Назначение семи помощников
6 В эти дни, когда число учеников стало расти, грекоязычные евреи начали жаловаться на палестинских. Они говорили, что те пренебрегают их вдовами, когда раздают ежедневную пищу. 2 Тогда двенадцать посланников Масиха созвали всех учеников и сказали:
– Мы не можем, оставив служение словом Всевышнего, заняться обслуживанием столов. 3 Поэтому, братья, выберите из вашей среды семь человек с хорошей репутацией, исполненных Духа и мудрости, и мы возложим на них эту обязанность. 4 Сами же мы будем продолжать молиться и нести служение слова.
5 Это предложение всем понравилось, и выбрали Стефана, человека, полного веры и Святого Духа, Филиппа, Прохора, Никанора, Тимона, Пармена и Николая из Антиохии, обращённого из язычников. 6 Их поставили перед посланниками Масиха, и те помолились и возложили на них руки.
7 Слово Всевышнего распространялось, и число учеников в Иерусалиме быстро увеличивалось, даже многие священнослужители покорились вере.
Арест Стефана
8 Стефан, человек, полный милости и силы Всевышнего, совершал в народе великие чудеса и знамения. 9 Некоторые из членов так называемого Молитвенного дома иудеев-вольноотпущенников (киренцев и александрийцев), а также иудеи из Киликии и провинции Азия, вступили в спор со Стефаном. 10 Но когда Стефан говорил, они ничего не могли противопоставить мудрости, которую Дух дал ему. 11 Тогда они тайно подговорили нескольких людей сказать: «Мы слышали, как Стефан говорил оскорбительные слова против пророка Мусы и Всевышнего».
12 Они возбудили народ, старейшин и учителей Таурата; напав на Стефана, они схватили его и привели в Высший Совет. 13 Представили лжесвидетелей, которые сказали:
– Этот человек постоянно говорит против святого храма и против Закона. 14 Мы слышали, как он говорил, что Иса из Назарета разрушит храм[a] и изменит обычаи, которые передал нам Муса.
15 Все сидевшие в Высшем Совете внимательно смотрели на Стефана и видели, что его лицо сияет, как лицо ангела.

6 Or in quei giorni, moltiplicandosi il numero dei discepoli, sorse un mormorio da parte degli Ellenisti contro gli Ebrei, perché le loro vedove veni vano trascurate nel servizio di assistenza quotidiana.
2 Allora i dodici, radunato il gran numero dei discepoli, dissero: «Non è bene che noi, lasciata la parola di Dio, serviamo alle mense.
3 Perciò, fratelli, cercate fra voi sette uomini, di cui si abbia buona testimonianza, ripieni di Spirito Santo e di sapienza, a cui noi affideremo questo compito.
4 Ma noi continueremo a dedicarci alla preghiera e al ministero della parola».
5 Questa proposta piacque a tutti i discepoli. Ed elessero Stefano, uomo ripieno di fede e di Spirito Santo, Filippo, Procoro, Nicanore, Timone, Parmena e Nicola, un proselito, di Antiochia.
6 Li presentarono poi davanti agli apostoli, i quali, dopo aver pregato, imposero loro le mani.
7 Intanto la parola di Dio si diffondeva, e il numero dei discepoli si moltiplicava grandemente in Gerusalemme; e anche un gran numero di sacerdoti ubbidiva alla fede.
8 Or Stefano, ripieno di fede e di potenza, faceva grandi prodigi e segni fra il popolo.
9 E alcuni della sinagoga, detta dei Liberti, dei Cirenei, degli Alessandrini e di quelli di Cilicia e d'Asia si alzarono per disputare con Stefano;
10 ma non potevano resistere alla sapienza e allo spirito col quale egli parlava.
11 Allora istigarono degli uomini che dicessero: «Noi lo abbiamo udito pronunciare parole di bestemmia contro Mosé e contro Dio».
12 Ed eccitarono il popolo, gli anziani e gli scribi; e, piombatigli addosso, lo trascinarono via e lo condussero davanti al sinedrio.
13 Poi presentarono dei falsi testimoni che dicevano: «Quest'uomo non cessa di proferire parole di bestemmia contro questo santo luogo e contro la legge.
14 Lo abbiamo infatti sentito dire che questo Gesú, il Nazareno, distruggerà questo luogo e muterà i riti che Mosé ci ha dato».
15 E tutti quelli che sedevano nel sinedrio, avendo fissati gli occhi su di lui videro il suo volto simile al volto di un angelo.

The Choosing of the Seven
6 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing,(A) the Hellenistic Jews[a](B) among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows(C) were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.(D) 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples(E) together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God(F) in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters,(G) choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit(H) and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them(I) 4 and will give our attention to prayer(J) and the ministry of the word.”
5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen,(K) a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit;(L) also Philip,(M) Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed(N) and laid their hands on them.(O)
7 So the word of God spread.(P) The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly,(Q) and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
Stephen Seized
8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs(R) among the people. 9 Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene(S) and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia(T) and Asia(U)—who began to argue with Stephen. 10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.(V)
11 Then they secretly(W) persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”(X)
12 So they stirred up the people and the elders and the teachers of the law. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin.(Y) 13 They produced false witnesses,(Z) who testified, “This fellow never stops speaking against this holy place(AA) and against the law. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place(AB) and change the customs Moses handed down to us.”(AC)
15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin(AD) looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.
