Mga Karapatan at Tungkulin ng Isang Apostol
9 Hindi ba ako malaya? Hindi ba ako apostol? Hindi ba't nakita ko si Jesus na ating Panginoon? Hindi ba kayo ang bunga ng aking paglilingkod sa kanya? 2 Ang iba'y ayaw kilalanin ang aking pagka-apostol, subalit para sa inyo, ako'y isang apostol, at kayo ang katibayang ako'y apostol nga ng Panginoon.
3 Ito ang sagot ko sa mga pumupuna sa akin. 4 Wala ba kaming karapatang tustusan ng iglesya sa aming pangangailangan?[a] 5 Wala ba kaming karapatang magsama ng asawang Cristiano, tulad ng ginagawa ng ibang mga apostol, at ng mga kapatid ng Panginoon, at gayundin ni Pedro? 6 Kami lamang ba ni Bernabe ang walang karapatang tumigil sa paghahanapbuhay? 7 Ang kawal ba ang gumagastos para sa kanyang pangangailangan habang naglilingkod siya? Sinong tao ang nagtatanim ng ubas at hindi nakikinabang sa mga bunga nito? Sinong pastol ang nag-aalaga ng tupa at hindi nakikinabang sa gatas nito?
8 Ang sinasabi ko ay hindi nababatay sa kaisipan lamang ng tao. Ganoon din ang sinasabi ng Kautusan. 9 Sapagkat(A) nasusulat sa Kautusan ni Moises, “Huwag mong bubusalan ang bibig ng baka habang ito'y gumigiik.” Mga baka nga kaya ang inaalala ng Diyos? 10 Hindi ba tayo ang tinutukoy niya? Alang-alang sa atin kaya iyon isinulat, sapagkat ang magsasakang nag-aararo at ang naghihiwalay ng mga butil sa uhay ay gumagawa sa pag-asang may bahagi sila sa aanihin. 11 Naghasik(B) kami sa inyo ng pagpapalang espirituwal; malaking bagay ba naman kung umani kami ng mga materyal na pakinabang mula sa inyo? 12 Kung ang iba'y may ganitong karapatan, lalo na kami!
Ngunit hindi namin ginamit ang karapatang ito. Tiniis namin ang lahat upang hindi kami maging hadlang sa Magandang Balita tungkol kay Cristo. 13 Hindi(C) ba ninyo alam na ang mga naglilingkod sa Templo ay tumatanggap ng pagkain mula sa Templo, at ang mga naglilingkod sa dambana ay may bahagi sa mga handog na nasa dambana? 14 Sa(D) ganyan ding paraan, ipinag-utos ng Panginoon na ang mga nangangaral ng Magandang Balita ay dapat matustusan ang ikabubuhay sa pamamagitan ng Magandang Balita.
15 Ngunit hindi ko ginamit ang alinman sa mga karapatang ito, at hindi ko kayo sinusulatan ngayon upang hingan ng tulong. Mas iibigin ko pang mamatay kaysa mawala sa akin ang bagay na maipagmamalaki ko! 16 Hindi ngayo't nangangaral ako ng Magandang Balita ay maaari na akong magmalaki. Sapagkat iyan ay tungkuling iniatang sa akin, sumpain ako kung hindi ko ipangaral ang Magandang Balita! 17 Kung ginagawa ko ito nang kusang-loob, ako'y may maaasahang kabayaran, ngunit ginagawa ko ito bilang pagtupad sa tungkuling ipinagkatiwala sa akin ng Diyos. 18 Ano ngayon ang aking kabayaran? Ang maipangaral ko nang walang-bayad ang Magandang Balita, at ang hindi ko paggamit ng karapatang nauukol sa akin bilang tagapangaral.
