6 (A) Levis söner var Gershon, Kehat och Merari.

2     Kehats söner var Amram, Jishar, Hebron och Ussiel.
3     (B) Amrams barn var Aron, Mose och Mirjam.
    Arons söner var Nadab och Abihu, Eleasar och Itamar.
4     Eleasar blev far till Pinehas, Pinehas till Abishua.
5     Abishua blev far till Bucki och Bucki till Ussi.
6     Ussi blev far till Seraja och Seraja till Merajot.
7     Merajot blev far till Amarja och Amarja till Ahitub.
8     (C) Ahitub blev far till Sadok och Sadok till Ahimaas.
9     Ahimaas blev far till Asarja och Asarja till Johanan.

10 (D) Johanan blev far till Asarja, han som var präst i templet som Salomo byggde i Jerusalem.

11     Asarja blev far till Amarja och Amarja till Ahitub.
12     Ahitub blev far till Sadok och Sadok till Shallum.
13     (E) Shallum blev far till Hilkia och Hilkia till Asarja.
14     Asarja blev far till Seraja

och Seraja till Josadak. 15 (F) Josadak gick med i fångenskap när Herren förde bort Juda och Jerusalem genom Nebukadnessar.

16 (G) Levis söner var Gershon,[a] Kehat och Merari.

17 (H) Dessa var namnen på Gershons söner: Libni och Shimei.

18 Kehats söner var Amram, Jishar, Hebron och Ussiel.

19 (I) Meraris söner var Mahli och Mushi. Dessa var leviternas släkter efter deras fäder.

20 Från Gershon härstammade hans son Libni, dennes son Jahat, dennes son Simma, 21 dennes son Joa, dennes son Iddo, dennes son Sera, dennes son Jeateraj.

22 (J) Kehats söner var hans son Amminadab,[b] dennes son Kora, dennes son Assir, 23 dennes son Elkana, dennes son Ebjasaf, dennes son Assir, 24 dennes son Tahat, dennes son Uriel, dennes son Ussia och dennes son Saul.

25 Elkanas söner var Amasaj och Ahimot. 26 Hans son var Elkana, dennes son Sofaj, dennes son Nahat, 27 (K) dennes son Eliab, dennes son Jeroham, dennes son Elkana.

28 (L) Samuels söner var Joel,[c] den förstfödde, och Abia, den andre.

29 Meraris söner var Mahli, dennes son Libni, dennes son Shimei, dennes son Ussa, 30 dennes son Shimea, dennes son Haggia, dennes son Asaja.

Tempelsångarna

31 Detta var de män som David utsåg att ansvara för sången i Herrens hus, sedan arken hade fått en viloplats. 32 De gjorde tjänst inför uppenbarelsetältets tabernakel som sångare till dess att Salomo byggde Herrens hus i Jerusalem. De stod och förrättade sin tjänst, som det var föreskrivet för dem. 33 Dessa var de män som tjänstgjorde och deras söner:

Heman,[d] sångaren,

son till Joel, son till Samuel,

34 son till Elkana, son till Jeroham,

son till Eliel, son till Toa,

35 son till Sif, son till Elkana,

son till Mahat, son till Amasaj,

36 son till Elkana, son till Joel,

son till Asarja, son till Sefanja,

37 son till Tahat, son till Assir,

son till Ebjasaf, son till Kora,

38 son till Jishar, son till Kehat,

son till Levi, son till Israel.

39 (M) Dessutom hans bror Asaf, som hade sin plats på hans högra sida:

Asaf, son till Berekja,

son till Shimea, 40 son till Mikael,

son till Baaseja, son till Malkia,

41 son till Etni, son till Sera,

son till Adaja, 42 son till Etan,

son till Simma, son till Shimei,

43 son till Jahat, son till Gershon,

44 (N) Deras bröder, Meraris barn, stod på den vänstra sidan:

48 (O) Deras bröder, de övriga leviterna, hade avdelats till allt slags tjänstgöring vid tabernaklet, Guds hus.

Arons ättlingar

49 (P) Aron och hans söner förrättade offer på brännofferaltaret och på rökelsealtaret och utförde allt arbete i det allra heligaste och bringade försoning för Israel, precis som Guds tjänare Mose hade befallt.

