Dumnezeu încheie legământ cu David
17 După ce David s-a stabilit în palatul lui, i-a zis profetului Natan:
– Priveşte! Eu locuiesc într-un palat din cedru, în timp ce Chivotul Legământului cu Domnul se află sub nişte pânze.
2 – Fă tot ceea ce ai pe inimă, căci Dumnezeu este cu tine! i-a răspuns Natan lui David.
3 În noaptea aceea însă Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu a venit la Natan şi i-a zis: 4 „Du-te şi spune-i robului Meu David, astfel: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Nu tu Îmi vei zidi o Casă de locuit. 5 Eu nu am locuit într-o Casă din ziua în care l-am ridicat pe Israel şi până astăzi, ci am călătorit din cort în cort şi dintr-o locuinţă într-alta. 6 Pretutindeni pe unde am călătorit împreună cu întregul Israel, oare am cerut vreunuia dintre judecătorii[a] lui Israel, cărora le-am poruncit să păstorească poporul Meu, să-Mi zidească o Casă din cedru?’» 7 Prin urmare, să-i spui robului Meu David, astfel: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor: ‘Eu te-am luat de la stână, de la păstoritul oilor, ca să fii conducătorul poporului Meu, Israel. 8 Am fost cu tine pretutindeni pe unde ai mers, am nimicit dinaintea ta pe toţi duşmanii tăi şi ţi-am făcut un nume ca numele celor mari de pe pământ. 9 Am păstrat un loc pentru poporul Meu Israel şi l-am sădit acolo ca să locuiască singur, fără să mai fie tulburat şi fără ca cei nedrepţi să-l mai poată istovi, aşa cum făcuseră mai înainte, 10 încă din zilele în care rânduisem judecători peste poporul Meu, Israel. Şi ţie ţi-i voi supune pe toţi duşmanii tăi. Acum îţi vestesc că Domnul îţi va zidi o Casă. 11 Când ţi se vor împlini zilele şi vei merge la un loc cu strămoşii tăi, îl voi ridica pe urmaşul[b] tău, care va fi dintre fiii tăi, şi-i voi întări domnia. 12 El Îmi va zidi o Casă, şi Eu îi voi întări tronul pe vecie. 13 Eu voi fi Tatăl lui, iar el va fi fiul Meu. Şi nu voi îndepărta îndurarea Mea de la el, aşa cum am îndepărtat-o de la cel ce a fost înaintea ta. 14 Îl voi aşeza în casa Mea şi în regatul Meu pe vecie, iar tronul lui va fi întărit pe vecie.’»“
15 Natan l-a înştiinţat pe David întocmai despre toate aceste cuvinte, despre toată această vedenie.
16 Regele David a venit şi s-a aşezat înaintea Domnului, spunând:
„Cine sunt eu, Doamne Dumnezeule, şi cine este casa mea, de m-ai adus până aici? 17 Şi ca şi cum ar fi prea puţin pentru Tine, Dumnezeule, ai vorbit pe deasupra şi despre viitorul casei robului Tău, privindu-mă ca pe un om de rang înalt, Doamne Dumnezeule! 18 Ce ar putea să-Ţi mai răspundă David la toată cinstea arătată robului Tău? Tu îl cunoşti pe robul Tău! 19 Doamne, de dragul robului Tău şi datorită inimii Tale[c], ai făcut Tu toate aceste lucrări măreţe şi ai descoperit toate aceste lucruri mari.
20 Doamne, după câte am auzit cu urechile noastre, nu este nimeni ca Tine şi nu există alt Dumnezeu în afară de Tine. 21 Şi cine este ca poporul Tău, ca Israel, singurul neam de pe pământ pe care a venit Dumnezeu să îl răscumpere pentru Sine, ca să fie poporul cu care să-Şi facă un nume? Tu ai făcut lucrări măreţe şi înfricoşătoare, izgonind neamuri dinaintea poporului Tău, pe care Ţi l-ai răscumpărat din Egipt. 22 Ai hotărât ca poporul Tău, Israel, să fie poporul Tău pe vecie, iar Tu, Doamne, să le fii Dumnezeu.
