9 Allora il profeta Eliseo chiamò uno dei discepoli dei profeti e gli disse: «Cingiti i lombi, prendi con te questo vasetto di olio e va' a Ramoth di Galaad.
2 Quando vi sarai arrivato, cerca di vedere Jehu, figlio di Giosafat, figlio di Nimsci; entra, fallo alzare di mezzo ai suoi fratelli e conducilo in una stanza appartata.
3 Prenderai quindi il vasetto dell'olio e lo verserai sul suo capo, dicendo: Cosí dice l'Eterno: "lo ti ungo re d'Israele". Poi aprirai la porta e fuggirai senza alcun indugio».
4 Allora il giovane, il servo del profeta, partì per Ramoth di Galaad.
5 Quando vi giunse, trovò i capitani dell'esercito seduti insieme e disse: «Ho un messaggio per te, o capitano». Jehu chiese: «Per chi di noi?». Egli rispose: «Per te, capitano».
6 Allora egli si alzò ed entrò in casa; il giovane allora gli versò l'olio sul capo, dicendogli: «Cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: "lo ti ungo re sul popolo dell'Eterno, su Israele.
7 Tu colpirai la casa di Achab, tuo signore, cosí vendicherò il sangue dei profeti miei servi e il sangue di tutti i servi dell'Eterno, sparso per mano di Jezebel.
8 Tutta la casa di Achab perirà, e io sterminerò dalla casa di Achab tutti i maschi, schiavi o liberi, in Israele.
9 Cosí ridurrò la casa di Achab come la casa di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, e come la casa di Baasha, figlio di Ahijah
10 I cani divoreranno Jezebel nel campo di Jezreel e non vi sarà alcuno che le darà sepoltura"». Poi il giovane aperse la porta e fuggí.
11 Quando Jehu uscí dai servi del suo signore, uno gli chiese: «Va tutto bene? Perché quel pazzo è venuto da te?». Egli rispose loro: «Voi conoscete l'uomo e i suoi discorsi!».
12 Ma essi dissero: «E' falso! Orsú, diccelo!». Jehu rispose: «Egli mi ha detto cosí e cosí. dichiarando: Cosí dice l'Eterno: "lo ti ungo re d'Israele"».
13 Allora essi si affrettarono a prendere ciascuno il proprio mantello e a stenderlo sotto di lui sugli stessi gradini; poi suonarono la tromba e dissero: «Jehu è re!».
14 Cosí Jehu, figlio di Giosafat, figlio di Nimsci, ordí una congiura contro Joram. (Or Joram, con tutto Israele, stava difendendo Ramoth di Galaad contro Hazael, re di Siria;
15 poi il re Joram era tornato a Jezreel per farsi curare delle ferite che i Siri gli avevano inflitte mentre combatteva contro Hazael re di Siria). Jehu disse: «Se pensate allo stesso modo, nessuno esca o fugga dalla città per andare ad annunciarlo a Jezreel».
16 Poi Jehu montò sopra un carro e partí per Jezreel perché là giaceva ammalato Joram, e Achaziah, re di Giuda, era sceso per visitare Joram.
17 La sentinella che stava sulla torre di Jezreel scorse la schiera numerosa di Jehu che veniva e disse: «Vedo una schiera numerosa!». Joram ordinò: «Prendi un cavaliere e mandalo loro incontro per chiedere: "Recate pace?"».
18 Allora un uomo a cavallo gli andò incontro e gli disse: «Cosí chiede il re: "Recate pace?"». Jehu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro e seguimi». La sentinella riferí, dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto da loro, ma non torna indietro».
19 Allora Joram mandò un secondo cavaliere che, giunto da loro, disse: «Cosí chiede il re: "Recate pace?"». Jehu rispose: «Che importa a te della pace? Passa dietro e seguimi».
