La quinta trompeta trae el primer terror

Entonces el quinto ángel tocó su trompeta, y vi una estrella que había caído del cielo a la tierra, y a la estrella se le dio la llave del pozo del abismo sin fondo.[a] Cuando lo abrió, salió humo como si fuera de un gran horno, y la luz del sol y el aire se oscurecieron debido al humo.

Entonces del humo salieron langostas y descendieron sobre la tierra, y se les dio poder para picar como escorpiones. Se les ordenó que no dañaran la hierba ni las plantas ni los árboles, sino solamente a las personas que no tuvieran el sello de Dios en la frente. Se les ordenó que no las mataran, sino que las torturaran durante cinco meses con un dolor similar al dolor que causa la picadura del escorpión. Durante esos días, las personas buscarán la muerte, pero no la encontrarán; desearán morir, ¡pero la muerte escapará de ellas!

Las langostas parecían caballos preparados para la batalla. Llevaban lo que parecían coronas de oro sobre la cabeza, y las caras parecían humanas. Su cabello era como el de una mujer, y tenían dientes como los del león. Llevaban puestas armaduras de hierro, y sus alas rugían como un ejército de carros de guerra que se apresura a la batalla. 10 Tenían colas que picaban como escorpiones, y durante cinco meses tuvieron el poder para atormentar a la gente. 11 Su rey es el ángel del abismo sin fondo; su nombre—el Destructor—en hebreo es Abadón y en griego es Apolión.

12 El primer terror ya pasó, pero mira, ¡vienen dos terrores más!

La sexta trompeta trae el segundo terror

13 Entonces el sexto ángel tocó su trompeta, y oí una voz que hablaba desde los cuatro cuernos del altar de oro que está en la presencia de Dios. 14 Y la voz le dijo al sexto ángel, que tenía la trompeta: «Suelta a los cuatro ángeles que están atados en el gran río Éufrates». 15 Entonces los cuatro ángeles que habían sido preparados para esa hora, ese día, ese mes y ese año, fueron desatados para matar a la tercera parte de toda la gente de la tierra. 16 Oí que su ejército estaba formado por doscientos millones de tropas a caballo.

17 Así en mi visión, vi los caballos y a los jinetes montados sobre ellos. Los jinetes llevaban puesta una armadura de color rojo fuego, azul oscuro y amarillo. La cabeza de los caballos era como la de un león, y de la boca les salía fuego, humo y azufre ardiente. 18 La tercera parte de toda la gente de la tierra murió a causa de estas tres plagas: el fuego, el humo y el azufre ardiente que salían de la boca de los caballos. 19 El poder de estos caballos estaba en la boca y en la cola, pues sus colas tenían cabezas como de serpiente, con el poder para herir a la gente.

20 Sin embargo, los que no murieron en esas plagas aun así rehusaron arrepentirse de sus fechorías y volverse a Dios. Siguieron rindiendo culto a demonios y a ídolos hechos de oro, plata, bronce, piedra y madera, ¡ídolos que no pueden ni ver ni oír ni caminar! 21 Esa gente no se arrepintió de sus asesinatos ni de su brujería ni de su inmoralidad sexual ni de sus robos.

Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit

Then the fifth angel sounded: (A)And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to (B)the [a]bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the (C)sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, (D)as the scorpions of the earth have power. They were commanded (E)not to harm (F)the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have (G)the seal of God on their foreheads. And [b]they were not given authority to kill them, (H)but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. In those days (I)men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them.

(J)The shape of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle. (K)On their heads were crowns of something like gold, (L)and their faces were like the faces of men. They had hair like women’s hair, and (M)their teeth were like lions’ teeth. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was (N)like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle. 10 They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had as king over them (O)the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is [c]Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name [d]Apollyon.

12 (P)One woe is past. Behold, still two more woes are coming after these things.

Sixth Trumpet: The Angels from the Euphrates

13 Then the sixth angel sounded: And I heard a voice from the four horns of the (Q)golden altar which is before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound (R)at the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released to kill a (S)third of mankind. 16 Now (T)the number of the army (U)of the horsemen was two hundred million; (V)I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision: those who sat on them had breastplates of fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow; (W)and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions; and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and brimstone. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed—by the fire and the smoke and the brimstone which came out of their mouths. 19 For [e]their power is in their mouth and in their tails; (X)for their tails are like serpents, having heads; and with them they do harm.

