Đa-vít Tị Nạn Nơi Đất Người Phi-li-tin
27 Đa-vít nghĩ thầm: “Một ngày nào đây, chắc chắn tôi sẽ phải chết bởi tay vua Sau-lơ. Không gì tốt hơn cho tôi là trốn sang đất người Phi-li-tin. Bấy giờ vua Sau-lơ sẽ mất hết hy vọng tìm bắt được tôi trong toàn lãnh thổ Y-sơ-ra-ên, và tôi sẽ thoát khỏi tay vua.”
2 Đa-vít liền cùng với 600 người theo mình vượt qua biên giới, đến với vua A-kích, con ông Ma-óc, tại thành Gát. 3 Đa-vít và những người theo chàng, mỗi người với gia đình mình, đều ở lại thành Gát với vua A-kích. Đa-vít cũng dẫn theo hai bà vợ, bà A-hi-nô-am, người Gít-rê-ên, và bà A-bi-ga-in, vợ góa của Na-banh, người Cạt-mên. 4 Khi vua Sau-lơ hay tin Đa-vít đã trốn sang thành Gát, vua không còn tìm bắt chàng nữa.
5 Đa-vít tâu với vua A-kích: “Nếu vua đẹp lòng, xin vua cho phép tôi cư ngụ trong một thành nào đó ở miền quê. Vì tôi tớ vua sao lại được ở trong hoàng thành với vua?” 6 Ngay hôm đó, vua A-kích cho Đa-vít thành Xiếc-lác; vì thế thành Xiếc-lác thuộc về các vua Giu-đa cho đến ngày nay.
7 Thời gian Đa-vít cư ngụ trong xứ người Phi-li-tin là một năm bốn tháng. 8 Đa-vít và những người theo chàng thường cướp phá các dân Ghê-sua, Ghiệt-xi và A-ma-léc là những dân tộc sống trong vùng từ Tê-la-im[a] trải dài đến sa mạc Su-rơ và tận biên giới Ai-cập. 9 Mỗi khi đánh phá vùng nào, Đa-vít không để cho ai sống sót, dù đàn ông hay đàn bà. Đa-vít lấy hết chiên dê, bò lừa, lạc đà và quần áo, rồi trở về và đến gặp vua A-kích.
10 Mỗi khi vua A-kích hỏi: “Hôm nay các ngươi cướp phá vùng nào?” Đa-vít thường đáp: “Vùng Nê-ghép xứ Giu-đa,” hoặc “vùng Nê-ghép của dân Giê-ra-mên,” hoặc “vùng Nê-ghép của dân Kê-nít”[b] 11 Đa-vít không chừa một người đàn ông hay đàn bà nào sống sót để đem về thành Gát, vì sợ họ tố cáo những việc Đa-vít và những người theo chàng đã làm. Đa-vít cứ hành động như vậy suốt thời gian ở trong xứ người Phi-li-tin. 12 Vua A-kích tin Đa-vít. Vua thầm nghĩ: “Nó đã tự làm cho dân Y-sơ-ra-ên của nó ghê tởm nó đến nỗi nó phải làm chư hầu cho ta suốt đời.”

Đa-vít sống với dân Phi-li-tin
27 Đa-vít nghĩ thầm, “Có ngày Sau-lơ sẽ bắt được ta. Cho nên tốt hơn ta nên thoát sang xứ Phi-li-tin. Như thế Sau-lơ sẽ không còn lùng kiếm ta trong Ít-ra-en nữa, nên ta có thể thoát khỏi tay người.”
2 Vậy Đa-vít cùng sáu trăm người theo mình rời Ít-ra-en đi xuống A-kích, con Ma-ốc, vua Gát. 3 Đa-vít, những người theo cùng gia đình họ cư ngụ ở Gát với A-kích. Đa-vít mang theo hai vợ mình là A-hi-nô-am ở Ghít-rê-ên, và A-bi-ga-in ở Cạt-mên, vợ góa của Na-banh, ở Cạt-mên. 4 Khi Sau-lơ nghe tin Đa-vít đã bỏ chạy xuống Gát thì thôi không lùng kiếm ông nữa.
5 Đa-vít bảo A-kích, “Nếu vua bằng lòng về tôi thì xin vua cấp cho tôi một nơi trong các thị trấn thôn quê để tôi sinh sống. Tôi đâu có cần ở trong đế đô với vua.”
6 Ngày đó A-kích cấp cho Đa-vít thị trấn Xiếc-lác, cho nên từ đó về sau Xiếc-lác thuộc về các vua Giu-đa.
7 Đa-vít sống trong xứ Phi-li-tin một năm bốn tháng.
8 Đa-vít và những người đi theo cướp phá dân Ghê-su-rơ, Ghiếc-xi, và A-ma-léc. Những dân nầy đã sống lâu đời trong vùng đất chạy dài đến Su-rơ và Ai-cập. 9 Khi Đa-vít đánh chúng thì ông giết tất cả đàn ông, đàn bà, lấy chiên, bò, lừa, lạc đà, và quần áo. Rồi ông trở về cùng A-kích.
10 A-kích hỏi ông, “Hôm nay ngươi đi cướp phá nơi nào?” Rồi Đa-vít kể lại là ông đi đến miền nam Giu-đa, hay Giê-ra-miên, hoặc đất người Kê-nít. [a] 11 Đa-vít không hề mang về Gát một người đàn ông hay đàn bà còn sống vì ông nghĩ, “Nếu ta mang người sống về, chúng nó sẽ bảo, ‘Đa-vít làm như thế nầy đây.’”
Trong suốt thời gian sống ở xứ Phi-li-tin, Đa-vít thường làm như thế. 12 Cho nên A-kích tin Đa-vít và nghĩ bụng, “Chính nó tự làm cho mình trở thành ghê tởm đối với dân Ít-ra-en của nó, cho nên nó sẽ làm đầy tớ ta mãi mãi.”

27 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.
2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.
4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.
5 And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?
6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.
7 And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
8 And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.
9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.
10 And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.
12 And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

27 But David thought to himself, “One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.”
2 So David and the six hundred men(A) with him left and went(B) over to Achish(C) son of Maok king of Gath. 3 David and his men settled in Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives:(D) Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail of Carmel, the widow of Nabal. 4 When Saul was told that David had fled to Gath, he no longer searched for him.
5 Then David said to Achish, “If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be assigned to me in one of the country towns, that I may live there. Why should your servant live in the royal city with you?”
6 So on that day Achish gave him Ziklag,(E) and it has belonged to the kings of Judah ever since. 7 David lived(F) in Philistine territory a year and four months.
8 Now David and his men went up and raided the Geshurites,(G) the Girzites and the Amalekites.(H) (From ancient times these peoples had lived in the land extending to Shur(I) and Egypt.) 9 Whenever David attacked an area, he did not leave a man or woman alive,(J) but took sheep and cattle, donkeys and camels, and clothes. Then he returned to Achish.
10 When Achish asked, “Where did you go raiding today?” David would say, “Against the Negev of Judah” or “Against the Negev of Jerahmeel(K)” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.(L)” 11 He did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought, “They might inform on us and say, ‘This is what David did.’” And such was his practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory. 12 Achish trusted David and said to himself, “He has become so obnoxious(M) to his people, the Israelites, that he will be my servant for life.(N)”
