¹⁷Sapagkat isinugo ako ni Cristo, hindi upang magbautismo kundi upang mangaral ng Magandang Balita, at hindi sa pamamagitan ng mahusay na pagtatalumpati at karunungan ng tao, nang sa gayon ay hindi mawalan ng kabuluhan ang pagkamatay ni Cristo sa krus.

Si Cristo ang Kapangyarihan at Karunungan ng Diyos

¹⁸Ang mensahe tungkol sa pagkamatay ni Cristo sa krus ay kahangalan para sa mga taong napapahamak, ngunit ito'y kapangyarihan ng Diyos para sa ating mga naliligtas. ¹⁹Sapagkat^(A) nasusulat,

“Sisirain ko ang karunungan ng marurunong
at gagawin kong walang saysay ang katalinuhan ng matatalino.”

¹⁷For Christ did not send me to baptize,^(A) but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom^(B) and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom

¹⁸For the message of the cross is foolishness^(C) to those who are perishing,^(D) but to us who are being saved^(E) it is the power of God.^(F) ¹⁹For it is written:

“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”^[a]^(G)
