33 وَأَوْحَى إِلَيَّ الرَّبُّ قَائِلاً: 2 «يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، خَاطِبْ أَبْنَاءَ إِسْرَائِيلَ وَقُلْ لَهُمْ: إِذَا جَلَبْتُ سَيْفاً عَلَى أَرْضٍ كَانَ أَهْلُهَا قَدْ أَقَامُوا لَهُمْ رَقِيباً مِنْ بَيْنِهِمْ. 3 فَإِذَا رَأَى الأَعْدَاءَ مُقْبِلِينَ لِمُهَاجَمَةِ الأَرْضِ، فَنَفَخَ بِالْبُوقِ تَحْذِيراً لِلشَّعْبِ، 4 فَمَنْ يَسْمَعُ دَوِيَّ الْبُوقِ وَلا يَحْتَرِسُ، ثُمَّ أَتَى السَّيْفُ وَقَتَلَهُ، فَدَمُهُ يَقَعُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ. 5 لأَنَّهُ سَمِعَ دَوِيَّ الْبُوقِ وَلَمْ يَحْتَرِسْ. لِهَذَا يَكُونُ دَمُهُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، إِذْ لَوِ احْتَرَسَ لأَنْقَذَ نَفْسَهُ. 6 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ رَأَى الرَّقِيبُ الْعَدُوَّ مُقْبِلاً وَلَمْ يَنْفُخْ بِالْبُوقِ، فَلَمْ يَحْتَرِسِ الشَّعْبُ، فَأَقْدَمَ الْعَدُوُّ وَقَتَلَ نَفْساً مِنْهُمْ، فَالْقَتِيلُ قَدْ لاقَى حَتْفَهُ جَزَاءَ ذَنْبِهِ، أَمَّا دَمُهُ فَمِنْ يَدِ الرَّقِيبِ أَطْلُبُهُ.
7 وَأَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، قَدْ أَقَمْتُكَ رَقِيباً لِشَعْبِ إِسْرَائِيلَ، فَتَسْمَعُ قَضَائِي، وَتُحَذِّرُهُمْ مِنْ قِبَلِي. 8 إِنْ قُلْتُ لِلشِّرِّيرِ: يَا شِرِّيرُ إِنَّكَ حَتْماً تَمُوتُ مِنْ أَجْلِ شَرِّكَ، وَلَمْ تَعْمَدْ إِلَى تَحْذِيرِهِ مِنْ طَرِيقِهِ، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ الشِّرِّيرَ يَمُوتُ بِذَنْبِهِ، أَمَّا دَمُهُ فَمِنْ يَدِكَ أَطْلُبُهُ. 9 وَلَكِنْ إِنْ حَذَّرْتَ الشِّرِّيرَ لِيَرْتَدِعَ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ فَأَبَى فَهُوَ يَمُوتُ بِذَنْبِهِ، أَمَّا أَنْتَ فَتَكُونُ قَدْ خَلَّصْتَ نَفْسَكَ. 10 وَأَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، قُلْ لِشَعْبِ إِسْرَائِيلَ: أَنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ: حَقّاً إِنَّ مَعَاصِينَا وَخَطَايَانَا وَاقِعَةٌ عَلَيْنَا، وَبِهَا نَحْنُ هَالِكُونَ، فَكَيْفَ إِذاً نَحْيَا؟ 11 قُلْ لَهُمْ: حَيٌّ أَنَا يَقُولُ السَّيِّدُ الرَّبُّ، إِنِّي لَا أَبْتَهِجُ بِمَوْتِ الشِّرِّيرِ بَلْ بِأَنْ يَرْتَدِعَ عَنْ غِيِّهِ وَيَحْيَا. ارْجِعُوا، ارْجِعُوا عَنْ طُرُقِكُمِ الرَّدِيئَةِ! لِمَاذَا تَمُوتُونَ يَا شَعْبَ إِسْرَائِيلَ؟ 