الله يؤدب أولاده
12 فَبِمَا أَنَّ هَذَا الْعَدَدَ الْكَبِيرَ مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ لِلإِيمَانِ، يَتَجَمَّعُ حَوْلَنَا كَأَنَّهُ سَحَابَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ، فَلْنَطْرَحْ جَانِباً كُلَّ ثِقْلٍ يُعِيقُنَا عَنِ التَّقَدُّمِ، وَنَتَخَلَّصْ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْخَطِيئَةِ الَّتِي نَتَعَرَّضُ لِلسُّقُوطِ فِي فَخِّهَا بِسُهُولَةٍ، لِكَيْ نَتَمَكَّنَ، نَحْنُ أَيْضاً، أَنْ نَرْكُضَ بِاجْتِهَادٍ فِي السِّبَاقِ الْمُمْتَدِّ أَمَامَنَا، 2 مُتَطَلِّعِينَ دَائِماً إِلَى يَسُوعَ: رَائِدِ إِيمَانِنَا وَمُكَمِّلِهِ. فَهُوَ قَدْ تَحَمَّلَ الْمَوْتَ صَلْباً، هَازِئاً بِمَا فِي ذَلِكَ مِنْ عَارٍ، إِذْ كَانَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى السُّرُورِ الَّذِي يَنْتَظِرُهُ، ثُمَّ جَلَسَ عَنْ يَمِينِ عَرْشِ اللهِ. 3 فَتَأَمَّلُوا مَلِيًّا مَا قَاسَاهُ بِتَحَمُّلِهِ تِلْكَ الْمُعَامَلَةَ الْعَنِيفَةَ الَّتِي عَامَلَهُ بِها الْخَاطِئُونَ، لِكَيْ لَا تَتْعَبُوا وَتَنْهَارُوا!
4 لَمْ تُقَاوِمُوا بَعْدُ حَتَّى بَذْلِ الدَّمِ فِي مُجَاهَدَتِكُمْ ضِدَّ الْخَطِيئَةِ. 5 فَهَلْ نَسِيتُمُ الْوَعْظَ الَّذِي يُخَاطِبُكُمْ بِهِ اللهُ بِوَصْفِكُمْ أَبْنَاءً لَهُ؟ إِذْ يَقُولُ: «يَا ابْنِي، لَا تَسْتَخِفَّ بِتَأْدِيبِ الرَّبِّ. وَلا تَفْقِدِ الْعَزِيمَةَ حِينَ يُوَبِّخُكَ عَلَى الْخَطَأِ. 6 فَإِنَّ الَّذِي يُحِبُّهُ الرَّبُّ يُؤَدِّبُهُ. وَهُوَ يَجْلِدُ كُلَّ مَنْ يَتَّخِذُهُ لَهُ ابْناً!»
7 إِذَنْ، تَحَمَّلُوا تَأْدِيبَ الرَّبِّ. فَهُوَ يُعَامِلُكُمْ مُعَامَلَةَ الأَبْنَاءِ: وَأَيُّ ابْنٍ لَا يُؤَدِّبُهُ أَبُوهُ؟ 8 فَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ لَا تَتَلَقَّوْنَ التَّأْدِيبَ الَّذِي يَشْتَرِكُ فِيهِ أَبْنَاءُ اللهِ جَمِيعاً، فَمَعْنَى ذَلِكَ أَنَّكُمْ لَسْتُمْ أَبْنَاءَ شَرْعِيِّينَ لَهُ.
9 كَانَ آبَاؤنَا الأَرْضِيُّونَ يُؤَدِّبُونَنَا وَنَحْنُ أَوْلادٌ، وَكُنَّا نَحْتَرِمُهُمْ. أَفَلا يَجْدُرُ بِنَا الآنَ أَنْ نَخْضَعَ خُضُوعاً تَامّاً لِتَأْدِيبِ أَبِي الأَرْوَاحِ، لِنَحْيَا حَيَاةً فُضْلَى؟ 10 وَقَدْ أَدَّبَنَا آبَاؤُنَا فَتْرَةً مِنَ الزَّمَانِ، حَسَبَ مَا رَأَوْهُ مُنَاسِباً. أَمَّا اللهُ، فَيُؤَدِّبُنَا دَائِماً مِنْ أَجْلِ مَنْفَعَتِنَا: لِكَيْ نَشْتَرِكَ فِي قَدَاسَتِهِ. 11 وَطَبْعاً، كُلُّ تَأْدِيبٍ لَا يَبْدُو فِي الْحَالِ بَاعِثاً عَلَى الْفَرَحِ، بَلْ عَلَى الْحُزْنِ. وَلَكِنَّهُ فِيمَا بَعْدُ، يُنْتِجُ بِسَلامٍ فِي الَّذِينَ يَتَلَقَّوْنَهُ ثَمَرَ الْبِرِّ. 12 لِذَلِكَ، شَدِّدُوا أَيْدِيَكُمُ الْمُرْتَخِيَةَ، وَرُكَبَكُمُ الْمُنْحَلَّةَ. 13 وَمَهِّدُوا لأَقْدَامِكُمْ طُرُقاً مُسْتَقِيمَةً، حَتَّى لَا تَنْحَرِفَ أَرْجُلُ الْعُرْجِ، بَلْ تُشْفَى!
