이스라엘의 10대 왕으로 기름 부음을 받는 예후
9 한편 예언자 엘리사는 예언자의 생도 한 사람을 불러 이렇게 말하였다. “너 는 옷을 단단히 잡아매고 이 기름을 가지고 길르앗의 라못으로 가거라.
2 그 곳에 도착하거든 너는 님시의 손자이며 여호사밧의 아들인 예후를 찾아 그를 불러내어 골방으로 데리고 가서
3 그 머리에 기름을 붓고 여호와께서 그를 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼으셨다고 말한 다음 즉시 문을 열고 도망하여라. 거기서 우물쭈물해서는 안 된다.”
4 그래서 그 젊은 예언자는 라못으로 갔는데
5 예후가 군 지휘관들과 함께 앉아 있었다. 그때 그가 “장군님, 내가 당신에게 할 말이 있습니다” 하자 “누구 말인가?” 하고 예후가 물었다. 그래서 그는 “장군님에게 할 말이 있습니다” 하고 대답하였다.
6 예후가 일어나 집 안으로 들어가자 그 젊은 예언자는 그의 머리에 기름을 부으며 말하였다. “이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 말씀입니다. ‘내가 너에게 기름을 부어 내 백성을 다스릴 이스라엘의 왕으로 삼는다.
7 너는 아합의 집안 사람들을 죽여라. 내가 이세벨에게 내 예언자들과 종들을 죽인 죄의 대가를 반드시 치르도록 할 것이다.
8 내가 아합의 집안에 속한 남자는 종이든 자유인이든 모조리 죽여
9 느밧의 아들 여로보암과 아히야의 아들 바아사의 집안처럼 되게 하겠다.
10 개들이 이스르엘에서 이세벨의 시체를 먹어도 그녀를 묻어 줄 사람이 없을 것이다.’ ” 그러고서 그는 즉시 문을 열고 도망하였다.
11 예후가 나오자 그의 동료들이 물었다. “[a]별일은 없었는가? 그 미친 녀석이 자네에게 온 용건이 무엇인가?” “자네들도 잘 알고 있으면서 뭘 그러는가?”
12 “아니야, 우리는 모르고 있네. 무슨 일인지 말해 보게.” 그래서 그는 그 사람이 말한 것과 또 자기가 이스라엘의 왕으로 기름 부음을 받은 사실을 그들에게 말해 주었다.
13 그러자 그들은 즉시 자기들의 겉옷을 벗어 예후의 발밑에 깔아 주고 나팔을 불며 “예후는 왕이다!” 하고 외쳤다.
요람왕과 아하시야왕의 죽음
14-15 이렇게 해서 님시의 손자이며 여호사 밧의 아들인 예후가 요람왕을 반역하였다. 이때 요람은 길르앗의 라못에서 시리아의 하사엘왕과 싸우다가 입은 부상을 치료하려고 이스르엘에 가 있었다. 그래서 예후는 자기 동료들에게 “내가 왕이 되는 것을 좋게 생각한다면 한 사람이라도 이스르엘에 가서 우리가 행한 일을 보고하지 못하도록 해 주게” 하고
16 마차를 타고 이스르엘로 갔다. 이때 요람은 병상에 누워 있었고 유다의 아하시야왕은 문병하러 와서 그와 함께 있었다.
17 이스르엘 망대에 있던 파수꾼이 예후가 여러 사람들과 함께 오는 것을 보고 “누가 오고 있습니다” 하고 소리쳤다. 그러자 요람왕은 “한 사람을 말에 태워 보내 친구인지 적인지 알아보고 오게 하여라” 하고 명령하였다.
18 그래서 한 사람이 말을 타고 가서 예후를 만나 “왕은 당신이 친구로 온 사람인지 알고 싶어합니다” 하자 예후는 “그게 너와 무슨 상관이 있느냐? 너는 나를 따르라” 하였다. 파수꾼이 말을 타고 간 사람이 돌아오지 않는다고 왕에게 보고하자
19 왕은 다른 사람을 말에 태워 보냈다. 그도 예후에게 같은 질문을 하므로 예후는 “그게 너와 무슨 상관이 있느냐? 너는 나를 따르라” 하였다.
