6 Zijn vader had hem zijn hele leven nog nooit ergens voor bestraft. Hij zag er erg knap uit en was na Absalom geboren, dus Davids vierde zoon. 7 Hij haalde legeraanvoerder Joab (de zoon van Zeruja) en de priester Abjatar over om zijn kant te kiezen. 8 Maar de priester Zadok, Benaja[a] (de zoon van Jojada), de profeet Natan, Simeï, Reï en Davids helden stonden niet aan de kant van Adonia.

6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

6 (His father had never rebuked(A) him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.)
7 Adonijah conferred with Joab(B) son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar(C) the priest, and they gave him their support. 8 But Zadok(D) the priest, Benaiah(E) son of Jehoiada, Nathan(F) the prophet, Shimei(G) and Rei and David’s special guard(H) did not join Adonijah.