12 وَأَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، قُلْ لأَبْنَاءِ شَعْبِكَ: لَا يَنْجُو الْبَارُّ بِبِرِّهِ فِي يَوْمِ مَعْصِيَتِهِ، وَلا يَعْثُرُ الشِّرِّيرُ بِشَرِّهِ فِي يَوْمِ تَوْبَتِهِ. كَذَلِكَ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُ الْبَارُّ أَنْ يَحْيَا بِبِرِّهِ فِي يَوْمِ اقْتِرَافِهِ لِخَطِيئَتِهِ. 13 وَإِنْ قُلْتَ لِلْبَارِّ إِنَّكَ لَا مَحَالَةَ تَحْيَا، فَاعْتَمَدَ عَلَى بِرِّهِ وَأَثِمَ، فَإِنَّ بِرَّهُ كُلَّهُ لَا يُذْكَرُ لَهُ، بَلْ يَمُوتُ بِمَا ارْتَكَبَ مِنْ إِثْمٍ. 14 وَإذَا قُلْتَ لِلشِّرِّيرِ إِنَّكَ لَا مَحَالَةَ مَائِتٌ: فَارْتَدَعَ عَنْ خَطِيئَتِهِ وَمَارَسَ الْعَدْلَ وَالْحَقَّ، 15 وَرَدَّ الرَّهْنَ، وَعَوَّضَ عَمَّا اغْتَصَبَهُ، وَسَلَكَ فِي الْفَرَائِضِ الَّتِي تُؤَمِّنُ لَهُ الْحَيَاةَ، مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَرْتَكِبَ إِثْماً، فَإِنَّهُ لَا مَحَالَةَ يَحْيَا وَلا يَمُوتُ فِي خَطَايَاهُ، 16 وَلا تُذْكَرُ كُلُّ خَطِيئَةٍ ارْتَكَبَهَا، لأَنَّهُ عَادَ فَمَارَسَ الْعَدْلَ وَالْحَقَّ. إِنَّهُ حَيَاةً يَحْيَا! 17 وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ يَدَّعِي أَبْنَاءُ شَعْبِكَ أَنَّ طَرِيقَ الرَّبِّ مُعْوَجَّةٌ. بَلْ إِنَّ طَرِيقَهُمْ هُمْ هِيَ الْمُعْوَجَّةُ. 18 فَعِنْدَ ارْتِدَادِ الْبَارِّ عَنْ بِرِّهِ وَارْتِكَابِهِ الإِثْمَ فَإِنَّهُ بِهِ يَمُوتُ. 19 وَعِنْدَ ارْتِدَاعِ الشِّرِّيرِ عَنْ غِيِّهِ، وَمُمَارَسَتِهِ الْعَدْلَ وَالْحَقَّ، فَإِنَّهُ بِهِمَا يَحْيَا. 20 وَأَنْتُمْ مَعَ ذَلِكَ تَقُولُونَ إِنَّ طَرِيقَ الرَّبِّ مُعْوَجَّةٌ. إِنَّنِي أَدِينُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ بِمُقْتَضَى طُرُقِهِ يَا شَعْبَ إِسْرَائِيلَ».
تفسير سقوط أورشليم
21 وَفِي الْيَوْمِ الْخَامِسِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ الْعَاشِرِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ عَشْرَةَ مِنْ سَبْيِنَا، أَقْبَلَ إِلَيَّ نَاجٍ مِنْ أُورُشَلِيمَ وَقَالَ: «قَدْ تَمَّ تَدْمِيرُ الْمَدِينَةِ». 22 وَكَانَتْ يَدُ الرَّبِّ عَلَيَّ فِي الْمَسَاءِ قُبَيْلَ مَجِيءِ النَّاجِي، وَفَتَحَ الرَّبُّ فَمِي فِي الصَّبَاحِ عِنْدَ وُصُولِهِ، فَانْفَكَّتْ عُقْدَةُ لِسَانِي وَلَمْ أَعُدْ أَبْكَمَ. 23 فَأَوْحَى إِلَيَّ الرَّبُّ بِكَلِمَتِهِ قَائِلاً: 24 «يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ، إِنَّ الْمُقِيمِينَ فِي خَرَائِبِ أَرْضِ إِسْرَائِيلَ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ كَانَ فَرْداً وَاحِداً وَمَعَ ذَلِكَ وَرِثَ الأَرْضَ، وَهَكَذَا نَحْنُ كَثِيرُونَ، وَقَدْ وُهِبَتْ لَنَا الأَرْضُ مِيرَاثاً. 