治好瘫子^(A)

2 过了些日子，耶稣再回到迦百农。一听说他在屋子里， ²许多人就都来聚集，甚至连门前都没有地方了，耶稣就对他们讲道。 ³那时有人把一个瘫子带到耶稣那里，是由四个人抬来的。 ⁴因为人挤，不能带到他面前，就对着耶稣所在的地方，拆去房顶；拆通了，就把瘫子连人带褥子缒了下去。 ⁵耶稣看见他们的信心，就对瘫子说：“孩子，你的罪赦了。” ⁶当时有几个经学家也坐在那里，心里议论说： ⁷“这个人为甚么这样说话？他说僭妄的话了。除了　神一位以外，谁能赦罪呢？” ⁸耶稣心里立刻知道他们这样议论，就对他们说：“你们心里为甚么议论这事？ ⁹对瘫子说‘你的罪赦了’，或说‘起来，拿着你的褥子走’，哪一样容易呢？ ¹⁰然而为了要你们知道人子在地上有赦罪的权柄，（他就对瘫子说：） ¹¹我吩咐你，起来，拿起你的褥子，回家去吧。” ¹²那人就起来，立刻拿着褥子，当众出去了。众人都非常惊奇，颂赞　神，说：“我们从来没有见过这样的事。”

呼召利未^(B)

¹³耶稣又出去，到了加利利海边；众人都到他面前来，他就教导他们。 ¹⁴他往前走的时候，看见亚勒腓的儿子利未坐在税关那里，就对他说：“来跟从我！”他就起来跟从了耶稣。 ¹⁵后来耶稣在利未家里吃饭，有很多税吏和罪人也来与他和门徒一起吃饭；因为这样的人很多，并且他们已经跟随了耶稣。 ¹⁶法利赛派的经学家，看见耶稣与罪人和税吏一起吃饭，就对耶稣的门徒说：“他跟税吏和罪人一起吃饭吗？” ¹⁷耶稣听见了，就对他们说：“健康的人不需要医生，有病的人才需要；我来不是要召义人，而是要召罪人。”

新旧的比喻^(C)

¹⁸约翰的门徒和法利赛人正在禁食，有人来问耶稣说：“为甚么约翰的门徒和法利赛人的门徒常常禁食，你的门徒却不禁食呢？” ¹⁹耶稣回答：“新郎跟宾客在一起的时候，宾客怎能禁食呢？只要新郎还在，就不能禁食。 ²⁰但日子到了，新郎要被取去，离开他们，那一天他们就要禁食了。 ²¹没有人会把一块新布缝在旧衣服上，如果这样，新的布就会把旧衣服扯破，裂开的地方就更大了。 ²²也没有人会把新酒装在旧皮袋里，如果这样，酒就会把皮袋胀破，酒和皮袋都损坏了；新酒总该装在新皮袋里。”

安息日的主^(D)

²³有一次，在安息日，耶稣从麦田经过，他的门徒一面走路，一面摘麦穗。 ²⁴法利赛人对耶稣说：“你看，他们为甚么作安息日不可作的事？” ²⁵耶稣对他们说：“大卫和跟他一起的人在饥饿缺食的时候所作的，你们没有念过吗？ ²⁶他不是在亚比亚他作大祭司的时候，进了　神的殿，吃了除祭司以外谁都不可以吃的陈设饼，而且还给跟他在一起的人吃吗？” ²⁷耶稣又告诉他们：“安息日是为人设立的，人并不是为安息日设立的。 ²⁸这样，人子也是安息日的主。”

治好手枯的人^(E)

3 耶稣又进了会堂，在那里有一个人，他的一只手枯干了。 ²众人窥探他会不会在安息日医治那个人，好去控告他。 ³耶稣对那一只手枯干了的人说：“起来，站在当中！” ⁴又对他们说：“在安息日哪一样是可以作的呢：作好事还是坏事？救命还是害命？”他们一声不响。 ⁵耶稣怒目环视他们，因他们的心刚硬而难过，就对那人说：“伸出手来！”他把手一伸，手就复原了。 ⁶法利赛人出来，立刻和希律党人商量怎样对付耶稣，好除掉他。

许多人到海边找耶稣^(F)

⁷耶稣和门徒退到海边去，一大群从加利利来的人跟着他； ⁸还有许多人听见他所作的一切事，就从犹太、耶路撒冷、以土迈、约旦河外和推罗、西顿一带地方来到他跟前。 ⁹因为人多，耶稣就吩咐门徒为他预备一只小船，免得众人拥挤他。 ¹⁰他医好了许多人，所以凡有病的都挤过来要摸他。 ¹¹污灵每次看到他，就仆倒在他面前，大声喊叫说：“你是　神的儿子！” ¹²耶稣再三严厉地吩咐他们，不要把他的身分张扬出去。

选立十二使徒^(G)

