6 David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah, to bring up from there God’s ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim. 3 They set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. 4 They brought it out of Abinadab’s house which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark. 5 David and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.
6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for God’s ark and took hold of it, for the cattle stumbled. 7 Yahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark. 8 David was displeased because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah[a] to this day. 9 David was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?” 10 So David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house. 11 Yahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house. 12 King David was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.”
So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy. 13 When those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf. 14 David danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
16 As Yahweh’s ark came into David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart. 17 They brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies. 19 He gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.
20 Then David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants’ maids, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”
21 David said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh. 22 I will be yet more undignified than this, and will be worthless in my own sight. But the maids of whom you have spoken will honor me.”
23 Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

2 Et David, avec tout le peuple qui était auprès de lui, se mit en marche depuis Baalé Juda, pour faire monter de là l'arche de Dieu, devant laquelle est invoqué le nom de l'Éternel des armées qui réside entre les chérubins au-dessus de l'arche.
3 Ils mirent sur un char neuf l'arche de Dieu, et l'emportèrent de la maison d'Abinadab sur la colline; Uzza et Achjo, fils d'Abinadab, conduisaient le char neuf.
4 Ils l'emportèrent donc de la maison d'Abinadab sur la colline; Uzza marchait à côté de l'arche de Dieu, et Achjo allait devant l'arche.
5 David et toute la maison d'Israël jouaient devant l'Éternel de toutes sortes d'instruments de bois de cyprès, des harpes, des luths, des tambourins, des sistres et des cymbales.
6 Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés à l'aire de Nacon, Uzza étendit la main vers l'arche de Dieu et la saisit, parce que les boeufs la faisaient pencher.
7 La colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre Uzza, et Dieu le frappa sur place à cause de sa faute. Uzza mourut là, près de l'arche de Dieu.
8 David fut irrité de ce que l'Éternel avait frappé Uzza d'un tel châtiment. Et ce lieu a été appelé jusqu'à ce jour Pérets Uzza.
9 David eut peur de l'Éternel en ce jour-là, et il dit: Comment l'arche de l'Éternel entrerait-elle chez moi?
10 Il ne voulut pas retirer l'arche de l'Éternel chez lui dans la cité de David, et il la fit conduire dans la maison d'Obed Édom de Gath.
11 L'arche de l'Éternel resta trois mois dans la maison d'Obed Édom de Gath, et l'Éternel bénit Obed Édom et toute sa maison.
12 On vint dire au roi David: L'Éternel a béni la maison d'Obed Édom et tout ce qui est à lui, à cause de l'arche de Dieu. Et David se mit en route, et il fit monter l'arche de Dieu depuis la maison d'Obed Édom jusqu'à la cité de David, au milieu des réjouissances.
13 Quand ceux qui portaient l'arche de l'Éternel eurent fait six pas, on sacrifia un boeuf et un veau gras.
14 David dansait de toute sa force devant l'Éternel, et il était ceint d'un éphod de lin.
15 David et toute la maison d'Israël firent monter l'arche de l'Éternel avec des cris de joie et au son des trompettes.
16 Comme l'arche de l'Éternel entrait dans la cité de David, Mical, fille de Saül, regardait par la fenêtre, et, voyant le roi David sauter et danser devant l'Éternel, elle le méprisa dans son coeur.
17 Après qu'on eut amené l'arche de l'Éternel, on la mit à sa place au milieu de la tente que David avait dressée pour elle; et David offrit devant l'Éternel des holocaustes et des sacrifices d'actions de grâces.
18 Quand David eut achevé d'offrir les holocaustes et les sacrifices d'actions de grâces, il bénit le peuple au nom de l'Éternel des armées.
19 Puis il distribua à tout le peuple, à toute la multitude d'Israël, hommes et femmes, à chacun un pain, une portion de viande et un gâteau de raisins. Et tout le peuple s'en alla, chacun dans sa maison.
20 David s'en retourna pour bénir sa maison, et Mical, fille de Saül, sortit à sa rencontre. Elle dit: Quel honneur aujourd'hui pour le roi d'Israël de s'être découvert aux yeux des servantes de ses serviteurs, comme se découvrirait un homme de rien!
21 David répondit à Mical: C'est devant l'Éternel, qui m'a choisi de préférence à ton père et à toute sa maison pour m'établir chef sur le peuple de l'Éternel, sur Israël, c'est devant l'Éternel que j'ai dansé.
22 Je veux paraître encore plus vil que cela, et m'abaisser à mes propres yeux; néanmoins je serai en honneur auprès des servantes dont tu parles.
23 Or Mical, fille de Saül, n'eut point d'enfants jusqu'au jour de sa mort.

The Ark of the Covenant Is Brought to Jerusalem
6 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel. There were 30,000 of them. 2 Then David and all his people went to Baalah in Judah.[a] They took the Ark of the Covenant of God from Baalah in Judah and moved it to Jerusalem. The Ark of the Covenant is called by the Name, the name of the Lord of heaven’s armies. His throne is between the gold creatures with wings that are on the Ark of the Covenant. 3 David’s men put the Ark of the Covenant of God on a new cart. Then they brought the Ark of the Covenant out of Abinadab’s house on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, led the new cart. 4 This cart had the Ark of the Covenant of God on it. Ahio was walking in front of it. 5 David and all the Israelites were playing all kinds of musical instruments before the Lord. They were made of pine wood. There were lyres, harps, tambourines, rattles and cymbals.
6 When David’s men came to the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled. The Ark of the Covenant of God began to fall off the cart. So Uzzah reached out and took hold of it. 7 The Lord was angry with Uzzah and killed him. Uzzah had not honored God when he touched the Ark of the Covenant. So Uzzah died there beside it. 8 David was angry because the Lord had killed Uzzah. So that place is called The Punishment of Uzzah even today.
9 David was afraid of the Lord that day. He said, “How can the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord come to me now?” 10 So David would not move the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord to be with him in Jerusalem. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom, a man from Gath. 11 The Ark of the Covenant of the Lord stayed in Obed-Edom’s house for three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his family.
12 The people told David, “The Lord has blessed the family of Obed-Edom. And all his things are blessed. This is because the Ark of the Covenant of God is there.” So David went and brought it up from Obed-Edom’s house to Jerusalem with joy. 13 When the men carrying the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord had walked six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fat calf. 14 Then David danced with all his might before the Lord. He had on a holy linen vest. 15 David and all the Israelites shouted with joy. They blew the trumpets as they brought the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord to the city.
16 Saul’s daughter Michal was looking out the window. She watched as the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord came into the city. When she saw David jumping and dancing before the Lord, she hated him.
17 David put up a tent for the Ark of the Covenant. Then the Israelites put it in its place inside the tent. David offered whole burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. 18 When David finished offering the whole burnt offerings and the fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of heaven’s armies. 19 David gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to everyone. He gave them to all the Israelites, both men and women. Then all the people went home.
20 David went back to bless the people in his home. But Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet him. She said, “The king of Israel did not honor himself today! You took off your clothes in front of the servant girls of your officers. You were like a foolish man who takes off his clothes without shame!”
21 Then David said to Michal, “I did it before the Lord. The Lord chose me, not your father. He didn’t choose anyone from Saul’s family. The Lord appointed me to be leader of his people, the Israelites. So I will celebrate in front of the Lord. 22 Maybe I will lose even more honor. And you may think little of me. But the girls you talk about will honor me!”
23 And Saul’s daughter Michal had no children to the day she died.
