Juda door Babel veroverd
24 Tijdens de regering van koning Jojakim viel koning Nebukadnezar van Babel Jeruzalem aan. Jojakim werd overwonnen en diende Nebukadnezar drie jaar, maar kwam toen in opstand. 2 De Here stuurde benden Chaldeeën, Syriërs, Moabieten en Ammonieten op Juda af om het land te verwoesten, precies zoals Hij waarschuwend door zijn profeten had laten meedelen. 3,4 Het is duidelijk: deze ramp over Juda kwam in overeenstemming met wat de Here had gezegd. Hij had besloten Juda voor zijn ogen weg te vagen om de vele zonden van Manasse, die in Jeruzalem onschuldig bloed had laten vloeien. De Here wilde dat niet vergeven.
5 De rest van de levensgeschiedenis van Jojakim is te lezen in de Kronieken van de koningen van Juda. 6 Na zijn dood werd zijn zoon Jojachin koning van Juda. 7 De Egyptische farao liet zich na die tijd buiten zijn grenzen nooit meer zien, want de koning van Babel had het hele gebied veroverd dat Egypte had toebehoord, van de Nijl tot aan de Eufraat.
8 Jojachin, de nieuwe koning van Juda was achttien jaar oud bij zijn troonsbestijging. Zijn bewind in Jeruzalem duurde slechts drie maanden. Nehusta, een dochter van Elnathan uit Jeruzalem, was zijn moeder. 9 Zijn bewind was goddeloos, net als dat van zijn vader. 10 Tijdens zijn regering belegerden de troepen van koning Nebukadnezar van Babel de stad Jeruzalem. 11 Nebukadnezar kwam na het begin van het beleg zelf naar Jeruzalem 12 en koning Jojachin, al zijn dienaren en de koningin-moeder gaven zich aan hem over. Jojachin werd gevangengenomen in het achtste jaar van Nebukadnezars bewind.
13 De Babyloniërs haalden alle schatten uit de tempel en het koninklijk paleis en namen alles mee naar Babel. Ook al het goud dat koning Salomo op bevel van de Here in de tempel had aangebracht, haalden zij weg. 14 Koning Nebukadnezar maakte tienduizend inwoners van Jeruzalem tot gijzelaar, met alle prinsen, de beste soldaten, timmerlieden en smeden. Zo bleven slechts de allerarmsten in het land achter. 15 Nebukadnezar nam koning Jojachin, zijn vrouwen en dienaren en de koningin-moeder mee naar Babel. 16 Tevens nam hij zevenduizend strijdbare mannen en duizend timmerlieden en smeden mee. Alle achtduizend waren sterk en geschikt om te vechten in oorlogstijd.
17 Als nieuwe koning voor het achtergebleven volk wees Nebukadnezar koning Jojachins oom Mattanja aan en hij veranderde diens naam in Zedekia. 18,19 Bij zijn troonsbestijging was Zedekia eenentwintig jaar. Zijn bewind in Jeruzalem duurde elf jaar. Zijn moeder heette Hamutal en was een dochter van Jeremia uit Libna. Hij voerde een goddeloos bewind, net als Jojakim. 20 Zo gebeurde het door de toorn van de Here dat de inwoners van Jeruzalem en het land Juda werden weggevoerd. Koning Zedekia kwam echter in opstand tegen de koning van Babel.

