9 Разве я не свободен? Разве я не посланник Масиха? Разве я не видел нашего Повелителя Ису? Разве ваше единение с Повелителем – не результат моего служения? 2 Если я для других и не посланник Масиха, то, во всяком случае, для вас я посланник! Ваше единение с Масихом как раз и подтверждает, что я служу как посланник Масиха.
3 Вот мой ответ тем, кто меня осуждает. 4 Разве мы не имеем права получать пищу и питьё? 5 Разве мы не имеем права жениться на верующей женщине, и брать её с собой, как другие посланники Масиха, например, братья Повелителя и Кифа? 6 Или же это только Варнава и я должны сами зарабатывать себе на пропитание? 7 Какой солдат сам оплачивает связанные с воинской службой расходы? Кто, насадив виноградник, потом не ест виноград из него? Кто пасёт стадо и не пьёт молока от него? 8 Разве я говорю всё это, смотря на вещи только с человеческой точки зрения? Разве Закон говорит не о том же? 9 Ведь в Законе Мусы написано: «Не закрывай рта молотящему волу»[a]. Разве только о волах переживает Всевышний? 10 Конечно же, Он говорит это и о нас! Для нас написано: «Пахарь должен пахать, и молотильщик молотить с надеждой на то, что каждый получит свою часть урожая». 11 Если мы посеяли среди вас духовное семя, то разве это будет слишком, если мы пожнём у вас материальный урожай? 12 Если другие имеют право на вашу поддержку, то тем более мы.
Мы, однако, не пользовались этим правом, мы готовы всё переносить ради того, чтобы Радостная Весть Масиха беспрепятственно распространялась. 13 Разве вы не знаете: кто служит в храме, получает пропитание в храме, и кто служит у жертвенника, имеет право на долю от того, что приносится в жертву?[b] 14 Повелитель также дал установление, чтобы те, кто возвещает Радостную Весть, получали за это своё пропитание. 15 Но я не воспользовался ничем подобным, да и теперь я пишу всё это не для того, чтобы вы оказывали мне такую поддержку. Да я готов скорее умереть! Никто не может лишить меня права хвалиться этим. 16 Я не хвалюсь тем, что возвещаю Радостную Весть, это моя обязанность, и горе мне, если я перестану возвещать! 17 Если бы я возвещал Радостную Весть по собственному выбору, то я заслуживал бы вознаграждения, но я лишь исполняю свой долг, неся служение, доверенное мне Всевышним. 18 Так в чём же моё вознаграждение? В том, что, возвещая Радостную Весть, я делаю это безвозмездно и не пользуюсь моими правами проповедника.
19 Хотя я и свободен от всех,[c] я сам сделал себя рабом всех, ради того, чтобы обратить к Всевышнему как можно больше людей. 20 Для иудеев я был как иудей, чтобы привлечь иудеев. Для находящихся под Законом я был как подчиняющийся Закону, хотя на самом деле я не под Законом. Я делал это для того, чтобы обратить находящихся под Законом. 21 Для не имеющих Закона я был как не имеющий Закона, хотя я не свободен от Закона Всевышнего, потому что нахожусь под Законом Масиха. Опять же, я делаю это для того, чтобы обратить ко Всевышнему не имеющих Закона. 22 Для слабых я был слабым, чтобы приобрести и их. Я стал всем для всех ради того, чтобы различными путями спасти как можно больше людей. 23 Всё это я делаю ради Радостной Вести, чтобы и мне получить её благословения.
24 Вы ведь знаете, что в соревновании по бегу много участников, но только один становится победителем. Поэтому бегите так, чтобы получить награду. 25 Каждый участник при подготовке к состязаниям отказывается от всех удовольствий, и делает это ради получения тленного венка. Мы же стремимся к венку нетленному. 26 Поэтому я не бегу бесцельно и не бью кулаками по воздуху. 27 Нет, я тренирую своё тело, подчиняю его себе, чтобы, возвещая Радостную Весть другим, самому не оказаться недостойным награды.

Paul Gives Up His Rights
9 Am I not as free as anyone else? Am I not an apostle? Haven’t I seen Jesus our Lord with my own eyes? Isn’t it because of my work that you belong to the Lord? 2 Even if others think I am not an apostle, I certainly am to you. You yourselves are proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.
3 This is my answer to those who question my authority.[a] 4 Don’t we have the right to live in your homes and share your meals? 5 Don’t we have the right to bring a believing wife[b] with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers do, and as Peter[c] does? 6 Or is it only Barnabas and I who have to work to support ourselves?