20 La sentinella riferì dicendo: «Il messaggero è giunto da loro, ma non torna indietro. Il suo modo di guidare e quello di Jehu, figlio di Nimsci perché guida all'impazzata».
21 Allora Joram disse: «Allestite il carro!». Cosí gli allestirono il carro. Poi Joram, re d'Israele, e Achaziah, re di Giuda, uscirono ciascuno sul proprio carro per andare incontro a Jehu e lo trovarono nel campo di Naboth di Jezreel.
22 Quando Joram vide Jehu, gli disse: «Rechi pace, Jehu?». Jehu rispose: «Che pace vi può essere finché durano le prostituzioni di tua madre Jezebel e le sue numerose magie?»
23 Allora Joram voltò il carro e fuggí dicendo ad Achaziah: «Tradimento, Achaziah!».
24 Ma Jehu tese l'arco con tutta la forza e colpí Joram fra le sue spalle; or la freccia gli trapassò il cuore ed egli stramazzò nel suo carro.
25 Poi Jehu disse a Bidkar, suo aiutante: «Piglialo e buttalo nel campo di Naboth di Jezreel perché ricordo, quando tu e io cavalcavamo insieme al seguito di Achab, suo padre, l'Eterno pronunciò contro di lui questo oracolo:
26 "Ieri ho certamente visto il sangue di Naboth e il sangue dei suoi figli", dice l'Eterno, "e io ti ripagherò in questo stesso campo", dice l'Eterno! Piglialo dunque e buttalo nel campo, secondo la parola dell'Eterno».
27 Vedendo questo, Achaziah re di Giuda fuggí per la strada della casa del giardino; ma Jehu gli corse dietro e disse: «Tirate anche a lui sul carro!». E, gli tirarono alla salita di Gur, che è vicino a Ibleam. Ma egli fuggí a Meghiddo, dove morí.
28 Allora i suoi servi lo trasportarono sopra un carro a Gerusalemme, e lo seppellirono nel suo sepolcro assieme ai suoi padri, nella città di Davide.
29 Achaziah aveva cominciato a regnare sopra Giuda nell'undicesimo anno di Joram, figlio di Achab.
30 Quando Jehu giunse a Jezreel, Jeze-bel lo venne a sapere. Allora ella si diede il belletto agli occhi, si acconciò la testa e si mise alla finestra a guardare.
31 Come Jehu entrava per la porta, ella gli disse: «Rechi pace, Zimri, uccisore del tuo signore?».
32 Jehu alzò gli occhi verso la finestra e disse: «Chi è con me? Chi?». Due o tre eunuchi si affacciarono guardando verso di lui.
33 Egli disse: «Buttatela giù!». Essi la buttarono e un po' del suo sangue schizzò contro il muro e contro i cavalli; e Jehu le passò sopra.
34 Poi entrò, mangiò e bevve; infine disse: «Andate a vedere quella maledetta donna e seppellitela, perché è figlia di re».
35 Andarono dunque per seppellirla, ma non trovarono di lei altro che il cranio, i piedi e le palme delle mani.
36 Tornarono cosí a riferire la cosa a Jehu, che disse: «Questa è la parola dell'Eterno pronunciata per mezzo del suo servo Elia il Tishbita, quando disse: "I cani divoreranno la carne di Jezebel nel campo di Jezreel;
37 il cadavere di Jezebel sarà nel campo di Jezreel come letame sulla superficie del suolo; cosí non potranno dire: Qui giace Jezebel"».

Jehu Anointed King of Israel
9 The prophet Elisha summoned a man from the company(A) of the prophets and said to him, “Tuck your cloak into your belt,(B) take this flask of olive oil(C) with you and go to Ramoth Gilead.(D) 2 When you get there, look for Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to him, get him away from his companions and take him into an inner room. 3 Then take the flask and pour the oil(E) on his head and declare, ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’ Then open the door and run; don’t delay!”
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “I have a message for you, commander,” he said.
“For which of us?” asked Jehu.
