Духовные дары

12 Не хочу, братья, чтобы вы пребывали в неведении относительно духовных даров. 2 Вы помните, что когда вы были язычниками, то вас что-то толкало к немым идолам. 3 Итак, поймите, что никто, говорящий по побуждению Духа Всевышнего, не произнесёт проклятия против Исы, и никто не признает, что Иса есть Вечный Повелитель, если к этому его не побудит Святой Дух.

4 Есть различные дары, но все они от одного Духа. 5 Есть разные служения, но все мы служим одному Повелителю. 6 Есть разные действия, но все их производит один и тот же Бог во всех нас.

7 В каждом человеке Дух проявляется на благо общему делу. 8 В словах одного Дух даёт мудрость; в словах другого тот же Дух даёт знание; 9 кому-то тем же Духом даётся вера; кому-то – дары исцелений тем же Духом. 10 Одному – чудодейственные силы; другому – пророчество; третьему – способность различать духов; иному даны разные языки[a], а кому-то – способность толковать сказанное на этих языках. 11 Всё это – действие одного и того же Духа, и этими дарами Он наделяет каждого по Своему усмотрению.

Одно тело и много членов

12 Подобно тому как тело состоит из многих органов, составляющих в совокупности одно тело, так же и с телом Масиха. 13 Мы все погружены в одного Духа[b], и так стали одним телом, будь мы иудеи или греки, рабы или свободные, мы все напоены одним и тем же Духом. 14 Ведь и тело состоит не из одного органа, а из многих. 15 Представьте себе, что бы произошло, если бы нога вдруг сказала: «Я не принадлежу к телу, так как я не рука!» Конечно, она не перестала бы быть частью тела. 16 Или представьте себе, если бы ухо вдруг сказало: «Я не глаз, и поэтому я к телу не принадлежу!» Оно тоже не перестало бы быть частью тела. 17 Если бы всё тело состояло из одного глаза, то где был бы слух? Если бы всё тело состояло из уха, то где было бы обоняние? 18 Но Всевышний каждому органу определил своё назначение в теле, как Он Сам того пожелал. 19 Как тело могло бы существовать, если бы целиком состояло из одного органа? 20 Так что органов много, но все они составляют одно тело. 21 И глаз не может сказать руке: «Ты мне не нужна!» Голова не может сказать ногам: «Я в вас не нуждаюсь!» 22 Наоборот, те части тела, которые нам кажутся слабее других, на самом деле являются самыми необходимыми. 23 К тем частям тела, которые, по нашему мнению, не заслуживают такой уж большой чести, мы относимся с большей заботой, 24 и те органы, которые считаются неприличными, мы тщательнейшим образом прикрываем, тогда как приличные органы в этом не нуждаются. Но Всевышний Сам устроил тело таким образом и внушил нам, чтобы о самых «неблагородных» частях тела мы проявляли больше заботы, 25 чтобы в теле не было разделения, но чтобы все части тела проявляли одинаковую заботу друг о друге. 26 Если страдает один орган, то с ним страдают и все прочие, если прославляется один орган, с ним радуются и все остальные.

27 Итак, вы – тело Масиха, и каждый из вас – орган в Его теле. 28 Во вселенской общине верующих[c] Всевышний назначил одних быть посланниками Масиха, других – пророками, третьих – учителями. Он наделил некоторых силой совершать чудеса, других – дарами исцелений, одним дал дар помощи нуждающимся, другим – дар управления, а иным – разные языки. 29 Разве все посланники Масиха? Разве все пророки? Разве все учители? Разве все совершают чудеса? 30 Разве все имеют дары исцелений? Разве все говорят языками? Разве всем дано толковать эти языки? 31 Стремитесь иметь более важные дары!

Но сейчас я покажу вам самый превосходный путь.

12 Братья и сёстры, теперь же я расскажу о духовных дарах. Я не хочу, чтобы вы пребывали в невежестве. 2 Помните, когда вы были неверующими, вы поддавались влиянию тех, кто убеждал вас служить безжизненным идолам?! 3 И потому я говорю вам, что никто ведомый Божьим Духом, не скажет: «Будь проклят Иисус», и никто не сможет сказать: «Иисус—Господь», кроме как с помощью Святого Духа.

