12 E o anjo continuou:
—Nesse momento chegará o grande príncipe Miguel[a], o qual protege ao seu povo.
“Será um tempo de muitas dificuldades e angústia,
nunca antes aconteceu algo assim de ruim
desde que as nações surgiram sobre a terra.
Mas nesse momento, todos os do seu povo,
cujos nomes estejam escritos no livro,
conseguirão se salvar.
2 A grande quantidade de mortos
que descansa debaixo da terra[b] se levantará.
Alguns irão disfrutar da vida eterna,
e outros serão envergonhados
e rejeitados para sempre.
3 Os mestres sábios brilharão
como a pureza do céu
e os que ensinaram ao povo
a seguir o caminho certo
brilharão para sempre
como as estrelas”.
4 —Daniel, guarde estas palavras como um segredo e sele o livro até o fim. Muita gente irá de um lado ao outro tentando achar o verdadeiro conhecimento. E o conhecimento aumentará.
5 Então, eu, Daniel, vi que outras duas pessoas estavam de pé. Cada uma delas estava numa das margens do rio. 6 O homem vestido com a túnica de linho estava sobre as águas do rio. Um dos homens que estava à margem lhe perguntou:
—Quanto tempo falta até que todas essas coisas maravilhosas aconteçam?
7 O homem vestido de linho que estava sobre as águas levantou as mãos em direção ao céu. Escutei que ele fez uma promessa no nome do Deus que vive para sempre e disse:
—Serão três anos e meio.[c] O poder do povo santo será destruído e depois acontecerá tudo isto.
8 Escutei o que o homem falou mas não entendi bem. Por isso lhe preguntei:
—Meu Senhor, o que vem depois de tudo isso acontecer?
9 Ele me respondeu:
—Daniel, siga o seu caminho. Tudo isso é um segredo e a mensagem seguirá oculta até o momento final. 10 Muita gente será provada e sairá purificada e aperfeiçoada. Mas os que têm sido malvados não mudarão e não entenderão nada disto. Em contrapartida, os homens sábios entenderão tudo e muito bem.
11 —Passarão 1.290 dias desde a proibição da oferta diária até que o ídolo abominável seja colocado no templo. 12 Será muito afortunado quem conseguir esperar e sobreviver os 1.335 dias. 13 Daniel, agora siga o seu caminho até o final. Você descansará e, então, nos últimos dias, se levantará para receber a sua recompensa.

12 E o anjo continuou, dizendo:
— Nesse tempo, aparecerá o anjo Miguel, o protetor do povo de Deus. Será um tempo de grandes dificuldades, como nunca aconteceu desde que as nações existem. Mas nesse tempo serão salvos todos os do povo de Deus que tiverem os seus nomes escritos no livro de Deus. 2 Muitos dos que já tiverem morrido viverão de novo: uns terão a vida eterna, e outros sofrerão o castigo eterno e a desgraça eterna. 3 Os mestres sábios, aqueles que ensinaram muitas pessoas a fazer o que é certo, brilharão como as estrelas do céu, com um brilho que nunca se apagará. 4 E você, Daniel, não conte nada disso a ninguém. Feche o livro com um selo para que fique fechado até o momento final. Muitos correrão de cá para lá, procurando ficar mais sábios.
5 Então eu vi dois anjos de pé na beira do rio, um de um lado, e o outro do outro. 6 Um deles perguntou ao anjo vestido com roupas de linho, que estava rio acima:
— Quando é que todas essas coisas maravilhosas vão acontecer?
7 O anjo levantou as mãos para o céu e em nome de Deus, que vive para sempre, disse:
— Eu juro que tudo isso vai acontecer daqui a três anos e meio quando terminar a perseguição do povo de Deus.
8 Mas eu não entendi bem e por isso perguntei:
— Por favor, me diga como é que tudo isso vai acabar.
9 E ele respondeu:
— Agora, Daniel, você pode ir embora, pois tudo isso deve ficar em segredo até o fim. 10 Muitos serão postos à prova, e com isso se purificarão, e se aperfeiçoarão. Os maus continuarão na sua maldade, e nenhum deles entenderá o que está acontecendo, mas os sábios entenderão. 11 Depois que os sacrifícios diários forem suspensos, e o “grande terror” for colocado no Templo, passarão mil duzentos e noventa dias. 12 Felizes aqueles que continuarem fiéis a Deus por mil trezentos e trinta e cinco dias!
13 — E você, Daniel, continue firme até o fim. Você morrerá, mas no fim ressuscitará para receber a sua recompensa.

12 “At that time Michael,
the great prince who watches over your people,[a]
will arise.[b]
There will be a time of distress
unlike any other from the nation’s beginning[c]
up to that time.
But at that time your own people,
all those whose names are[d] found written in the book,
will escape.
2 Many of those who sleep
in the dusty ground will awake—
some to everlasting life,
and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.[e]
3 But the wise will shine
like the brightness of the heavenly expanse.
And those bringing many to righteousness
will be like the stars forever and ever.
4 “But you, Daniel, close up these words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will dash about,[f] and knowledge will increase.”
5 I, Daniel, watched as two others stood there, one on each side of the river.[g] 6 One said to the man clothed in linen who was above the waters of the river, “When will the end of these wondrous events occur?” 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen who was over the waters of the river as he raised both his right and left hands to the sky[h] and made an oath by the one who lives forever: “It is for a time, times, and half a time. Then, when the power of the one who shatters[i] the holy people has been exhausted, all these things will be finished.”
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, “Sir,[j] what will happen after these things?” 9 He said, “Go, Daniel. For these matters are closed and sealed until the time of the end. 10 Many will be purified, made clean, and refined, but the wicked will go on being wicked. None of the wicked will understand, though the wise will understand. 11 From the time that the daily sacrifice is removed and the abomination that causes desolation is set in place,[k] there are 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits and attains to the 1,335 days. 13 But you should go your way[l] until the end.[m] You will rest and then at the end of the days you will arise to receive[n] what you have been allotted.”[o]

12 “At that time Michael,(A) the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress(B) such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book(C)—will be delivered.(D) 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake:(E) some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.(F) 3 Those who are wise[a](G) will shine(H) like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness,(I) like the stars for ever and ever.(J) 4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal(K) the words of the scroll until the time of the end.(L) Many will go here and there(M) to increase knowledge.”
5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.(N) 6 One of them said to the man clothed in linen,(O) who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?”(P)
7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand(Q) and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives forever,(R) saying, “It will be for a time, times and half a time.[b](S) When the power of the holy people(T) has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.(U)”
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?”
9 He replied, “Go your way, Daniel, because the words are rolled up and sealed(V) until the time of the end.(W) 10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined,(X) but the wicked will continue to be wicked.(Y) None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.(Z)
11 “From the time that the daily sacrifice(AA) is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation(AB) is set up, there will be 1,290 days.(AC) 12 Blessed is the one who waits(AD) for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.(AE)
13 “As for you, go your way till the end.(AF) You will rest,(AG) and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.(AH)”