7 What soldier has to pay his own expenses? What farmer plants a vineyard and doesn’t have the right to eat some of its fruit? What shepherd cares for a flock of sheep and isn’t allowed to drink some of the milk? 8 Am I expressing merely a human opinion, or does the law say the same thing? 9 For the law of Moses says, “You must not muzzle an ox to keep it from eating as it treads out the grain.”[d] Was God thinking only about oxen when he said this? 10 Wasn’t he actually speaking to us? Yes, it was written for us, so that the one who plows and the one who threshes the grain might both expect a share of the harvest.
11 Since we have planted spiritual seed among you, aren’t we entitled to a harvest of physical food and drink? 12 If you support others who preach to you, shouldn’t we have an even greater right to be supported? But we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ.
13 Don’t you realize that those who work in the temple get their meals from the offerings brought to the temple? And those who serve at the altar get a share of the sacrificial offerings. 14 In the same way, the Lord ordered that those who preach the Good News should be supported by those who benefit from it. 15 Yet I have never used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that I want to start now. In fact, I would rather die than lose my right to boast about preaching without charge. 16 Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!
17 If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust. 18 What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That’s why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News.
19 Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. 20 When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. 21 When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law,[e] I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ.
22 When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. 23 I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.
24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

9 Whether I am not free? Am I not apostle? Whether I saw not Jesus Christ, our Lord? Whether ye be not my work in the Lord?
2 And though to others I am not apostle, but nevertheless to you I am; for ye be the little sign of mine apostlehood [for why ye be the signal, or little sign, of mine apostlehood] in the Lord.
3 My defence to them that ask me, that is. [My defence to them that ask me, is this].
4 Whether we have not power to eat and drink?
5 Whether we have not power to lead about a woman, a sister, as also other apostles, and brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
6 Or I alone and Barnabas have not power to work these things?
7 Who travaileth any time with his own wages? Who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of his fruit? Who keepeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?[a]
8 Whether after man I say these things? whether also the law saith not these things?
9 For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not bind [up] the mouth of the ox that thresheth. Whether of oxen is charge to God?
10 Whether for us he saith these things? For why those be written for us [For why for us they be written]; for he that ploweth, oweth to plow in hope, and he that thresheth, in hope to take fruits.
11 If we sow spiritual things to you, is it great, if we reap your fleshly things?
12 If others be partners of your power, why not rather we? But we use not this power, but we suffer all things, that we give no hindering [that we give no letting] to the evangel of Christ.
13 Know ye not, that they that work in the temple, eat those things that be of the temple [Know ye not, that they that work in the sanctuary, eat those things that be of the sanctuary], and they that serve to the altar, be partners of the altar?
14 So [and] the Lord ordained to them that tell the gospel, to live of the gospel.
15 But I used none of these things; and I wrote not these things, that they be done so in me; for it is good rather for me to die, than that any man should make my rejoicing void [than that any man void my glory].
16 For if I preach the gospel, glory is not to me, for need-like I must do it[b]; for woe to me, if I preach not the gospel.
17 But if I do this thing willfully, I have meed; but if against my will, dispensing is betaken to me. [Forsooth if I willing do this thing, I have meed; soothly if against my will, dispensation is betaken to me.]
18 What then is my meed? That I preaching the gospel, put the gospel without others' cost, that I use not my power in the gospel.[c]
19 For why when I was free of all men, I made me servant of all men, to win the more men [that I should win more men].
20 And to Jews I am made as a Jew, to win the Jews [that I should win Jews]; to them that be under the law, as I were under the law, when I was not under the law, to win them that were under the law [that I should win them that were under the law];
21 to them that were without law, as I were without law, when I was not without [the] law of God, but I was in the law of Christ, to win them that were without law [that I should win them that were without law].
22 I am made frail to frail men, to win frail men; to all men I am made all things, to make all men safe. [I am made sick to sick men, that I should win sick men; to all men I am made all things, that I should make all men safe.]
23 But I do all things for the gospel, that I [should] be made partner of it.
24 Know ye not, that they that run in a furlong, all run, but one taketh the prize? So run ye, that ye catch.
25 Each man that striveth in fight, abstaineth him from all things; and they [forsooth], that they take a corruptible crown, but we an uncorrupt.
26 Therefore I run so, not as to an uncertain thing; thus I fight, not as beating the air;
27 but I chastise my body, and bring it into servage; lest peradventure when I preach to others [lest peradventure when I have preached to others], I myself be made reprovable.
