Jerobeam door God gestraft
14 Jerobeams zoon Abia werd op een gegeven moment erg ziek. 2 Jerobeam droeg zijn vrouw op: ‘Vermom je, zodat niemand je herkent als de koningin en ga naar de profeet Ahia in Silo. Dat is de man die mij vertelde dat ik koning zou worden. 3 Neem een geschenk van tien broden, rozijnenkoeken en een pot honing voor hem mee en vraag hem of de jongen weer beter zal worden.’ 4 Zijn vrouw ging naar het huis van Ahia in Silo. Ahia was al een oude man en zo goed als blind. 5 De Here had hem verteld dat de koningin incognito bij hem zou komen om te vragen wat met haar zieke zoon ging gebeuren. De Here vertelde hem ook wat hij haar moest antwoorden. 6 Toen Ahia haar bij de deur van zijn huis hoorde, riep hij: ‘Komt u maar binnen, vrouw van Jerobeam. Waarom hebt u zich vermomd?’ En hij vervolgde: ‘Ik heb droevig nieuws voor u. 7 Geef uw man deze boodschap door van de Here, de God van Israël: “Ik bevorderde u vanuit de rangen van het gewone volk en maakte u koning over Israël. 8 Ik rukte het koninkrijk uit de handen van Davids familie en gaf het aan u, maar u hebt mijn geboden niet gehoorzaamd, zoals mijn dienaar David dat wel deed. Hij verlangde er altijd naar Mij te gehoorzamen en precies te doen wat Ik van hem verlangde. 9 Maar u hebt meer zonden begaan dan alle koningen vóór u. U hebt andere goden gemaakt en mijn toorn opgewekt met die gouden kalveren van u. En omdat u Mij zo duidelijk hebt genegeerd, 10 zal Ik een ramp over uw familie brengen en al uw zonen vernietigen, zowel getrouwden als vrijgezellen. Ik zal uw familie wegvagen, zoals een staljongen de mest de stal uitveegt. 11 Ik zweer dat uw familieleden die in de stad sterven, door de honden zullen worden opgegeten en dat zij die buiten in het veld sterven, de prooi van de vogels zullen worden.” ’ 12 Daarna zei Ahia tegen Jerobeams vrouw: ‘Ga nu maar naar huis. Wanneer u de stad binnenkomt, zal het kind sterven. 13 Heel Israël zal om hem rouwen en hem begraven, maar hij is het enige lid van uw familie dat een normale begrafenis zal krijgen. Dit kind is namelijk het enige goede dat de Here, de God van Israël, in de hele familie van Jerobeam ziet. 14 En de Here zal zorgen voor een koning over Israël die de hele familie van Jerobeam zal uitroeien. Ja, wat zeg ik, de Here heeft er al voor gezorgd. 15 Dan zal de Here Israël door elkaar schudden als een rietstengel in het water. Hij zal de Israëlieten wegrukken uit dit goede land van hun vaderen en hen verbannen naar de overkant van de Eufraat, want zij hebben de toorn van de Here opgewekt door afgoden te aanbidden. 16 Hij zal Israël aan andere volken uitleveren, omdat Jerobeam zondigde en heel Israël daarin met zich meesleepte.’
17 Zo ging Jerobeams vrouw terug naar Tirza en het kind stierf op het moment dat zij haar huis binnenkwam. 18 Het kind werd begraven en overal in het land werd om hem gerouwd, precies zoals de Here had gezegd.
19 De rest van Jerobeams activiteiten—zijn oorlogen en zijn andere regeringsdaden—staan beschreven in de Kronieken van de koningen van Israël. 20 Jerobeam regeerde tweeëntwintig jaar en na zijn dood volgde zijn zoon Nadab hem op als koning.
21 Ondertussen regeerde Salomoʼs zoon Rehabeam als koning in Juda. Hij was eenenveertig jaar toen hij koning werd en regeerde zeventien jaar in Jeruzalem, de stad die de Here boven alle andere Israëlitische steden had uitgekozen voor de aanbidding van zijn naam. Rehabeams moeder heette Naäma en was een Ammonitische. 22 Gedurende zijn regering deden de inwoners van Juda, evenals de Israëlieten, veel slechts en wekten de toorn van de Here op door hun zonden. Zij waren nog erger dan hun voorouders. 23 Ook zij bouwden tempels, gewijde stenen en afgodsbeelden op elke hoge heuveltop en onder elke groene boom. 24 Er kwam zelfs door het hele land verspreid tempelprostitutie voor en de inwoners van Juda bedreven dezelfde gruwelijke zonden als de heidense volken die de Here vroeger het land had uitgejaagd om plaats te maken voor zijn volk.