25 لِذَلِكَ قُلْ لَهُمْ: أَتَأْكُلُونَ اللَّحْمَ بِالدَّمِ وَتَتَعَلَّقُ عُيُونُكُمْ بِأَصْنَامِكُمْ وَتَسْفِكُونَ الدَّمَ، ثُمَّ تَرِثُونَ الأَرْضَ؟ 26 اعْتَمَدْتُمْ عَلَى سُيُوفِكُمْ، وَارْتَكَبْتُمُ الْمُوبِقَاتِ، وَزَنَى كُلٌّ مِنْكُمْ مَعَ امْرَأَةِ صَاحِبِهِ. فَهَلْ تَرِثُونَ الأَرْضَ؟ 27 قُلْ لَهُمْ، هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ السَّيِّدُ الرَّبُّ: حَيٌّ أَنَا، إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ فِي الْخَرَائِبِ يُقْتَلُونَ بِالسَّيْفِ، وَالَّذِينَ يَسْكُنُونَ فِي الْعَرَاءِ أَبْذِلُهُمْ قُوتاً لِلْوُحُوشِ، وَالْمُتَمَنِّعُونَ فِي الْحُصُونِ وَالْمَغَاوِرِ يَمُوتُونَ بِالْوَبَاءِ. 28 فَأَجْعَلُ الأَرْضَ أَطْلالاً مُقْفِرَةً وَتَبْطُلُ كِبْرِيَاءُ عِزَّتِهَا، وَتُصْبِحُ جِبَالُ إِسْرَائِيلَ جَرْدَاءَ لَا يَجْتَازُ بِها عَابِرٌ. 29 فَيُدْرِكُونَ أَنِّي أَنَا الرَّبُّ حِينَ أَجْعَلُ الأَرْضَ خَرِبَةً مُقْفِرَةً مِنْ جَرَّاءِ مَا ارْتَكَبُوهُ مِنْ رَجَاسَاتٍ.
30 أَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ فَإِنَّ أَبْنَاءَ شَعْبِكَ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ عَنْكَ بِجُوَارِ الْجُدْرَانِ وَفِي مَدَاخِلِ أَبْوَابِ الْبُيُوتِ، وَيُخَاطِبُ أَحَدُهُمُ الآخَرَ، وَالرَّجُلُ أَخَاهُ قَائِلِينَ: هَيَّا تَعَالَوْا اسْمَعُوا كَلامَ الْوَحْيِ الصَّادِرِ مِنْ عِنْدِ الرَّبِّ. 31 وَيُقْبِلُونَ إِلَيْكَ مِثْلَ سَائِرِ الشَّعْبِ وَيَجْلِسُونَ فِي حَضْرَتِكَ نَظِيرَ شَعْبِي، وَيُصْغُونَ إِلَى كَلامِكَ وَلا يَعْمَلُونَ بِهِ. إِنَّهُمْ يُعْرِبُونَ عَنْ أَشْوَاقِهِمْ بِكَلامِهِمْ، أَمَّا قَلْبُهُمْ فَقَدْ غَوَى وَرَاءَ مَكْسَبِهِمْ. 32 وَهَا أَنْتَ لَهُمْ كَقَصِيدَةِ حُبٍّ يَتَغَنَّى بِها ذُو صَوْتٍ عَذْبٍ، يُحْسِنُ الْعَزْفَ، فَيُصْغُونَ إِلَى كَلامِكَ وَلا يَعْمَلُونَ بِهِ. 33 وَإذَا تَحَقَّقَ هَذَا، وَهُوَ لابُدَّ أَنْ يَتِمَّ، يُدْرِكُونَ أَنَّ نَبِيًّا كَانَ بَيْنَهُمْ».

33 La parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:
2 «Figlio d'uomo, parla ai figli del tuo popolo e di' loro: Quando farò venire la spada contro un paese e il popolo di quel paese prende un uomo dai suoi confini e lo pone come sentinella,
3 se vede la spada venire contro il paese, e suona la tromba e avverte il popolo,
4 chiunque ode il suono della tromba e non fa caso all'avvertimento, se la spada viene e lo porta via, il suo sangue sarà sul suo capo.