23 Şi acum, Doamne, fie ca promisiunea pe care ai făcut-o cu privire la robul Tău şi la Casa lui să rămână pe vecie şi fă precum ai zis. 24 Fie întărit şi preamărit Numele Tău! În veci să se spună că Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel, este Dumnezeu pentru Israel, iar casa robului Tău David să dăinuiască înaintea Ta. 25 Tu, Dumnezeul meu, ai descoperit robului Tău că îi vei zidi o Casă. De aceea a avut îndrăzneală robul Tău să Ţi se roage. 26 Aşadar, Doamne, Tu, Cel Care eşti Dumnezeu, ai promis robului Tău aceste lucruri bune. 27 Binevoieşte deci să binecuvântezi casa robului Tău, ca să dăinuiască veşnic înaintea Ta. Căci ceea ce Tu, Doamne, ai binecuvântat va rămâne binecuvântat pe vecie.“

Promesa de Dios a David
17 (A)Cuando David ya moraba en su casa, le dijo al profeta Natán: «Yo habito en una casa de cedro, pero el arca del pacto del Señor está bajo una tienda[a]».
2 Entonces Natán dijo a David: «Haga todo lo que está en su corazón, porque Dios está con usted». 3 Esa misma noche la palabra de Dios vino a Natán y le dijo: 4 «Ve y dile a Mi siervo David: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Tú no me edificarás casa para que Yo habite en ella(B). 5 No he morado en una casa desde el día en que hice subir a Israel hasta hoy, sino que he ido de tienda en tienda y de morada en morada(C). 6 En todos los lugares donde he andado con todo Israel, ¿he hablado alguna palabra con alguien de los jueces de Israel, a quienes mandé apacentar a Mi pueblo, diciéndoles: “Por qué ustedes no me han edificado una casa de cedro(D)?”’”.
7 »Ahora pues, así dirás a Mi siervo David: “Así dice el Señor de los ejércitos: ‘Yo te tomé del pastizal, de seguir las ovejas, para que fueras príncipe sobre Mi pueblo Israel. 8 He estado contigo por dondequiera que has ido y he exterminado a todos tus enemigos de delante de ti, y haré de ti un nombre como el nombre de los grandes que hay en la tierra. 9 Asignaré también un lugar para Mi pueblo Israel, y lo plantaré allí para que habite en su propio lugar y no sea removido más. Tampoco los malvados[b] los oprimirán más como antes, 10 como desde los días que ordené que hubiera jueces sobre Mi pueblo Israel; y someteré a todos tus enemigos. Además te hago saber que el Señor te edificará una casa. 11 Y sucederá que cuando se cumplan tus días para que vayas a estar con tus padres, levantaré a uno de tus descendientes[c] después de ti, que será de tus hijos; y estableceré su reino. 12 Él me edificará una casa, y Yo estableceré su trono para siempre. 13 Yo seré padre para él y él será hijo para Mí(E); y no quitaré de él Mi misericordia, como la quité de aquel que estaba antes de ti(F). 14 Sino que lo confirmaré en Mi casa y en Mi reino para siempre, y su trono será establecido para siempre’”». 15 Conforme a todas estas palabras y conforme a toda esta visión, así habló Natán a David.
Oración de David
16 Entonces el rey David entró y se presentó delante del Señor, y dijo: «¿Quién soy yo, oh Señor Dios, y qué es mi casa para que me hayas traído hasta aquí(G)? 17 Y aun esto fue poco ante Tus ojos, oh Dios, pues también has hablado de la casa de Tu siervo concerniente a un futuro lejano, y me has considerado conforme a la medida de un hombre excelso, oh Señor Dios. 18 ¿Qué más te puede decir David en cuanto al honor concedido a Tu siervo? Porque Tú conoces a Tu siervo. 19 Oh Señor, por amor a Tu siervo y según Tu corazón, Tú has hecho esta gran cosa para manifestar todas estas grandezas(H). 20 Oh Señor, no hay nadie como Tú, ni hay Dios fuera de Ti, conforme a todo lo que hemos oído con nuestros oídos. 21 ¿Y qué otra nación en la tierra es como Tu pueblo Israel, al cual Dios vino a redimir como pueblo para Sí, a fin de darte un nombre por medio de cosas grandes y terribles, al echar naciones de delante de Tu pueblo, al que rescataste de Egipto? 22 Pues hiciste a Tu pueblo Israel pueblo Tuyo para siempre(I), y Tú, Señor, has venido a ser su Dios.
23 »Y ahora, Señor, que la palabra que Tú has hablado acerca de Tu siervo y acerca de su casa sea afirmada para siempre. Haz según has hablado. 24 Y sea confirmado y engrandecido Tu nombre para siempre, al decirse: “El Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, es Dios para Israel; y que la casa de Tu siervo David sea establecida delante de Ti”. 25 Porque Tú, Dios mío, has revelado a Tu siervo que le edificarás una casa; por tanto Tu siervo ha hallado ánimo para orar delante de Ti. 26 Ahora pues, Señor, Tú eres Dios, y has prometido bien a Tu siervo. 27 Y ahora, ten a bien bendecir la casa de Tu siervo, a fin de que permanezca para siempre delante de Ti; porque Tú, Señor, la has bendecido, y es bendecida para siempre».

