1 アモスはテコアの村に住む羊飼いでした。一日中、丘の中腹にいて、羊が迷い出ないように見張っていたのです。
イスラエルの隣人へのさばき
2 ある日、神はアモスに、イスラエルに起ころうとしていることを幻の中で語りました。この幻をアモスが見たのは、ウジヤがユダの王、ヨアシュの子ヤロブアムがイスラエルの王であった時で、地震が起こる二年前のことでした。
アモスは見聞きしたことを、次のように報告しています。
主は、ねぐらからほえるどう猛なライオンのように、
シオンの山にある神殿から、大声で叫びました。
すると突然、カルメル山のみずみずしい牧草地が
しおれて枯れ、羊飼いはみな、声を上げて泣きました。
3 主はこう言います。
「ダマスコの民は何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らは穀物を鉄の打穀棒で打つように、
ギルアデでわたしの民を打った。
4 だから、ハザエル王の宮殿に火を放ち、
ベン・ハダデの堅固なとりでを破壊する。
5 ダマスコの町の門のかんぬきを折り、
アベンの平野に住む者や、
ベテ・エデンで王位についている者を殺す。
シリヤの民は奴隷としてキルに戻る。」
6 主はこう言います。
「ガザは何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
ガザはわたしの民を追い出し、
エドムで奴隷として売った。
7 だから、ガザの城壁に火を放ち、
とりではすべて破壊される。
8 アシュドデの民を殺し、
エクロンと、アシュケロンの王を滅ぼそう。
残ったペリシテ人は滅びる。」
9 主はこう言います。
「ツロの民は何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らは兄弟であるイスラエルとの協定を破り、
攻撃をしかけて征服し、奴隷としてエドムに渡した。
10 だから、ツロの城壁に火を放ち、
とりでも宮殿も灰にする。」
11 主はこう言います。
「エドムは何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らは兄弟であるイスラエルを剣で追いかけ、
怒りにまかせて冷酷にふるまった。
12 だから、テマンに火をかけ、
ボツラのとりでをすべて灰にする。」
13 主はこう言います。
「アモンの民は何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らはギルアデの戦いで、領土を広げるために
残虐なことを行い、剣で妊婦を切り裂いた。
14 だから、ラバの城壁に火を放ち、
とりでと宮殿は灰となる。
嵐の時のつむじ風のように、
戦いのものすごい叫び声が上がる。
15 王も君主たちも捕囚として連れ去られる。」
2 主はこう言います。
「モアブの住民は何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らはエドムの王たちの墓を汚し、
死者を丁重に取り扱わなかったからだ。
2 今、その報いとしてモアブに火を放ち、
その火はケリヨテの宮殿をすべて破壊する。
勇士が叫び、角笛が鳴り響くうちに、
モアブは混乱の中で倒れる。
3 わたしは彼らの王を滅ぼし、その臣下をみな殺す。」
4 主はこう言います。

