A Good Report
1 (A)The elder to the beloved (B)Gaius, whom I (C)love in truth.
2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. 3 For I (D)was overjoyed when (E)brothers came and testified to your truth, that is, how you (F)are walking in truth. 4 I have no greater joy than [a]this, to hear of (G)my children (H)walking in the truth.
5 Beloved, you are acting faithfully in whatever you accomplish for the (I)brothers and sisters, and [b]especially when they are (J)strangers; 6 and they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to [c](K)send them on their way in a manner (L)worthy of God. 7 For they went out for the sake of (M)the Name, (N)accepting nothing from the Gentiles. 8 Therefore we ought to [d]support such people, so that we may [e]prove to be fellow workers [f]with the truth.
9 I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to (O)be first among them, does not accept [g]what we say. 10 For this reason, (P)if I come, I will call attention to his deeds which he does, unjustly accusing us with malicious words; and not satisfied with this, he himself does not (Q)receive the (R)brothers either, and he forbids those who want to do so and (S)puts them out of the church.
11 Beloved, (T)do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. (U)The one who does what is good is of God; (V)the one who does what is evil has not seen God. 12 Demetrius (W)has received a good testimony from everyone, and from the truth itself; and we testify too, and (X)you know that our testimony is true.
13 (Y)I had many things to write to you, but I do not want to write to you with pen and ink; 14 but I hope to see you shortly, and we will speak [h]face to face.
15 (Z)Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends (AA)by name.

1 Plaku, Gajit shumë të dashur, të cilin unë e dua në të vërtetë.
2 Shumë i dashur, unë dëshiroj të kesh mbarësi në çdo gjë dhe të gëzosh shëndet të mirë, ashtu si ka mbarësi shpirti yt.
3 Sepse u gëzova shumë kur erdhën disa vëllezër dhe dëshmuan për besnikërinë tënde ndaj së vërtetës, se si ecën ti në të vërtetën.
4 Nuk kam gëzim më të madh nga ky: të dëgjoj se bijtë e mi ecin në të vërtetën.
5 Shumë i dashur, ti vepron me besnikëri në të gjitha ato që bën për vëllezërit dhe të huajt.
6 Ata dëshmuan për dashurinë tënde përpara kishës; dhe ti të bësh mirë të gujdesësh për udhëtimin e tyre në mënyrë të denjë për Perëndinë,

10 Prandaj, po të vij, do t’i kujtoj atij veprat që bën, duke folur fjalë të liga kundër nesh; dhe duke mos u mjaftuar me këto, ai vetë nuk i pret vëllezërit dhe i ndalon ata që duan t’i presin e i përjashton nga kisha.
11 Shumë i dashur, mos imito të keqen, por të mirën. Ai që bën të mirën është nga Perëndia, por ai që bën të keqen nuk e ka parë Perëndinë.
12 Për Demetrin të gjithë dëshmojnë, madje edhe vetë e vërteta; edhe ne dëshmojmë për të, dhe ti e di se dëshmia jonë është e vërtetë.
13 Kisha shumë për të të shkruar, por nuk dua të të shkruaj me bojë e penë;
14 por shpresoj të të shoh së shpejti dhe do të flasim gojarisht. Paqja me ty. Të përshëndesin miqtë. Përshëndeti miqtë një për një.

5 Querido hermano, te estás portando fielmente en el servicio que prestas a los demás hermanos, especialmente a los que llegan de otros lugares. 6 Delante de la comunidad han hablado ellos de cuánto los amas. Por favor, ayúdalos en lo que necesiten para seguir su viaje, de manera agradable a Dios. 7 Pues ellos han emprendido su viaje en el servicio de Jesucristo, y no han aceptado ninguna ayuda de gente pagana. 8 Por eso nosotros debemos hacernos cargo de ellos, para ayudarlos en la predicación de la verdad.
Conductas opuestas de Diótrefes y Demetrio
9 Yo escribí una carta a la comunidad, pero Diótrefes no acepta nuestra autoridad porque le gusta mandar. 10 Por eso, cuando yo vaya le llamaré la atención, pues anda contando chismes y mentiras contra nosotros. Y, no contento con esto, no recibe a los hermanos que llegan, y a quienes quieren recibirlos les prohíbe hacerlo y los expulsa de la comunidad.
11 Querido hermano, no sigas los malos ejemplos, sino los buenos. El que hace lo bueno es de Dios, pero el que hace lo malo no ha visto a Dios.
12 Todos, incluso la verdad misma, hablan bien de Demetrio. También nosotros hablamos en favor suyo, y tú sabes que decimos la verdad.

13 Yo tenía mucho que decirte, pero no quiero hacerlo por escrito, 14 porque espero verte pronto y hablar contigo personalmente.