5 Egli ha udito il suono della tromba, ma non ha fatto caso all'avvertimento, il suo sangue sarà su di lui. Chi invece ha fatto caso all'avvertimento salverà la sua vita
6 Ma se la sentinella vede la spada venire e non suona la tromba per avvertire il popolo, e la spada viene e porta via qualcuno di loro, questi sarà portato via per la propria iniquità, ma del suo sangue chiederò conto alla sentinella.
7 Cosí, o figlio d'uomo, io ti ho stabilito sentinella per la casa d'Israele; perciò ascolta la parola dalla mia bocca e avvertili da parte mia.
8 Quando dico all'empio: "Empio, tu morirai sicuramente" e tu non parli per avvertire l'empio che si allontani dalla sua via, quell'empio morirà per la sua iniquità, ma del suo sangue chiederò conto alla tua mano.
9 Se però tu avverti l'empio che si allontani dalla sua via ed egli non si allontana dalla sua via, egli morirà per la sua iniquità, ma tu salverai la tua anima.
10 Ora tu, figlio d'uomo, di' alla casa d'Israele: Voi dite cosí: "Se le nostre trasgressioni e i nostri peccati sono sopra di noi e a motivo d'essi languiamo, come potremo vivere?"
11 Di' loro: Com'è vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «io non mi compiaccio della morte dell'empio, ma che l'empio si converta dalla sua via e viva; convertitevi, convertitevi dalle vostre vie malvagie. Perché mai dovreste morire, o casa d'Israele?
12 Perciò tu, figlio d'uomo, di' ai figli del tuo popolo: La giustizia del giusto non lo salverà nel giorno del suo peccato; cosí pure l'empietà dell'empio non lo farà cadere nel giorno in cui si allontanerà dalla sua empietà, e il giusto non potrà vivere per la sua giustizia nel giorno in cui peccherà.
13 Quando dico al giusto che sicuramente vivrà, se confida nella propria giustizia e commette l'iniquità, tutti i suoi atti giusti non saranno piú ricordati, ma morirà per l'iniquità che ha commesso.
14 Quando invece dico all'empio: "Tu morirai sicuramente", se si allontana dal suo peccato e compie ciò che è retto e giusto,
15 se l'empio rende il pegno, restituisce ciò che ha rubato e cammina secondo gli statuti della vita, senza commettere l'iniquità, egli certamente vivrà, non morirà.
16 Nessuno dei peccati da lui commessi sarà piú ricordato contro di lui; egli ha compiuto ciò che è retto e giusto e certamente vivrà.
17 Ma i figli del tuo popolo dicono: "La via del Signore non è giusta" mentre è la loro via che non è giusta.
18 Quando il giusto si allontana dalla sua giustizia e commette l'iniquità, per questo egli morirà.
19 Quando invece l'empio si allontana dalla sua empietà e compie ciò che è retto e giusto, per questo egli vivrà.
20 Tuttavia voi dite: "La via del Signore non è giusta". Io giudicherò ciascuno di voi secondo le sue vie, o casa d'Israele», In occasione della presa di Gerusalemme
21 Nel dodicesimo anno della nostra cattività, il decimo mese, il quinto giorno del mese, avvenne che arrivò da me un fuggiasco da Gerusalemme e mi disse: «La città è presa».
22 La sera prima dell'arrivo del fuggiasco, la mano dell'Eterno si era posata su di me e mi aveva aperto la bocca cosí, quando quello giunse da me al mattino la mia bocca fu aperta e non fui piú muto.
23 La parola dell'Eterno mi fu quindi rivolta, dicendo:
24 «Figlio d'uomo, gli abitanti di quelle rovine nel paese d'Israele dicono: "Abrahamo, era solo ed ebbe il possesso del paese, ma noi siamo molti e il possesso del paese è dato a noi".
25 Perciò di' loro: Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Voi mangiate la carne col sangue, alzate gli occhi verso i vostri idoli versate il sangue e vorreste possedere il paese.
26 Vi appoggiate sulla vostra spada, commettete abominazioni, ciascuno contamina la moglie del proprio vicino e vorreste possedere il paese.
27 Di' loro cosí: dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Com'è vero che io vivo, quelli che stanno fra quelle rovine periranno di spada, quelli che sono in aperta campagna li darò in pasto alle bestie e quelli che sono nelle fortezze e nelle caverne moriranno di peste.
28 Ridurrò il paese a una desolazione e a un deserto, l'orgoglio della sua forza verrà meno e i monti d'Israele saranno cosí desolati che nessuno piú vi passerà.