25 In het vijfde regeringsjaar van Rehabeam viel koning Sisak van Egypte Jeruzalem aan en veroverde de stad. 26 Hij plunderde de tempel en het paleis en nam alles weg, waaronder de gouden schilden die Salomo had laten maken. 27 Rehabeam maakte naderhand koperen schilden als vervanging van de gestolen gouden schilden en gaf die aan de paleiswachten om te gebruiken bij de bewaking van het paleis. 28 Elke keer als de koning naar de tempel ging, marcheerden de wachters met hun schilden voor hem uit en brachten ze daarna terug naar de kamer van de wacht.
29 De andere gebeurtenissen die tijdens de regering van Rehabeam plaats hadden, staan beschreven in de Kronieken van de koningen van Juda. 30 Er heerste voortdurend oorlog tussen Rehabeam en Jerobeam. 31 Toen Rehabeam stierf, werd hij bij zijn voorouders in Jeruzalem begraven. Zijn zoon Abiam volgde hem op.

Profecía de Ahías contra Jeroboam
14 Por aquel tiempo Abías, hijo de Jeroboam, se enfermó. 2 Y Jeroboam dijo a su mujer: «Levántate ahora y disfrázate(A) para que no conozcan que eres la mujer de Jeroboam, y ve a Silo(B), pues allí está el profeta Ahías, que dijo de mí que yo sería rey sobre este pueblo(C). 3 Toma en tus manos diez panes(D), tortas y un jarro de miel, y ve a él. Él te dirá lo que le ha de suceder al niño». 4 Así lo hizo la mujer de Jeroboam; se levantó, fue a Silo(E) y llegó a casa de Ahías(F). Y Ahías no podía ver porque sus ojos se habían nublado[a] a causa de su vejez(G). 5 Pero el Señor había dicho a Ahías: «La mujer de Jeroboam viene a consultarte sobre su hijo, pues está enfermo. Esto y esto le dirás, pues será que cuando ella venga, fingirá ser otra mujer(H)».
6 Cuando Ahías oyó el ruido de los pasos de ella al entrar por la puerta, dijo: «Entra, mujer de Jeroboam. ¿Por qué finges ser otra mujer? Pues he sido enviado a ti con un duro mensaje. 7 Ve, dile a Jeroboam: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Yo te levanté de entre el pueblo y te hice príncipe sobre Mi pueblo Israel(I). 8 Arranqué el reino de la casa de David y te lo di a ti(J), pero tú no has sido como Mi siervo David, que guardó Mis mandamientos y me siguió de todo corazón, para hacer solo lo que era recto a Mis ojos(K); 9 sino que has hecho más mal que todos los que fueron antes de ti, y fuiste e hiciste para ti otros dioses(L) e imágenes fundidas(M) para provocarme a ira, y me arrojaste detrás de tus espaldas(N); 10 por tanto, voy a traer mal sobre la casa de Jeroboam, y cortaré de Jeroboam a todo varón, tanto esclavo como libre en Israel(O). Barreré completamente la casa de Jeroboam(P), como se barre el estiércol hasta que desaparece del todo. 11 Cualquiera de los de Jeroboam que muera en la ciudad, se lo comerán los perros. Y el que muera en el campo, se lo comerán las aves del cielo(Q); porque el Señor ha hablado’”. 12 Y tú, levántate, vete a tu casa. Cuando tus pies entren en la ciudad, el niño morirá(R). 13 Y todo Israel hará duelo por él y lo sepultarán, pues solo este de la familia de Jeroboam irá a la sepultura, porque de la casa de Jeroboam, solo en él fue hallado algo bueno hacia el Señor, Dios(S) de Israel.
14 »Y el Señor levantará para sí un rey sobre Israel que destruirá la casa de Jeroboam(T) en este día, y de ahora en adelante[b]. 15 El Señor, pues, herirá a Israel, como se agita una caña en el agua, y Él arrancará a Israel(U) de esta buena tierra(V) que dio a sus padres(W), y los esparcirá más allá del río Éufrates, porque han hecho sus Aseras[c], provocando a ira al Señor(X). 16 Él abandonará a Israel a causa de los pecados que cometió Jeroboam y con los cuales hizo pecar a Israel(Y)».
17 Entonces la mujer de Jeroboam se levantó, se fue y llegó a Tirsa(Z). Y al entrar ella por el umbral de la casa, el niño murió(AA). 18 Y todo Israel lo sepultó e hizo duelo por él(AB), conforme a la palabra que el Señor había hablado por medio de Su siervo, el profeta Ahías.
19 Los demás hechos de Jeroboam(AC), cómo peleó en las guerras y cómo reinó, están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel. 20 El tiempo que Jeroboam reinó fue de veintidós años, y durmió con sus padres; y su hijo Nadab reinó en su lugar.