التحذير من رفض الله
14 اجْعَلُوا هَدَفَكُمْ أَنْ تُسَالِمُوا جَمِيعَ النَّاسِ، وَتَعِيشُوا حَيَاةً مُقَدَّسَةً. فَبِغَيْرِ قَدَاسَةٍ، لَا يَقْدِرُ أَحَدٌ أَنْ يَرَى الرَّبَّ.
15 انْتَبِهُوا أَلّا يَسْقُطَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ نِعْمَةِ اللهِ، حَتَّى لَا يَتَأَصَّلَ بَيْنَكُمْ جَذْرُ مَرَارَةٍ، فَيُسَبِّبَ بَلْبَلَةً، وَيُنَجِّسَ كَثِيرِينَ مِنْكُمْ. 16 وَحَذَارِ أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَكُمْ زَانٍ أَوْ مُسْتَهْتِرٌ مِثْلُ عِيسُو الَّذِي بَاعَ حُقُوقَهُ الَّتِي كَانَتْ لَهُ بِوَصْفِهِ الابْنَ الْبِكْرَ، لِقَاءَ أَكْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ. 17 فَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ جَيِّداً أَنَّهُ لَمَّا أَرَادَ اسْتِعَادَةَ الْبَرَكَةِ مِنْ أَبِيهِ، بَعْدَمَا كَانَ قَدِ اسْتَخَفَّ بِها، رُفِضَ لأَنَّهُ لَمْ يَجِدْ مَجَالاً لِلتَّوْبَةِ، مَعَ أَنَّهُ طَلَبَ الْبَرَكَةَ وَهُوَ يَذْرِفُ الدُّمُوعَ.
جبل الخوف وجبل الفرح
18 إِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَقْتَرِبُوا إِلَى جَبَلٍ مَلْمُوسٍ، مُشْتَعِلٍ بِالنَّارِ، وَلا إلى ضَبَابٍ وَظَلامٍ وَرِيحٍ عَاصِفَةٍ، 19 حَيْثُ انْطَلَقَ صَوْتُ بُوقٍ هَاتِفاً بِكَلِمَاتٍ وَاضِحَةٍ، وَقَدْ كَانَ مُرْعِباً حَتَّى إِنَّ سَامِعِيهِ الْتَمَسُوا أَنْ يَتَوَقَّفَ عَنِ الْكَلامِ. 20 فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُطِيقُوا احْتِمَالَ هَذَا الأَمْرِ الصَّادِرِ إِلَيْهِمْ: «حَتَّى الْحَيَوَانُ الَّذِي يَمَسُّ الْجَبَلَ، يَجِبُ أَنْ تَقْتُلُوهُ رَجْماً!» 21 وَالْوَاقِعُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ الْمَشْهَدَ كَانَ مُرْعِباً إِلَى دَرَجَةٍ جَعَلَتْ مُوسَى يَقُولُ: «أَنَا خَائِفٌ جِدّاً، بَلْ مُرْتَجِفٌ خَوْفاً!» 22 وَلَكِنَّكُمْ قَدِ اقْتَرَبْتُمْ إِلَى جَبَلِ صِهْيَوْنَ، إِلَى مَدِينَةِ اللهِ الْحَيِّ، أُورُشَلِيمَ السَّمَاوِيَّةِ. بَلْ تَقَدَّمْتُمْ إِلَى حَفْلَةٍ يَجْتَمِعُ فِيهَا عَدَدٌ لَا يُحْصَى مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ، 23 إِلَى كَنِيسَةٍ تَجْمَعُ أَبْنَاءً لِلهِ أَبْكَاراً، أَسْمَاؤُهُمْ مَكْتُوبَةٌ فِي السَّمَاءِ. بَلْ إِلَى اللهِ نَفْسِهِ، دَيَّانِ الْجَمِيعِ، وَإِلَى أَرْوَاحِ أُنَاسٍ بَرَّرَهُمُ اللهُ وَجَعَلَهُمْ كَامِلِينَ. 24 كَذلِكَ، تَقَدَّمْتُمْ إِلَى يَسُوعَ، وَسِيطِ الْعَهْدِ الْجَدِيدِ، وَإِلَى دَمِهِ الْمَرْشُوشِ الَّذِي يَتَكَلَّمُ مُطَالِباً بِأَفْضَلَ مِمَّا طَالَبَ بِهِ دَمُ هَابِيلَ.