29 Riconosceranno che io sono l'Eterno, quando avrò ridotto il paese a una desolazione e a un deserto per tutte le abominazioni che hanno commesso.
30 Quanto a te, figlio d'uomo, i figli del tuo popolo parlano di te presso le mura e sulle porte delle case, si parlano l'un l'altro, dicendo ognuno al proprio fratello: "Venite a sentire qual è la parola che viene dall'Eterno"
31 Cosí vengono da te come fa la gente, si siedono davanti a te come il mio popolo e ascoltano le tue parole, ma non le mettono in pratica; con la loro bocca, infatti mostrano tanto amore, ma il loro cuore va dietro al loro ingiusto guadagno.
32 Ecco, tu sei per loro come una canzone d'amore di uno che ha una bella voce e sa suonare bene uno strumento; essi ascoltano le tue parole, ma non le mettono in pratica.
33 Ma quando la cosa avverrà (ed ecco sta per avvenire) riconosceranno che in mezzo a loro c'è stato un profeta».

33 وَأتَتْ إلَيَّ كَلِمَةُ اللهِ: 2 «يَا إنْسَانُ، تَكَلَّمْ إلَى شَعْبِكَ وَقُلْ لَهُمْ: ‹افتَرِضُوا أنِّي أتَيْتُ بِعَدُوٍّ عَلَى أُمَّةٍ، فَاخْتَارَ الشَّعْبُ أحَدَ المُواطِنِينَ لِيَقِفَ حَارِسًا. 3 وَإذْ رَأى العَدُوَّ قَادِمًا، نَفَخَ فِي البُوقِ لِيُحَذِّرَ الشَّعْبَ. 4 فَإنْ سَمِعَ الإنْسَانُ صَوْتَ البُوقِ وَتَجَاهَلَهُ، فَإنَّهُ مَسؤُولٌ عَنْ مَوْتِهِ حِينَ يَأتِيهِ سَيفُ العَدُوِّ. 5 فَقَدْ سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ الإنْسَانُ صَوْتَ تَحْذِيرِ البُوقِ وَتَجَاهَلَهُ، فَهُوَ يَتَحَمَّلُ مَوْتَهُ. فَلَوِ انتَبَهَ لِلتَّحذِيرِ، لَأَنقَذَ نَفْسَهُ.
6 «‹لَكِنْ إنْ رَأى الحَارِسُ العَدُوَّ، وَلَمْ يَضْرِبْ بِالبُوقِ لِلتَّحذِيرِ حَتَّى يَسْمَعَ النَّاسُ فَيَنْتَبِهُونَ، فَإنَّ العَدُوَّ سَيَأْتِي وَيَأْخُذَ حَيَاتَهُمْ. هَؤُلَاءِ النَّاسُ سَيَمُوتُونَ بِسَبَبِ إثمِهِمْ، وَلَكِنِّي سَأُحَمِّلُ الحَارِسَ مَسؤُولِيَّةَ مَوْتِهِمْ.›
7 «يَا إنْسَانُ، جَعَلْتُكَ حَارِسًا لِبَنِي إسْرَائِيلَ. تَسْمَعُ مِنِّي رِسَالَةً، وَتُبَلِّغُهُمْ بِإنذَارِي. 8 فَإنْ حَكَمْتُ عَلَى شِرِّيرٍ وَقُلْتُ لَهُ: ‹سَتَمُوتُ!› وَأنْتَ لَمْ تُنذِرِ ذَلِكَ الشِّرِّيرَ لَيَتُوبَ عَنْ شَرِّهِ فَيَنْجُو، فَإنَّهُ سَيَهْلِكُ بِذَنبِهِ، لَكِنَّنِي سَأُحَمِّلُكَ مَسؤُولِيَةَ هَلَاكِهِ.
9 «أمَّا إنْ أنذَرْتَ ذَلِكَ الشِّرِّيرَ، وَلَمْ يَتُبْ عَنْ شَرِّهِ وَلَمْ يَتَرَاجَعْ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ الرَّدِيءِ، فَإنَّهُ سَيَهْلِكُ بِذَنبِهِ، وَأنْتَ سَتَنْجُو بِنَفْسَكَ.