6 主はこう言います。
「イスラエルの民は何度もくり返して罪を犯し、
わたしはそのことを忘れない。
もうこれ以上、処罰を猶予しない。
彼らはわいろを取って公正な裁判を曲げ、
借金を返せない貧しい者を奴隷に売ったからだ。
それも、たったのくつ一足分の代金のために。
7 彼らは貧しい者を踏みつけ、
おとなしい者を足蹴にする。
父と息子とが同じ巫女を犯し、
わたしの聖なる名を傷つけている。
8 祭りの日には、
借金のかたに取った着物の上で横になり、
わたしの神殿に、
取り立てた金で買ったぶどう酒を携えて来る。
9 わたしが彼らにしてやったことを、よく考えてみよ。
目の前のエモリ人をこの地から追い払ったのは、
このわたしだ。
彼らは杉のように背が高く、樫の木のように強かった。
だが、わたしはその実を切り落とし、根を切った。
10 あなたがたをエジプトから連れ出し、
荒野の中を四十年間導き、
エモリ人の地を所有させたのだ。
11 また、あなたがたの息子の中から
ナジル人や預言者を選んだ。
イスラエルよ、そうではなかったか」と主は尋ねます。
12 「ところがあなたがたは、
ナジル人にむりやりぶどう酒を飲ませて罪を犯させ、
『うるさい、黙れ！』と言って預言者を沈黙させた。
13 だから、穀物を満載した荷車がきしむように、
あなたがたをうめかせよう。
14 あなたがたの中で一番すばやい戦士が逃げてつまずき、
強い者はみな弱くなり、
勇士ももはや自分のいのちを救えない。
15 射かける矢は、みなはずれ、
足の速い者も逃げのびれず、
熟達した騎手も危険地帯を逃げ切ることができない。
16 その日には、どんなに勇敢で力のある者も、
武器を捨てて、いのちからがら逃げる。」
神、主がこのように語ったのです。
イスラエルのさばきの証人
3 聞きなさい。これがあなたがたの運命です。エジプトから連れ出したイスラエルとユダの全家族に、主はこう言います。
2 「地上のすべての民の中から、あなたがただけを選んだ。
それだけに、その罪を罰しないわけにはいかない。
3 罪がわたしたちの間にあるのに、
どうして肩を並べて歩けるだろうか。
4 わたしは理由もなく、
ライオンのようにほえているのではない。
実は、あなたがたを滅ぼす準備をしている。
幼いライオンでも、うなり声を上げるのは、
えさに飛びかかる前だ。
5 罠は、踏みつけなければパチンと閉じたりしない。
あなたがたは当然の刑罰を受ける。
6 警告の角笛が鳴っている。
聞け。そして恐れよ。
主であるわたしが
あなたがたの地に災いを下そうとしているからだ。
7 わたしはいつも、
事が起こる前に預言者をとおして警告する。
今もそうしている。」
8 ライオンがうなり声を上げました。
恐れ、わななきなさい。
神である主の宣告が聞こえます。
それを宣言することをことわろうとは思いません。
9 「アシュドデとエジプトの指導者たちを
共に呼び寄せて、こう言え。
『さあ、サマリヤの山々に陣取って、
イスラエルの恥ずべき罪悪の現状を見届けよ。』
10 わたしの民は、正しいことを行うとはどういうことか
忘れてしまった」
と主は言います。
「彼らの宮殿は、
盗んだり奪い取ったりした物でいっぱいだ。
11 それゆえ、敵が来て、彼らは取り囲まれ、
とりでを破壊され、宮殿も略奪される。」
12 主は言います。
「羊飼いは羊をライオンから救い出そうとしたが、
間に合わなかった。
ライオンの口から、
二本の足と耳の一部をもぎ取っただけだった。
サマリヤのイスラエル人が
最後に助け出されるときもそうなる。
彼らに残っているのは、
壊れかかった椅子とぼろぼろの枕だけだ。」
13 全能の神である主は言います。
「これから言うことをよく聞き、
イスラエルにくまなく告げよ。
14 罪を犯したイスラエルを罰するその同じ日に、
ベテルの偶像の祭壇も取り壊す。
祭壇の角は切り取られ、地に落ちる。
15 金持ちの美しい家、冬の家と夏の家を破壊し、
象牙の宮殿も破壊する。」

