5 فَإِنَّ الْكَاهِنَ الأَعْلَى كَانَ يُؤْخَذُ مِنْ بَيْنِ النَّاسِ، وَيُعَيَّنُ لِلْقِيَامِ بِمُهِمَّتِهِ نِيَابَةً عَنْهُمْ فِيمَا يَخُصُّ عَلاقَتَهُمْ بِاللهِ. وَذَلِكَ لِكَيْ يَرْفَعَ إِلَى اللهِ التَّقْدِمَاتِ وَالذَّبَائِحَ، تَكْفِيراً عَنِ الْخَطَايَا. 2 وَلِكَوْنِهِ، هُوَ أَيْضاً، مُعَرَّضاً لِلضَّعْفِ الْبَشَرِيِّ دَائِماً، كَانَ يُمْكِنُهُ أَنْ يَعْطِفَ عَلَى الْجُهَّالِ وَالضَّالِّينَ. 3 وَبِسَبَبِ ضَعْفِهِ، كَانَ مِنْ وَاجِبِهِ أَيْضاً أَنْ يُكَفِّرَ عَنْ خَطَايَاهُ الْخَاصَّةِ كَمَا يُكَفِّرُ عَنْ خَطَايَا الآخَرِينَ.
4 وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ يَتَّخِذُ لِنَفْسِهِ هَذِهِ الْوَظِيفَةَ الجَّلِيلَةَ مَتَى أَرَادَ، بَلْ كَانَ يَتَّخِذُهَا مَنْ دَعَاهُ اللهُ إِلَيْهَا، كَمَا دَعَا هرُونَ. 5 كَذَلِكَ الْمَسِيحُ لَمْ يُرَفِّعْ نَفْسَهُ حَتَّى يَصِيرَ رَئِيسَ كَهَنَةٍ، بَلْ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ الَّذِي قَالَ لَهُ: «أَنْتَ ابْنِي. أَنَا الْيَوْمَ وَلَدْتُكَ!» 6 وَخَاطَبَهُ فِي مَوْضِعٍ آخَرَ بِقَوْلِهِ: «أَنْتَ كَاهِنٌ إِلَى الأَبَدِ عَلَى رُتْبَةِ مَلْكِيصَادَقَ!»
7 وَالْمَسِيحُ، فِي أَثْنَاءِ حَيَاتِهِ الْبَشَرِيَّةِ عَلَى الأَرْضِ، رَفَعَ أَدْعِيَةً وَتَضَرُّعَاتٍ مُقْتَرِنَةً بِصُرَاخٍ شَدِيدٍ وَدُمُوعٍ، إِلَى الْقَادِرِ أَنْ يُخَلِّصَهُ مِنَ الْمَوْتِ. وَقَدْ لَبَّى اللهُ طَلَبَهُ إِكْرَاماً لِتَقْوَاهُ. 8 فَمَعَ كَوْنِهِ ابْناً تَعَلَّمَ الطَّاعَةَ مِنَ الآلامِ الَّتِي قَاسَاهَا. 9 وَبِذلِكَ، أَصْبَحَ مُؤَهَّلاً لِمُهِمَّتِهِ، فَصَارَ لِجَمِيعِ الَّذِينَ يُطِيعُونَهُ مَصْدَراً لِلْخَلاصِ الأَبَدِيِّ. 10 وَقَدْ أَيَّدَ اللهُ ذَلِكَ، فَأَعْلَنَهُ رَئِيسَ كَهَنَةٍ عَلَى رُتْبَةِ مَلْكِيصَادَقَ.