اللهُ يَطْلُبُ التَّوْبَة
10 «يَا إنْسَانُ قُلْ لِبَيْتِ إسْرَائِيلَ: ‹أنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ: قَدِ ارتَكَبنَا خَطَايَا وَجَرَائِمَ، وَنَحْنُ نَتَعَفَّنُ بِسَبَبِهَا. فَكَيْفَ نَحيَا مِنْ جَدِيدٍ؟ 11 قُلْ لَهُمْ: هَذَا مَا يُعلِنَهُ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ: أنَا لَا أُسَرُّ بِمُوتَ الشِّرِّيرُ، بَلْ بِأنْ يَتُوبَ عَنْ شَرِّهِ فَيَحيَا. يَا بَنِي إسْرَائِيلَ، ارجِعُوا عَنْ طُرُقِكُمُ الشِّرِّيرَةِ كَي لَا تَهْلِكُوا.›
12 «يَا إنْسَانُ، قُلْ لِشَعْبِكَ: بِرُّ الإنْسَانِ البَارِّ لَنْ يُنقِذَهُ حِينَ يَتَرَاجَعُ وَيَعِيشُ فِي الخَطيَّةِ. كَمَا أنَّ شَرَّ الشِّرِّيرِ لَنْ يُسقِطَهُ حِينَ يَتُوبُ عَنْ طُرُقِهِ الشِّرِّيرَةِ. أمَّا البَّارُ فَلَنْ يَنْجُوَ مِنَ العِقَابِ حِينَ يُخطِئُ.
13 «إنْ قُلْتُ لِإنْسَانٍ بَارٍّ: ‹سَتَحيَا!› رُبَّمَا يَظُنُّ أنَّ مَاضِيَهِ الصَّالِحَ سَيُنقِذُهُ، فَيَبْدَأُ بِعَمَلِ شُرُورٍ رَدِيئَةٍ. إنْ حَدَثَ هَذَا، فَإنَّ بِرَّ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلِ لَنْ يُذكَرَ، وَسَيَهْلِكُ بِسَبَبِ الشُّرُّورِ الَّتِي عَمِلَهَا.
14 «فَإنْ حَكَمْتُ عَلَى شِرِّيرٍ وَقُلْتُ لَهُ: ‹سَتَمُوتُ!› فَتَابَ عَنْ خَطِيَّتِهِ، وَأطَاعَ الوَصَايَا وَعَمِلَ الصَلَاحَ – 15 إنْ أرجَعَ الشِّرِّيرُ مَا أخَذَهُ مِنَ المَسَاكِينِ، وَدَفَعَ مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ دُيُونٍ، وَتَوَقَّفَ عَنْ عَمَلِ الشُّرُّورِ، وَسَلَكَ حَسَبَ الشَّرَائِعِ الَّتِي تُعطِي حَيَاةً، فَإنَّهُ سَيَنْجُو وَلَنْ يَهْلِكَ. 16 لَنْ تُحسَبَ ضِدَّهُ خَطَايَاهُ. فَحَيْثُ إنَّهُ بَدَأ يَعْمَلُ مَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ وَعَادِلٌ، فَسَينجُو!»
17 «قَدْ يُقُولُ النَّاسُ: ‹طُرُقُ الرَّبِّ لَيْسَتْ مُسْتَقِيمَةً!› بَلْ طُرُقُهُمْ هُمْ غَيْرُ مُسْتَقِيمَةٍ. 18 فَإنْ تَوَقَّفَ إنْسَانٌ صَالِحٌ عَنِ السُّلُوكِ الصَّحِيحِ، فَبَدَأ يَرْتَكِبُ الشُّرُورَ، فَإنَّهُ سَيَهْلِكُ بِسَبَبِ أعْمَالِهِ الشِّرِّيرَةِ. 19 فَإنْ تَابَ عَنِ الشُّرُّورِ الَّتِي عَمِلَهَا، وَعَمِلَ مَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ وَعَادِلٌ، فَإنَّهُ سَيَحيَا. 20 وَلَكِنَّكُمْ تَقُولُونَ إنَّ طُرُقَ اللهِ غَيْرُ مُسْتَقِيمَةٍ. يَا بَيْتَ إسْرَائِيلَ، سَأَدِينُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ بِحَسَبِ أعْمَالِهِ.»