17 After David had been living in his new palace for some time he said to Nathan the prophet, “Look! I’m living here in a cedar-paneled home while the Ark of the Covenant of God is out there in a tent!”
2 And Nathan replied, “Carry out your plan in every detail, for it is the will of the Lord.”
3 But that same night God said to Nathan, 4 “Go and give my servant David this message: ‘You are not to build my temple! 5 I’ve gone from tent to tent as my home from the time I brought Israel out of Egypt. 6 In all that time I never suggested to any of the leaders of Israel—the shepherds I appointed to care for my people—that they should build me a cedar-lined temple.’
7 “Tell my servant David, ‘The Lord of heaven says to you, I took you from being a shepherd and made you the king of my people. 8 And I have been with you everywhere you’ve gone; I have destroyed your enemies, and I will make your name as great as the greatest of the earth. 9 And I will give a permanent home to my people Israel and will plant them in their land. They will not be disturbed again; the wicked nations won’t conquer them as they did before 10 when the judges ruled them. I will subdue all of your enemies. And I now declare that I will cause your descendants to be kings of Israel just as you are.
11 “‘When your time here on earth is over and you die, I will place one of your sons upon your throne; and I will make his kingdom strong. 12 He is the one who shall build me a temple, and I will establish his royal line of descent forever. 13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son; I will never remove my mercy and love from him as I did from Saul. 14 I will place him over my people and over the kingdom of Israel forever—and his descendants will always be kings.’”
15 So Nathan told King David everything the Lord had said.
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family that you have given me all this? 17 For all the great things you have already done for me are nothing in comparison to what you have promised to do in the future! For now, O Lord God, you are speaking of future generations of my children being kings too! You speak as though I were someone very great. 18 What else can I say? You know that I am but a dog, yet you have decided to honor me! 19 O Lord, you have given me these wonderful promises just because you want to be kind to me, because of your own great heart. 20 O Lord, there is no one like you—there is no other God. In fact, we have never even heard of another god like you!
21 “And what other nation in all the earth is like Israel? You have made a unique nation and have redeemed it from Egypt so that the people could be your people. And you made a great name for yourself when you did glorious miracles in driving out the nations from before your people. 22 You have declared that your people Israel belong to you forever, and you have become their God.
23 “And now I accept your promise, Lord, that I and my children will always rule this nation. 24 And may this bring eternal honor to your name as everyone realizes that you always do what you say. They will exclaim, ‘The Lord of heaven is indeed the God of Israel!’ And Israel shall always be ruled by my children and their posterity! 25 Now I have the courage to pray to you, for you have revealed this to me. 26 God himself has promised this good thing to me! 27 May this blessing rest upon my children forever, for when you grant a blessing, Lord, it is an eternal blessing!”

God’s Promise to David(A)
17 After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.(B)”
2 Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind,(C) do it, for God is with you.”
3 But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying:
4 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord says: You(D) are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. 5 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt to this day. I have moved from one tent site to another, from one dwelling place to another. 6 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever say to any of their leaders[a] whom I commanded to shepherd my people, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?(E)”’
7 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: I took you from the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler(F) over my people Israel. 8 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the names of the greatest men on earth. 9 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 10 and have done ever since the time I appointed leaders(G) over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies.
“‘I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you: 11 When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. 12 He is the one who will build(H) a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.(I) 13 I will be his father,(J) and he will be my son.(K) I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor. 14 I will set him over my house and my kingdom forever; his throne(L) will be established forever.(M)’”
15 Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
David’s Prayer(N)
16 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and he said:
“Who am I, Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far? 17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, my God, you have spoken about the future of the house of your servant. You, Lord God, have looked on me as though I were the most exalted of men.
18 “What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know your servant, 19 Lord. For the sake(O) of your servant and according to your will, you have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.(P)
20 “There is no one like you, Lord, and there is no God but you,(Q) as we have heard with our own ears. 21 And who is like your people Israel—the one nation on earth whose God went out to redeem(R) a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself, and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt? 22 You made your people Israel your very own forever,(S) and you, Lord, have become their God.
23 “And now, Lord, let the promise(T) you have made concerning your servant and his house be established forever. Do as you promised, 24 so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever. Then people will say, ‘The Lord Almighty, the God over Israel, is Israel’s God!’ And the house of your servant David will be established before you.
25 “You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you. 26 You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. 27 Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight;(U) for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”
