Elias himmelsfärd
2 Vid den tid då Herren ville ta upp Elia till himlen i en stormvind, gick Elia och Elisa från Gilgal. 2 Elia sade till Elisa: "Stanna här, för Herren har sänt mig till Betel." Men Elisa svarade: "Så sant Herren lever och så sant du själv lever, jag lämnar dig inte." Och de gick ner till Betel. 3 Då kom profetlärjungarna i Betel ut till Elisa och sade till honom: "Vet du att Herren skall ta din herre ifrån dig i dag, upp över ditt huvud?" Han svarade: "Ja, jag vet. Men var tysta!"
4 Elia sade till honom: "Elisa, stanna här, för Herren har sänt mig till Jeriko." Men han svarade: "Så sant Herren lever och så sant du själv lever, jag lämnar dig inte." Och de kom till Jeriko. 5 Då gick profetlärjungarna i Jeriko fram till Elisa och sade till honom: "Vet du att Herren skall ta din herre ifrån dig i dag, upp över ditt huvud?"
Han svarade: "Ja, jag vet. Men var tysta!"
6 Elia sade till honom: "Stanna här, för Herren har sänt mig till Jordan." Men han svarade: "Så sant Herren lever och så sant du själv lever, jag lämnar dig inte." Och de gick båda vidare. 7 Men femtio av profetlärjungarna gick och ställde sig på något avstånd längre bort, medan de båda stod vid Jordan. 8 Elia tog sin mantel, vek ihop den och slog på vattnet. Då delade detta sig åt båda sidor och de gick bägge igenom på torr mark. 9 När de hade kommit över sade Elia till Elisa: "Bed mig om vad du vill att jag skall göra för dig, innan jag tas ifrån dig." Elisa sade: "Må en dubbel arvslott av din ande komma över mig."
10 Han svarade: "Du har bett om något svårt. Men om du ser mig, när jag blir tagen ifrån dig, då kommer det att ske dig så. Annars sker det inte." 11 Medan de gick och samtalade, se, då kom en vagn av eld med hästar av eld och skilde de båda från varandra. Och Elia for i stormvinden upp till himlen. 12 Elisa såg det och ropade: "Min fader, min fader! Du som för Israel är både vagnar och ryttare!" Sedan såg han honom inte mer. Elisa tog tag i sina kläder och rev dem mitt itu. 13 Därefter tog han upp Elias mantel, som hade fallit av denne, och vände tillbaka och ställde sig vid Jordans strand. 14 Han tog Elias mantel, som hade fallit av denne, och slog på vattnet och sade: "Var är Herren, Elias Gud?" Då nu också Elisa slog på vattnet, delade det sig åt båda sidor, och han gick över.
15 När de profetlärjungar som var vid Jeriko på något avstånd såg detta, sade de: "Elias ande vilar på Elisa." De gick emot honom och bugade sig till marken för honom. 16 Och de sade till honom: "Se, bland dina tjänare finns femtio tappra män. Låt dem gå och söka efter din herre. Kanske har Herrens Ande lyft upp honom och kastat honom på något berg eller i någon dal." Men han svarade: "Sänd inte i väg någon." 17 Men de fortsatte att envist be honom till dess han kände sig besvärad, så han sade: "Skicka i väg dem!" Då sände de i väg de femtio männen, och dessa sökte efter Elia i tre dagar men fann honom inte. 18 När de sedan kom tillbaka till honom medan han ännu var kvar i Jeriko, sade han till dem: "Sade jag inte till er att ni inte skulle gå?"
Vattnet vid Jeriko
19 Männen i staden sade till Elisa: "Staden har ett bra läge, som min herre ser, men vattnet är dåligt och jorden bär ingen frukt."
20 Han sade: "Hämta åt mig en ny skål och lägg salt i den." Och de hämtade en sådan åt honom. 21 Därefter gick han ut till vattenkällan och kastade salt i den och sade: "Så säger Herren: Jag har nu gjort detta vatten hälsosamt. Det skall inte längre komma död och ofruktsamhet av det." 22 Och vattnet blev hälsosamt och är så än i dag enligt det ord Elisa talade.
Pojkarna vid Betel
23 Därefter begav han sig upp till Betel. Medan han var på väg dit upp kom en skara småpojkar ut ur staden. De började håna honom och ropade till honom: "Upp med dig, du flintskalle! Upp med dig, du flintskalle!" 24 När han vände sig om och fick se dem, förbannade han dem i Herrens namn. Då kom två björnhonor ut ur skogen och rev ihjäl fyrtiotvå av pojkarna. 25 Därifrån gick han till berget Karmel och vände sedan tillbaka till Samaria.

Elijah Taken Up to Heaven
2 When the Lord was about to take(A) Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind,(B) Elijah and Elisha(C) were on their way from Gilgal.(D) 2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here;(E) the Lord has sent me to Bethel.”
But Elisha said, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”(F) So they went down to Bethel.
3 The company(G) of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” Elisha replied, “so be quiet.”
4 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.(H)”
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5 The company(I) of the prophets at Jericho went up to Elisha and asked him, “Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?”
“Yes, I know,” he replied, “so be quiet.”
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here;(J) the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.”(K)
And he replied, “As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.”(L) So the two of them walked on.
7 Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. 8 Elijah took his cloak,(M) rolled it up and struck(N) the water with it. The water divided(O) to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry(P) ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?”
“Let me inherit a double(Q) portion of your spirit,”(R) Elisha replied.
10 “You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah said, “yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.”
11 As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire(S) and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven(T) in a whirlwind.(U) 12 Elisha saw this and cried out, “My father! My father! The chariots(V) and horsemen of Israel!” And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore(W) it in two.
13 Elisha then picked up Elijah’s cloak that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. 14 He took the cloak(X) that had fallen from Elijah and struck(Y) the water with it. “Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.
15 The company(Z) of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, “The spirit(AA) of Elijah is resting on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 16 “Look,” they said, “we your servants have fifty able men. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit(AB) of the Lord has picked him up(AC) and set him down on some mountain or in some valley.”
“No,” Elisha replied, “do not send them.”
17 But they persisted until he was too embarrassed(AD) to refuse. So he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find him. 18 When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”
Healing of the Water
19 The people of the city said to Elisha, “Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.”
20 “Bring me a new bowl,” he said, “and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him.
21 Then he went out to the spring and threw(AE) the salt into it, saying, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.’” 22 And the water has remained pure(AF) to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.
Elisha Is Jeered
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered(AG) at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse(AH) on them in the name(AI) of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys. 25 And he went on to Mount Carmel(AJ) and from there returned to Samaria.