“For you, commander,” he replied.
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil(F) on Jehu’s head and declared, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge(G) the blood of my servants(H) the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel.(I) 8 The whole house(J) of Ahab will perish. I will cut off from Ahab every last male(K) in Israel—slave or free.[a] 9 I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam(L) son of Nebat and like the house of Baasha(M) son of Ahijah. 10 As for Jezebel, dogs(N) will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.’” Then he opened the door and ran.
11 When Jehu went out to his fellow officers, one of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did this maniac(O) come to you?”
“You know the man and the sort of things he says,” Jehu replied.
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me: ‘This is what the Lord says: I anoint you king over Israel.’”
13 They quickly took their cloaks and spread(P) them under him on the bare steps. Then they blew the trumpet(Q) and shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah(R)
14 So Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram and all Israel had been defending Ramoth Gilead(S) against Hazael king of Aram, 15 but King Joram[b] had returned to Jezreel to recover(T) from the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle with Hazael king of Aram.) Jehu said, “If you desire to make me king, don’t let anyone slip out of the city to go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then he got into his chariot and rode to Jezreel, because Joram was resting there and Ahaziah(U) king of Judah had gone down to see him.
17 When the lookout(V) standing on the tower in Jezreel saw Jehu’s troops approaching, he called out, “I see some troops coming.”
“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to meet them and ask, ‘Do you come in peace?(W)’”
18 The horseman rode off to meet Jehu and said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
“What do you have to do with peace?” Jehu replied. “Fall in behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them, but he isn’t coming back.”
19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them he said, “This is what the king says: ‘Do you come in peace?’”
Jehu replied, “What do you have to do with peace? Fall in behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “He has reached them, but he isn’t coming back either. The driving is like(X) that of Jehu son of Nimshi—he drives like a maniac.”
21 “Hitch up my chariot,” Joram ordered. And when it was hitched up, Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah rode out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They met him at the plot of ground that had belonged to Naboth(Y) the Jezreelite. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come in peace, Jehu?”
“How can there be peace,” Jehu replied, “as long as all the idolatry and witchcraft of your mother Jezebel(Z) abound?”
23 Joram turned about and fled, calling out to Ahaziah, “Treachery,(AA) Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu drew his bow(AB) and shot Joram between the shoulders. The arrow pierced his heart and he slumped down in his chariot. 25 Jehu said to Bidkar, his chariot officer, “Pick him up and throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth the Jezreelite. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Ahab his father when the Lord spoke this prophecy(AC) against him: 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth(AD) and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’[c] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”(AE)
27 When Ahaziah king of Judah saw what had happened, he fled up the road to Beth Haggan.[d] Jehu chased him, shouting, “Kill him too!” They wounded him in his chariot on the way up to Gur near Ibleam,(AF) but he escaped to Megiddo(AG) and died there. 28 His servants took him by chariot(AH) to Jerusalem and buried him with his ancestors in his tomb in the City of David. 29 (In the eleventh(AI) year of Joram son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king of Judah.)
Jezebel Killed
30 Then Jehu went to Jezreel. When Jezebel heard about it, she put on eye makeup,(AJ) arranged her hair and looked out of a window. 31 As Jehu entered the gate, she asked, “Have you come in peace, you Zimri,(AK) you murderer of your master?”[e]
32 He looked up at the window and called out, “Who is on my side? Who?” Two or three eunuchs looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.(AL)
34 Jehu went in and ate and drank. “Take care of that cursed woman,” he said, “and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter.”(AM) 35 But when they went out to bury her, they found nothing except her skull, her feet and her hands. 36 They went back and told Jehu, who said, “This is the word of the Lord that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs(AN) will devour Jezebel’s flesh.[f](AO) 37 Jezebel’s body will be like dung(AP) on the ground in the plot at Jezreel, so that no one will be able to say, ‘This is Jezebel.’”

