Canto de victoria de David(A)
22 David entonó este canto al Señor cuando el Señor lo libró de caer en manos de Saúl y de todos sus enemigos. 2 Dijo así:
«Tú, Señor, eres mi protector,
mi lugar de refugio,
mi libertador,
3 mi Dios,
la roca que me protege,
mi escudo,
el poder que me salva,
mi más alto escondite,
mi más alto refugio,
mi salvador.
¡Me salvaste de la violencia!
4 Tú, Señor, eres digno de alabanza:
cuando te llamo, me salvas de mis enemigos.
5 »Pues la muerte me enredó en sus olas;
sentí miedo ante el torrente destructor.
6 La muerte me envolvió en sus lazos;
¡me encontré en trampas mortales!
7 En mi angustia llamé al Señor,
pedí ayuda a mi Dios,
y él me escuchó desde su templo;
¡mis gritos llegaron a sus oídos!
8 »Hubo entonces un fuerte temblor de tierra:
temblaron las bases del cielo;
fueron sacudidas por la furia del Señor.
9 De su nariz brotaba humo,
y de su boca un fuego destructor;
¡por la boca lanzaba carbones encendidos!
10 Descorrió la cortina del cielo, y descendió.
¡Debajo de sus pies había grandes nubarrones!
11 Montó en un ser alado, y voló;
se le veía sobre las alas del viento.
12 Tomó como tienda de campaña
la densa oscuridad que le rodeaba
y los nubarrones cargados de agua.
13 Un fulgor relampagueante salió de su presencia;
llovieron carbones encendidos.
14 »El Señor, el Altísimo,
hizo oír su voz de trueno desde el cielo:
15 lanzó sus flechas, sus relámpagos,
y a mis enemigos hizo huir en desorden.
16 El fondo del mar quedó al descubierto;
las bases del mundo quedaron a la vista,
por la voz amenazante del Señor,
por el fuerte soplo que lanzó.
17 »Dios me tendió la mano desde lo alto,
y con su mano me sacó del mar inmenso.
18 Me salvó de enemigos poderosos
que me odiaban y eran más fuertes que yo.
19 Me atacaron cuando yo estaba en desgracia,
pero el Señor me dio su apoyo:
20 me sacó a la libertad;
¡me salvó porque me amaba!
21 El Señor me ha dado la recompensa
que merecía mi limpia conducta,
22 pues yo he seguido el camino del Señor;
¡jamás he renegado de mi Dios!
23 Yo tengo presentes todos sus decretos;
¡jamás me he desviado de sus leyes!
24 Me he conducido ante él sin tacha alguna;
me he alejado de la maldad.
25 El Señor me ha recompensado
por mi limpia conducta en su presencia.
26 »Tú, Señor, eres fiel con el que es fiel,
irreprochable con el que es irreprochable,
27 sincero con el que es sincero,
pero sagaz con el que es astuto.
28 Tú salvas a los humildes,
pero te fijas en los orgullosos
y los humillas.
29 Tú, Señor, eres mi luz;
tú, Dios mío, alumbras mi oscuridad.
30 Con tu ayuda atacaré al enemigo
y pasaré sobre el muro de sus ciudades.
31 »El camino de Dios es perfecto;
la promesa del Señor es digna de confianza.
¡Dios protege a todos los que en él confían!
32 ¿Quién es Dios, fuera del Señor?
¿Qué otro dios hay que pueda protegernos?
33 Dios es mi refugio poderoso,
quien hace intachable mi conducta,
34 quien me da pies ligeros, como de ciervo,
quien me hace estar firme en las alturas,
35 quien me entrena para la batalla,
quien me da fuerzas para tensar arcos de bronce.
36 »Tú me proteges y me salvas;
tu bondad me ha hecho prosperar.
37 Has hecho fácil mi camino,
y mis pies no han resbalado.
38 »Perseguí a mis enemigos, los destruí,
y sólo volví después de exterminarlos.
39 ¡Los exterminé! ¡Los hice pedazos!
Ya no se levantaron: ¡cayeron debajo de mis pies!
40 Tú me diste fuerza en la batalla;
hiciste que los rebeldes se inclinaran ante mí,
41 y que delante de mi huyeran mis enemigos.
Así pude destruir a los que me odiaban.
42 Pedían ayuda, y nadie los ayudó;
llamaban al Señor, y no les contestó.
43 ¡Los deshice como a polvo del suelo!
¡Los pisoteé como a barro de las calles!
44 Me libraste de las luchas de mi pueblo,
me mantuviste como jefe de las naciones,
y me sirve gente que yo no conocía.
45 En cuanto me oyen, me obedecen;
gente extranjera me halaga,
46 gente extranjera se acobarda
y sale temblando de sus refugios.
