La fe que vence al mundo

5 Todo aquel que cree que Jesús es el Cristo[a](A), es nacido[b](B) de Dios; y todo aquel que ama al Padre[c], ama al que ha nacido[d] de Él(C). 2 En esto sabemos(D) que amamos a los hijos de Dios(E): cuando amamos a Dios y guardamos[e] sus mandamientos. 3 Porque este es el amor de Dios(F): que guardemos sus mandamientos(G), y sus mandamientos no son gravosos(H). 4 Porque todo lo que es nacido[f] de Dios(I) vence al mundo(J); y esta es la victoria que ha vencido al mundo: nuestra fe. 5 ¿Y quién es el que vence al mundo, sino el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios(K)?

El testimonio acerca del Hijo

6 Este es el que vino mediante agua y sangre(L), Jesucristo; no solo con[g] agua, sino con[h] agua y con[i] sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio(M), porque el Espíritu es la verdad. 7 Porque tres son los que dan testimonio(N) en el cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo, y estos tres son uno. Y tres son los que dan testimonio en la tierra[j]: 8 el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre, y los tres concuerdan[k]. 9 Si recibimos el testimonio de los hombres(O), mayor es el testimonio de Dios; porque este es el testimonio de Dios: que Él ha dado testimonio acerca de su Hijo(P). 10 El que cree en el Hijo de Dios tiene el testimonio en sí mismo(Q); el que no cree a Dios, ha hecho a Dios[l] mentiroso(R), porque no ha creído en el testimonio que Dios ha dado respecto a su Hijo. 11 Y el testimonio es este: que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna(S), y esta vida está en su Hijo(T). 12 El que tiene al Hijo tiene la vida(U), y el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la vida.

El conocimiento de la vida eterna

13 Estas cosas(V) os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en el nombre del Hijo de Dios(W), para que sepáis que tenéis vida eterna(X). 14 Y esta es la confianza que tenemos delante de[m] Él(Y), que si pedimos cualquier cosa conforme a su voluntad, Él nos oye(Z). 15 Y si sabemos que Él nos oye en cualquier cosa que pidamos, sabemos que tenemos las peticiones que le hemos hecho(AA). 16 Si alguno ve a su hermano cometiendo un pecado[n] que no lleva a la muerte, pedirá, y por él Dios dará vida(AB) a los que cometen pecado que no lleva a la muerte[o]. Hay un pecado que lleva a la muerte[p](AC); yo no digo que deba pedir por ese(AD). 17 Toda injusticia es pecado(AE), y hay pecado que no lleva a la muerte[q](AF).

Declaraciones finales

18 Sabemos(AG) que todo el que ha nacido de Dios, no peca(AH); sino que aquel que nació[r] de Dios lo guarda(AI) y el maligno(AJ) no lo toca(AK). 19 Sabemos(AL) que somos de Dios(AM), y que todo el mundo yace bajo el poder del maligno[s](AN). 20 Y sabemos(AO) que el Hijo de Dios ha venido(AP) y nos ha dado entendimiento(AQ) a fin de que conozcamos al que es verdadero(AR); y nosotros estamos en aquel que es verdadero(AS), en su Hijo Jesucristo. Este es el verdadero Dios(AT) y la vida eterna(AU). 21 Hijos[t](AV), guardaos de los ídolos(AW).

The Message

5 1-3 Every person who believes that Jesus is, in fact, the Messiah, is God-born. If we love the One who conceives the child, we’ll surely love the child who was conceived. The reality test on whether or not we love God’s children is this: Do we love God? Do we keep his commands? The proof that we love God comes when we keep his commandments and they are not at all troublesome.

The Power That Brings the World to Its Knees

4-5 Every God-born person conquers the world’s ways. The conquering power that brings the world to its knees is our faith. The person who wins out over the world’s ways is simply the one who believes Jesus is the Son of God.

6-8 Jesus—the Divine Christ! He experienced a life-giving birth and a death-killing death. Not only birth from the womb, but baptismal birth of his ministry and sacrificial death. And all the while the Spirit is confirming the truth, the reality of God’s presence at Jesus’ baptism and crucifixion, bringing those occasions alive for us. A triple testimony: the Spirit, the Baptism, the Crucifixion. And the three in perfect agreement.

9-10 If we take human testimony at face value, how much more should we be reassured when God gives testimony as he does here, testifying concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God inwardly confirms God’s testimony. Whoever refuses to believe in effect calls God a liar, refusing to believe God’s own testimony regarding his Son.

11-12 This is the testimony in essence: God gave us eternal life; the life is in his Son. So, whoever has the Son, has life; whoever rejects the Son, rejects life.

The Reality, Not the Illusion

13-15 My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion. And how bold and free we then become in his presence, freely asking according to his will, sure that he’s listening. And if we’re confident that he’s listening, we know that what we’ve asked for is as good as ours.

16-17 For instance, if we see a Christian believer sinning (clearly I’m not talking about those who make a practice of sin in a way that is “fatal,” leading to eternal death), we ask for God’s help and he gladly gives it, gives life to the sinner whose sin is not fatal. There is such a thing as a fatal sin, and I’m not urging you to pray about that. Everything we do wrong is sin, but not all sin is fatal.

18-21 We know that none of the God-born makes a practice of sin—fatal sin. The God-born are also the God-protected. The Evil One can’t lay a hand on them. We know that we are held firm by God; it’s only the people of the world who continue in the grip of the Evil One. And we know that the Son of God came so we could recognize and understand the truth of God—what a gift!—and we are living in the Truth itself, in God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This Jesus is both True God and Real Life. Dear children, be on guard against all clever facsimiles.

5 凡信耶稣是基督的，都是从神而生；凡爱生他之神的，也必爱从神生的。 2 我们若爱神，又遵守他的诫命，从此就知道我们爱神的儿女。 3 我们遵守神的诫命，这就是爱他了，并且他的诫命不是难守的。 4 因为凡从神生的，就胜过世界。使我们胜了世界的，就是我们的信心。 5 胜过世界的是谁呢？不是那信耶稣是神儿子的吗？ 6 这借着水和血而来的，就是耶稣基督；不是单用水，乃是用水又用血。 7 并且有圣灵作见证，因为圣灵就是真理。 8 作见证的原来有三，就是圣灵、水与血，这三样也都归于一。 9 我们既领受人的见证，神的见证更该领受[a]了，因神的见证是为他儿子作的。 10 信神儿子的，就有这见证在他心里；不信神的，就是将神当做说谎的，因不信神为他儿子作的见证。 11 这见证就是神赐给我们永生，这永生也是在他儿子里面。 12 人有了神的儿子，就有生命；没有神的儿子，就没有生命。

若照着主的旨意求主就听我们

13 我将这些话写给你们信奉神儿子之名的人，要叫你们知道自己有永生。 14 我们若照他的旨意求什么，他就听我们，这是我们向他所存坦然无惧的心。 15 既然知道他听我们一切所求的，就知道我们所求于他的，无不得着。 16 人若看见弟兄犯了不至于死的罪，就当为他祈求，神必将生命赐给他；有至于死的罪，我不说当为这罪祈求。 17 凡不义的事都是罪，也有不至于死的罪。

当远避偶像

18 我们知道凡从神生的，必不犯罪，从神生的必保守自己[b]，那恶者也就无法害他。 19 我们知道我们是属神的，全世界都卧在那恶者手下。 20 我们也知道神的儿子已经来到，且将智慧赐给我们，使我们认识那位真实的；我们也在那位真实的里面，就是在他儿子耶稣基督里面。这是真神，也是永生。 21 小子们哪，你们要自守，远避偶像。
