniël bij mij (ik had hem naar mijn god vernoemd en de naam Beltsazar gegeven. In hem woont de geest van de heilige goden). Ik vertelde hem mijn droom. 9 Ik zei: "Beltsazar, jij bent het hoofd van de wijze mannen, want ik weet dat in jou de geest van de heilige goden woont. Jij kan elk raadsel oplossen. Vertel mij dus de betekenis van de droom die ik heb gehad.
10 Dit is wat ik droomde. Ik zag plotseling midden op de aarde een heel hoge boom staan. 11 Die boom werd steeds groter en sterker en zijn top kwam tot aan de hemel. Hij was tot aan het eind van de aarde te zien. 12 Hij stond prachtig in blad, en er zaten zoveel vruchten aan dat er genoeg was voor iedereen. De wilde dieren zochten bescherming in de schaduw van de boom. Tussen de takken woonden de vogels. 13 De droom ging verder terwijl ik zo in mijn bed lag. Ik zag een wachter, een engel, uit de hemel komen. 14 Hij riep luid: 'Hak de boom om en kap zijn takken af. Stroop zijn bladeren af en gooi de vruchten weg. Jaag de wilde dieren bij hem vandaan. Jaag de vogels weg uit zijn takken. 15 Maar laat de stronk in de grond staan. Doe er een band omheen van ijzer en koper. Laat hem zo in het gras staan. Hij zal water krijgen van de dauw en tussen de wilde dieren staan. 16 Zijn binnenste zal veranderen, zodat hij zich niet langer als een mens gedraagt, maar als een dier. Dit zal zeven jaar duren. 17 Dat is het vonnis van de wachters. Het is een bevel van de heilige engelen. Hierdoor zullen de mensen toegeven dat de Allerhoogste God de macht heeft over de koninkrijken van de mensen. Hij maakt koning wie Hij wil. Ja, zelfs de gewoonste mens kan Hij koning maken.'
18 Dit is de droom die ik had. Beltsazar, vertel mij wat het betekent, want niemand van de wijze mannen uit mijn koninkrijk kon dat. Maar jij kan dat wel, omdat de geest van de heilige goden in jou woont."
De betekenis van de droom
19 De koning vertelt verder: Beltsazar was geschokt en bleef een poosje zwijgend staan. Ik zei: "Beltsazar, wees niet bang mij te vertellen wat de droom betekent." Beltsazar antwoordde: "Mijn heer de koning, ik zou willen dat de droom over uw vijanden ging. 20 U zag een grote, sterke boom, die zo hoog was dat hij tot aan de hemel kwam. Hij was tot aan het eind van de aarde te zien. 21 Er zaten zoveel bladeren en vruchten aan dat er genoeg te eten was voor iedereen. De wilde dieren zochten er bescherming onder en de vogels woonden tussen de takken. 22 Die boom bent u, mijn heer de koning. U bent groot en machtig geworden. Uw macht reikt tot aan de hemel. U heerst over de hele aarde.
23 Toen zag u een wachter, een engel, uit de hemel komen. Die zei: 'Hak de boom om en vernietig hem. Maar laat de stronk in de grond staan, met een band er omheen van ijzer en koper. Laat hem in het gras staan. Hij zal water krijgen van de dauw en tussen de wilde dieren staan. Dat zal zeven jaar duren.'
24 Dit is wat dat betekent, mijn heer de koning. Het is de straf die de Allerhoogste God u gaat geven. 25 U zal bij de mensen weggejaagd worden en tussen de wilde dieren wonen. U zal gras eten als een koe en van de dauw drinken. Er zullen zeven jaar voorbij gaan, totdat u zal toegeven dat de Allerhoogste God de macht heeft over de koninkrijken van de mensen. Dat Hij de macht geeft aan wie Hij wil.
26 De engel zei dat de stronk van de boom moest blijven staan. Dat betekent dat u weer als koning zal regeren zodra u toegeeft dat de God van de hemel regeert.
27 Daarom wil ik u deze raad geven, mijn heer de koning: stop met het doen van dingen die God niet goed vindt. Wees goed voor de arme mensen en heers als een rechtvaardig koning. Dan zal dit allemaal misschien niet met u gebeuren, maar zult u in vrede blijven leven."
28 Maar wat ik gedroomd had, gebeurde met mij, koning Nebukadnezar. 29 Want toen er twaalf maanden voorbij waren, wandelde ik op een keer op het dakterras van mijn koninklijk paleis in Babel. 30 En ik zei: "Kijk toch eens! Wat heb ik van Babel toch een prachtige stad gemaakt. Dankzij mij is Babel zo geweldig geworden!" 31 Ik was nog maar net uitgesproken, of er klonk een stem uit de hemel: "Ik zeg u, koning Nebukadnezar, dat u vanaf dit moment geen koning meer zal zijn. 32 U zal bij de mensen worden weggejaagd en tussen de wilde dieren wonen. U zal gras eten als een koe en er zal zeven jaar voorbij gaan, totdat u toegeeft dat de Allerhoogste God de macht heeft over de koninkrijken van de mensen. Dat Hij de macht geeft aan wie Hij wil." 33 Op datzelfde moment gebeurde wat ik had gedroomd: ik werd bij de mensen weggejaagd, at gras als een koe en dronk van de dauw. Mijn haar werd zo lang als de veren van een arend en mijn nagels werden zo lang als de klauwen van een vogel.
