Once David captured the fortress, he stayed there and named it the city of David. He built it up all around, carefully terracing the hillside from the Millo[a] inward. 10 And David continued to grow in power and reputation because the Eternal God, Commander of heavenly armies, was with him.

11 King Hiram of Tyre sent diplomats to David with cedars and carpenters and masons to build David a palace.

David then took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. He built up the area around it, from the terraces[a](A) inward. 10 And he became more and more powerful,(B) because the Lord God Almighty(C) was with him.(D)
