보아스의 밭에서 이삭 줍는 룻
2 나오미에게는 보아스라는 친척 한 사람이 있었다. 그는 자기 남편 엘리멜렉의 집안에 속한 유력한 사람이었다.
2 하루는 룻이 나오미에게 말하였다. “제가 밭에 가서 이삭을 줍게 해 주세요. 혹시 친절한 사람이라도 만나면 제가 그를 따라다니며 이삭을 줍겠습니다.” 그러자 나오미가 “내 딸아, 가거라” 하고 대답하였다.
3 그래서 룻은 밭으로 나가 보리 베는 일꾼들을 따라다니면서 떨어진 이삭을 줍고 있었는데 공교롭게도 그 곳은 엘리멜렉의 친척 보아스의 밭이었다.
4 그때 마침 보아스가 베들레헴에서 막 도착하였다. 그가 일꾼들에게 “여호와께서 너희와 함께하시기를!” 하고 인사하자 그들도 “여호와께서 당신을 축복하시기를!” 하고 답례하였다.
5 그러고서 보아스는 일꾼들을 감독하는 사람에게 “저 젊은 여자는 누구냐?” 하고 물었다.
6 그러자 그가 대답하였다. “저 여자는 나오미와 함께 모압 땅에서 온 사람입니다.
7 그런데 일꾼들을 따라다니면서 떨어진 이삭을 줍게 해 달라고 부탁하기에 그렇게 하라고 했습니다. 그녀는 아침부터 지금까지 계속 이삭을 줍다가 지금 저 그늘에서 잠시 쉬고 있는 중입니다.”
8 그러자 보아스가 룻에게 가서 말하였다. “내 말을 듣게. 이삭을 주우러 다른 밭으로 가지 말고 여기서 우리 집 여자 일꾼들과 함께 있으면서 이삭을 줍도록 하게.
9 내가 젊은 남자들에게 그대를 건드리지 말라고 단단히 타일러 놓았네. 목이 마르거든 언제든지 물통 있는 데로 가서 일꾼들이 길어 온 물을 마시도록 하게.”
10 그러자 룻은 땅에 얼굴을 대고 절하며 말하였다. “어찌 나 같은 이방 여자에게 이런 친절을 베풀고 돌보아 주십니까?”
11 “나는 그대가 남편을 잃은 이후로 시어머니에게 한 일을 모두 들었네. 그리고 그대가 어떻게 부모가 있는 고향을 마다하고 이 곳 낯선 땅에까지 와서 살고 있는지도 다 알고 있네.
12 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 그대가 행한 대로 갚아 주시기 원하며 그분의 보호를 받고자 온 그대에게 풍성한 상을 주시기 원하네.”
13 “주인 어른의 시녀만도 못한 저를 위로하시고 친절하게 말씀해 주시니 정말 감사합니다.”
14 식사 때가 되자 보아스는 룻을 불러 함께 식사하자고 권하였다. 그래서 그녀는 일꾼들과 함께 앉아 보아스가 주는 [a]음식을 실컷 먹었다.
15 식사를 끝내고 룻이 이삭을 주우러 떠나자 보아스가 일꾼들에게 명령하였다. “저 여자에게 곡식단 사이에서도 이삭을 줍게 하고 조금도 나무라지 말며
16 가끔 곡식단에서 조금씩 뽑아 그녀가 줍도록 버려 두고 아무 말도 하지 말아라.”
17 이렇게 해서 룻은 저녁까지 이삭을 주웠는데 주운 것을 되어 보니 보리가 [b]한 말 남짓 되었다.
18 룻은 그것을 가지고 성으로 들어가 주운 것을 시어머니에게 보이고 또 싸가지고 온 먹다 남은 음식도 내어놓았다.
19 그러자 시어머니가 그녀에게 물었다. “오늘은 어디서 이렇게 많은 이삭을 주웠느냐? 너를 도와준 사람에게 하나님이 복을 주시기 원한다.” 그래서 룻은 시어머니에게 모든 일을 다 말하고 그 밭의 주인이 보아스라는 것도 말해 주었다.
20 그러자 나오미는 감격해서 며느리를 보고 말하였다. “여호와께서 그에게 복을 주시기 원한다. 하나님은 산 자나 죽은 자에게 언제나 자비를 베푸시는구나. 그 사람은 [c]우리를 돌볼 책임이 있는 가까운 우리 친척 중 하나이다.”
21 그때 룻이 “그는 또 나에게 추수가 끝날 때까지 일꾼들 곁에서 이삭을 주우라고 말했습니다” 하자
22 시어머니는 “정말 그게 좋겠구나!” 하며 다시 말을 이었다. “얘야, 너는 그의 말대로 다른 밭에 가지 말고 그의 밭에서 일하는 여자들을 따라다니며 이삭을 줍도록 하여라. 그렇지 않으면 네가 다른 사람의 밭에서 희롱을 당할지도 모른다.”
23 그래서 룻은 보리 추수와 밀 추수가 끝날 때까지 그들 곁에서 이삭을 주우며 시어머니와 함께 살았다.