50 Dessa var Arons söner:

    hans son Eleasar, dennes son Pinehas,
dennes son Abishua, 51     dennes son Bucki,
    dennes son Ussi, dennes son Seraja,
52     dennes son Merajot, dennes son Amarja,
dennes son Ahitub, 53     dennes son Sadok,

dennes son Ahimaas.

Leviternas boningsorter

54 (Q) Dessa var deras boningsorter, efter deras tältläger inom deras område: Åt Arons söner av kehatiternas släkt – eftersom lotten föll på dem – 55 (R) gav man Hebron i Juda land med dess betesmarker runt omkring. 56 Men åkerjorden och byarna som hörde till staden gav man till Kaleb, Jefunnes son.

57 (S) Åt Arons söner gav man alltså fristäderna Hebron och Libna med betesmarker, dessutom Jattir och Eshtemoa med betesmarker, 58 Hilen med betesmarker, Debir med betesmarker, 59 Asan med betesmarker och Bet-Shemesh med betesmarker, 60 och ur Benjamins stam Geba med betesmarker, Alemet med betesmarker och Anatot med betesmarker, så att deras städer tillsammans utgjorde tretton städer[e] efter deras släkter. 61 (T) Kehats övriga barn fick ur en stamsläkt, nämligen den stamhalva som utgjorde ena hälften av Manasse stam, tio städer genom lottkastning.

62 Men Gershons barn fick efter sina släkter ur Isaskars stam, ur Ashers stam, ur Naftali stam och ur Manasse stam i Bashan tretton städer. 63 Meraris barn fick efter sina släkter ur Rubens stam, ur Gads stam och ur Sebulons stam genom lottkastning tolv städer. 64 Så gav Israels barn åt leviterna dessa städer med betesmarker. 65 Genom lottkastning gav de åt dem ur Juda barns stam, ur Simeons barns stam och ur Benjamins barns stam dessa städer, som de gav namn.

66 (U) Några bland Kehats barns släkter fick följande städer ur Efraims stam som sitt område:

67     Man gav dem fristäderna
    Shekem med betesmarker i Efraims bergsbygd,
    Gezer med betesmarker,
68     Jokmeam med betesmarker,
    Bet-Horon med betesmarker,
69     dessutom Ajalon med betesmarker
    och Gat-Rimmon med betesmarker,
70     och ur ena hälften av Manasse stam
    Aner med betesmarker
    och Bilam med betesmarker.

Detta tillföll Kehats övriga barns släkt.

71 (V) Gershons barn fick ur den släkt som utgjorde ena hälften av Manasse stam

    Golan i Bashan med betesmarker
    och Ashtarot med betesmarker,
72     och ur Isaskars stam
    Kedesh med betesmarker,
    Dobrat med betesmarker,
73     Ramot med betesmarker
    och Anem med betesmarker,
74     och ur Ashers stam
    Mashal med betesmarker,
    Abdon med betesmarker,
75     Hukok med betesmarker
    och Rehob med betesmarker,
76     och ur Naftali stam
    Kedesh i Galileen med betesmarker,
    Hammon med betesmarker
    och Kirjatajim med betesmarker.

77 (W) Meraris övriga barn fick ur Sebulons stam

    Rimmono med betesmarker
    och Tabor med betesmarker,

78 och på andra sidan Jordan mitt emot Jeriko, öster om Jordan, ur Rubens stam

    Beser i öknen med betesmarker,
    Jahas med betesmarker,
79     Kedemot med betesmarker
    och Mefaat med betesmarker,
80     och ur Gads stam
    Ramot i Gilead med betesmarker,
    Mahanajim med betesmarker,
81     Heshbon med betesmarker
    och Jaser med betesmarker.

Nadab, Abihu,(D) Eleazar(E) and Ithamar.(F)

4 Eleazar was the father of Phinehas,(G)

Phinehas the father of Abishua,

5 Abishua the father of Bukki,

Bukki the father of Uzzi,

6 Uzzi the father of Zerahiah,

Zerahiah the father of Meraioth,

7 Meraioth the father of Amariah,

Amariah the father of Ahitub,

The Temple Musicians(X)

31 These are the men(Y) David put in charge of the music(Z) in the house of the Lord after the ark came to rest there. 32 They ministered with music before the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, until Solomon built the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. They performed their duties according to the regulations laid down for them.