4 Есть разные духовные дары, но все они от одного и того же Духа. 5 Существуют разные служения, но все мы служим одному Господу. 6 Бог по-разному действует в людях, но Бог—один, производящий всё во всех.

7 Различные дары Духа даны каждому для всеобщего блага. 8 Одному человеку Дух дал слово божественной мудрости, другому—слово божественного знания. 9 Ещё кому-то этим же Духом дана вера, а другому—дар исцеления. 10 Одному человеку Дух дал способность творить чудеса, а иному—способность пророчествовать, а третьему—способность различать, что дано Духом, а что нет. Дух наделяет одних людей способностью говорить на разных языках, а других—способностью толковать эти языки. 11 Но один и тот же Дух творит всё это, наделяя каждого в отдельности, как считает нужным.

Тело Христово

12 У каждого из нас есть тело со многими членами, и всё же все эти члены составляют одно тело, так же как и Христос. 13 Потому что одним Духом все мы были крещены, чтобы стать частями одного тела: иудеи и язычники, рабы и свободные люди—всем нам было дано одного и того же Духа[a].

14 Человеческое тело состоит не из одного члена, а из многих. 15 Даже если нога говорит: «Если я не рука, то не принадлежу телу», то по этой причине она не перестанет принадлежать телу. 16 И если ухо говорит: «Если я не глаз, то не принадлежу телу», то по этой причине оно не перестанет принадлежать телу. 17 И если бы тело состояло только из глаз, где был бы слух? И если бы тело состояло только из ушей, то где было бы обоняние? 18 Но в самом деле Бог поместил каждый член в теле так, как считал нужным. 19 Если бы все члены были одни и те же, то где было бы тело? 20 На самом же деле, членов много, а тело—одно.

21 Глаз не может сказать руке: «Я не нуждаюсь в тебе», или, чтобы привести другой пример, голова не может сказать ногам: «Я не нуждаюсь в вас». 22 Напротив, те части тела, которые мы считаем слабее, жизненно необходимы. 23 С теми частями тела, которые мы считаем наименее важными, мы обращаемся с наибольшей осторожностью. И с непристойными частями тела мы обращаемся с большей стыдливостью, 24 в то время как пристойные части не нуждаются в этом. 27 Итак, вы вместе—тело Христово и каждый в отдельности—часть этого тела. 28 Более того, одних Бог поставил в церкви апостолами, других—пророками, третьих—учителями. Кроме того, одни творят чудеса, а другие обладают даром исцеления, одни помогают ближним, другие обладают даром вести за собой, а иные—даром говорить на разных языках. 29 Ведь не всем же быть апостолами, пророками, учителями или чудотворцами. 30 Не все являются целителями, не все обладают даром говорить на разных языках или толковать их. 31 Но всегда стремитесь к более важным духовным дарам. И сейчас я укажу вам лучший жизненный путь.

Spiritual Gifts

12 Now, dear brothers and sisters,[a] regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this. 2 You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols. 3 So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

4 There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice[b]; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.[c] 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages,[d] while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said. 11 It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.

One Body with Many Parts

12 The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. 13 Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles,[e] some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.[f]

14 Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. 15 If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?

18 But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. 19 How strange a body would be if it had only one part! 20 Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21 The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.”

22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. 23 And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, 24 while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. 25 This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. 26 If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:

first are apostles,
second are prophets,
third are teachers,
then those who do miracles,
those who have the gift of healing,
those who can help others,
those who have the gift of leadership,
those who speak in unknown languages.

29 Are we all apostles? Are we all prophets? Are we all teachers? Do we all have the power to do miracles? 30 Do we all have the gift of healing? Do we all have the ability to speak in unknown languages? Do we all have the ability to interpret unknown languages? Of course not! 31 So you should earnestly desire the most helpful gifts.

But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.

2 For ye know, that when ye were heathen men, how ye were led going to dumb maumets. [Soothly ye know, for when ye were heathen men, as ye were led going to dumb simulacra.]

3 Therefore I make known to you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God, saith parting from Jesus; and no man may say the Lord Jesus [is], but in the Holy Ghost.

4 And diverse graces there be, but it is all one Spirit [but the same Spirit is];

5 and diverse services there be, but it is all one Lord; [and partings of servings be, but the same Lord is;]

6 and diverse workings there be, but it is all one God [and partings of workings be, but the same God is], that worketh all things in all things.

