Вечный наказывает Давуда за перепись(A)
21 Сатана[a] восстал на Исраил и побудил Давуда устроить перепись населения Исраила. 2 Давуд сказал Иоаву и начальникам войска:
– Пойдите, произведите перепись исраильтян от Беэр-Шевы на юге до Дана на севере и доложите мне, чтобы я знал, сколько их.
3 Но Иоав ответил:
– Пусть Вечный умножит количество Своего народа стократно. Разве не все они, господин мой царь, твои рабы? Зачем мой господин хочет это сделать? Зачем ему наводить грех на Исраил?
4 Но царское слово оказалось сильнее слова Иоава, и Иоав ушёл, прошёл по всему Исраилу и вернулся в Иерусалим. 5 Иоав представил Давуду результаты переписи. Во всём Исраиле было один миллион сто тысяч мужчин, способных владеть мечом, включая четыреста семьдесят тысяч в Иудее. 6 Но Иоав не включил в общее число роды Леви и Вениамина, потому что приказ царя ему не понравился. 7 Этот приказ был неугоден и Всевышнему, и Всевышний наказал Исраил.
8 Тогда Давуд сказал Всевышнему:
– Сделав это, я совершил великий грех. Теперь я молю Тебя, сними вину с Твоего раба! Я поступил безрассудно.
9 Вечный сказал Гаду, провидцу Давуда:
10 – Иди и скажи Давуду: Так говорит Вечный: «Я предлагаю тебе три наказания. Выбери, каким из них Мне наказать тебя».
11 Гад пришёл к Давуду и сказал ему:
– Так говорит Вечный: «Выбирай: 12 или три года голода, или три месяца опустошения врагами, когда их меч будет неотступно преследовать тебя, или три дня меча Вечного – это дни мора в стране, когда Ангел Вечного[b] станет губить людей по всей земле Исраила». Итак, обдумай это и реши, что мне ответить Пославшему меня.
13 И Давуд сказал Гаду:
– Мне очень тяжело. Пусть лучше я попаду в руки Вечного, ведь Его милость очень велика, но не дай мне попасть в человеческие руки!
14 И Вечный послал на Исраил мор, и погибло семьдесят тысяч исраильтян. 15 И Всевышний послал Ангела, чтобы Тот погубил Иерусалим. Но когда Ангел стал истреблять город, Вечный увидел это и пожалел о бедствии, и сказал Ангелу-губителю:
– Довольно! Опусти Свою руку!
Ангел Вечного стоял тогда над гумном иевусея Арауны[c]. 16 Давуд поднял взгляд и увидел Ангела Вечного, Который стоял между землёй и небом с обнажённым мечом в руке, протянутым в сторону Иерусалима. И Давуд со старейшинами, одетые в знак раскаяния в рубище, пали лицом на землю. 17 Давуд сказал Всевышнему:
– Разве не я велел пересчитать народ? Я согрешил и сделал зло, а эти овцы – что они сделали? Вечный, мой Бог, пусть же Твоя рука обратится на меня и на мою семью, но не дай Твоему народу погибнуть от мора.
Давуд сооружает жертвенник(B)
18 Тогда Ангел Вечного повелел Гаду сказать Давуду, чтобы тот пошёл и построил жертвенник Вечному на гумне иевусея Арауны. 19 И Давуд пошёл, как повелел через Гада Вечный.
20 Когда Арауна молотил пшеницу, он обернулся и увидел Ангела. Четверо сыновей Арауна, которые были с ним, попрятались. 21 Давуд пришёл к Арауне, и когда Арауна посмотрел и увидел Давуда, он вышел из гумна и поклонился Давуду лицом до земли. 22 Давуд сказал ему:
– Отдай мне своё гумно, я построю на его месте жертвенник Вечному, чтобы прекратился мор среди народа. Продай его мне за полную цену.
23 Арауна сказал Давуду:

24 Но царь Давуд ответил Арауне:
– Нет, я заплачу тебе полную цену. Я не возьму для Вечного того, что принадлежит тебе, и не стану приносить жертву, которая мне ничего не стоила.