19 Malaya ako at di alipin ninuman; ngunit nagpaalipin ako sa lahat upang makahikayat ako ng mas marami sa Panginoon. 20 Sa piling ng mga Judio, ako'y namuhay tulad ng isang Judio upang mahikayat ko sila. Kahit hindi ako saklaw ng Kautusan, nagpailalim ako rito alang-alang sa mga nasa ilalim ng Kautusan, upang mailapit ko sila sa Diyos. 21 Sa piling naman ng mga Hentil, na hindi saklaw ng Kautusan, ako'y naging parang Hentil upang sila'y mahikayat ko rin. Subalit hindi ito nangangahulugang hindi ko sinusunod ang mga utos ng Diyos, sapagkat ako'y nasa ilalim ng kautusan ni Cristo. 22 Sa piling ng mahihina, ako'y naging parang mahina rin upang mahikayat ko sila. Ako'y nakibagay sa lahat ng tao upang sa lahat ng paraan ay makapagligtas ako ng kahit ilan man lamang.
23 Ginagawa ko ang lahat ng ito alang-alang sa Magandang Balita, upang makabahagi ako sa mga pagpapala nito. 24 Alam ninyong ang mga kalahok sa paligsahan ay tumatakbong lahat, ngunit iisa lamang ang nagkakamit ng gantimpala! Kaya't pagbutihin ninyo ang pagtakbo upang kamtan ninyo ang gantimpala. 25 Lahat(E) ng manlalarong nagsasanay ay may disiplina sa lahat ng bagay upang magkamit ng isang gantimpalang panandalian lamang. Ngunit ang gantimpalang hinahangad natin ay panghabang panahon. 26 Hindi ako tumatakbo nang walang patutunguhan at hindi ako sumusuntok sa hangin. 27 Subalit pinahihirapan ko ang aking katawan at sinusupil ito, upang sa gayo'y hindi ako maalis sa paligsahan pagkatapos kong mangaral sa iba.

Direitos e deveres de um apóstolo
9 Não sou eu livre? Não sou um apóstolo? Não vi a Jesus, nosso Senhor? Por acaso vocês não são frutos do meu trabalho no Senhor? 2 Outros podem não me reconhecer como apóstolo, mas vocês bem sabem que eu o sou. Vocês são a prova que eu sou um apóstolo do Senhor.
3 A minha defesa contra aqueles que me interrogam é esta: 4 Não temos nós o direito de comer e beber? 5 Não temos o direito de levar conosco uma esposa cristã, como fazem os outros apóstolos, os irmãos do Senhor e Pedro? 6 Ou será que somente Barnabé e eu temos que trabalhar para ganhar o nosso próprio sustento? 7 Qual é o soldado que, estando no exército, tem que trabalhar para se sustentar? Quem é que planta uma vinha e não come das uvas? Ou quem é que toma conta de um rebanho e não bebe do seu leite?
8 Por acaso eu estou dizendo isto baseado em comparações humanas, ou a lei de Moisés não diz a mesma coisa? 9 Pois a lei diz: “Não amarre a boca do boi quando ele estiver debulhando o trigo”.(A) Por acaso é com bois que Deus se preocupa? 10 Ou foi para o nosso bem que ele disse isso? Certamente que foi para o nosso bem que ele disse isso; pois tanto aquele que ara como aquele que debulha o trigo devem trabalhar com a esperança de receber a parte que lhes é devida. 11 Se nós semeamos entre vocês a semente espiritual, será demais se colhermos de vocês alguma coisa material? 12 Se outros têm o direito de receber alguma coisa de vocês, será que nós não temos muito mais direito do que eles? Entretanto nós não temos usado esse direito. Pelo contrário, suportamos tudo para não criarmos qualquer obstáculo para as Boas Novas de Cristo. 13 Vocês não sabem que aqueles que trabalham no templo recebem seu próprio alimento do templo, e aqueles que servem no altar recebem parte do que é oferecido no altar? 14 Da mesma maneira, o Senhor ordenou que aqueles que anunciam as Boas Novas devem receber seu sustento desse mesmo trabalho.
15 Mas eu não fiz uso daquilo a que tenho direito e nem estou escrevendo agora para receber alguma coisa de vocês. Pois prefiro morrer antes que alguém me tire esse orgulho que sinto. 16 Se eu anuncio as Boas Novas, não tenho do que me orgulhar, pois essa é minha obrigação. Ai de mim se não anunciar as Boas Novas! 17 Se eu anunciar por minha própria vontade, mereço uma recompensa. Mas, se a escolha não é minha e eu fui encarregado de anunciar as Boas Novas, 18 então qual é a minha recompensa? Esta é a minha recompensa: quando anuncio as Boas Novas, posso fazê-lo de graça. Desse modo não faço uso daquilo a que tenho direito: de ser pago pelo meu trabalho de anunciar as Boas Novas.