25 إِذَنْ حَذَارِ أَنْ تَرْفُضُوا الَّذِي يَتَكَلَّمُ! فَمَادَامَ أُولئِكَ الَّذِينَ رَفَضُوا الاسْتِمَاعَ لِمَنْ كَلَّمَهُمْ عَلَى هذِهِ الأَرْضِ، لَمْ يُفْلِتُوا (مِنَ الْعِقَابِ) قَطُّ، فَكَمْ بِالأَحْرَى لَا نُفْلِتُ نَحْنُ أَبَداً إِنْ تَحَوَّلْنَا عَنِ الَّذِي يَتَكَلَّمُ إِلَيْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ عَيْنِهَا! 26 وَإِذْ تَكَلَّمَ اللهُ قَدِيماً، زَلْزَلَ صَوْتُهُ الأَرْضَ، أَمَّا الآنَ، فَيَعِدُ قَائِلاً: «إِنِّي مَرَّةً أُخْرَى، سَوْفَ أُزَلْزِلُ لَا الأَرْضَ وَحْدَهَا، بَلِ السَّمَاءَ أَيْضاً!» 27 وَبِقَوْلِهِ: «مَرَّةً أُخْرَى»، يُشِيرُ إِلَى أَنَّهُ سَوْفَ يُزِيلُ كُلَّ مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ أَسَاسٌ مَتِينٌ بِاعْتِبَارِهِ مَخْلُوقاً، حَتَّى لَا تَبْقَى إِلّا تِلْكَ الأَشْيَاءُ الثَّابِتَةُ الأَسَاسِ.
28 فَبِمَا أَنَّنَا قَدْ حَصَلْنَا عَلَى مَمْلَكَةٍ ثَابِتَةٍ لَا تَتَزَلْزَلُ، لِنَعْبُدِ اللهَ وَنَخْدِمْهُ شَاكِرِينَ، بِصُورَةٍ تُرْضِيهِ، بِكُلِّ احْتِرَامٍ وَمَخَافَةٍ، 29 مُتَذَكِّرِينَ أَنَّ «إِلَهَنَا نَارٌ آكِلَةٌ!»

L'esempio di Gesù Cristo
12 Anche noi dunque, circondati da un così gran nugolo di testimoni, deposto tutto ciò che è di peso e il peccato che ci assedia, corriamo con perseveranza nella corsa che ci sta davanti, 2 tenendo fisso lo sguardo su Gesù, autore e perfezionatore della fede. Egli in cambio della gioia che gli era posta innanzi, si sottopose alla croce, disprezzando l'ignominia, e si è assiso alla destra del trono di Dio. 3 Pensate attentamente a colui che ha sopportato contro di sé una così grande ostilità dei peccatori, perché non vi stanchiate perdendovi d'animo. 4 Non avete ancora resistito fino al sangue nella vostra lotta contro il peccato 5 e avete gia dimenticato l'esortazione a voi rivolta come a figli:
Figlio mio, non disprezzare la correzione del Signore
e non ti perdere d'animo quando sei ripreso da lui;
6 perché il Signore corregge colui che egli ama
e sferza chiunque riconosce come figlio.
7 E' per la vostra correzione che voi soffrite! Dio vi tratta come figli; e qual è il figlio che non è corretto dal padre? 8 Se siete senza correzione, mentre tutti ne hanno avuto la loro parte, siete bastardi, non figli! 9 Del resto, noi abbiamo avuto come correttori i nostri padri secondo la carne e li abbiamo rispettati; non ci sottometteremo perciò molto di più al Padre degli spiriti, per avere la vita? 10 Costoro infatti ci correggevano per pochi giorni, come sembrava loro; Dio invece lo fa per il nostro bene, allo scopo di renderci partecipi della sua santità. 11 Certo, ogni correzione, sul momento, non sembra causa di gioia, ma di tristezza; dopo però arreca un frutto di pace e di giustizia a quelli che per suo mezzo sono stati addestrati.