25 И Давуд заплатил Арауне более семи килограммов[d] золота за это место. 26 Давуд построил там жертвенник Вечному и принёс всесожжения и жертвы примирения. Он призвал Вечного, и Вечный ответил ему, послав огонь с небес на жертвенник для всесожжений. 27 После этого Вечный сказал Ангелу, и тот вложил Свой меч в ножны.
28 В то время Давуд, увидев, что Вечный ответил ему на гумне иевусея Арауны, стал Ему приносить там жертвы. 29 Священный шатёр Вечного, который сделал в пустыне Муса, и жертвенник для всесожжений находились в то время в Гаваоне. 30 Но Давуд не мог пойти туда, чтобы говорить с Вечным, потому что боялся меча Ангела Вечного.

David Counts the Fighting Men(A)
21 Satan(B) rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census(C) of Israel. 2 So David said to Joab and the commanders of the troops, “Go and count(D) the Israelites from Beersheba to Dan. Then report back to me so that I may know how many there are.”
3 But Joab replied, “May the Lord multiply his troops a hundred times over.(E) My lord the king, are they not all my lord’s subjects? Why does my lord want to do this? Why should he bring guilt on Israel?”
4 The king’s word, however, overruled Joab; so Joab left and went throughout Israel and then came back to Jerusalem. 5 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to David: In all Israel(F) there were one million one hundred thousand men who could handle a sword, including four hundred and seventy thousand in Judah.
6 But Joab did not include Levi and Benjamin in the numbering, because the king’s command was repulsive to him. 7 This command was also evil in the sight of God; so he punished Israel.
8 Then David said to God, “I have sinned greatly by doing this. Now, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.”
9 The Lord said to Gad,(G) David’s seer,(H) 10 “Go and tell David, ‘This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.’”
11 So Gad went to David and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Take your choice: 12 three years of famine,(I) three months of being swept away[a] before your enemies, with their swords overtaking you, or three days of the sword(J) of the Lord(K)—days of plague in the land, with the angel of the Lord ravaging every part of Israel.’ Now then, decide how I should answer the one who sent me.”
13 David said to Gad, “I am in deep distress. Let me fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy(L) is very great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”
14 So the Lord sent a plague on Israel, and seventy thousand men of Israel fell dead.(M) 15 And God sent an angel(N) to destroy Jerusalem.(O) But as the angel was doing so, the Lord saw it and relented(P) concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was destroying(Q) the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand.” The angel of the Lord was then standing at the threshing floor of Araunah[b] the Jebusite.
16 David looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a drawn sword in his hand extended over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell facedown.(R)
17 David said to God, “Was it not I who ordered the fighting men to be counted? I, the shepherd,[c] have sinned and done wrong. These are but sheep.(S) What have they done? Lord my God, let your hand fall on me and my family,(T) but do not let this plague remain on your people.”
David Builds an Altar
18 Then the angel of the Lord ordered Gad to tell David to go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor(U) of Araunah the Jebusite. 19 So David went up in obedience to the word that Gad had spoken in the name of the Lord.
20 While Araunah was threshing wheat,(V) he turned and saw the angel; his four sons who were with him hid themselves. 21 Then David approached, and when Araunah looked and saw him, he left the threshing floor and bowed down before David with his face to the ground.
22 David said to him, “Let me have the site of your threshing floor so I can build an altar to the Lord, that the plague on the people may be stopped. Sell it to me at the full price.”
23 Araunah said to David, “Take it! Let my lord the king do whatever pleases him. Look, I will give the oxen for the burnt offerings, the threshing sledges for the wood, and the wheat for the grain offering. I will give all this.”
24 But King David replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on paying the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, or sacrifice a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”
25 So David paid Araunah six hundred shekels[d] of gold for the site. 26 David built an altar to the Lord there and sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. He called on the Lord, and the Lord answered him with fire(W) from heaven on the altar of burnt offering.
27 Then the Lord spoke to the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath. 28 At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite, he offered sacrifices there. 29 The tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time on the high place at Gibeon.(X) 30 But David could not go before it to inquire of God, because he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

David censa al pueblo(A)
21 Pero Satanás se pueso en contra de Israel e indujo a David a levantar un censo en Israel. 2 Entonces David ordenó a Joab y a los jefes del pueblo:
«Vayan y levanten un censo de Israel desde Berseba hasta Dan, y tráiganme el informe de cuántos son. Quiero saberlo.»