34 Maar aan het eind van die tijd keek ik, Nebukadnezar, omhoog naar de hemel en kwam mijn verstand terug. Toen prees ik de Allerhoogste God. Want Hij is de God die eeuwig leeft. Hij is voor eeuwig Koning: Hij regeert door alle eeuwen heen. 35 Vergeleken bij Hem zijn de mensen helemaal niets. Hij doet wat Hij wil met de bewoners van de hemel en met de mensen op de aarde. Niemand kan Hem tegenhouden als Hij besloten heeft iets te doen. Niemand kan tegen Hem zeggen: 'Wat doet U daar?' 36 In de tijd dat mijn verstand terug kwam, kreeg ik ook het koningschap terug. Ik werd weer geëerd. Mijn raadgevers en ministers kwamen weer naar mij toe en ik regeerde weer als koning. Ik werd nog machtiger dan daarvoor. 37 En nu eer en prijs ik, Nebukadnezar, de Koning van de hemel. Alles wat Hij doet is goed en rechtvaardig. Hij weet trotse mensen weer nederig te maken.

4 [a] King Nebuchadnezzar to all peoples, nations, and languages that live throughout the earth: May you have abundant prosperity! 2 The signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me I am pleased to recount.
3 How great are his signs,
how mighty his wonders!
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and his sovereignty is from generation to generation.
4 [b] I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living at ease in my home and prospering in my palace. 5 I saw a dream that frightened me; my fantasies in bed and the visions of my head terrified me. 6 So I made a decree that all the wise men of Babylon should be brought before me, in order that they might tell me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the diviners came in, and I told them the dream, but they could not tell me its interpretation. 8 At last Daniel came in before me—he who was named Belteshazzar after the name of my god, and who is endowed with a spirit of the holy gods[c]—and I told him the dream: 9 “O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians, I know that you are endowed with a spirit of the holy gods[d] and that no mystery is too difficult for you. Hear[e] the dream that I saw; tell me its interpretation.
10 [f] Upon my bed this is what I saw;
there was a tree at the center of the earth,
and its height was great.
11 The tree grew great and strong,
its top reached to heaven,
and it was visible to the ends of the whole earth.
12 Its foliage was beautiful,
its fruit abundant,
and it provided food for all.
The animals of the field found shade under it,
the birds of the air nested in its branches,
and from it all living beings were fed.
13 “I continued looking, in the visions of my head as I lay in bed, and there was a holy watcher, coming down from heaven. 14 He cried aloud and said:
‘Cut down the tree and chop off its branches,
strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit.
Let the animals flee from beneath it
and the birds from its branches.
15 But leave its stump and roots in the ground,
with a band of iron and bronze,
in the tender grass of the field.
Let him be bathed with the dew of heaven,
and let his lot be with the animals of the field
in the grass of the earth.
16 Let his mind be changed from that of a human,
and let the mind of an animal be given to him.
And let seven times pass over him.
17 The sentence is rendered by decree of the watchers,
the decision is given by order of the holy ones,
in order that all who live may know
that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdom of mortals;
he gives it to whom he will
and sets over it the lowliest of human beings.’
18 “This is the dream that I, King Nebuchadnezzar, saw. Now you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are unable to tell me the interpretation. You are able, however, for you are endowed with a spirit of the holy gods.”[g]
Daniel Interprets the Second Dream
19 Then Daniel, who was called Belteshazzar, was severely distressed for a while. His thoughts terrified him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream or the interpretation terrify you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you, and its interpretation for your enemies! 20 The tree that you saw, which grew great and strong, so that its top reached to heaven and was visible to the end of the whole earth, 21 whose foliage was beautiful and its fruit abundant, and which provided food for all, under which animals of the field lived, and in whose branches the birds of the air had nests— 22 it is you, O king! You have grown great and strong. Your greatness has increased and reaches to heaven, and your sovereignty to the ends of the earth. 23 And whereas the king saw a holy watcher coming down from heaven and saying, ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave its stump and roots in the ground, with a band of iron and bronze, in the grass of the field; and let him be bathed with the dew of heaven, and let his lot be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him’— 24 this is the interpretation, O king, and it is a decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king: 25 You shall be driven away from human society, and your dwelling shall be with the wild animals. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen, you shall be bathed with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High has sovereignty over the kingdom of mortals, and gives it to whom he will. 26 As it was commanded to leave the stump and roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be re-established for you from the time that you learn that Heaven is sovereign. 27 Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: atone for[h] your sins with righteousness, and your iniquities with mercy to the oppressed, so that your prosperity may be prolonged.”
Nebuchadnezzar’s Humiliation
28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 30 and the king said, “Is this not magnificent Babylon, which I have built as a royal capital by my mighty power and for my glorious majesty?” 31 While the words were still in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven: “O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: The kingdom has departed from you! 32 You shall be driven away from human society, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass like oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you have learned that the Most High has sovereignty over the kingdom of mortals and gives it to whom he will.” 33 Immediately the sentence was fulfilled against Nebuchadnezzar. He was driven away from human society, ate grass like oxen, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails became like birds’ claws.
Nebuchadnezzar Praises God
34 When that period was over, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me.
I blessed the Most High,
and praised and honored the one who lives forever.
For his sovereignty is an everlasting sovereignty,
and his kingdom endures from generation to generation.
35 All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing,
and he does what he wills with the host of heaven
and the inhabitants of the earth.
There is no one who can stay his hand
or say to him, “What are you doing?”
36 At that time my reason returned to me; and my majesty and splendor were restored to me for the glory of my kingdom. My counselors and my lords sought me out, I was re-established over my kingdom, and still more greatness was added to me. 37 Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven,
for all his works are truth,
and his ways are justice;
and he is able to bring low
those who walk in pride.