20 파수꾼은 그 사람도 가서 돌아오지 않는다고 왕에게 보고하며 “저들의 두목으로 보이는 자는 예후처럼 말을 난폭하게 몰고 있습니다” 하고 덧붙였다.
21 그러자 요람왕은 “내 마차를 준비하라” 하고 아하시야왕과 함께 각자 자기 마차를 타고 예후를 맞으러 나갔는데 그들이 만난 곳은 나봇의 밭이었다.
22 이때 요람이 예후를 보고 “예후야, 네가 친구로 왔느냐?” 하고 묻자 예후는 “당신의 어머니 이세벨의 우상 숭배와 마법이 판을 치고 있는 마당에 어떻게 우정이 있을 수 있겠소?” 하고 대답하였다.
23 그때 요람은 “아하시야왕이여, 반역입니다!” 하고 외치며 자기 마차를 돌려 달아났다.
24 예후가 있는 힘을 다해 활을 당겨 요람을 향해 쏘자 화살이 그의 어깻죽지 사이로 심장을 꿰뚫어 그는 자기 마차에 쓰러져 죽고 말았다.
25 그러자 예후는 자기 부관 갈에게 말하였다. “너는 이 시체를 나봇의 밭에 던져라. 너도 기억하겠지만 너와 내가 마차를 타고 저 사람의 아버지 아합왕의 뒤를 따라갈 때 여호와께서
26 ‘나는 어제 나봇과 그의 아들들이 살해당하는 것을 분명히 보았다’ 하셨고 또 ‘나는 네가 이 밭에서 그 대가를 반드시 치르도록 하겠다’ 라고 말씀하셨다. 그러므로 너는 여호와의 말씀대로 저 시체를 이 밭에 던져라.”
27 유다의 아하시야왕이 이것을 보고 벧 – 하간 쪽으로 도망하자 예후는 그를 추격하며 “저 자도 죽여라!” 하고 소리쳤다. 그의 부하들이 이블르암에서 가까운 구르 비탈길에서 그를 치자 그는 부상을 입고 므깃도까지 도망하여 거기서 죽었다.
28 그래서 아하시야왕의 신하들이 그 시체를 마차에 싣고 예루살렘으로 가서 다윗성에 있는 그 조상들의 묘에 장사하였다.
29 아하시야가 유다의 왕이 된 것은 아합의 아들인 이스라엘의 요람왕 [b]11년이었다.
이세벨의 죽음
30 그 후에 예후는 이스르엘로 갔다. 이세벨은 그가 왔다는 말을 듣고 눈화장을 하고 머리를 손질한 다음 창에서 내려다보다가
31 예후가 궁전 문으로 들어오는 것을 보고 “자기 왕을 죽인 시므리 같은 놈아! 네가 여기 무슨 일로 왔느냐?” 하고 소리쳤다.
32 이때 예후가 창을 쳐다보고 “내 편이 될 자가 누구냐?” 하고 외치자 두세 명의 내시가 밖을 내다보았다.
33 그래서 예후는 그들에게 “이세벨을 내던져라!” 하고 명령하였다. 그들이 이세벨을 내던지자 그 피가 벽과 말에 튀었다. 예후는 말과 전차를 몰아 그 시체를 짓밟은 다음
34 궁전으로 들어가서 먹고 마시며 이렇게 말하였다. “저 저주받은 여자를 묻어 주어라. 어쨌든 그녀는 왕의 딸이다.”
35 그러나 사람들이 그 시체를 묻으려고 갔을 때 두골과 손발 외에는 아무것도 없었다.