3 Joab le dijo:
«Mi señor y rey: ¡Que el Señor multiplique cien veces más el número de su pueblo! ¿Acaso no están todos estos al servicio de mi señor? ¿Para qué quiere mi señor hacer tal cosa? ¡Eso le contará a Israel como pecado!»
4 Pero la orden del rey pudo más que Joab. Así que Joab salió y recorrió todo Israel, y volvió a Jerusalén para entregar a David el número del pueblo censado. 5 En todo Israel había un millón cien mil hombres que manejaban la espada, y en Judá había cuatrocientos setenta mil hombres que manejaban la espada. 6 No fueron contados los levitas ni los benjaminitas, porque para Joab la orden del rey era repugnante.
7 Esto desagradó a Dios, e hirió de muerte a Israel. 8 Entonces David le dijo a Dios:
«Con esto que he hecho he pecado gravemente. Te ruego que perdones a este siervo tuyo por su maldad, porque he actuado sin pensar.»
9 El Señor habló con Gad, que era el vidente de David, y le dijo:
10 «Ve y habla con David, y dile que yo, el Señor, he dicho: “Te propongo tres cosas. Escoge de ellas la que quieras que yo haga contigo.”»
11 Gad fue a hablar con David, y le dijo:
«Así ha dicho el Señor: 12 Escoge qué prefieres: tres años de hambre, o ser derrotado durante tres meses por la espada de tus enemigos, o que haya peste en la tierra durante tres días, y que la espada del Señor, es decir, el ángel del Señor, traiga destrucción por todo Israel. Dime qué debo responder al que me ha enviado.»
13 Y David le dijo a Gad:
«Estoy en un gran aprieto. Permíteme caer en las manos del Señor, porque su misericordia es grande en extremo. ¡No me dejes caer en las manos de ningún hombre!»
14 Fue así como el Señor envió una peste sobre Israel, y murieron setenta mil israelitas. 15 El Señor envió al ángel a Jerusalén, para que la destruyera; pero cuando el Señor lo vio destruirla, le pesó haberle enviado ese mal y le dijo al ángel destructor:
«¡Basta ya! ¡Detente!»
En ese momento el ángel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Ornán el jebuseo. 16 David levantó los ojos y, al ver al ángel del Señor, que estaba entre el cielo y la tierra, y con la espada en la mano, desenvainada y extendida contra Jerusalén, tanto David como los ancianos se postraron sobre sus rostros y se cubrieron de cilicio. 17 Entonces David le dijo a Dios:
«¿Acaso no fui yo quien ordenó que se contara el pueblo? ¡Yo, y nadie más, ha pecado! ¡Yo soy quien ha actuado mal! Pero estas ovejas, ¿qué mal han hecho? Señor y Dios mío, deja caer tu mano sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre. ¡Que no venga la peste sobre tu pueblo!»
18 El ángel del Señor le ordenó a Gad decir a David que construyera un altar al Señor en la era de Ornán el jebuseo, 19 y conforme a la palabra de Gad de parte del Señor, David fue a hacerlo así. 20 Pero Ornán, que estaba trillando el trigo, se volvió y vio al ángel, y los cuatro hijos suyos que estaban con él corrieron a esconderse. 21 Entonces David fue a hablar con Ornán y, cuando éste miró a David, salió de la era y se postró en tierra ante David. 22 Entonces David le dijo a Ornán:
«Concédeme este lugar, para edificar un altar al Señor. Véndemelo por lo que realmente vale, para que el pueblo ya no siga muriendo.»
23 Y Ornán le respondió:
«Mi señor el rey puede tomar la era y hacer con ella lo que le parezca mejor. Yo le daré todo lo que necesite, hasta los bueyes para el holocausto, los trillos para la leña, y el trigo para la ofrenda.»
24 Entonces el rey David le dijo a Ornán:
«De ninguna manera. Yo te compraré la era por su precio justo. No voy a tomar para el Señor lo que es tuyo, ni voy a ofrecer ningún holocausto que nada me cueste.»