24 De son temps, Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, se mit en campagne. Jojakim lui fut assujetti pendant trois ans; mais il se révolta de nouveau contre lui.
2 Alors l'Éternel envoya contre Jojakim des troupes de Chaldéens, des troupes de Syriens, des troupes de Moabites et des troupes d'Ammonites; il les envoya contre Juda pour le détruire, selon la parole que l'Éternel avait prononcée par ses serviteurs les prophètes.
3 Cela arriva uniquement sur l'ordre de l'Éternel, qui voulait ôter Juda de devant sa face, à cause de tous les péchés commis par Manassé,
4 et à cause du sang innocent qu'avait répandu Manassé et dont il avait rempli Jérusalem. Aussi l'Éternel ne voulut-il point pardonner.
5 Le reste des actions de Jojakim, et tout ce qu'il a fait, cela n'est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
6 Jojakin se coucha avec ses pères. Et Jojakin, son fils, régna à sa place.
7 Le roi d'Égypte ne sortit plus de son pays, car le roi de Babylone avait pris tout ce qui était au roi d'Égypte depuis le torrent d'Égypte jusqu'au fleuve de l'Euphrate.
8 Jojakin avait dix-huit ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna trois mois à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Nehuschtha, fille d'Elnathan, de Jérusalem.
9 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, entièrement comme avait fait son père.
10 En ce temps-là, les serviteurs de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, montèrent contre Jérusalem, et la ville fut assiégée.
11 Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, arriva devant la ville pendant que ses serviteurs l'assiégeaient.
12 Alors Jojakin, roi de Juda, se rendit auprès du roi de Babylone, avec sa mère, ses serviteurs, ses chefs et ses eunuques. Et le roi de Babylone le fit prisonnier, la huitième année de son règne.
13 Il tira de là tous les trésors de la maison de l'Éternel et les trésors de la maison du roi; et il brisa tous les ustensiles d'or que Salomon, roi d'Israël, avait faits dans le temple de l'Éternel, comme l'Éternel l'avait prononcé.
14 Il emmena en captivité tout Jérusalem, tous les chefs et tous les hommes vaillants, au nombre de dix mille exilés, avec tous les charpentiers et les serruriers: il ne resta que le peuple pauvre du pays.
15 Il transporta Jojakin à Babylone; et il emmena captifs de Jérusalem à Babylone la mère du roi, les femmes du roi et ses eunuques, et les grands du pays,
16 tous les guerriers au nombre de sept mille, et les charpentiers et les serruriers au nombre de mille, tous hommes vaillants et propres à la guerre. Le roi de Babylone les emmena captifs à Babylone.
17 Et le roi de Babylone établit roi, à la place de Jojakin, Matthania, son oncle, dont il changea le nom en celui de Sédécias.
18 Sédécias avait vingt et un ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna onze ans à Jérusalem. Sa mère s'appelait Hamuthal, fille de Jérémie, de Libna.
19 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, entièrement comme avait fait Jojakim.
20 Et cela arriva à cause de la colère de l'Éternel contre Jérusalem et contre Juda, qu'il voulait rejeter de devant sa face. Et Sédécias se révolta contre le roi de Babylone.

24 During Jehoiakim’s reign, Nebuchadnezzar(A) king of Babylon invaded(B) the land, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. But then he turned against Nebuchadnezzar and rebelled.(C) 2 The Lord sent Babylonian,[a](D) Aramean,(E) Moabite and Ammonite raiders(F) against him to destroy(G) Judah, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by his servants the prophets.(H) 3 Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command,(I) in order to remove them from his presence(J) because of the sins of Manasseh(K) and all he had done, 4 including the shedding of innocent blood.(L) For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to forgive.(M)
5 As for the other events of Jehoiakim’s reign,(N) and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 6 Jehoiakim rested(O) with his ancestors. And Jehoiachin(P) his son succeeded him as king.
7 The king of Egypt(Q) did not march out from his own country again, because the king of Babylon(R) had taken all his territory, from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
Jehoiachin King of Judah(S)
8 Jehoiachin(T) was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother’s name was Nehushta(U) daughter of Elnathan; she was from Jerusalem. 9 He did evil(V) in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father had done.
10 At that time the officers of Nebuchadnezzar(W) king of Babylon advanced on Jerusalem and laid siege to it, 11 and Nebuchadnezzar himself came up to the city while his officers were besieging it. 12 Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his attendants, his nobles and his officials all surrendered(X) to him.
In the eighth year of the reign of the king of Babylon, he took Jehoiachin prisoner. 13 As the Lord had declared,(Y) Nebuchadnezzar removed the treasures(Z) from the temple of the Lord and from the royal palace, and cut up the gold articles(AA) that Solomon(AB) king of Israel had made for the temple of the Lord. 14 He carried all Jerusalem into exile:(AC) all the officers and fighting men,(AD) and all the skilled workers and artisans—a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest(AE) people of the land were left.
15 Nebuchadnezzar took Jehoiachin(AF) captive to Babylon. He also took from Jerusalem to Babylon the king’s mother,(AG) his wives, his officials and the prominent people(AH) of the land. 16 The king of Babylon also deported to Babylon the entire force of seven thousand fighting men, strong and fit for war, and a thousand skilled workers and artisans.(AI) 17 He made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.(AJ)

18 Zedekiah(AL) was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eleven years. His mother’s name was Hamutal(AM) daughter of Jeremiah; she was from Libnah. 19 He did evil(AN) in the eyes of the Lord, just as Jehoiakim had done. 20 It was because of the Lord’s anger that all this happened to Jerusalem and Judah, and in the end he thrust(AO) them from his presence.(AP)