7 And to each man the showing of Spirit is given to profit.

8 And the word of wisdom is given to one by Spirit [To another forsooth by Spirit the word of wisdom is given]; to another the word of knowing, by the same Spirit;

9 faith to another, in the same Spirit; to another, grace of healings[a], in one Spirit;

10 to another, the working of works of power; to another, prophecy; to another, very knowing of spirits; to another, kinds of languages; to another, expounding of words. [to another, the working of virtues; to another, prophecy; to another, discretion, or very knowing, of spirits; to another, kinds of tongues, or languages; to another, interpreting, or expounding, of words.]

11 And one and the same Spirit worketh all these things [Forsooth all these things one and the same Spirit worketh], parting to each by themselves as he will.

12 For as there is one body, and hath many members, and all the members of the body when those be many [when they be many], be one body, so also Christ.

13 For in one Spirit all we be baptized into one body, either Jews, either heathen, either servants, either free; and all we be filled with drink in one Spirit. [And soothly in one Spirit all we be baptized into one body, either Jews, or heathen, or servants, or free; and all we have drunk in one Spirit.]

14 For the body is not one member, but many.

15 If the foot shall say, For I am not the hand, I am not of the body; not therefore it is not of the body [not therefore is it not of the body(?)].

16 And if the ear saith [And if the ear shall say], For I am not the eye, I am not of the body; not therefore it is not of the body [not therefore is it not of the body(?)].

17 If all the body is the eye [If all the body were the eye], where is [the] hearing? and if all the body is hearing, where is [the] smelling?

18 But now God hath set members, and each of them in the body, as he would.

19 And if all were one member, where were the body?

20 But now there be many members, but one body.

21 And the eye may not say to the hand [Forsooth the eye shall not be able to say to the hand], I have no need to thy works; or again the head to the feet, Ye be not necessary to me.

22 But much more those that be seen to be the lower members of the body [But much more those that be seen to be more sick, or lower, members of the body], be more needful;

23 and those that we guess to be the unworthier members of the body, to them we give more honour; and those members that be unseemly, have more seemliness.[b]

24 For our seemly members have need of none; but God tempered the body, giving more honour to it, to whom it failed, [Forsooth our honest members of none have need; but God tempered the body, giving more worship to it, to whom it failed,]

25 that debate be not in the body, but that the members be busy into the same thing each for other [but that the members be busy into the same thing for each other].

26 And if one member suffereth any thing [And if one member suffer any thing], all members suffer therewith; either if one member joyeth [either if one member glorieth], all members joy together.

27 And ye be the body of Christ, and members of member. [Forsooth ye be the body of Christ, and members of members.]

28 But God set some men in the church, first apostles, the second time prophets [And soothly God put some in the church, first apostles, the second prophets], the third teachers, afterward works of power, afterward graces of healings, helpings, governings, kinds of languages, interpretations of words.

29 Whether all [be] apostles? whether all [be] prophets? Whether all teachers? whether all works of power?

30 whether all have grace of healings? whether all speak with languages? whether all expound [whether all interpret, or expound]?

31 But follow ye the better ghostly gifts. And yet I show to you a more excellent way.

Concerning Spiritual Gifts

12 Now about the gifts of the Spirit,(A) brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.(B) 2 You know that when you were pagans,(C) somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.(D) 3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,”(E) and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,”(F) except by the Holy Spirit.(G)

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit(H) distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone(I) it is the same God(J) at work.

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.(K) 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,(L) to another a message of knowledge(M) by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith(N) by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing(O) by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers,(P) to another prophecy,(Q) to another distinguishing between spirits,(R) to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,[a](S) and to still another the interpretation of tongues.[b] 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,(T) and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Unity and Diversity in the Body

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body,(U) so it is with Christ.(V) 13 For we were all baptized(W) by[c] one Spirit(X) so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free(Y)—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.(Z) 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.(AA)

15 Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? 18 But in fact God has placed(AB) the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.(AC) 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body.(AD)

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

27 Now you are the body of Christ,(AE) and each one of you is a part of it.(AF) 28 And God has placed in the church(AG) first of all apostles,(AH) second prophets,(AI) third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing,(AJ) of helping, of guidance,(AK) and of different kinds of tongues.(AL) 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues[d]?(AM) Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire(AN) the greater gifts.

Love Is Indispensable

And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