12 Perciò rinfrancate le mani cadenti e le ginocchia infiacchite 13 e raddrizzate le vie storte per i vostri passi, perché il piede zoppicante non abbia a storpiarsi, ma piuttosto a guarire.
Castigo dell'infedeltà
14 Cercate la pace con tutti e la santificazione, senza la quale nessuno vedrà mai il Signore, 15 vigilando che nessuno venga meno alla grazia di Dio. Non spunti né cresca alcuna radice velenosa in mezzo a voi e così molti ne siano infettati; 16 non vi sia nessun fornicatore o nessun profanatore, come Esaù, che in cambio di una sola pietanza vendette la sua primogenitura. 17 E voi ben sapete che in seguito, quando volle ereditare la benedizione, fu respinto, perché non trovò possibilità che il padre mutasse sentimento, sebbene glielo richiedesse con lacrime.
Le due alleanze
18 Voi infatti non vi siete accostati a un luogo tangibile e a un fuoco ardente, né a oscurità, tenebra e tempesta, 19 né a squillo di tromba e a suono di parole, mentre quelli che lo udivano scongiuravano che Dio non rivolgesse più a loro la parola; 20 non potevano infatti sopportare l'intimazione: Se anche una bestia tocca il monte sia lapidata. 21 Lo spettacolo, in realtà, era così terrificante che Mosè disse: Ho paura e tremo. 22 Voi vi siete invece accostati al monte di Sion e alla città del Dio vivente, alla Gerusalemme celeste e a miriadi di angeli, all'adunanza festosa 23 e all'assemblea dei primogeniti iscritti nei cieli, al Dio giudice di tutti e agli spiriti dei giusti portati alla perfezione, 24 al Mediatore della Nuova Alleanza e al sangue dell'aspersione dalla voce più eloquente di quello di Abele.
25 Guardatevi perciò di non rifiutare Colui che parla; perché se quelli non trovarono scampo per aver rifiutato colui che promulgava decreti sulla terra, molto meno lo troveremo noi, se volteremo le spalle a Colui che parla dai cieli. 26 La sua voce infatti un giorno scosse la terra; adesso invece ha fatto questa promessa: Ancora una volta io scuoterò non solo la terra, ma anche il cielo. 27 La parola ancora una volta sta a indicare che le cose che possono essere scosse son destinate a passare, in quanto cose create, perché rimangano quelle che sono incrollabili.
28 Perciò, poiché noi riceviamo in eredità un regno incrollabile, conserviamo questa grazia e per suo mezzo rendiamo un culto gradito a Dio, con riverenza e timore; 29 perché il nostro Dio è un fuoco divoratore.

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run(A) with perseverance(B) the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus,(C) the pioneer(D) and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,(E) scorning its shame,(F) and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.(G) 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary(H) and lose heart.
God Disciplines His Children
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.(I) 5 And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says,
“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,
and do not lose heart(J) when he rebukes you,
6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,(K)
and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”[a](L)
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children.(M) For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline(N)—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits(O) and live!(P) 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness.(Q) 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace(R) for those who have been trained by it.
12 Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.(S) 13 “Make level paths for your feet,”[b](T) so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed.(U)
Warning and Encouragement
14 Make every effort to live in peace with everyone(V) and to be holy;(W) without holiness no one will see the Lord.(X) 15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God(Y) and that no bitter root(Z) grows up to cause trouble and defile many. 16 See that no one is sexually immoral,(AA) or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.(AB) 17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears,(AC) he could not change what he had done.
The Mountain of Fear and the Mountain of Joy
18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;(AD) 19 to a trumpet blast(AE) or to such a voice speaking words(AF) that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,(AG) 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[c](AH) 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[d](AI)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion,(AJ) to the city(AK) of the living God,(AL) the heavenly Jerusalem.(AM) You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn,(AN) whose names are written in heaven.(AO) You have come to God, the Judge of all,(AP) to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,(AQ) 24 to Jesus the mediator(AR) of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood(AS) that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.(AT)
25 See to it that you do not refuse(AU) him who speaks.(AV) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned(AW) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?(AX) 26 At that time his voice shook the earth,(AY) but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.”[e](AZ) 27 The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken(BA)—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken,(BB) let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,(BC) 29 for our “God is a consuming fire.”[f](BD)