36 그들이 돌아와서 이 사실을 보고하자 예후가 말하였다. “이것은 여호와의 말씀이 이루어진 것이다. 여호와께서는 그의 종 엘리야에게 이스르엘 개들이 이세벨의 시체를 뜯어먹을 것이며
37 그 뼈는 밭의 거름처럼 흩어져 그것이 이세벨의 뼈라는 것을 알아볼 사람이 아무도 없을 것이라고 말씀하셨다.”

耶户被立为以色列王
9 以利沙先知叫来一个先知，吩咐他：“你要束上腰带，拿着这瓶膏油去基列的拉末。 2 到了以后，你去找宁示的孙子、约沙法的儿子耶户，带他离开同僚，进入密室， 3 把这瓶膏油倒在他头上，告诉他，‘耶和华说，我膏立你为以色列王。’然后，你要马上开门逃走，不可迟延。”
4 于是，那位年轻的先知启程前往基列的拉末。 5 到了那里，他看见众将领正坐在一起，便说：“将军，我有话对你说。”耶户说：“你想对我们哪一个说话？”他说：“将军啊，我有话对你说。” 6 耶户便站起来，随他进入屋里。他将膏油倒在耶户头上，说：“以色列的上帝耶和华说，‘我膏立你做我以色列子民的王。 7 你要杀你主人亚哈的全家，这样我就可以为我的仆人——众先知以及其他仆人报仇，他们被耶洗别杀害。 8 亚哈全家必灭亡，我要从以色列铲除他家中所有的男子——不论奴隶还是自由人， 9 使他家像尼八的儿子耶罗波安家和亚希雅的儿子巴沙家一样。 10 耶洗别的尸体必在耶斯列的田间被狗吃，无人埋葬。’”说完这话，那位年轻的先知便开门逃跑了。
11 耶户出来回到同僚那里，一个人问他：“没事吧？那疯子为什么来找你？”耶户答道：“你们认得他，也知道他会说什么。” 12 他们说：“我们不知道，你告诉我们吧！”耶户说：“他告诉我，耶和华说膏立我做以色列王。” 13 他们连忙将自己的衣服铺在耶户脚下的台阶上，吹响号角，高喊：“耶户做王了！”
以色列王约兰被杀
14 宁示的孙子、约沙法的儿子耶户背叛了约兰。当时，约兰率领全体以色列人在基列的拉末防御亚兰王哈薛， 15 他与哈薛交战受伤后，回到耶斯列养伤。耶户对属下说：“如果你们要我做王，就不要让任何人逃出城去耶斯列报信。” 16 于是，耶户驾车去了耶斯列，因为约兰在耶斯列养伤，犹大王亚哈谢也在那里探望他。
17 耶斯列城楼上的哨兵看见耶户的人马朝耶斯列奔来，就报信说：“我见到一队人马！”约兰下令：“派一个骑兵去看看他们是否为平安而来。” 18 骑兵出去迎接耶户，对他说：“王问你是否为平安而来。”耶户说：“这与你何干？你跟在我后面。”哨兵禀告说：“骑兵到了那里，却没有回来。” 19 王又派一个骑兵到耶户那里，对他说：“王问你是否为平安而来。”耶户说：“这与你何干？你跟在我后面。” 20 哨兵又禀告说：“他到了那里，也没有回来。那人驾车很猛，一定是宁示的孙子耶户。”
21 约兰下令备车。以色列王约兰和犹大王亚哈谢各乘自己的战车去见耶户。他们和耶户在耶斯列人拿伯的田里相遇。 22 约兰问他：“耶户，你为平安而来吗？”耶户答道：“国中到处都是你母亲耶洗别的偶像和邪术，怎能平安呢？” 23 约兰调转车头逃跑，向亚哈谢大喊：“亚哈谢，他反了！” 24 耶户张弓搭箭，射中约兰的后背，箭穿透他的心脏，他倒毙在车上。 25 耶户对将领毕甲说：“你去把他丢在耶斯列人拿伯的田里。还记得吗？你我一起驾车跟随他父亲亚哈的时候，耶和华曾预言亚哈的事说， 26 ‘我昨天看见拿伯和他儿子们被杀，我必使你在这块田里受到报应，这是耶和华说的。’现在你照耶和华的话，把他丢在这块田里吧。”
27 犹大王亚哈谢见状，就沿着通往伯哈干的道路逃跑。耶户在后面追，并大喊：“射死他！”他们在以伯莲附近的姑珥坡射伤了亚哈谢。他逃到米吉多后，伤重身亡。 28 他的臣仆用车把他的尸体运回耶路撒冷，安葬在大卫城他的祖坟里。
29 在以色列王亚哈的儿子约兰执政第十一年，亚哈谢登基做犹大王。
耶洗别被杀
30 耶户去了耶斯列。耶洗别闻讯，便梳头描眉，向窗外眺望。 31 耶户进城时，耶洗别高声喊道：“谋杀主人的心利啊，平安吗？” 32 耶户抬头望着窗口，喊道：“谁拥护我？谁？”有两三个太监从窗口往外看他。 33 耶户说：“把她扔下来！”那几个太监便把耶洗别扔下去，血溅在墙壁上和马匹身上。耶户驾车轧过她的身体， 34 进入王宫，大吃大喝，然后吩咐部下说：“把那受咒诅的妇人埋了，她毕竟是王的女儿。” 35 他们出去埋葬她，却只找到她的头骨、手掌和脚， 36 便回去禀告耶户。耶户说：“这正应验耶和华借祂仆人提斯比人以利亚说的话，‘狗必在耶斯列的田间吃耶洗别的肉， 37 耶洗别的尸体必像耶斯列田间的粪便，无人能认出那是耶洗别。’”

Jehu Is Anointed as King of Israel
9 Elisha the prophet sent for a man from the group of the prophets. Elisha said to him, “Tuck your coat into your belt. Take this bottle of olive oil with you. Go to Ramoth Gilead. 2 When you get there, look for Jehu. He’s the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Go to Jehu. Get him away from his companions. Take him into an inside room. 3 Then get the bottle. Pour the oil on his head. Announce to him, ‘The Lord says, “I anoint you as king over Israel.” ’ After that, open the door and run away. Do it quickly!”
