David Defeats His Enemies
18 (A)After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its villages out of the hand of the Philistines.
2 And he defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.
3 David also defeated (B)Hadadezer king of (C)Zobah-Hamath, as he went to set up his monument[a] at the river Euphrates. 4 And David took from him 1,000 chariots, (D)7,000 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses, but left enough for 100 chariots. 5 And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king (E)of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians. 6 Then David put garrisons[b] in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David[c] wherever he went. 7 And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 And from (F)Tibhath and from Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze. (G)With it Solomon made the bronze sea and the pillars and the vessels of bronze.
9 When (H)Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer, king (I)of Zobah, 10 he sent his son (J)Hadoram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against (K)Hadadezer and defeated him; for (L)Hadadezer had often been at war with Tou. And he sent all sorts of articles of gold, of silver, and of bronze. 11 These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he had carried off from all the nations, from (M)Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.
12 And (N)Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, killed 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 13 Then he put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.
David's Administration
14 So David reigned over all Israel, and he administered justice and equity to all his people. 15 And (O)Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; 16 (P)and Zadok the son of Ahitub and (Q)Ahimelech the son of Abiathar were priests; and (R)Shavsha was secretary; 17 and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David's sons were the (S)chief officials in the service of the king.

18 Después de eso, sucedió que David derrotó y humilló a los filisteos, y les arrebató la ciudad de Gat y sus villas. 2 También derrotó a los moabitas, y los hizo sus esclavos y los obligó a pagarle tributo. 3 Derrotó además en Jamat a Hadad Ezer, rey de Soba, cuando éste pretendía asegurar su dominio en la ribera del río Éufrates. 4 David le quitó mil carros de guerra, siete mil soldados de caballería y veinte mil soldados de infantería, y además desjarretó a los caballos que tiraban todos los carros, con la excepción de los caballos para cien carros.
5 Cuando los sirios vinieron de Damasco en ayuda de Hadad Ezer, rey de Soba, David hirió a veintidós mil de ellos; 6 luego puso una guarnición en Siria de Damasco, y obligó a los sirios a servirle y a pagarle tributo, pues el Señor le daba la victoria a David por dondequiera que iba.
7 David se apoderó de los escudos de oro que llevaban los siervos de Hadad Ezer, y los llevó a Jerusalén. 8 También se apoderó del mucho bronce que había en Tibejat y Cun, ciudades de Hadad Ezer, y con ese bronce hizo Salomón el mar de bronce, las columnas y los utensilios de bronce.(B)
9 Cuando el rey Toy de Jamat supo que David había derrotado totalmente al ejército de Hadad Ezer, rey de Soba, 10 envió a su hijo Hadorán para que saludara a David y lo bendijera por haber peleado con Hadad Ezer y haberlo vencido. Como Toy estaba en guerra contra Hadad Ezer, le envió al rey David toda clase de utensilios de oro, plata y bronce, 11 y el rey David dedicó todo esto al Señor, junto con la plata y el oro que les había quitado a todas las naciones de Edom, Moab, Amón, Filistea y Amalec.
12 Además de esto, Abisay hijo de Seruyá derrotó en el valle de la Sal a dieciocho mil edomitas,(C) 13 y puso una guarnición en Edom y obligó a todos los edomitas a servir a David, pues el Señor daba el triunfo a David por dondequiera que éste iba.

14 David llegó a ser rey de todo Israel, y gobernó con justicia y rectitud a todo su pueblo. 15 Joab hijo de Seruyá era el general de su ejército, y Josafat hijo de Ajilud era el canciller. 16 Sadoc hijo de Ajitob y Abimelec hijo de Abiatar eran sacerdotes, y Savsá era el secretario. 17 Benaías hijo de Joyadá estaba al mando de los cretenses y peleteos, y los hijos de David eran los príncipes que rodeaban al rey.