التحذير من الارتداد
11 بِخُصُوصِ رَئِيسَ الْكَهَنَةِ هَذَا، عِنْدِي كَلامٌ كَثِيرٌ، وَلكِنَّهُ صَعْبُ التَّفْسِيرِ! إِذْ يَبْدُو أَنَّكُمْ تُعَانُونَ بُطْئاً فِي الْفَهْمِ. 12 كَانَ يَجِبُ أَنْ تَكُونُوا الآنَ قَادِرِينَ عَلَى تَعْلِيمِ الآخَرِينَ، بَعْدَمَا مَضَى زَمَانٌ طَوِيلٌ عَلَى اهْتِدَائِكُمْ. وَلَكِنَّكُمْ مَازِلْتُمْ بِحَاجَةٍ إِلَى مَنْ يُعَلِّمُكُمْ حَتَّى الْمَبَادِئَ الأَسَاسَ لأَقْوَالِ اللهِ. هَا قَدْ عُدْتُمْ مِنْ جَدِيدٍ تَحْتَاجُونَ إِلَى اللَّبَنِ! فَأَنْتُمْ غَيْرُ قَادِرِينَ عَلَى هَضْمِ الطَّعَامِ الْقَوِيِّ. 13 وَكُلُّ مَنْ يَتَنَاوَلُ اللَّبَنَ، يَكُونُ عَدِيمَ الْخِبْرَةِ فِي التَّعْلِيمِ الْقَوِيمِ، لأَنَّهُ مَازَالَ طِفْلاً غَيْرَ نَاضِجٍ. 14 أَمَّا النَّاضِجُونَ رُوحِيًّا، فَهُمْ قَادِرُونَ عَلَى تَنَاوُلِ الطَّعَامِ الْقَوِيِّ: لأَنَّ حَوَاسَّهُمْ قَدْ تَدَرَّبَتْ، بِالْمُمَارَسَةِ الصَّحِيحَةِ، عَلَى التَّمْيِيزِ بَيْنَ الْخَيْرِ وَالشَّرِّ.

5 Infatti ogni sommo sacerdote, preso fra gli uomini, è costituito per gli uomini nelle cose che riguardano Dio, per offrire doni e sacrifici per i peccati;
2 cosí egli può usare compassione verso gli ignoranti e gli erranti, poiché è circondato anch'egli di debolezza,
3 e a motivo di questa è obbligato ad offrire sacrifici per i peccati, tanto per se stesso che per il popolo.
4 E nessuno si prende da se stesso questo onore, ma lo riceve colui che è chiamato da Dio, come Aaronne.
5 Cosí anche Cristo non si prese da sé la gloria di diventare sommo sacerdote, ma la ricevette da colui che gli disse: «Tu sei mio Figlio, oggi io ti ho generato»,
6 e altrove dice: «Tu sei sacerdote in eterno, secondo l'ordine di Melchisedek»
7 Nei giorni della sua carne, con grandi grida e lacrime, egli offrí preghiere e supplicazioni a colui che lo poteva salvare dalla morte, e fu esaudito a motivo del suo timore di Dio.
8 Benché fosse Figlio, imparò l'ubbidienza dalle cose che soffrí,
9 e, reso perfetto, divenne autore di salvezza eterna per tutti coloro che gli ubbidiscono,
10 essendo da Dio proclamato sommo sacerdote, secondo l'ordine di Melchisedek,
11 nei riguardi del quale avremmo molte cose da dire, ma difficili da spiegare, perché voi siete diventati lenti a capire.
12 Infatti, mentre a quest'ora dovreste essere maestri, avete di nuovo bisogno che vi s'insegnino i primi elementi degli oracoli di Dio, e siete giunti al punto di aver bisogno di latte e non di cibo solido.
13 Chiunque infatti usa il latte non ha esperienza della parola di giustizia, perché è ancora un bambino;
14 il cibo solido invece è per gli adulti, che per l'esperienza hanno le facoltà esercitate a discernere il bene dal male.

5 Every high priest is selected from among the people and is appointed to represent the people in matters related to God,(A) to offer gifts and sacrifices(B) for sins.(C) 2 He is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray,(D) since he himself is subject to weakness.(E) 3 This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people.(F) 4 And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God, just as Aaron was.(G)
5 In the same way, Christ did not take on himself the glory(H) of becoming a high priest.(I) But God said(J) to him,
6 And he says in another place,
7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions(N) with fervent cries and tears(O) to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard(P) because of his reverent submission.(Q) 8 Son(R) though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered(S) 9 and, once made perfect,(T) he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest(U) in the order of Melchizedek.(V)
Warning Against Falling Away(W)
11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths(X) of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!(Y) 13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant,(Z) is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature,(AA) who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.(AB)
