8 In quei giorni, essendovi una folla grandissima e non avendo da mangiare, Gesú chiamò a sé i suoi discepoli, e disse loro:
2 «Ho pietà di questa folla, perché sono già tre giorni che stanno con me, e non hanno di che mangiare.
3 E se io li rimando digiuni a casa, verranno meno per via; alcuni di loro, infatti, sono venuti da lontano».
4 E i suoi discepoli gli risposero: «Come potrebbe alcuno saziare di pane costoro, qui nel deserto?».
5 Ed egli domandò loro: «Quanti pani avete?». Essi dissero: «Sette».
6 Allora egli ordinò alla folla di sedere per terra; e presi i sette pani, rese grazie, li spezzò e li diede ai suoi discepoli, perché li distribuissero alla folla; ed essi li distribuirono.
7 Avevano pure alcuni pesciolini, dopo averli benedetti, ordinò che anche quelli fossero distribuiti alla folla.
8 Cosí essi mangiarono a sazietà; e i discepoli portarono via sette panieri di pezzi avanzati.
9 Or quelli che avevano mangiato erano circa quattromila; poi li licenziò.
10 E subito, salito in barca con i suoi discepoli, andò dalle parti di Dalmanuta.
11 Sopraggiunsero i farisei e cominciarono a discutere con lui, chiedendogli un segno dal cielo per metterlo alla prova.
12 Ma egli, gemendo nel suo spirito, disse: «Perché questa generazione chiede un segno? In verità vi dico che non sarà dato alcun segno a questa generazione».
13 Quindi lasciatili, salí di nuovo in barca e passò all'altra riva.
14 Ora i discepoli avevano dimenticato di prendere del pane e non avevano con sé nella barca che un pane solo.
15 Ed egli li ammoniva, dicendo: «State attenti, guardatevi dal lievito dei farisei e dal lievito di Erode!».
16 Ma essi discutevano fra di loro dicendo: «Noi non abbiamo pane».
17 Accortosene, Gesú disse loro: «Perché discutete sul fatto che non avete pane? Non capite ancora e non intendete? Avete il vostro cuore ancora indurito?
18 Avete occhi e non vedete, avete orecchi e non udite? E non vi ricordate?
19 Quando spezzai i cinque pani per i cinquemila, quante ceste piene di pezzi avete raccolto?». Essi dissero: «Dodici».
20 «E quando spezzai i sette pani per i quattromila, quanti panieri pieni di pezzi raccoglieste?». Ed essi dissero: «Sette».
21 Ed egli disse loro: «Come, ancora non capite?».
22 Poi venne a Betsaida; e gli portarono un cieco, pregandolo di toccarlo.
23 Allora preso il cieco per mano, lo condusse fuori dal villaggio e, dopo avergli sputato sugli occhi e impostegli le mani, gli domandò se vedesse qualcosa.
24 E quegli, alzando gli occhi, disse: «Vedo gli uomini camminare e mi sembrano alberi».
25 Allora gli pose di nuovo le mani sugli occhi e lo fece guardare in alto; ed egli recuperò la vista e vedeva tutti chiaramente.
26 E Gesú lo rimandò a casa sua, dicendo: «Non entrare nel villaggio e non dirlo ad alcuno nel villaggio».
27 Poi Gesú con i suoi discepoli, se ne andò per le borgate di Cesarea di Filippo; e lungo il cammino interrogò i suoi discepoli, dicendo loro: «Chi dice la gente che io sia?».
28 Essi risposero: «Alcuni Giovanni Battista, altri Elia, ed altri uno dei profeti».
29 Ed egli disse loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». E Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: «Tu sei il Cristo».
30 Allora egli intimò loro severamente di non parlare di lui ad alcuno.
31 Poi cominciò a insegnare loro che era necessario che il Figlio dell'uomo soffrisse molte cose, fosse riprovato dagli anziani dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi e fosse ucciso, e dopo tre giorni risuscitasse.