4 So the young prophet went to Ramoth Gilead. 5 When he arrived, he found the army officers sitting together. “Commander, I have a message for you,” he said.
“For which one of us?” asked Jehu.
“For you, commander,” he replied.
6 Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the prophet poured the oil on Jehu’s head. He announced, “The Lord is the God of Israel. He says, ‘I am anointing you as king over the Lord’s people Israel. 7 You must destroy the royal house of your master Ahab. I will pay them back for spilling the blood of my servants the prophets. I will also pay them back for the blood of all the Lord’s servants that Jezebel spilled. 8 The whole house of Ahab will die out. I will destroy every male in Israel who is related to Ahab. It does not matter whether they are slaves or free. 9 I will make Ahab’s royal house like the house of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. I will make it like the house of Baasha, the son of Ahijah. 10 Dogs will eat up Jezebel on a piece of land at Jezreel. No one will bury her.’ ” Then the prophet opened the door and ran away.
11 Jehu went out to where the other officers were. One of them asked him, “Is everything all right? Why did that crazy man come to you?”
“You know the man. You know the kinds of things he says,” Jehu replied.
12 “That’s not true!” they said. “Tell us.”
Jehu said, “Here is what he told me. He announced, ‘The Lord says, “I am anointing you as king over Israel.” ’ ”
13 The officers quickly grabbed their coats. They spread them out under Jehu on the bare steps of the house. Then they blew a trumpet. They shouted, “Jehu is king!”
Jehu Kills Joram and Ahaziah
14 Jehu was the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. Jehu made plans against Joram. During that time Joram and Israel’s whole army had been guarding Ramoth Gilead. They had been guarding it against Hazael, the king of Aram. 15 But King Joram had returned to Jezreel. He had gone there to give his wounds time to heal. The soldiers of Aram had wounded him in his battle against Hazael, the king of Aram. Jehu said to his men, “Do you want to make me king? If you do, don’t let anyone sneak out of the city. Don’t let them go and tell the news in Jezreel.” 16 Then Jehu got into his chariot. He rode off to Jezreel. Joram was resting there. And Ahaziah, the king of Judah, had gone down to see him.
