La Nuova Diodati

1 Paolo, chiamato ad essere apostolo di Gesú Cristo, per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Sostene,

2 alla chiesa di Dio che è in Corinto ai santificati in Gesú Cristo, chiamati ad essere santi, insieme a tutti quelli che in qualunque luogo invocano il nome di Gesú Cristo, loro Signore e nostro:

3 grazia e pace a voi da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesú Cristo.

4 Io rendo continuamente grazie per voi al mio Dio, a motivo della grazia di Dio che vi è stata data in Cristo Gesú,

5 perché in lui siete stati arricchiti in ogni cosa, in ogni dono di parola e in ogni conoscenza,

6 per la testimonianza di Cristo che è stata confermata tra voi,

7 cosí che non vi manca alcun dono mentre aspettate la manifestazione del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo,

8 il quale vi confermerà fino alla fine, affinché siate irreprensibili nel giorno del nostro Signore Gesú Cristo.

9 Fedele è Dio dal quale siete stati chiamati alla comunione del suo Figlio Gesú Cristo, nostro Signore.

10 Ora, fratelli, vi esorto nel nome del nostro Signore Gesú Cristo ad avere tutti un medesimo parlare e a non avere divisioni tra di voi, ma ad essere perfettamente uniti in un medesimo modo di pensare e di volere.

11 Mi è stato segnalato infatti a vostro riguardo, fratelli miei, da quelli della casa di Cloe, che vi sono contese fra voi.

12 Or voglio dire questo, che ciascuno di voi dice: «Io sono di Paolo», «io di Apollo», «io di Cefa» ed «io di Cristo».

13 Cristo è forse diviso? Paolo è stato forse crocifisso per voi? O siete voi stati battezzati nel nome di Paolo?

14 Ringrazio Dio che non ho battezzato alcuno di voi, ad eccezione di Crispo e Gaio,

15 perché nessuno dica che siete stati battezzati nel mio nome.

16 Ho battezzato anche la famiglia di Stefana; per il resto non so se ho battezzato qualcun altro.

17 Cristo infatti non mi ha mandato a battezzare, ma ad evangelizzare, non però con sapienza di parola, affinché la croce di Cristo non sia resa vana.

18 Infatti il messaggio della croce è follia per quelli che periscono, ma per noi che siamo salvati è potenza di Dio.

19 Sta scritto infatti: «Io farò perire la sapienza dei savi e annullerò l'intelligenza degli intelligenti».

20 Dov'è il savio? Dov'è lo scriba? Dov'è il disputatore di questa età? Non ha forse Dio resa stolta la sapienza di questo mondo?

21 Infatti, poiché nella sapienza di Dio il mondo non ha conosciuto Dio per mezzo della propria sapienza, è piaciuto a Dio di salvare quelli che credono mediante la follia della predicazione

22 poiché i Giudei chiedono un segno e i Greci cercano sapienza,

23 ma noi predichiamo Cristo crocifisso, che è scandalo per i Giudei e follia per i Greci;

24 ma a quelli che sono chiamati, sia Giudei che Greci, noi predichiamo Cristo, potenza di Dio e sapienza di Dio;

25 poiché la follia di Dio è piú savia degli uomini e la debolezza di Dio piú forte degli uomini.

26 Riguardate infatti la vostra vocazione, fratelli, poiché non ci sono tra di voi molti savi secondo la carne, non molti potenti, non molti nobili,

27 ma Dio ha scelto le cose stolte del mondo per svergognare le savie; e Dio ha scelto le cose deboli del mondo per svergognare le forti;

28 e Dio ha scelto le cose ignobili del mondo e le cose spregevoli e le cose che non sono per ridurre al niente quelle che sono,

29 affinché nessuna carne si glori alla sua presenza.

30 Ora grazie a lui voi siete in Cristo Gesú, il quale da Dio è stato fatto per noi sapienza, giustizia, santificazione e redenzione,

31 affinché, come sta scritto: «Chi si gloria, si glori nel Signore»

2 τη εκκλησια του θεου τη ουση εν κορινθω ηγιασμενοις εν χριστω ιησου κλητοις αγιοις συν πασιν τοις επικαλουμενοις το ονομα του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου εν παντι τοπω αυτων τε και ημων

3 χαρις υμιν και ειρηνη απο θεου πατρος ημων και κυριου ιησου χριστου

4 ευχαριστω τω θεω μου παντοτε περι υμων επι τη χαριτι του θεου τη δοθειση υμιν εν χριστω ιησου

5 οτι εν παντι επλουτισθητε εν αυτω εν παντι λογω και παση γνωσει

6 καθως το μαρτυριον του χριστου εβεβαιωθη εν υμιν

7 ωστε υμας μη υστερεισθαι εν μηδενι χαρισματι απεκδεχομενους την αποκαλυψιν του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου

8 ος και βεβαιωσει υμας εως τελους ανεγκλητους εν τη ημερα του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου

9 πιστος ο θεος δι ου εκληθητε εις κοινωνιαν του υιου αυτου ιησου χριστου του κυριου ημων

10 παρακαλω δε υμας αδελφοι δια του ονοματος του κυριου ημων ιησου χριστου ινα το αυτο λεγητε παντες και μη η εν υμιν σχισματα ητε δε κατηρτισμενοι εν τω αυτω νοι και εν τη αυτη γνωμη

