耶稣使四千人吃饱
8 那时，又有一大群人聚在一起，他们没有东西吃。耶稣就叫来门徒，说： 2 “我怜悯这些人，他们跟我在一起已经三天，没有任何吃的了。 3 如果让他们饿着肚子回家，他们在路上会体力不支，因为有些人是远道而来的。”
4 门徒说：“在这荒野，如何找到足够的食物给这些人吃呢？”
5 耶稣问：“你们有多少饼？”
门徒答道：“七个。”
6 耶稣便吩咐大家坐在地上，然后拿着那七个饼祝谢了，掰开，递给门徒，让门徒分给大家，门徒就把饼分给大家。 7 他们还有几条小鱼。耶稣祝谢了，叫门徒分给众人。 8 大家都吃了，并且吃饱了，剩下的零碎装满了七个筐子。 9 吃的人约有四千。耶稣让众人回家后， 10 随即和门徒上船，来到大玛努他地区。
11 法利赛人出来盘问耶稣，要求祂从天上显一个神迹给他们看看，借此试探祂。 12 耶稣深深叹息道：“这世代的人为什么总是要看神迹呢？我实在告诉你们，没有神迹给这世代的人看。” 13 然后，耶稣离开他们，乘船回对岸去了。
防备法利赛人和希律的酵
14 门徒忘了带饼，船上只有一个饼。 15 耶稣警告他们：“你们要谨慎，要提防法利赛人和希律的酵！”
16 他们彼此议论说：“老师这样说，是不是因为我们没有带饼呢？”
17 耶稣知道他们的心思，就说：“你们为什么议论没有带饼的事呢？难道你们还不明白、不领悟吗？你们的心还是愚顽吗？ 18 你们有眼不会看，有耳不会听吗？你们不记得吗？ 19 我掰开五个饼分给五千人吃的时候，你们捡了多少篮的零碎呢？”
门徒答道：“十二篮。”
20 耶稣又说：“我用七个饼喂饱四千人的时候，你们捡了多少筐零碎呢？”
门徒答道：“七筐。”
21 耶稣接着说：“你们还不明白吗？”
治好伯赛大的瞎子
22 他们到了伯赛大，有人带来一个瞎子，求耶稣摸他。 23 耶稣拉着瞎子的手带他走到村外，吐唾沫在他的眼睛上，并把手按在他身上，问他：“你看见什么了？”
24 他抬头看了看，说：“我看见人们好像一棵棵的树，走来走去。”
25 耶稣把手按在他的眼睛上，他定睛一看，便恢复了视力，什么都看得清清楚楚。 26 耶稣叫他回家，并对他说：“不要再进这个村子了。”
彼得宣告耶稣是基督
27 耶稣和门徒前往凯撒利亚·腓立比境内的村庄。在路上，祂问门徒：“别人说我是谁？”
28 他们说：“有人说你是施洗者约翰，有人说你是以利亚，有人说你是众先知中的一位。”
29 耶稣又问他们：“那么，你们说我是谁？”
彼得回答说：“你是基督！”
30 耶稣吩咐他们不要泄露祂的身份。
耶稣预言自己的受难和复活
31 从此，耶稣便告诉他们，人子必须受许多苦，被长老、祭司长和律法教师弃绝，杀害，但必在三天之后复活。 32 耶稣清楚地把这些事告诉了他们，彼得就把祂拉到一边，劝阻祂。 33 耶稣转身看了看门徒，斥责彼得说：“撒旦，退到我后面去！因为你不考虑上帝的意思，只考虑人的意思。”
34 祂叫众人和门徒一起过来，对他们说：“如果有人要跟从我，就应当舍己，背起他的十字架跟从我。 35 因为想救自己生命的，必失去生命；但为了我和福音而失去生命的，必得到生命。 36 人就是赚得全世界，却丧失自己的生命，又有什么益处呢？ 37 他还能用什么换回生命呢？
38 “在这淫乱、罪恶的世代，如果有人以我和我的道为耻，人子在父的荣耀中与圣天使再来的时候，也要以他为耻。”

Jezus geeft weer duizenden mensen te eten
8 Op een keer was er weer een heel grote groep mensen bij elkaar. Ze hadden niets te eten bij zich. Jezus riep zijn leerlingen naar Zich toe en zei tegen hen: 2 "Ik heb medelijden met al die mensen. Ze zijn nu al drie dagen bij Mij en hebben niets meer te eten. 3 Als Ik hen zonder eten naar huis stuur, zakken ze onderweg nog in elkaar van de honger. Want sommigen van hen komen van ver weg." 4 Zijn leerlingen antwoordden Hem: "Hoe kunnen we hier aan genoeg brood komen voor al die mensen? Er woont hier helemaal niemand!" 5 Jezus vroeg: "Hoeveel broden hebben jullie?" Ze zeiden: "Zeven." 6 Hij zei tegen de mensen dat ze op de grond moesten gaan zitten. Hij nam de zeven broden en dankte God ervoor. Toen brak Hij de broden in stukken en gaf die aan de leerlingen om uit te delen. Ze deelden het brood uit aan de mensen. 7 Ze hadden ook een paar visjes. Nadat Hij die had gezegend, zei Hij dat ze die ook moesten uitdelen. 8 En de mensen aten tot ze genoeg hadden. Toen haalden ze de stukken op die overgebleven waren: zeven manden vol. 9 Er waren ongeveer 4000 mensen. Na het eten stuurde Jezus hen naar huis. 10 Onmiddellijk daarna stapte Jezus met zijn leerlingen in de boot en voer naar het gebied van Dalmanoeta.