سُقُوطُ القُدْس
21 وَفِي اليَوْمِ الخَامِسِ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ العَاشِرِ مِنَ السَّنَةِ الثَّانِيَةَ عَشْرَةَ مِنَ السَّبْيِ، أتَى إلَيَّ أحَدُ الَّذِينَ هَرَبُوا مِنْ مَدِينَةِ القُدْسِ، وَقَالَ لِي: «سَقَطَتْ مَدِينَةُ القُدْسِ.» 22 وَفِي اللَّيلَةِ الَّتِي سَبَقَتْ مَجِيءَ اللَّاجِئِ إلَيَّ، جَعَلَتنِي قُوَّةُ اللهِ أتَكَلَّمُ، فَانفَتَحَ فَمِي وَتَكَلَّمْتُ. حَدَثَ هَذَا قَبْلَ أنْ يأتِيَ اللَّاجِئُ إلَيَّ فِي الصَّبَاحِ. 23 وَأتَتْ إلَيَّ كَلِمَةُ اللهِ، فَقَالَ لِي: 24 «يَا إنْسَانُ، يَقُولُ الشَّعْبُ السَّاكِنُ وَسَطَ خَرَائِبِ إسْرَائِيلَ: ‹لَمْ يَكُنْ إبْرَاهِيمُ سِوَى رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ، وَمَعَ هَذَا فَقَدْ وَرِثَ الأرْضَ كُلَّهَا. أمَّا نَحْنُ فَكَثِيرُونَ، وَلِذَا فَإنَّنَا سَنَحْتَفِظُ بِالأرْضِ مِيرَاثًا لَنَا.›
25 «لِذَلِكَ هَذَا هُوَ مَا يَقُولُهُ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ: ‹هَلْ تَأْكُلُونَ الدَّمَ، وَتَعْبُدُونَ الأوْثَانَ القَذِرَةَ، وَتَقْتُلُونَ النَّاسَ، وَمَعَ هَذَا تَحْتَفِظُونَ بِالأرْضِ؟ 26 تَعْتَمِدُونَ عَلَى العُنفِ وَالظُّلمِ، وَتَعْمَلُونَ مَا هُوَ بَشِعٌ، وَيُنَجِّسُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ زَوْجَةَ صَاحِبِهِ، وَتُرِيدُونَ الِاحْتِفَاظَ بِالأرْضِ؟›
27 «قُلْ لَهُمْ هَذَا هُوَ مَا يَقُولُهُ الرَّبُّ الإلَهُ: ‹أُقْسِمُ بِذَاتِي إنَّكُمْ سَتَمُوتُونَ بِالسَّيْفِ فِي تِلْكَ الخَرَائِبِ. وَالَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ مِنْكُمْ فِي الحقُولِ فَإنِّي سَأجْعَلُهُمْ طَعَامًا لِلحَيَوَانَاتِ البَرِّيَّةِ، وَالَّذِينَ يَخْتَبِئُونَ مِنْكُمْ فِي الحُصُونِ وَالكُهُوفِ، سَيَمُوتُونَ مِنَ الوَبَاءِ. 28 سَأجْعَلُ هَذِهِ الأرْضَ خَرَابًا مَهجُورًا، فَلَا يَعُودُ لَهَا مَا تَتَبَاهَى بِهِ. سَتَصِيرُ جِبَالُ إسْرَائِيلَ مُوحِشَةً فَلَا يَعْبُرُهَا أحَدٌ. 29 وَحِينَ أجعَلُ الأرْضَ خَرِبَةً بِسَبَبِ الأُمُورِ الكَرِيهَةِ الَّتِي عَمِلُوهَا، فَإنَّهُمْ سَيَعَلَمُونَ أنِّي أنَا اللهُ.›
30 «أمَّا أنْتَ يَا إنْسَانُ، فَإنَّ شَعْبَكَ يَتَكَلَّمُ عَلَيْكَ قُرْبَ الأسوَارِ وَعِنْدَ كُلِّ بَابٍ. يَقُولُ بَعْضُهُمْ لِبَعْضٍ لِنَذهَبْ وَنَسْتَمِعْ إلَى الرِّسَالَةِ الآتِيَةِ مِنَ عِنْدِ اللهِ! 31 فَيَأْتُونَ إلَيْكَ كَجُمهُورٍ كَبِيرٍ، وَيَجْلِسُونَ أمَامَكَ وَيَسْتَمِعُونَ إلَى كَلَامِكَ، لَكِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يَعَمَلُوا بِهِ. تَسْمَعُ المَدِيحَ عَلَى شِفَاهِهِمْ، أمَّا قُلُوبُهُمْ فَمُولَعَةٌ بِالرِّبحِ.