32 E parlava di queste cose apertamente. Allora Pietro, lo prese in disparte e cominciò a riprenderlo.
33 Ma egli, voltatosi e riguardando i suoi discepoli, sgridò Pietro, dicendo: «Vattene lontano da me, Satana, perché tu non hai il senso delle cose di Dio, ma delle cose degli uomini».
34 Poi chiamata a sé la folla con i suoi discepoli, disse loro: «Chiunque vuol venire dietro a me rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua
35 perché chiunque vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per amor mio e dell'evangelo, la salverà.
36 Che gioverà infatti all'uomo guadagnare il mondo intero, se poi perde l'anima sua?
37 O che cosa potrebbe dare l'uomo in cambio dell'anima sua?
38 Perché chi si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, in mezzo a questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, anche il Figlio dell'uomo si vergognerà di lui, quando verrà nella gloria del Padre suo, con i santi angeli».

2 σπλαγχνιζομαι επι τον οχλον οτι ηδη ημερας τρεις προσμενουσιν μοι και ουκ εχουσιν τι φαγωσιν
3 και εαν απολυσω αυτους νηστεις εις οικον αυτων εκλυθησονται εν τη οδω τινες γαρ αυτων μακροθεν ηκασιν
4 και απεκριθησαν αυτω οι μαθηται αυτου ποθεν τουτους δυνησεται τις ωδε χορτασαι αρτων επ ερημιας
5 και επηρωτα αυτους ποσους εχετε αρτους οι δε ειπον επτα
6 και παρηγγειλεν τω οχλω αναπεσειν επι της γης και λαβων τους επτα αρτους ευχαριστησας εκλασεν και εδιδου τοις μαθηταις αυτου ινα παραθωσιν και παρεθηκαν τω οχλω
7 και ειχον ιχθυδια ολιγα και ευλογησας ειπεν παραθειναι και αυτα
8 εφαγον δε και εχορτασθησαν και ηραν περισσευματα κλασματων επτα σπυριδας
9 ησαν δε οι φαγοντες ως τετρακισχιλιοι και απελυσεν αυτους
10 και ευθεως εμβας εις το πλοιον μετα των μαθητων αυτου ηλθεν εις τα μερη δαλμανουθα
11 και εξηλθον οι φαρισαιοι και ηρξαντο συζητειν αυτω ζητουντες παρ αυτου σημειον απο του ουρανου πειραζοντες αυτον
12 και αναστεναξας τω πνευματι αυτου λεγει τι η γενεα αυτη σημειον επιζητει αμην λεγω υμιν ει δοθησεται τη γενεα ταυτη σημειον
13 και αφεις αυτους εμβας παλιν εις το πλοιον απηλθεν εις το περαν
14 και επελαθοντο οι μαθηται λαβειν αρτους και ει μη ενα αρτον ουκ ειχον μεθ εαυτων εν τω πλοιω
15 και διεστελλετο αυτοις λεγων ορατε βλεπετε απο της ζυμης των φαρισαιων και της ζυμης ηρωδου
16 και διελογιζοντο προς αλληλους λεγοντες οτι αρτους ουκ εχομεν
17 και γνους ο ιησους λεγει αυτοις τι διαλογιζεσθε οτι αρτους ουκ εχετε ουπω νοειτε ουδε συνιετε ετι πεπωρωμενην εχετε την καρδιαν υμων
18 οφθαλμους εχοντες ου βλεπετε και ωτα εχοντες ουκ ακουετε και ου μνημονευετε
19 οτε τους πεντε αρτους εκλασα εις τους πεντακισχιλιους ποσους κοφινους πληρεις κλασματων ηρατε λεγουσιν αυτω δωδεκα
20 οτε δε τους επτα εις τους τετρακισχιλιους ποσων σπυριδων πληρωματα κλασματων ηρατε οι δε ειπον επτα
21 και ελεγεν αυτοις πως ου συνιετε
22 και ερχεται εις βηθσαιδα και φερουσιν αυτω τυφλον και παρακαλουσιν αυτον ινα αυτου αψηται
23 και επιλαβομενος της χειρος του τυφλου εξηγαγεν αυτον εξω της κωμης και πτυσας εις τα ομματα αυτου επιθεις τας χειρας αυτω επηρωτα αυτον ει τι βλεπει
24 και αναβλεψας ελεγεν βλεπω τους ανθρωπους ως δενδρα περιπατουντας
25 ειτα παλιν επεθηκεν τας χειρας επι τους οφθαλμους αυτου και εποιησεν αυτον αναβλεψαι και αποκατεσταθη και ενεβλεψεν τηλαυγως απαντας