Reinado de Roboam
21 (AD)Roboam, hijo de Salomón, reinó en Judá. Roboam tenía cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que el Señor había escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner allí Su nombre. El nombre de su madre era Naama, una amonita(AE).
22 Judá hizo lo malo(AF) ante los ojos del Señor, y lo provocaron a celos(AG) más que todo lo que sus padres lo habían provocado con los pecados que habían hecho. 23 Porque ellos también edificaron para sí lugares altos(AH), pilares(AI) sagrados y Aseras(AJ) en toda colina alta y bajo todo árbol frondoso(AK). 24 Hubo también en la tierra sodomitas de cultos paganos(AL). Hicieron conforme a todas las abominaciones de las naciones que el Señor había echado delante de los israelitas.
25 Y sucedió que en el quinto año del rey Roboam, Sisac, rey de Egipto, subió contra Jerusalén(AM). 26 Tomó los tesoros de la casa del Señor y los tesoros del palacio del rey. Se apoderó de todo, llevándose aun todos los escudos de oro que había hecho Salomón(AN). 27 Entonces el rey Roboam hizo escudos de bronce en su lugar, y los entregó al cuidado de los jefes de la guardia[d](AO) que custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey. 28 Cuando el rey entraba en la casa del Señor, los de la guardia llevaban los escudos; y después los devolvían a la sala de los de la guardia.
29 Los demás hechos de Roboam y todo lo que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas(AP) de los reyes de Judá? 30 Hubo guerra continua entre Roboam y Jeroboam(AQ). 31 Y durmió Roboam con sus padres y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de David; y el nombre de su madre era Naama, una amonita(AR). Y su hijo Abiam[e] reinó en su lugar.

Ahijah’s Prophecy Against Jeroboam
14 At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill, 2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, “Go, disguise yourself, so you won’t be recognized as the wife of Jeroboam. Then go to Shiloh. Ahijah(A) the prophet is there—the one who told me I would be king over this people. 3 Take ten loaves of bread(B) with you, some cakes and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.” 4 So Jeroboam’s wife did what he said and went to Ahijah’s house in Shiloh.
Now Ahijah could not see; his sight was gone because of his age. 5 But the Lord had told Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill, and you are to give her such and such an answer. When she arrives, she will pretend to be someone else.”
6 So when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why this pretense?(C) I have been sent to you with bad news. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:(D) ‘I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler(E) over my people Israel. 8 I tore(F) the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right(G) in my eyes. 9 You have done more evil(H) than all who lived before you.(I) You have made for yourself other gods, idols(J) made of metal; you have aroused(K) my anger and turned your back on me.(L)
10 “‘Because of this, I am going to bring disaster(M) on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free.[a](N) I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone.(O) 11 Dogs(P) will eat those belonging to Jeroboam who die in the city, and the birds(Q) will feed on those who die in the country. The Lord has spoken!’
12 “As for you, go back home. When you set foot in your city, the boy will die. 13 All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. He is the only one belonging to Jeroboam who will be buried, because he is the only one in the house of Jeroboam in whom the Lord, the God of Israel, has found anything good.(R)
14 “The Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who will cut off the family of Jeroboam. Even now this is beginning to happen.[b] 15 And the Lord will strike Israel, so that it will be like a reed swaying in the water. He will uproot(S) Israel from this good land that he gave to their ancestors and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they aroused(T) the Lord’s anger by making Asherah(U) poles.[c] 16 And he will give Israel up because of the sins(V) Jeroboam has committed and has caused Israel to commit.”
17 Then Jeroboam’s wife got up and left and went to Tirzah.(W) As soon as she stepped over the threshold of the house, the boy died. 18 They buried him, and all Israel mourned for him, as the Lord had said through his servant the prophet Ahijah.
19 The other events of Jeroboam’s reign, his wars and how he ruled, are written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel. 20 He reigned for twenty-two years and then rested with his ancestors. And Nadab his son succeeded him as king.
Rehoboam King of Judah(X)
21 Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.(Y)
22 Judah(Z) did evil in the eyes of the Lord. By the sins they committed they stirred up his jealous anger(AA) more than those who were before them had done. 23 They also set up for themselves high places, sacred stones(AB) and Asherah poles(AC) on every high hill and under every spreading tree.(AD) 24 There were even male shrine prostitutes(AE) in the land; the people engaged in all the detestable(AF) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.
25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt attacked(AG) Jerusalem. 26 He carried off the treasures of the temple(AH) of the Lord and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including all the gold shields(AI) Solomon had made. 27 So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace.(AJ) 28 Whenever the king went to the Lord’s temple, the guards bore the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom.
29 As for the other events of Rehoboam’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? 30 There was continual warfare(AK) between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. 31 And Rehoboam rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.(AL) And Abijah[d] his son succeeded him as king.