1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa(A)—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake,(B) when Uzziah(C) was king of Judah and Jeroboam(D) son of Jehoash[a] was king of Israel.(E)
2 He said:
“The Lord roars(F) from Zion
and thunders(G) from Jerusalem;(H)
the pastures of the shepherds dry up,
and the top of Carmel(I) withers.”(J)
Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors
3 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Damascus,(K)
even for four, I will not relent.(L)
Because she threshed Gilead
with sledges having iron teeth,
4 I will send fire(M) on the house of Hazael(N)
that will consume the fortresses(O) of Ben-Hadad.(P)
5 I will break down the gate(Q) of Damascus;
I will destroy the king who is in[b] the Valley of Aven[c]
and the one who holds the scepter in Beth Eden.(R)
The people of Aram will go into exile to Kir,(S)”
says the Lord.(T)
6 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Gaza,(U)
even for four, I will not relent.(V)
Because she took captive whole communities
and sold them to Edom,(W)
7 I will send fire on the walls of Gaza
that will consume her fortresses.
8 I will destroy the king[d] of Ashdod(X)
and the one who holds the scepter in Ashkelon.
I will turn my hand(Y) against Ekron,
till the last of the Philistines(Z) are dead,”(AA)
says the Sovereign Lord.(AB)
9 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Tyre,(AC)
even for four, I will not relent.(AD)
Because she sold whole communities of captives to Edom,
disregarding a treaty of brotherhood,(AE)
10 I will send fire on the walls of Tyre
that will consume her fortresses.(AF)”
11 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Edom,(AG)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because he pursued his brother with a sword(AH)
and slaughtered the women of the land,
because his anger raged continually
and his fury flamed unchecked,(AI)
12 I will send fire on Teman(AJ)
that will consume the fortresses of Bozrah.(AK)”
13 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Ammon,(AL)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because he ripped open the pregnant women(AM) of Gilead
in order to extend his borders,
14 I will set fire to the walls of Rabbah(AN)
that will consume(AO) her fortresses
amid war cries(AP) on the day of battle,
amid violent winds(AQ) on a stormy day.
15 Her king[e] will go into exile,
he and his officials together,(AR)”
says the Lord.(AS)
2 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Moab,(AT)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because he burned to ashes(AU)
the bones of Edom’s king,
2 I will send fire on Moab
that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth.[f](AV)
Moab will go down in great tumult
amid war cries(AW) and the blast of the trumpet.(AX)
3 I will destroy her ruler(AY)
and kill all her officials with him,”(AZ)
says the Lord.(BA)
4 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Judah,(BB)
even for four, I will not relent.
Because they have rejected the law(BC) of the Lord
and have not kept his decrees,(BD)
because they have been led astray(BE) by false gods,[g](BF)
the gods[h] their ancestors followed,(BG)
5 I will send fire(BH) on Judah
that will consume the fortresses(BI) of Jerusalem.(BJ)”
Judgment on Israel
6 This is what the Lord says:
“For three sins of Israel,
even for four, I will not relent.(BK)
They sell the innocent for silver,
and the needy for a pair of sandals.(BL)
7 They trample on the heads of the poor
as on the dust of the ground
and deny justice to the oppressed.
Father and son use the same girl
and so profane my holy name.(BM)
8 They lie down beside every altar
on garments taken in pledge.(BN)
In the house of their god
they drink wine(BO) taken as fines.(BP)
9 “Yet I destroyed the Amorites(BQ) before them,
though they were tall(BR) as the cedars
and strong as the oaks.(BS)
I destroyed their fruit above
and their roots(BT) below.
10 I brought you up out of Egypt(BU)
and led(BV) you forty years in the wilderness(BW)
to give you the land of the Amorites.(BX)
11 “I also raised up prophets(BY) from among your children
and Nazirites(BZ) from among your youths.
Is this not true, people of Israel?”
declares the Lord.
12 “But you made the Nazirites drink wine
and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.(CA)
13 “Now then, I will crush you
as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.(CB)
14 The swift will not escape,(CC)
the strong(CD) will not muster their strength,
and the warrior will not save his life.(CE)
15 The archer(CF) will not stand his ground,
the fleet-footed soldier will not get away,
and the horseman(CG) will not save his life.(CH)
16 Even the bravest warriors(CI)
will flee naked on that day,”
declares the Lord.
Witnesses Summoned Against Israel
3 Hear this word, people of Israel, the word the Lord has spoken against you(CJ)—against the whole family I brought up out of Egypt:(CK)
2 “You only have I chosen(CL)
of all the families of the earth;
therefore I will punish(CM) you
for all your sins.(CN)”
3 Do two walk together
unless they have agreed to do so?
4 Does a lion roar(CO) in the thicket
when it has no prey?(CP)
Does it growl in its den
when it has caught nothing?
5 Does a bird swoop down to a trap on the ground
when no bait(CQ) is there?
Does a trap spring up from the ground
if it has not caught anything?
6 When a trumpet(CR) sounds in a city,
do not the people tremble?
When disaster(CS) comes to a city,
has not the Lord caused it?(CT)
7 Surely the Sovereign Lord does nothing
without revealing his plan(CU)
to his servants the prophets.(CV)
8 The lion(CW) has roared(CX)—
who will not fear?
The Sovereign Lord has spoken—
who can but prophesy?(CY)
9 Proclaim to the fortresses of Ashdod(CZ)
and to the fortresses of Egypt:
“Assemble yourselves on the mountains of Samaria;(DA)
see the great unrest within her
and the oppression among her people.”
10 “They do not know how to do right,(DB)” declares the Lord,
“who store up in their fortresses(DC)
what they have plundered(DD) and looted.”
11 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says:
“An enemy will overrun your land,
pull down your strongholds
and plunder your fortresses.(DE)”
12 This is what the Lord says:
“As a shepherd rescues from the lion’s(DF) mouth
only two leg bones or a piece of an ear,
so will the Israelites living in Samaria be rescued,
with only the head of a bed
and a piece of fabric[i] from a couch.[j](DG)”
13 “Hear this and testify(DH) against the descendants of Jacob,” declares the Lord, the Lord God Almighty.
14 “On the day I punish(DI) Israel for her sins,
I will destroy the altars of Bethel;(DJ)
the horns(DK) of the altar will be cut off
and fall to the ground.
15 I will tear down the winter house(DL)
along with the summer house;(DM)
the houses adorned with ivory(DN) will be destroyed
and the mansions(DO) will be demolished,(DP)”
declares the Lord.(DQ)

