El arca en manos de los filisteos
5 Los filisteos tomaron el arca de Dios y la llevaron de Eben-ezer(A) a Asdod(B). 2 Entonces tomaron los filisteos el arca de Dios y la introdujeron en el templo[a] de Dagón(C), y la pusieron junto a Dagón. 3 A la mañana siguiente, cuando los de Asdod se levantaron temprano, he aquí que Dagón había caído rostro en tierra delante del arca del Señor(D). Y tomaron a Dagón y lo pusieron otra vez en su lugar(E). 4 Pero al levantarse temprano al día siguiente, he aquí que Dagón había caído rostro en tierra delante del arca del Señor. Y la cabeza de Dagón y las dos palmas de sus manos estaban cortadas sobre el umbral; solo el tronco le quedaba a Dagón[b](F). 5 Por tanto, hasta hoy, ni los sacerdotes de Dagón ni ninguno de los que entran en el templo[c] de Dagón, pisan el umbral(G) de Dagón en Asdod.
6 Y la mano del Señor se hizo pesada sobre los de Asdod(H), y los desoló y los hirió con tumores(I), tanto a Asdod como a sus territorios. 7 Cuando los hombres de Asdod vieron lo que les sucedía[d], dijeron: El arca del Dios de Israel no debe quedar con nosotros, pues su mano es dura sobre nosotros y sobre Dagón nuestro dios. 8 Enviaron, pues, e hicieron venir[e] a ellos a todos los príncipes de los filisteos(J), y dijeron: ¿Qué haremos con el arca del Dios de Israel? Y ellos respondieron: Que se traslade el arca del Dios de Israel a Gat. Y trasladaron el arca del Dios de Israel. 9 Y sucedió que cuando la habían trasladado, la mano del Señor estuvo contra la ciudad causando gran confusión(K); e hirió a los hombres de la ciudad, desde el menor hasta el mayor, saliéndoles tumores(L). 10 Entonces enviaron el arca de Dios a Ecrón. Y sucedió que cuando el arca de Dios llegó a Ecrón, los ecronitas clamaron, diciendo: Han traído el arca del Dios de Israel hasta nosotros[f] para matarnos a nosotros[g] y a nuestro[h] pueblo. 11 Enviaron, pues, y reunieron a todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y dijeron: Sacad de aquí[i] el arca del Dios de Israel(M), y que vuelva a su sitio, para que no nos mate a nosotros[j] y a nuestro[k] pueblo. Porque había un pánico mortal por toda la ciudad; la mano de Dios se hizo muy pesada allí(N). 12 Y los hombres que no murieron fueron heridos con tumores, y el clamor de la ciudad subió hasta el cielo(O).

The Philistines and the Ark
5 Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it (A)from Ebenezer to Ashdod. 2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of (B)Dagon[a] and set it by Dagon. 3 And when the people of Ashdod arose early in the morning, there was Dagon, (C)fallen on its face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and (D)set it in its place again. 4 And when they arose early the next morning, there was Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the ark of the Lord. (E)The head of Dagon and both the palms of its hands were broken off on the threshold; only [b]Dagon’s torso was left of it. 5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon nor any who come into Dagon’s house (F)tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod to this day.
6 But the (G)hand of the Lord was heavy on the people of Ashdod, and He (H)ravaged them and struck them with (I)tumors,[c] both Ashdod and its (J)territory. 7 And when the men of Ashdod saw how it was, they said, “The ark of the (K)God of Israel must not remain with us, for His hand is harsh toward us and Dagon our god.” 8 Therefore they sent and gathered to themselves all the (L)lords of the Philistines, and said, “What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel?”
And they answered, “Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried away to (M)Gath.” So they carried the ark of the God of Israel away. 9 So it was, after they had carried it away, that (N)the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction; and He struck the men of the city, both small and great, [d]and tumors broke out on them.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. So it was, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, “They have brought the ark of the God of Israel to us, to kill us and our people!” 11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, “Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go back to its own place, so that it does not kill us and our people.” For there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there. 12 And the men who did not die were stricken with the tumors, and the (O)cry of the city went up to heaven.

5 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
6 But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