25 Y David pesó y le pagó a Ornán por la era seiscientas monedas de oro. 26 Allí edificó David un altar al Señor, y en él ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz, e invocó al Señor, quien le respondió desde los cielos enviando fuego sobre el altar del holocausto. 27 Entonces el Señor habló con el ángel, para que éste devolviera su espada a la vaina.
El lugar para el templo
28 Al ver David que el Señor le había atendido en el caso de la era de Ornán el jebuseo, ofreció sacrificios allí. 29 En aquel tiempo el tabernáculo del Señor que Moisés había hecho en el desierto, y el altar del holocausto, estaban en el lugar alto de Gabaón, 30 pero como David tenía miedo por causa de la espada del ángel del Señor, no podía ir allá para consultar a Dios.

Census Brings Plague
21 (A)Then Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to count Israel. 2 So David said to Joab and to the leaders of the people, “(B)Go, count Israel from Beersheba to Dan, and bring me word so that I may know their number.” 3 But Joab said, “(C)May the Lord add to His people a hundred times as many as they are! My lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? Why does my lord seek this thing? Why should he be a cause of guilt to Israel?” 4 Nevertheless, the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Therefore, Joab departed and went throughout Israel, and came to Jerusalem. 5 Then Joab gave the number of the census of the people to David. (D)Israel was 1,100,000 men in all who drew the sword; and Judah was 470,000 men who drew the sword. 6 (E)But he did not [a]count Levi and Benjamin among them, because the king’s [b]command was abhorrent to Joab.
7 Now [c]God was displeased with this thing, so He struck Israel. 8 David said to God, “I have sinned greatly, [d]by doing this thing. (F)But now, please overlook Your servant’s guilt, for I have behaved very foolishly.”
9 The Lord spoke to (G)Gad, David’s (H)seer, saying, 10 “Go and speak to David, saying, ‘This is what the Lord says: “I extend to you three choices; choose for yourself one of them, which I will do to you.”’” 11 So Gad came to David and said to him, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Take for yourself 12 (I)three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes while the sword of your enemies overtakes you, or else three days of the sword of the Lord: a plague in the land, and the angel of the Lord destroying throughout the territory of Israel.’ Now, therefore, consider what answer I shall bring back to Him who sent me.” 13 David said to Gad, “I am in great distress; please let me fall into the hand of the Lord, (J)for His mercies are very great. But do not let me fall into human hands.”
14 (K)So the Lord [e]sent a plague on Israel; seventy thousand men of Israel fell. 15 And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw and (L)was sorry about the catastrophe, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now relax your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of [f]Ornan the Jebusite. 16 Then David raised his eyes and saw the angel of the Lord standing between earth and heaven, with his drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, (M)covered with sackcloth, fell on their faces. 17 And David said to God, “Is it not I who [g]commanded to count the people? Indeed, I am the one who has sinned and acted very wickedly, (N)but these sheep, what have they done? Lord, my God, just let Your hand be against me and my father’s household, and not against Your people as a plague.”
David’s Altar
18 (O)Then the angel of the Lord [h]commanded Gad to say to David, that David was to go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19 So David went up at the word of Gad, which he spoke in the name of the Lord. 20 Now Ornan turned back and saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. And Ornan was threshing wheat. 21 As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out from the threshing floor and prostrated himself to David with his face to the ground. 22 Then David said to Ornan, “Give me the [i]site of this threshing floor, so that I may build on it an altar to the Lord; you shall give it to me for the full price, so that the plague may be brought to a halt from the people.” 23 But Ornan said to David, “Take it for yourself, and may my lord the king do what is good in his sight. See, I am giving the oxen for burnt offerings, and the threshing sledges for wood and the wheat for the grain offering; I am giving it all.” 24 Nevertheless, King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will certainly buy it for the full price; for I will not take what is yours for the Lord, nor offer a burnt offering [j]which costs me nothing.” 25 So (P)David gave Ornan six hundred shekels of gold by weight for the [k]site. 26 Then David built an altar there to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. And he called to the Lord, and (Q)He answered him with fire from heaven on the altar of burnt offering. 27 The Lord commanded the angel, and he returned his sword to its sheath.
28 At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he offered sacrifice there. 29 (R)For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were on the high place at Gibeon at that time. 30 But David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was terrified by the sword of the angel of the Lord.