Se consagra a Jehú como rey de Israel
9 El profeta Eliseo llamó a uno de los discípulos de los profetas y le dijo:
—Prepárate, toma este frasco en tu mano y ve a Ramot de Galaad. 2 Al llegar ahí, busca a Jehú, el hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi. Apártalo de sus hermanos y llévalo a un cuarto. 3 Toma el frasco de aceite, derrámaselo sobre la cabeza y dile: “Así dice el SEÑOR: Te consagro como el nuevo rey de Israel”. Luego corre rápido y escapa. No te detengas para nada.
4 Entonces este joven profeta fue a Ramot de Galaad. 5 Cuando llegó el joven, vio que todos los capitanes del ejército estaban sentados y dijo:
—Capitán, tengo un mensaje para usted.
Jehú le preguntó:
—¿Para cuál de nosotros es el mensaje?
El joven le dijo:
—Para usted, señor.
6 Jehú se levantó y entró a la casa. Entonces el joven profeta derramó el aceite la cabeza de Jehú y le dijo: «El SEÑOR Dios de Israel dice: “Te consagro como el nuevo rey de Israel, el pueblo del SEÑOR. 7 Tienes que destruir a la familia de tu rey Acab y así castigaré a Jezabel por la muerte de mis siervos los profetas y la de todos los siervos del SEÑOR que fueron asesinados. 8 Así toda la familia de Acab morirá. No quedará en Israel ningún hijo de la familia de Acab, sea esclavo o libre. 9 La familia de Acab terminará como la familia de Jeroboán hijo de Nabat y como la familia de Basá hijo de Ahías. 10 Los perros se comerán a Jezabel en el área de Jezrel, y nadie le dará sepultura”».
Y el joven profeta abrió la puerta y salió corriendo.
Los siervos proclaman rey a Jehú
11 Jehú regresó a los oficiales del rey. Uno de ellos le preguntó a Jehú:
—¿Está todo bien? ¿A qué se te acercó ese loco?
Jehú contestó a los oficiales:
—Ya lo conocen a él y las locuras que dice.
12 Los oficiales dijeron:
—¡No! Dinos la verdad. ¿Qué te dijo?
Jehú les contó a los oficiales lo que el joven profeta le había dicho. Jehú dijo:
—Me dijo esto y esto, y: “El SEÑOR dice: Te he consagrado como el nuevo rey de Israel”.
13 Entonces cada oficial se quitó el manto y lo puso en las gradas ante Jehú. Tocaron la trompeta y proclamaron: «¡Viva el rey Jehú!»
14 Así que Jehú, hijo de Josafat y nieto de Nimsi, conspiró contra Jorán.
En aquel tiempo Jorán y los israelitas estaban defendiendo a Ramot de Galaad contra el ataque de Jazael, rey de Siria. 15 El rey Jorán había luchado contra Jazael, rey de Siria. Pero los sirios lo habían herido, y el rey se había ido a Jezrel para curarse las heridas. Entonces Jehú les dijo a los oficiales:
—Si están de acuerdo con que yo sea el nuevo rey, entonces no permitan que nadie se escape de la ciudad para contar las noticias en Jezrel.
16 Jorán estaba descansando en Jezrel, así que Jehú subió a su carro y se fue hasta Jezrel. Ocozías, rey de Judá, también había ido a Jezrel para ver a Jorán. 17 Un guarda estaba parado en la torre de Jezrel. Cuando vio acercarse al grupo de Jehú, avisó:
—¡Viene mucha gente!
Entonces Jorán dijo:
—Manden a su encuentro un mensajero a caballo para averiguar si vienen en son de paz.
18 Así que el mensajero fue al encuentro de Jehú y le dijo:
—El rey Jorán te pregunta: “¿Vienes en son de paz?”
Jehú le dijo:
—A ti no te concierne si vengo en son de paz. Ven y sígueme.
El guarda le avisó a Jorán:
—El mensajero salió al encuentro del grupo, pero no regresó.