32 «مَا أنْتَ لَهُمْ سِوَى مُغَنٍّ ذِي صَوْتٍ جَمِيلٍ، يُغَنِّي أغَانِيَ الحُبِّ بِألحَانٍ عَذْبَةٍ. سَيَسْمَعُونَ كَلَامَكَ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يَعْمَلُوا بِهِ. 33 لَكِنْ حِينَ تأتِي المُصِيبَةُ – وَسَتَأْتِي حَتمًا – فَحِينَئِذٍ، سَيَعْلَمُونَ أنَّ نَبِيًّا كَانَ فِي وَسَطَهِمْ.»

Renewal of Ezekiel’s Call as Watchman
33 The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword(A) against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,(B) 3 and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet(C) to warn the people, 4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not heed the warning(D) and the sword comes and takes their life, their blood will be on their own head.(E) 5 Since they heard the sound of the trumpet but did not heed the warning, their blood will be on their own head.(F) If they had heeded the warning, they would have saved themselves.(G) 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’(H)
7 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman(I) for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me.(J) 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,(K)’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for[a] their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood.(L) 9 But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so,(M) they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.(N)
10 “Son of man, say to the Israelites, ‘This is what you are saying: “Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away(O) because of[b] them. How then can we live?(P)”’ 11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.(Q) Turn!(R) Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’(S)
12 “Therefore, son of man, say to your people,(T) ‘If someone who is righteous disobeys, that person’s former righteousness will count for nothing. And if someone who is wicked repents, that person’s former wickedness will not bring condemnation. The righteous person who sins will not be allowed to live even though they were formerly righteous.’(U) 13 If I tell a righteous person that they will surely live, but then they trust in their righteousness and do evil, none of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered; they will die for the evil they have done.(V) 14 And if I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ but they then turn away from their sin and do what is just(W) and right— 15 if they give back what they took in pledge(X) for a loan, return what they have stolen,(Y) follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil—that person will surely live; they will not die.(Z) 16 None of the sins(AA) that person has committed will be remembered against them. They have done what is just and right; they will surely live.(AB)
17 “Yet your people say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ But it is their way that is not just. 18 If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and does evil,(AC) they will die for it.(AD) 19 And if a wicked person turns away from their wickedness and does what is just and right, they will live by doing so.(AE) 20 Yet you Israelites say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ But I will judge each of you according to your own ways.”(AF)
Jerusalem’s Fall Explained
21 In the twelfth year of our exile, in the tenth month on the fifth day, a man who had escaped(AG) from Jerusalem came to me and said, “The city has fallen!(AH)” 22 Now the evening before the man arrived, the hand of the Lord was on me,(AI) and he opened my mouth(AJ) before the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened and I was no longer silent.(AK)
23 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 24 “Son of man, the people living in those ruins(AL) in the land of Israel are saying, ‘Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many;(AM) surely the land has been given to us as our possession.’(AN) 25 Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Since you eat(AO) meat with the blood(AP) still in it and look to your idols and shed blood, should you then possess the land?(AQ) 26 You rely on your sword, you do detestable things,(AR) and each of you defiles his neighbor’s wife.(AS) Should you then possess the land?’
27 “Say this to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: As surely as I live, those who are left in the ruins will fall by the sword, those out in the country I will give to the wild animals to be devoured, and those in strongholds and caves will die of a plague.(AT) 28 I will make the land a desolate waste, and her proud strength will come to an end, and the mountains(AU) of Israel will become desolate so that no one will cross them.(AV) 29 Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have made the land a desolate(AW) waste because of all the detestable things they have done.’(AX)
30 “As for you, son of man, your people are talking together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, saying to each other, ‘Come and hear the message that has come from the Lord.’ 31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before(AY) you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy(AZ) for unjust gain.(BA) 32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs(BB) with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.(BC)
33 “When all this comes true—and it surely will—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.(BD)”
