5 律法書上記著：安息日，祭司在殿裡供職，觸犯了安息日，也不算有罪；你們也沒有念過嗎？ 6 我告訴你們，這裡有一位是比聖殿更大的。 7 如果你們明白‘我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀’這句話的意思，就不會把無罪的定罪了。

5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath(A) and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.(B) 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’[a](C) you would not have condemned the innocent.