17 A lookout was standing on the roof of the tower in Jezreel. He saw Jehu’s troops approaching. So he called out, “I see some troops coming.”
“Get a horseman,” Joram ordered. “Send him to ride out to them. Have him ask, ‘Are you coming in peace?’ ”
18 The horseman rode out to where Jehu was. He said, “The king asks, ‘Are you coming in peace?’ ”
“What do you know about peace?” Jehu answered. “Get in line behind me.”
The lookout reported, “The messenger has reached them. But he isn’t coming back.”
19 So the king sent out a second horseman. When he came to them, he said, “The king asks, ‘Are you coming in peace?’ ”
Jehu replied, “What do you know about peace? Get in line behind me.”
20 The lookout reported, “The second messenger has reached them. But he isn’t coming back either. The one driving the chariot drives like Jehu, the son of Nimshi. He’s driving like a crazy person.”
21 “Get my chariot ready,” King Joram ordered. When it was ready, he rode out. Ahaziah, the king of Judah, rode out with him. Each of them was in his own chariot. They both went to meet Jehu. They met him at the piece of land that had belonged to Naboth from Jezreel. 22 When Joram saw Jehu he asked, “Have you come here in peace, Jehu?”
“Your mother Jezebel worships statues of gods,” Jehu replied. “She also worships evil powers. The evil things she does have spread everywhere. As long as all of that goes on, how can there be peace?”
23 Joram turned around and tried to get away. He called out, “It’s treason, Ahaziah!”
24 Then Jehu shot an arrow at Joram. It hit him between the shoulders. It went through his heart. He sank down slowly in his chariot. 25 Jehu spoke to Bidkar, his chariot officer. Jehu said, “Pick Joram up. Throw him on the field that belonged to Naboth from Jezreel. Remember how you and I were riding together in chariots behind Joram’s father Ahab? It was when the Lord spoke this prophecy against him. The Lord announced, 26 ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons. You can be sure that I will make you pay for it on this piece of land.’ So pick Joram up. Throw him on that piece of land. That’s what the Lord said would happen.”
27 Ahaziah, the king of Judah, saw what had happened. So he tried to get away. He went up the road toward Beth Haggan. Jehu chased him. He shouted, “Kill him too!” Jehu’s men wounded Ahaziah in his chariot. It happened on the way up to Gur near Ibleam. But Ahaziah escaped to Megiddo. And that’s where he died. 28 Ahaziah’s servants took him to Jerusalem in his chariot. They buried him in his family tomb in the City of David. 29 Ahaziah had become king of Judah. It was in the 11th year of Joram, the son of Ahab.
Jehu Kills Jezebel
30 Jehu went to Jezreel. Jezebel heard about it. So she put makeup on her eyes and fixed her hair. Then she looked out of a window. 31 Jehu entered the gate below. Jezebel said to him, “You are just like Zimri. You murdered your master. Have you come here in peace?”
32 Jehu looked up at the window. “Who is on my side?” he called out. “Who?” Two or three officials looked down at him. 33 “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down. Some of her blood splashed on the wall. Some of it splashed on Jehu’s chariot horses as they ran over her.
34 Jehu went inside. He ate and drank. “The Lord put a curse on that woman,” he said. “Take proper care of her body. Bury her. After all, she was a king’s daughter.” 35 So they went out to bury her. But all they found was her head, feet and hands. 36 They went back and reported it to Jehu. He told them, “That’s what the Lord said would happen. He announced it through his servant Elijah, who was from Tishbe. He said, ‘On a piece of land at Jezreel, dogs will eat up Jezebel’s body. 37 Her body will end up as garbage on that piece of land. So no one will be able to say, “Here’s where Jezebel is buried.” ’ ”