De Farizeeërs vragen Jezus om een teken
11 De Farizeeërs kwamen naar Jezus toe en begonnen ruzie met Hem te maken. Ze vroegen Hem om een teken van God te laten zien. Ze wilden dat Hij bewees wie Hij was. Dat vroegen ze om Hem uit te dagen. 12 Hij zuchtte diep en zei: "Waarom willen jullie zo graag een teken zien? Luister goed: jullie krijgen geen teken!" 13 En Hij liet hen daar staan, stapte weer in de boot en vertrok naar de overkant.
De slechte invloed van de Farizeeërs en Herodes
14 De leerlingen hadden vergeten om brood mee te nemen. Ze hadden maar één brood bij zich in de boot en verder niets. 15 Jezus waarschuwde hen: "Pas goed op voor de gist van de Farizeeërs en van Herodes." 16 De leerlingen zeiden tegen elkaar: "Dat zegt Jezus vast omdat we geen brood hebben." 17 Toen Jezus dat merkte, zei Hij: "Waarom hebben jullie het er over dat jullie geen brood hebben? Zien jullie het dan nóg niet? Begrijpen jullie het nóg niet? Hebben jullie zo'n hard hart? 18 Hebben jullie ogen die niets zien en oren die niets horen? 19 Weten jullie niet meer wat er gebeurde toen Ik de vijf broden brak voor de 5000 mensen? Hoeveel manden vol brood hadden jullie toen over?" Ze antwoordden: "Twaalf." 20 "En bij de zeven broden voor de 4000 mensen? Hoeveel manden vol brood hadden jullie toen over?" 21 En ze zeiden: "Zeven." En Hij zei tegen hen: "Waarom begrijpen jullie het nog steeds niet?"
Jezus geneest een blinde man
22 Ze kwamen bij Betsaïda. Daar brachten de mensen een blinde man naar Jezus toe. Ze smeekten Hem om hem aan te raken. 23 Hij pakte de blinde bij de hand en bracht hem buiten het dorp. Toen spuugde Hij in zijn ogen, legde hem de handen op en vroeg hem: "Zie je iets?" 24 De man keek op en zei: "Ik zie de bomen. Nee, het moeten mensen zijn, want ze lopen." 25 Toen legde Jezus nog een keer zijn handen op de ogen van de man. Toen zag hij alles duidelijk en was gezond. 26 Jezus stuurde hem naar huis en zei: "Ga het dorp niet in en vertel niemand wat er gebeurd is."