お力を見せてください。
光り輝くご栄光を現してください。
2 さあ、立ち上がり、
どれほど強い力で私たちを救い出してくださるのか、
エフライムやベニヤミンやマナセに
お見せになってください。
3 ああ神よ、おそばに戻らせていただきたいのです。
喜びと愛のまなざしを注いでください。
そうでなければ、私たちは救われることがありません。
4 天の軍勢の神である主よ、いつまで怒り、

1 Hear us, Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead Joseph like a flock.(A)
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,(B)
shine forth 2 before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.(C)
Awaken(D) your might;
come and save us.(E)
4 How long,(I) Lord God Almighty,
will your anger smolder(J)
against the prayers of your people?
5 You have fed them with the bread of tears;(K)
you have made them drink tears by the bowlful.(L)
6 You have made us an object of derision[b] to our neighbors,
and our enemies mock us.(M)
7 Restore us, God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.(N)
8 You transplanted a vine(O) from Egypt;
you drove out(P) the nations and planted(Q) it.
9 You cleared the ground for it,
and it took root and filled the land.
10 The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches.

4 それで私は、神とキリスト・イエスとの御前で、厳粛な思いで忠告します。〔キリストは、いつの日か神の国を完成させるために現れて、生きている者と死んだ者とをさばかれるお方です。〕 2 どんな時にも、神のことばを熱心に伝えなさい。機会があろうとなかろうと、つごうが良かろうと悪かろうと、しっかりやりなさい。過ちを犯している人には忠告して、正しい道に引き戻しなさい。そして善を行うよう励まし、神のことばを教え続けなさい。 3 なぜなら、人々が真理のことばを耳ざわりだと敬遠し、自分につごうの良い話をする教師を求めて歩き回る時代が来るからです。 4 彼らは聖書の教えに耳を傾けようとせず、まちがった教えにしっぽを振ってついて行くのです。 5 ですから、危機感をもって目を覚まし、警戒していなさい。主のために受ける苦しみを、恐れてはいけません。なすべきことを十分になして、他の人たちをキリストへ導きなさい。
6 こう言うのも、私の最期が迫っているからです。いつまでもあなたを助け続けるわけにはいきません。もうすぐ天国へ旅立ちます。 7 主のために、長いあいだ困難な戦いを続けてきた私は、主への真実を守り通しました。しかし今、ついに、休む時が来たのです。 8 天では栄冠が待っています。正しい裁判官である主が再び来られる日にいただく冠です。もちろん私だけにではなく、主を熱心に待ち望む人々全員に授けられるのです。
最後の指示
9 テモテよ。できるだけ早く、こちらへ来てください。 10-11 デマスはこの世の楽しみに心を奪われ、私を捨て、テサロニケに行ってしまいました。クレスケンスはガラテヤへ、テトスはダルマテヤへ出かけ、私のもとに残ったのはルカだけです。こちらへは、マルコも連れて来てください。彼に頼みたいことがあるのです。 12 〔テキコも、今はここにいません。エペソへ使いにやりました。〕 13 ついでに、私がトロアスのカルポの家に置いてきた上着を持って来てください。それから羊皮紙の書物も、お願いします。 14 銅細工人アレキサンデルが、私にひどい仕打ちをしました。主が罰してくださるでしょうが、 15 彼には気をつけなさい。私たちのことばに、ことごとく逆らったからです。
16 私が初めて、裁判官の前に連れ出された時、弁護してくれる人は一人もいませんでした。だれもが見捨てて、逃げてしまったのです。どうかそのことで、彼らが神から責められませんように。 17 しかし主は共にいて、私を助けてくださいました。神のことばがあらゆる国の人に伝えられるため、大胆に福音を語る機会を与えてくださいました。また、あわやライオンのえじきとなるところを、助け出してくださいました。 18 主は、いつもあらゆる悪から救い出し、ついには、天国に導き入れてくださるのです。神に、栄光がいつまでも限りなくありますように。アーメン。

4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,(A) and in view of his appearing(B) and his kingdom, I give you this charge:(C) 2 Preach(D) the word;(E) be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke(F) and encourage(G)—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.(H) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.(I) 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.(J) 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship,(K) do the work of an evangelist,(L) discharge all the duties of your ministry.

9 Do your best to come to me quickly,(U) 10 for Demas,(V) because he loved this world,(W) has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica.(X) Crescens has gone to Galatia,(Y) and Titus(Z) to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke(AA) is with me.(AB) Get Mark(AC) and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. 12 I sent Tychicus(AD) to Ephesus.(AE) 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas,(AF) and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
14 Alexander(AG) the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.(AH) 15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.
16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.(AI) 17 But the Lord stood at my side(AJ) and gave me strength,(AK) so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.(AL) And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.(AM) 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack(AN) and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.(AO) To him be glory for ever and ever.
