3 knowing this first, that [a]in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, 4 and saying, Where is the promise of his [b]coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they wilfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth compacted out of water and [c]amidst water, by the word of God; 6 by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days(A) scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.(B) 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?(C) Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”(D) 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word(E) the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water.(F) 6 By these waters also the world of that time(G) was deluged and destroyed.(H)