26 και απεστειλεν αυτον εις τον οικον αυτου λεγων μηδε εις την κωμην εισελθης μηδε ειπης τινι εν τη κωμη
27 και εξηλθεν ο ιησους και οι μαθηται αυτου εις τας κωμας καισαρειας της φιλιππου και εν τη οδω επηρωτα τους μαθητας αυτου λεγων αυτοις τινα με λεγουσιν οι ανθρωποι ειναι
28 οι δε απεκριθησαν ιωαννην τον βαπτιστην και αλλοι ηλιαν αλλοι δε ενα των προφητων
29 και αυτος λεγει αυτοις υμεις δε τινα με λεγετε ειναι αποκριθεις δε ο πετρος λεγει αυτω συ ει ο χριστος
30 και επετιμησεν αυτοις ινα μηδενι λεγωσιν περι αυτου
31 και ηρξατο διδασκειν αυτους οτι δει τον υιον του ανθρωπου πολλα παθειν και αποδοκιμασθηναι απο των πρεσβυτερων και αρχιερεων και γραμματεων και αποκτανθηναι και μετα τρεις ημερας αναστηναι
32 και παρρησια τον λογον ελαλει και προσλαβομενος αυτον ο πετρος ηρξατο επιτιμαν αυτω
33 ο δε επιστραφεις και ιδων τους μαθητας αυτου επετιμησεν τω πετρω λεγων υπαγε οπισω μου σατανα οτι ου φρονεις τα του θεου αλλα τα των ανθρωπων
34 και προσκαλεσαμενος τον οχλον συν τοις μαθηταις αυτου ειπεν αυτοις οστις θελει οπισω μου ελθειν απαρνησασθω εαυτον και αρατω τον σταυρον αυτου και ακολουθειτω μοι
35 ος γαρ αν θελη την ψυχην αυτου σωσαι απολεσει αυτην ος δ αν απολεση την ψυχην αυτου ενεκεν εμου και του ευαγγελιου ουτος σωσει αυτην
36 τι γαρ ωφελησει ανθρωπον εαν κερδηση τον κοσμον ολον και ζημιωθη την ψυχην αυτου
37 η τι δωσει ανθρωπος ανταλλαγμα της ψυχης αυτου
38 ος γαρ αν επαισχυνθη με και τους εμους λογους εν τη γενεα ταυτη τη μοιχαλιδι και αμαρτωλω και ο υιος του ανθρωπου επαισχυνθησεται αυτον οταν ελθη εν τη δοξη του πατρος αυτου μετα των αγγελων των αγιων

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(A)(B)(C)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(D) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(E) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(F) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(G) 12 He sighed deeply(H) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(I) of the Pharisees(J) and that of Herod.”(K)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(L) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(M) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(N)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(O)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(P) and some people brought a blind man(Q) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(R) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(S) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(U) others say Elijah;(V) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(W)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(X)
Jesus Predicts His Death(Y)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(Z) must suffer many things(AA) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AB) and that he must be killed(AC) and after three days(AD) rise again.(AE) 32 He spoke plainly(AF) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(AG) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Way of the Cross
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AH) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(AI) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(AJ) will be ashamed of them(AK) when he comes(AL) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