47 »¡Viva el Señor! ¡Bendito sea mi protector!
¡Sea enaltecido Dios, que me salva y me protege!
48 Él es el Dios que me ha vengado
y que me ha sometido los pueblos.
49 Él me libra de mis enemigos,
de los rebeldes que se alzaron contra mí.
¡Tú, Señor, me salvas de los hombres violentos!
50 Por eso te alabo entre las naciones
y canto himnos a tu nombre.
51 Concedes grandes victorias al rey que has escogido;
siempre tratas con amor a David y a su descendencia.»

David’s Song of Praise(A)
22 David sang(B) to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said:
“The Lord is my rock,(C) my fortress(D) and my deliverer;(E)
3 my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,(F)
my shield[a](G) and the horn[b](H) of my salvation.
He is my stronghold,(I) my refuge and my savior—
from violent people you save me.
4 “I called to the Lord, who is worthy(J) of praise,
and have been saved from my enemies.
5 The waves(K) of death swirled about me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
6 The cords of the grave(L) coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
7 “In my distress(M) I called(N) to the Lord;
I called out to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.
8 The earth(O) trembled and quaked,(P)
the foundations(Q) of the heavens[c] shook;
they trembled because he was angry.
9 Smoke rose from his nostrils;
consuming fire(R) came from his mouth,
burning coals(S) blazed out of it.
10 He parted the heavens and came down;
dark clouds(T) were under his feet.
11 He mounted the cherubim(U) and flew;
he soared[d] on the wings of the wind.(V)
12 He made darkness(W) his canopy around him—
the dark[e] rain clouds of the sky.
13 Out of the brightness of his presence
bolts of lightning(X) blazed forth.
14 The Lord thundered(Y) from heaven;
the voice of the Most High resounded.
15 He shot his arrows(Z) and scattered the enemy,
with great bolts of lightning he routed them.
16 The valleys of the sea were exposed
and the foundations of the earth laid bare
at the rebuke(AA) of the Lord,
at the blast(AB) of breath from his nostrils.
17 “He reached down from on high(AC) and took hold of me;
he drew(AD) me out of deep waters.
18 He rescued(AE) me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
19 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.(AF)
20 He brought me out into a spacious(AG) place;
he rescued(AH) me because he delighted(AI) in me.(AJ)
21 “The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness;(AK)
according to the cleanness(AL) of my hands(AM) he has rewarded me.
22 For I have kept(AN) the ways of the Lord;
I am not guilty of turning from my God.
23 All his laws are before me;(AO)
I have not turned(AP) away from his decrees.
24 I have been blameless(AQ) before him
and have kept myself from sin.
25 The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,(AR)
according to my cleanness[f] in his sight.
26 “To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
27 to the pure(AS) you show yourself pure,
but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.(AT)
28 You save the humble,(AU)
but your eyes are on the haughty(AV) to bring them low.(AW)
29 You, Lord, are my lamp;(AX)
the Lord turns my darkness into light.
30 With your help I can advance against a troop[g];
with my God I can scale a wall.
31 “As for God, his way is perfect:(AY)
The Lord’s word is flawless;(AZ)
he shields(BA) all who take refuge in him.
32 For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock(BB) except our God?(BC)
33 It is God who arms me with strength[h]
and keeps my way secure.
34 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;(BD)
he causes me to stand on the heights.(BE)
35 He trains my hands(BF) for battle;
my arms can bend a bow(BG) of bronze.
36 You make your saving help my shield;(BH)
your help has made[i] me great.
37 You provide a broad path(BI) for my feet,
so that my ankles do not give way.
38 “I pursued my enemies and crushed them;
I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
39 I crushed(BJ) them completely, and they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet.
40 You armed me with strength for battle;
you humbled my adversaries before me.(BK)
41 You made my enemies turn their backs(BL) in flight,
and I destroyed my foes.
42 They cried for help,(BM) but there was no one to save them—(BN)
to the Lord, but he did not answer.(BO)
43 I beat them as fine as the dust(BP) of the earth;
I pounded and trampled(BQ) them like mud(BR) in the streets.
44 “You have delivered(BS) me from the attacks of the peoples;
you have preserved(BT) me as the head of nations.
People(BU) I did not know now serve me,
45 foreigners cower(BV) before me;
as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.(BW)
46 They all lose heart;
they come trembling[j](BX) from their strongholds.
47 “The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted(BY) be my God, the Rock, my Savior!(BZ)
48 He is the God who avenges(CA) me,(CB)
who puts the nations under me,
49 who sets me free from my enemies.(CC)
You exalted me(CD) above my foes;
from a violent man you rescued me.
50 Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing the praises(CE) of your name.(CF)
