Dorcas Restored to Life

³⁶ Now there was in ^(A)Joppa a disciple named Tabitha, which, translated, means Dorcas.^[a] She was full of ^(B)good works and acts of charity. ³⁷ In those days she became ill and died, and when they had washed her, they laid her in ^(C)an upper room. ³⁸ Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, urging him, ^(D)“Please come to us without delay.” ³⁹ So Peter rose and went with them. And when he arrived, they took him to ^(E)the upper room. All the widows stood beside him weeping and showing tunics^[b] and other garments that Dorcas made while she was with them. ⁴⁰ But Peter ^(F)put them all outside, and ^(G)knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body ^(H)he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. ⁴¹ And he gave her his hand and raised her up. Then, calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. ⁴² And it became known throughout all Joppa, and ^(I)many believed in the Lord.

God Is Love

⁷ Beloved, ^(A)let us love one another, for love is from God, and ^(B)whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. ^8 (C)Anyone who does not love does not know God, because ^(D)God is love. ⁹ In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that ^(E)God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, ^(F)not that we have loved God ^(G)but that he loved us and sent his Son to be ^(H)the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

^19 (A)We love because he first loved us. ^20 (B)If anyone says, “I love God,” and ^(C)hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot^[a] love God ^(D)whom he has not seen. ²¹ And ^(E)this commandment we have from him: ^(F)whoever loves God must also love his brother.

^9 (A)As the Father has loved me, ^(B)so have I loved you. Abide in my love. ^10 (C)If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as ^(D)I have kept ^(E)my Father's commandments and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things I have spoken to you, ^(F)that my joy may be in you, and that ^(G)your joy may be full.

^12 (H)“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. ^13 (I)Greater love has no one than this, ^(J)that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are ^(K)my friends ^(L)if you do what I command you. ^15 (M)No longer do I call you servants,^[a] for the servant ^(N)does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for ^(O)all that I have heard from my Father ^(P)I have made known to you. ¹⁶ You did not choose me, but ^(Q)I chose you and appointed you that you should go and ^(R)bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that ^(S)whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, ^(T)so that you will love one another.