11 εδηλωθη γαρ μοι περι υμων αδελφοι μου υπο των χλοης οτι εριδες εν υμιν εισιν

12 λεγω δε τουτο οτι εκαστος υμων λεγει εγω μεν ειμι παυλου εγω δε απολλω εγω δε κηφα εγω δε χριστου

13 μεμερισται ο χριστος μη παυλος εσταυρωθη υπερ υμων η εις το ονομα παυλου εβαπτισθητε

14 ευχαριστω τω θεω οτι ουδενα υμων εβαπτισα ει μη κρισπον και γαιον

15 ινα μη τις ειπη οτι εις το εμον ονομα εβαπτισα

16 εβαπτισα δε και τον στεφανα οικον λοιπον ουκ οιδα ει τινα αλλον εβαπτισα

17 ου γαρ απεστειλεν με χριστος βαπτιζειν αλλ ευαγγελιζεσθαι ουκ εν σοφια λογου ινα μη κενωθη ο σταυρος του χριστου

18 ο λογος γαρ ο του σταυρου τοις μεν απολλυμενοις μωρια εστιν τοις δε σωζομενοις ημιν δυναμις θεου εστιν

19 γεγραπται γαρ απολω την σοφιαν των σοφων και την συνεσιν των συνετων αθετησω

20 που σοφος που γραμματευς που συζητητης του αιωνος τουτου ουχι εμωρανεν ο θεος την σοφιαν του κοσμου τουτου

21 επειδη γαρ εν τη σοφια του θεου ουκ εγνω ο κοσμος δια της σοφιας τον θεον ευδοκησεν ο θεος δια της μωριας του κηρυγματος σωσαι τους πιστευοντας

22 επειδη και ιουδαιοι σημειον αιτουσιν και ελληνες σοφιαν ζητουσιν

23 ημεις δε κηρυσσομεν χριστον εσταυρωμενον ιουδαιοις μεν σκανδαλον ελλησιν δε μωριαν

24 αυτοις δε τοις κλητοις ιουδαιοις τε και ελλησιν χριστον θεου δυναμιν και θεου σοφιαν

25 οτι το μωρον του θεου σοφωτερον των ανθρωπων εστιν και το ασθενες του θεου ισχυροτερον των ανθρωπων εστιν

26 βλεπετε γαρ την κλησιν υμων αδελφοι οτι ου πολλοι σοφοι κατα σαρκα ου πολλοι δυνατοι ου πολλοι ευγενεις

27 αλλα τα μωρα του κοσμου εξελεξατο ο θεος ινα τους σοφους καταισχυνη και τα ασθενη του κοσμου εξελεξατο ο θεος ινα καταισχυνη τα ισχυρα

28 και τα αγενη του κοσμου και τα εξουθενημενα εξελεξατο ο θεος και τα μη οντα ινα τα οντα καταργηση

29 οπως μη καυχησηται πασα σαρξ ενωπιον αυτου

30 εξ αυτου δε υμεις εστε εν χριστω ιησου ος εγενηθη ημιν σοφια απο θεου δικαιοσυνη τε και αγιασμος και απολυτρωσις

31 ινα καθως γεγραπται ο καυχωμενος εν κυριω καυχασθω

1 Paul, called to be an apostle(A) of Christ Jesus by the will of God,(B) and our brother Sosthenes,(C)

2 To the church of God(D) in Corinth,(E) to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called(F) to be his holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name(G) of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.(H)

Thanksgiving

4 I always thank my God for you(I) because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched(J) in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge(K)— 6 God thus confirming our testimony(L) about Christ among you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift(M) as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.(N) 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless(O) on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.(P) 9 God is faithful,(Q) who has called you(R) into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.(S)

A Church Divided Over Leaders

10 I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,[a](T) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you,(U) but that you be perfectly united(V) in mind and thought. 11 My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household(W) have informed me that there are quarrels among you. 12 What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”;(X) another, “I follow Apollos”;(Y) another, “I follow Cephas[b]”;(Z) still another, “I follow Christ.”

13 Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?(AA) 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus(AB) and Gaius,(AC) 15 so no one can say that you were baptized in my name. 16 (Yes, I also baptized the household(AD) of Stephanas;(AE) beyond that, I don’t remember if I baptized anyone else.) 17 For Christ did not send me to baptize,(AF) but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom(AG) and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness(AH) to those who are perishing,(AI) but to us who are being saved(AJ) it is the power of God.(AK) 19 For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
    the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c](AL)

20 Where is the wise person?(AM) Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age?(AN) Has not God made foolish(AO) the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world(AP) through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save(AQ) those who believe.(AR) 22 Jews demand signs(AS) and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified:(AT) a stumbling block(AU) to Jews and foolishness(AV) to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called,(AW) both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God(AX) and the wisdom of God.(AY) 25 For the foolishness(AZ) of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness(BA) of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called.(BB) Not many of you were wise(BC) by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose(BD) the foolish(BE) things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not(BF)—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him.(BG) 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus,(BH) who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness,(BI) holiness(BJ) and redemption.(BK) 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”[d](BL)