19 Entonces Jorán mandó un segundo mensajero a caballo. Se acercó al grupo de Jehú y les dijo:
—El rey Jorán dice: “Paz”.[a]
Jehú contestó:
—A ti no te concierne si vengo en son de paz. Ven y sígueme.
20 El guarda avisó a Jorán:
—El segundo mensajero no ha vuelto. Hay un hombre manejando un carro como loco, a la manera de Jehú hijo de Nimsi.
21 Jorán dijo:
—¡Tráiganme el carro!
Así que los siervos trajeron el carro de Jorán. Tanto Jorán, rey de Israel, como Ocozías, rey de Judá, subieron a sus carros y salieron al encuentro de Jehú. Se encontraron con Jehú en la propiedad de Nabot de Jezrel.
22 Jorán vio a Jehú y le preguntó:
—¿Vienes en son de paz, Jehú?
Jehú contestó:
—No hay paz mientras tu mamá Jezabel siga cometiendo prostitución y brujería.
23 Jorán se dio media vuelta para escapar y le dijo a Ocozías:
—¡Traición, Ocozías!
24 Pero Jehú agarró su arco y le disparó a Jorán en la espalda, penetrando su corazón. Jorán cayó muerto en su carro. 25 Jehú le dijo a Bidcar, el oficial ayudante que manejaba su carro:
—Lleva el cuerpo de Jorán y tíralo al viñedo de Nabot de Jezrel. Recuerda que cuando tú y yo cabalgábamos con su papá Acab, el SEÑOR dijo que eso iba a ocurrir. 26 El SEÑOR dijo: “Ayer vi la sangre de Nabot y sus hijos, y así castigaré a Acab en este campo, dijo el SEÑOR”. Así que lleva el cuerpo de Jorán y tíralo en el campo, tal como dijo el SEÑOR.
27 Cuando Ocozías, rey de Judá, vio todo esto, intentó escapar por la casa del jardín, pero Jehú lo persiguió, diciendo:
—¡Mátenlo también a él!
Hirieron a Ocozías mientras este huía en su carro en el camino hacia Gur cerca de Ibleam. Alcanzó a llegar a Meguido, pero allí murió. 28 Los siervos de Ocozías llevaron su cuerpo en el carro hasta Jerusalén y lo sepultaron en la tumba con sus antepasados en la Ciudad de David.
29 Ocozías había comenzado a reinar en Judá en el undécimo año del reinado de Jorán hijo de Acab en Israel.
Muerte de Jezabel
30 Jehú se acercó a Jezrel, y Jezabel se enteró de las noticias. Se maquilló los ojos, arregló su cabello y se asomó por la ventana. 31 Cuando Jehú entró en la ciudad, Jezabel le dijo:
—Hola, Zimri[b]. Al igual que él, mataste a tu amo.
32 Jehú miró hacia la ventana y dijo:
—¿Quién está de mi lado? ¿Quién?
Entonces se asomaron dos o tres eunucos, 33 y Jehú les dijo:
—¡Arrojen a Jezabel!
Entonces los eunucos arrojaron a Jezabel por la ventana. La sangre de Jezabel salpicó las paredes y los caballos pisotearon su cuerpo. 34 Entonces Jehú entró en la casa para comer y beber, y dijo:
—Ahora encárguense de esa maldita mujer y sepúltenla, porque al fin y al cabo era hija de un rey.
35 Cuando los hombres salieron a sepultar a Jezabel, no encontraron su cadáver. Sólo encontraron el cráneo, los pies y las palmas de sus manos. 36 Le comentaron esto a Jehú, quien les dijo:
—El SEÑOR le había dicho a su siervo Elías el tisbita: “Los perros se comerán el cuerpo de Jezabel en Jezrel. 37 Su cuerpo será como un campo donde se guarda estiércol en Jezrel y nadie podrá reconocerlo”.