33 Here are the men who served, together with their sons:

From the Kohathites:

Heman,(AA) the musician,

the son of Joel,(AB) the son of Samuel,

34 the son of Elkanah,(AC) the son of Jeroham,

the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,

35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah,

the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,

36 the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel,

the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,

37 the son of Tahath, the son of Assir,

the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,(AD)

38 the son of Izhar,(AE) the son of Kohath,

the son of Levi, the son of Israel;

39 and Heman’s associate Asaph,(AF) who served at his right hand:

Asaph son of Berekiah, the son of Shimea,(AG)

40 the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah,[g]

the son of Malkijah, 41 the son of Ethni,

the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,

42 the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah,

the son of Shimei, 43 the son of Jahath,

the son of Gershon, the son of Levi;

44 and from their associates, the Merarites,(AH) at his left hand:

Ethan son of Kishi, the son of Abdi,

the son of Malluk, 45 the son of Hashabiah,

the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,

46 the son of Amzi, the son of Bani,

the son of Shemer, 47 the son of Mahli,

the son of Mushi, the son of Merari,

the son of Levi.

48 Their fellow Levites(AI) were assigned to all the other duties of the tabernacle, the house of God. 49 But Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar(AJ) of burnt offering and on the altar of incense(AK) in connection with all that was done in the Most Holy Place, making atonement for Israel, in accordance with all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

50 These were the descendants of Aaron:

Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son,

Abishua his son, 51 Bukki his son,

Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,

52 Meraioth his son, Amariah his son,

Ahitub his son, 53 Zadok(AL) his son

and Ahimaaz his son.

54 These were the locations of their settlements(AM) allotted as their territory (they were assigned to the descendants of Aaron who were from the Kohathite clan, because the first lot was for them):

55 They were given Hebron in Judah with its surrounding pasturelands. 56 But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.(AN)

57 So the descendants of Aaron were given Hebron (a city of refuge), and Libnah,[h](AO) Jattir,(AP) Eshtemoa, 58 Hilen, Debir,(AQ) 59 Ashan,(AR) Juttah[i] and Beth Shemesh, together with their pasturelands. 60 And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon,[j] Geba, Alemeth and Anathoth,(AS) together with their pasturelands.

The total number of towns distributed among the Kohathite clans came to thirteen.

61 The rest of Kohath’s descendants were allotted ten towns from the clans of half the tribe of Manasseh.

62 The descendants of Gershon, clan by clan, were allotted thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher and Naphtali, and from the part of the tribe of Manasseh that is in Bashan.

63 The descendants of Merari, clan by clan, were allotted twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.

64 So the Israelites gave the Levites these towns(AT) and their pasturelands. 65 From the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin they allotted the previously named towns.

66 Some of the Kohathite clans were given as their territory towns from the tribe of Ephraim.

67 In the hill country of Ephraim they were given Shechem (a city of refuge), and Gezer,[k](AU) 68 Jokmeam,(AV) Beth Horon,(AW) 69 Aijalon(AX) and Gath Rimmon,(AY) together with their pasturelands.

70 And from half the tribe of Manasseh the Israelites gave Aner and Bileam, together with their pasturelands, to the rest of the Kohathite clans.

71 The Gershonites(AZ) received the following:

From the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh

they received Golan in Bashan(BA) and also Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands;

72 from the tribe of Issachar

they received Kedesh, Daberath,(BB) 73 Ramoth and Anem, together with their pasturelands;

74 from the tribe of Asher

they received Mashal, Abdon,(BC) 75 Hukok(BD) and Rehob,(BE) together with their pasturelands;

76 and from the tribe of Naphtali

they received Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon(BF) and Kiriathaim,(BG) together with their pasturelands.

77 The Merarites (the rest of the Levites) received the following:

From the tribe of Zebulun

they received Jokneam, Kartah,[l] Rimmono and Tabor, together with their pasturelands;

78 from the tribe of Reuben across the Jordan east of Jericho

they received Bezer(BH) in the wilderness, Jahzah, 79 Kedemoth(BI) and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands;

80 and from the tribe of Gad

they received Ramoth in Gilead,(BJ) Mahanaim,(BK) 81 Heshbon and Jazer,(BL) together with their pasturelands.(BM)