Petrus begrijpt wie Jezus is
27 Jezus vertrok met zijn leerlingen naar de dorpen van de streek Cesarea Filippi. Onderweg vroeg Hij aan zijn leerlingen: "Wie ben Ik volgens de mensen?" 28 Ze antwoordden Hem: "Sommige mensen zeggen dat U Johannes de Doper bent. Anderen dat U de profeet Elia bent.[a] Weer andere mensen zeggen dat U één van de profeten bent." 29 Hij vroeg hun: "En jullie? Wie ben Ik volgens jullie?" Petrus antwoordde Hem: "U bent de Messias."[b] 30 En Hij verbood hun streng om dit tegen andere mensen te zeggen.
Jezus vertelt over zijn dood
31 Jezus begon hun uit te leggen dat de Mensenzoon veel zou moeten lijden. Dat Hij niet geloofd zou worden door de leiders van het volk, de leiders van de priesters en de wetgeleerden. Dat Hij zelfs zou worden gedood. Maar ook dat Hij op de derde dag uit de dood zou opstaan. 32 Hij vertelde hun dat allemaal, zonder iets voor hen te verbergen.
Toen nam Petrus Hem apart. Hij begon Hem streng tegen te spreken. 33 Maar Jezus draaide Zich om naar zijn leerlingen en zei streng tegen Petrus: "Ga weg, duivel! Want jij wil niet wat God wil, maar wat de mensen willen."
Jezus volgen
34 Toen riep Jezus de grote groep mensen en zijn leerlingen bij Zich. Hij zei tegen hen: "Als je bij Mij wil horen, moet je stoppen met voor jezelf te leven. Je moet het kruis opnemen[c] en Mij volgen. 35 Want als je je leven voor jezelf wil houden, zul je je leven verliezen. Maar als je je leven opgeeft voor Mij en voor het goede nieuws, zul je je leven redden. 36 Wat heb je eraan als je alles hebt wat je hebben wil, maar het kost je je leven? 37 En wat kun je geven in ruil voor je leven?
38 Het is erg als je je voor Mij en voor mijn woorden schaamt tegenover deze ontrouwe en ongehoorzame mensen. Want dan zal de Mensenzoon Zich ook voor jou schamen op de dag dat Hij samen met de heilige engelen terugkomt met de hemelse macht en majesteit van zijn Vader." (lees verder)

- Markus 8:28 Elia was een profeet uit de tijd van koning Achab, ongeveer 850 jaar hiervóór. De profeet Maleachi had ruim 300 jaar na Elia gezegd dat God 'de profeet Elia' op een gegeven moment naar de aarde zou sturen. Lees Maleachi 4:5. Hij zei dat dus ruim 400 jaar vóór Jezus' geboorte.
- Markus 8:29 Het woord 'Messias' is Hebreeuws en betekent 'Gezalfde'. 'De gezalfde' is in de Joodse Boeken de man die speciaal door God met zijn Geest is gevuld ('gezalfd') om Israël te redden. In het Grieks, de taal waarin het Nieuwe Testament is geschreven, werd hij de 'Christus' genoemd, wat hetzelfde betekent.
- Markus 8:34 De mensen die naar Jezus luisterden, kenden de Romeinse doodstraf door kruisiging. Iemand die gekruisigd ging worden, moest zelf zijn kruis dragen. Zij begrepen dus heel goed dat 'het kruis opnemen' verband hield met 'dood'. Het gaat hier over het opgeven van je eigen leven, om verder voor Jezus te leven.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(A)(B)(C)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(D) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(E) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(F) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(G) 12 He sighed deeply(H) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(I) of the Pharisees(J) and that of Herod.”(K)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(L) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(M) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(N)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(O)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(P) and some people brought a blind man(Q) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(R) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(S) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[a] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(T)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(U) others say Elijah;(V) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(W)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(X)
Jesus Predicts His Death(Y)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(Z) must suffer many things(AA) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(AB) and that he must be killed(AC) and after three days(AD) rise again.(AE) 32 He spoke plainly(AF) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(AG) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
The Way of the Cross
34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AH) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(AI) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(AJ) will be ashamed of them(AK) when he comes(AL) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
