Daniel 1:11-20
English Standard Version
11 Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, 12 “Test your servants for (A)ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat (B)the king's food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” 14 So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. 15 At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate (C)the king's food. 16 (D)So the steward took away their food and the wine they were to drink, and gave them (E)vegetables.
17 As for these four youths, (F)God gave them learning and (G)skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had (H)understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 At the end of (I)the time, when the king had commanded that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king spoke with them, and among all of them none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore (J)they stood before the king. 20 And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all (K)the magicians and (L)enchanters that were in all his kingdom.

Daniel 1:11-20
New International Version
11 Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, 12 “Please test(A) your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. 13 Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.”(B) 14 So he agreed to this and tested(C) them for ten days.
15 At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.(D) 16 So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead.(E)
17 To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding(F) of all kinds of literature and learning.(G) And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.(H)
18 At the end of the time(I) set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.(J) 20 In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians(K) and enchanters in his whole kingdom.(L)