2 拿俄米的丈夫以利米勒有个同族的亲戚，名叫波阿斯，是个大财主。 2 摩押女子路得对拿俄米说：“让我到田里去，我在谁的眼前蒙恩，我就跟在谁的背后捡麦穗。”拿俄米说：“女儿啊，你尽管去。” 3 路得就去了，来到田里，在收割的人背后捡麦穗。她恰巧来到以利米勒同族的人波阿斯那块田。 4 波阿斯刚好从伯利恒来，对收割的人说：“愿耶和华与你们同在。”他们回答：“愿耶和华赐福与你。” 5 波阿斯问那监督收割的仆人：“那是谁家的姑娘呢？” 6 监督收割的仆人回答：“她是跟拿俄米从摩押地回来的摩押女子。 7 她说：‘请让我捡一点麦穗吧。让我跟在收割的人背后，在禾捆堆中捡些零碎的穗子。’于是她来了。除了在房子里休息了一会儿之外，从早晨到现在一直都留在这里。”

8 波阿斯对路得说：“女儿啊，听我说，不要到别人田里去捡麦穗，也不要离开这里，要常常与我的女佣人在一起。 9 你看他们在哪块田里收割，就跟着女佣人去。我不是已经吩咐仆人不可欺负你吗？假如你渴了，就到水缸那里去，喝仆人打来的水。” 10 路得就俯伏在地叩拜，对他说：“我是个外族人，为甚么会在你眼前蒙恩，蒙你关照呢？” 11 波阿斯回答她说：“自从你丈夫去世以后，你对婆婆所行的，和你怎样离开父母与出生之地，来到素来不认识的人中间，这一切我都知道得很清楚了。 12 愿耶和华照你所作的报答你；你来投靠在耶和华以色列 神的翅膀下，愿他充充足足酬报你。” 13 路得说：“主人啊，但愿我在你眼前蒙恩，虽然我连你的婢女都不是，你还是安慰我，对我这么好。”
14 到了吃饭的时候，波阿斯对路得说：“你过来，吃一点饼吧，拿饼块蘸在醋里。”路得就在收割的人旁边坐下来。波阿斯把一些烘好的麦穗递给她，她吃饱了，还有剩下的。 15 她再起来去捡麦穗的时候，波阿斯吩咐仆人说：“就算她在禾捆堆中捡麦穗，也不可以辱骂她。 16 甚至要故意为她从禾捆中抽些出来，留给她去捡，千万不可责备她。”
路得把一切经过告诉拿俄米
17 路得就这样在田里捡麦穗，直到傍晚。她把捡来的麦穗打了，约有二十二公升大麦， 18 然后带回城里去。路得把捡来的麦子拿给婆婆看，把吃剩的给了婆婆。 19 婆婆问她：“你今天在哪里捡麦穗？在哪里工作呢？愿那关照你的人蒙福。”路得就告诉婆婆她在谁那里工作，说：“我今天在一个名叫波阿斯的人那里工作。” 20 拿俄米对媳妇说：“愿不断施慈爱给活人和死人的耶和华赐福给他。”拿俄米又对她说：“这个人是我们的亲人，有买赎权的一位近亲。” 21 摩押女子路得说：“他还告诉我：‘紧跟着我的仆人捡麦穗，直到全部收割完毕。’” 22 拿俄米对媳妇路得说：“我女儿啊，这样才好，要与他的女佣人一起去，免得在别人的田里遭受敌视。” 23 她就紧跟着波阿斯的女佣人捡麦穗，直到大麦和小麦都收割好了。路得一直与婆婆住在一起。

Ruth Meets Boaz in the Grain Field
2 Now Naomi had a relative(A) on her husband’s side, a man of standing(B) from the clan of Elimelek,(C) whose name was Boaz.(D)
2 And Ruth the Moabite(E) said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain(F) behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.(G)”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters.(H) As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.(I)
4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The Lord be with you!(J)”
“The Lord bless you!(K)” they answered.
5 Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young woman belong to?”
6 The overseer replied, “She is the Moabite(L) who came back from Moab with Naomi. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves(M) behind the harvesters.’ She came into the field and has remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest(N) in the shelter.”
8 So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the women who work for me. 9 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the women. I have told the men not to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.”
10 At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground.(O) She asked him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me(P)—a foreigner?(Q)”
11 Boaz replied, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law(R) since the death of your husband(S)—how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know(T) before.(U) 12 May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord,(V) the God of Israel,(W) under whose wings(X) you have come to take refuge.(Y)”
13 “May I continue to find favor in your eyes,(Z) my lord,” she said. “You have put me at ease by speaking kindly to your servant—though I do not have the standing of one of your servants.”
14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here. Have some bread(AA) and dip it in the wine vinegar.”
When she sat down with the harvesters,(AB) he offered her some roasted grain.(AC) She ate all she wanted and had some left over.(AD) 15 As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, “Let her gather among the sheaves(AE) and don’t reprimand her. 16 Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke(AF) her.”
17 So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed(AG) the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah.[a](AH) 18 She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over(AI) after she had eaten enough.
19 Her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!(AJ)”
Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,” she said.
20 “The Lord bless him!(AK)” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law.(AL) “He has not stopped showing his kindness(AM) to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative;(AN) he is one of our guardian-redeemers.[b](AO)”
21 Then Ruth the Moabite(AP) said, “He even said to me, ‘Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.’”
22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It will be good for you, my daughter, to go with the women who work for him, because in someone else’s field you might be harmed.”
23 So Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley(AQ) and wheat harvests(AR) were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.