19 Embora eu seja livre e não pertença a ninguém, fiz-me escravo de todos, a fim de ajudar a salvar o maior número possível de pessoas. 20 Para os judeus, eu me tornei como um judeu, a fim de ajudar a salvar os judeus. Para aqueles que são governados pela lei de Moisés, eu me tornei como uma pessoa que é governada pela lei, a fim de ajudar a salvar aqueles que são governados por ela. (Eu fiz isso apesar de não ser governado pela lei.) 21 Para os que não são judeus, tornei-me como alguém que não é judeu, a fim de ajudar a salvar aqueles que não são judeus. (Eu fiz isso apesar de não estar sem a lei de Deus; sou governado pela lei de Cristo.) 22 Para aqueles que são fracos, eu me tornei fraco, a fim de ajudar a salvar os que são fracos. Eu tenho me tornado todas as coisas para todas as pessoas, para que, por todos os meios possíveis, eu possa salvar alguns. 23 Tudo faço por causa das Boas Novas, para poder participar dos benefícios delas.
24 Vocês não sabem que numa corrida todos os corredores correm, mas só um leva o prêmio? Portanto, corram desta maneira: corram para ganhar! 25 Todo atleta passa por um treinamento rigoroso para ganhar uma coroa[a] que dura pouco. Nós, porém, fazemos isso para ganhar um prêmio que dura para sempre. 26 Por isso eu não corro sem ter um objetivo. Luto como um lutador que está batendo em alguma coisa e não simplesmente no ar. 27 Bato no meu próprio corpo, e o deixo sob controle. Pois eu mesmo não quero ser rejeitado depois de ter anunciado as Boas Novas a outros.

A Pattern of Self-Denial
9 Am (A)I not an apostle? Am I not free? (B)Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? (C)Are you not my work in the Lord? 2 If I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you. For you are (D)the [a]seal of my apostleship in the Lord.
3 My defense to those who examine me is this: 4 (E)Do we have no [b]right to eat and drink? 5 Do we have no right to take along [c]a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, (F)the brothers of the Lord, and (G)Cephas? 6 Or is it only Barnabas and I (H)who have no right to refrain from working? 7 Who ever (I)goes to war at his own expense? Who (J)plants a vineyard and does not eat of its fruit? Or who (K)tends a flock and does not drink of the milk of the flock?
8 Do I say these things as a mere man? Or does not the law say the same also? 9 For it is written in the law of Moses, (L)“You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.” Is it oxen God is concerned about? 10 Or does He say it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written, that (M)he who plows should plow in hope, and he who threshes in hope should be partaker of his hope. 11 (N)If we have sown spiritual things for you, is it a great thing if we reap your material things? 12 If others are partakers of this right over you, are we not even more?
(O)Nevertheless we have not used this right, but endure all things (P)lest we hinder the gospel of Christ. 13 (Q)Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the (R)temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar? 14 Even so (S)the Lord has commanded (T)that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel.
15 But (U)I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for (V)it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void. 16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for (W)necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 For if I do this willingly, (X)I have a reward; but if against my will, (Y)I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 18 What is my reward then? That (Z)when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel [d]of Christ without charge, that I (AA)may not abuse my authority in the gospel.
Serving All Men
19 For though I am (AB)free from all men, (AC)I have made myself a servant to all, (AD)that I might win the more; 20 and (AE)to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the [e]law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 (AF)to (AG)those who are without law, as without law (AH)(not being without [f]law toward God, but under [g]law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 (AI)to the weak I became [h]as weak, that I might win the weak. (AJ)I have become all things to all men, (AK)that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.
Striving for a Crown
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? (AL)Run in such a way that you may [i]obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize [j]is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for (AM)an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: (AN)not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 (AO)But I discipline my body and (AP)bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become (AQ)disqualified.
