3 Отрок Самуил служил Господу при Илии; слово Господне было редко в те дни, видения [были] не часты.
2 И было в то время, когда Илий лежал на своем месте, --глаза же его начали смежаться, и он не мог видеть, --
3 и светильник Божий еще не погас, и Самуил лежал в храме Господнем, где ковчег Божий;
4 воззвал Господь к Самуилу: И отвечал он: вот я!
5 И побежал к Илию и сказал: вот я! ты звал меня. Но тот сказал: я не звал тебя; пойди назад, ложись. И он пошел и лег.
6 Но Господь в другой раз воззвал к Самуилу: Он встал, и пришел к Илию вторично, и сказал: вот я! ты звал меня. Но тот сказал: я не звал тебя, сын мой; пойди назад, ложись.
7 Самуил еще не знал тогда [голоса] Господа, и еще не открывалось ему слово Господне.
8 И воззвал Господь к Самуилу еще в третий раз. Он встал и пришел к Илию и сказал: вот я! ты звал меня. Тогда понял Илий, что Господь зовет отрока.
9 И сказал Илий Самуилу: пойди назад и ложись, и когда [Зовущий] позовет тебя, ты скажи: говори, Господи, ибо слышит раб Твой. И пошел Самуил и лег на месте своем.
10 И пришел Господь, и стал, и воззвал, как в тот и другой раз: Самуил, Самуил! И сказал Самуил: говори, [Господи], ибо слышит раб Твой.
11 И сказал Господь Самуилу: вот, Я сделаю дело в Израиле, о котором кто услышит, у того зазвенит в обоих ушах;
12 в тот день Я исполню над Илием все то, что Я говорил о доме его; Я начну и окончу;
13 Я объявил ему, что Я накажу дом его на веки за ту вину, что он знал, как сыновья его нечествуют, и не обуздывал их;
14 и посему клянусь дому Илия, что вина дома Илиева не загладится ни жертвами, ни приношениями хлебными вовек.
15 И спал Самуил до утра, и отворил двери дома Господня; и боялся Самуил объявить видение сие Илию.
16 Но Илий позвал Самуила и сказал: сын мой Самуил! Тот сказал: вот я!
17 И сказал [Илий]: что сказано тебе? не скрой от меня; то и то сделает с тобою Бог, и еще больше сделает, если ты утаишь от меня что-либо из всего того, что сказано тебе.
18 И объявил ему Самуил все и не скрыл от него [ничего]. Тогда сказал [Илий]: Он--Господь; что Ему угодно, то да сотворит.
19 И возрос Самуил, и Господь был с ним; и не осталось ни одного из слов его неисполнившимся.
20 И узнал весь Израиль от Дана до Вирсавии, что Самуил удостоен быть пророком Господним.
21 И продолжал Господь являться в Силоме после того, как открыл Себя Самуилу в Силоме чрез слово Господне.

3 Мальчик Самуил служил перед Господом под руководством Илия. В те дни слово Господа было редким; не часты были и видения.
2 Как-то ночью Илий, чьи глаза ослабели настолько, что он едва мог видеть, лежал на своем обычном месте. 3 Светильник Бога еще не догорел, и Самуил лежал в храме Господа, где находился ковчег Бога. 4 Господь позвал Самуила, и Самуил ответил:
– Вот я.
5 Он подбежал к Илию, сказав:
– Вот я. Ты звал меня?
Но Илий сказал:
– Я не звал тебя, возвращайся и ложись.
Он пошел и лег.
6 Господь позвал его вновь:
– Самуил!
Самуил поднялся, пришел к Илию и сказал:
– Вот я. Ты звал меня?
– Мой сын, – сказал Илий, – я не звал тебя, возвращайся и ложись спать.
7 Самуил не знал еще Господа: слово Господа еще не открывалось ему. 8 Господь позвал Самуила в третий раз, и Самуил поднялся, пришел к Илию и сказал:
– Вот я. Ты звал меня?
Тогда Илий понял, что мальчика зовет Господь. 9 Илий сказал Самуилу:
– Иди и ложись, и если Он позовет тебя, скажи: «Говори, Господи, Твой слуга слушает Тебя».
Самуил пошел и лег на свое место. 10 Господь пришел и встал там, призывая, как в первый и во второй раз:
– Самуил! Самуил!
Тогда Самуил сказал:
– Говори, Твой слуга слушает Тебя.
11 И Господь сказал Самуилу:
– Я собираюсь совершить в Израиле такое, от чего у каждого, кто услышит об этом, зазвенит в ушах. 12 Тогда Я исполню над Илием все, что говорил о его семье, – от начала до конца. 13 Ведь Я говорил ему, что накажу его семью навеки из-за греха, о котором он знал; его сыновья сделались презренными[a], а он не обуздывал их. 14 Поэтому Я клянусь дому Илия: вина дома Илия никогда не будет заглажена жертвой или приношением.
15 Самуил лежал до утра, а затем открыл двери дома Господа. Он боялся передать Илию видение, 16 но Илий позвал его и сказал:
– Самуил, мой сын.
Самуил ответил:
– Вот я.
17 – Что Он сказал тебе? – спросил Илий. – Не скрывай от меня. Бог сурово накажет тебя[b], если ты скроешь от меня что-либо из того, что Он сказал тебе.
18 Самуил рассказал ему все, ничего не скрывая. Тогда Илий сказал:
– Он – Господь; пусть поступает, как Ему угодно.
19 Господь был с Самуилом, когда тот вырос, и не оставил несбывшимся ни одного из его слов. 20 Весь Израиль от Дана до Вирсавии признал, что Самуил – истинный пророк Господа. 21 Господь продолжал являться в Шило, и там Он открылся Самуилу через Свое слово.

The Lord Calls Samuel
3 The boy Samuel ministered(A) before the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare;(B) there were not many visions.(C)
2 One night Eli, whose eyes(D) were becoming so weak that he could barely see,(E) was lying down in his usual place. 3 The lamp(F) of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house(G) of the Lord, where the ark(H) of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel.
Samuel answered, “Here I am.(I)” 5 And he ran to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
But Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6 Again the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
“My son,” Eli said, “I did not call; go back and lie down.”
7 Now Samuel did not yet know(J) the Lord: The word(K) of the Lord had not yet been revealed(L) to him.
8 A third time the Lord called, “Samuel!” And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.”
Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!(M)”
Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”
11 And the Lord said to Samuel: “See, I am about to do something in Israel that will make the ears of everyone who hears about it tingle.(N) 12 At that time I will carry out against Eli everything(O) I spoke against his family—from beginning to end. 13 For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God,[a] and he failed to restrain(P) them. 14 Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned(Q) for by sacrifice or offering.’”
15 Samuel lay down until morning and then opened the doors of the house of the Lord. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision, 16 but Eli called him and said, “Samuel, my son.”
Samuel answered, “Here I am.”
17 “What was it he said to you?” Eli asked. “Do not hide(R) it from me. May God deal with you, be it ever so severely,(S) if you hide from me anything he told you.” 18 So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. Then Eli said, “He is the Lord; let him do what is good in his eyes.”(T)
19 The Lord was with(U) Samuel as he grew(V) up, and he let none(W) of Samuel’s words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba(X) recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord.(Y) 21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed(Z) himself to Samuel through his word.

3 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
21 And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