20 But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (Y)did not repent of the works of their hands, that they should not worship (Z)demons, (AA)and idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk. 21 And they did not repent of their murders (AB)or their [f]sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

12 (U)The first woe has passed; behold, two woes are still to come.

13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice from (V)the four horns of the golden altar before God, 14 saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release (W)the four angels who are bound at (X)the great river Euphrates.” 15 So the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour, the day, the month, and the year, were released (Y)to kill a third of mankind. 16 The number of (Z)mounted troops was (AA)twice ten thousand times ten thousand; (AB)I heard their number. 17 And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire[c] and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were (AC)like lions' heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths. 18 By these three plagues a third of mankind was killed, by the fire and smoke and sulfur coming out of their mouths. 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound.

20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (AD)did not repent of (AE)the works of their hands nor give up worshiping (AF)demons (AG)and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk, 21 nor did they repent of their murders or their (AH)sorceries or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

La cinquième trompette – le premier malheur : déchaînement des forces de l’abîme

Puis le cinquième ange sonna de la trompette ; et je vis un astre qui était tombé du ciel sur la terre. La clé du puits de l’abîme lui fut donnée. Il ouvrit le puits de l’abîme, et une fumée épaisse s’en éleva, comme celle d’une grande fournaise. Le soleil et l’air furent obscurcis par la fumée qui s’échappait du puits. De cette fumée sortirent des sauterelles qui se répandirent sur la terre. Il leur fut donné un pouvoir semblable à celui des scorpions. Elles reçurent l’ordre de ne pas faire de mal à l’herbe de la terre, ni à aucune plante verte, ni à aucun arbre, mais de s’attaquer seulement aux hommes qui ne portent pas le sceau de Dieu sur le front. Il leur fut donné, non pas de les tuer, mais de les torturer pendant cinq mois. La douleur qu’elles causaient ressemblait à celle qu’une piqûre de scorpion inflige à un homme. En ces jours-là, les hommes chercheront la mort mais ils ne la trouveront pas. Ils l’appelleront de leurs vœux, mais la mort les fuira.

Ces sauterelles ressemblaient à des chevaux harnachés pour la bataille. Elles avaient sur la tête comme des couronnes d’or, et leur face ressemblait à un visage humain. Leur chevelure était pareille à celle des femmes, et leurs dents à celles des lions. Leur thorax paraissait cuirassé de fer, et le bruit de leurs ailes évoquait le fracas d’une charge de chars tirés pour le combat par de nombreux chevaux. 10 Elles avaient des queues armées de dards comme celles des scorpions. C’est avec leur queue qu’elles pouvaient torturer les hommes pendant cinq mois.

11 Elles avaient pour roi l’ange de l’abîme qui s’appelle en hébreu Abaddon et en grec Apollyon.

12 Le premier malheur est passé. Voici : deux malheurs encore viennent après lui.

La sixième trompette – le deuxième malheur : invasion d’une formidable armée

13 Le sixième ange sonna de la trompette. J’entendis alors une voix sortant des quatre cornes de l’autel d’or qui se trouve devant Dieu. 14 Elle disait au sixième ange qui tenait la trompette : Libère les quatre anges qui sont enchaînés au bord du grand fleuve, l’Euphrate[a].

15 On délia donc les quatre anges tenus prêts pour cette heure, ce jour, ce mois et cette année, afin qu’ils exterminent le tiers de l’humanité. 16 Ils étaient deux cents millions de cavaliers combattants. C’était leur nombre, tel que je l’entendis.

17 Voici comment, dans ma vision, je vis les chevaux et leurs cavaliers : ils portaient des cuirasses rouge feu, bleu turquoise et jaune soufre ; les têtes des chevaux rappelaient celles des lions et leur gueule crachait du feu, de la fumée et du soufre. 18 Par ces trois fléaux qui sortaient de leur gueule : le feu, la fumée et le soufre, le tiers de l’humanité fut exterminé. 19 Car le pouvoir des chevaux se trouvait dans leur gueule et dans leur queue. En effet, leurs queues ressemblaient à des serpents, elles étaient pourvues de têtes qui leur servaient à nuire.

20 Mais le reste des hommes qui avaient survécu à ces fléaux, ne renoncèrent pas aux œuvres de leurs mains ; ils ne cessèrent pas d’adorer les démons ainsi que les idoles d’or, d’argent, de bronze, de pierre et de bois, bien qu’elles soient incapables de voir, d’entendre et de bouger. 21 Ils ne renoncèrent pas à leurs meurtres, à leurs pratiques magiques, à leur immoralité et à leur malhonnêteté.
