⁶ Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that ^(A)while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— ⁷ for ^(B)we walk by faith, not by ^[a]sight— ⁸ but we are of good courage and ^(C)prefer rather to be absent from the body and ^(D)to be at home with the Lord. ⁹ Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be ^(E)pleasing to Him. ¹⁰ For we must all appear before ^(F)the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive compensation for ^[b]his deeds done through the body, in accordance with what he has done, whether good or bad.

^13 (A)All these died in faith, ^(B)without receiving the promises, but ^(C)having seen and welcomed them from a distance, and ^(D)having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. ¹⁴ For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own. ¹⁵ And indeed if they had been ^[a]thinking of that country which they left, ^(E)they would have had opportunity to return. ¹⁶ But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a ^(F)heavenly one. Therefore ^(G)God is not ^[b]ashamed to be ^(H)called their God; for ^(I)He has prepared a city for them.

²⁴ By faith Moses, ^(A)when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, ²⁵ choosing rather to ^(B)endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin, ^26 (C)considering the ^[a]reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the ^(D)reward.

Do Not Love the World

¹⁵ Do not love ^(A)the world nor the things in the world. ^(B)If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, ^(C)the lust of the flesh and ^(D)the lust of the eyes and ^(E)the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. ^17 (F)The world is passing away and also its lusts; but the one who ^(G)does the will of God continues to live forever.