¹³耶稣上了山，呼召自己所要的人，他们就来了。 ¹⁴他选立了十二个人，称他们为使徒（有些抄本无“称他们为使徒”一句），要他们跟自己常在一起，好差遣他们去传道， ¹⁵又有权柄赶鬼。 ¹⁶他选立的十二个人是：西门（耶稣给他起名叫彼得）， ¹⁷西庇太的儿子雅各，和雅各的弟弟约翰（耶稣给他们二人起名叫半尼其，就是“雷子”的意思）， ¹⁸安得烈、腓力、巴多罗迈、马太、多马、亚勒腓的儿子雅各、达太、激进派的西门， ¹⁹以及加略人犹大，就是出卖耶稣的那个人。

亵渎圣灵的罪不得赦免^(H)

²⁰耶稣进了屋子，群众又聚了来，以致他们连饭都不能吃， ²¹那些和他在一起的人听见了，就出来抓住他，因为他们说他癫狂了。

²²从耶路撒冷下来的经学家说：“他有别西卜附在身上！”又说：“他靠着鬼王赶鬼。” ²³耶稣把他们叫来，用比喻对他们说：“撒但怎能赶逐撒但呢？ ²⁴一国若自相纷争，那国就站立不住； ²⁵一家若自相纷争，那家就站立不住。 ²⁶如果撒但自相攻打纷争，不但站立不住，而且还要灭亡。 ²⁷谁都不能进入壮汉的家，抢夺他的财物，除非先把壮汉捆绑起来，才可以抢劫他的家。 ²⁸我实在告诉你们，世人的一切罪和一切亵渎的话，都可以得到赦免； ²⁹但亵渎圣灵的，就永世不得赦免，他还要担当罪恶到永远。” ³⁰耶稣说这话，是因为他们说他有污灵附在身上。

谁是耶稣的母亲和弟兄^(I)

³¹耶稣的母亲和弟弟来了，站在外面，传话给他，叫他出来。 ³²有许多人正围坐在耶稣身边，他们告诉他：“你看，你的母亲和弟弟（有些抄本在此有“妹妹”一词）在外面找你。” ³³耶稣回答他们：“谁是我的母亲，我的弟兄呢？” ³⁴于是四面观看那些围坐的人，说：“你们看，我的母亲！我的弟兄！ ³⁵凡遵行　神旨意的，就是我的弟兄姊妹和母亲了。”

撒种的比喻^(J)

4 耶稣又在海边教导人。有一大群人聚集到他那里，因此他上船坐下来。船在海中，群众都朝着海站在岸上。 ²他用比喻教训他们许多事，在教训中他说： ³“你们听着！有一个撒种的出去撒种， ⁴撒的时候，有的落在路旁，小鸟飞来就吃掉了。 ⁵有的落在泥土不多的石地上，因为泥土不深，很快就长起来。 ⁶但太阳一出来，就把它晒干，又因为没有根就枯萎了。 ⁷有的落在荆棘里，荆棘长起来，把它挤住，它就结不出果实来。 ⁸有的落在好土里，就生长繁茂，结出果实，有三十倍的、有六十倍的、有一百倍的。” ⁹耶稣又说：“有耳可听的，就应当听。”

用比喻的目的^(K)

¹⁰耶稣独自一人的时候，那些经常跟着他的人和十二门徒，来问这些比喻的意义。 ¹¹耶稣对他们说：“　神的国的奥秘，只给你们知道，但对于外人，一切都用比喻， ¹²叫他们

‘看是看见了，却不领悟，

听是听见了，却不明白，

免得他们回转过来，得到赦免。’”

解释撒种的比喻^(L)

¹³耶稣又对他们说：“你们不明白这个比喻，怎能明白一切比喻呢？ ¹⁴撒种的人所撒的就是道。 ¹⁵那撒在路旁的，就是人听了道，撒但立刻来，把撒在他心里的道夺去。 ¹⁶照样，那撒在石地上的，就是人听了道，立刻欢欢喜喜地接受了； ¹⁷可是他们里面没有根，只是暂时的；一旦为道遭遇患难，受到迫害，就立刻跌倒了。 ¹⁸那撒在荆棘里的，是指另一些人；他们听了道， ¹⁹然而今世的忧虑、财富的迷惑，以及种种的欲望，接连进来，把道挤住，就结不出果实来。 ²⁰那撒在好土里的，就是人听了道，接受了，并且结出果实，有三十倍的、有六十倍的、有一百倍的。”

隐藏的事终必显露^(M)

²¹耶稣又对他们说：“灯难道是拿来放在量器底下或床底下的吗？它不是该放在灯台上吗？ ²²因为没有甚么隐藏的事不被显明出来，没有甚么掩盖的事不被揭露的。 ²³有耳可听的，就应当听。”

²⁴耶稣又对他们说：“要留心你们所听到的，你们用甚么尺度量给人，　神也要用甚么尺度量给你们，并且要超过尺度给你们。 ²⁵因为那有的，还要给他；那没有的，就算他有甚么也要拿去。”

种子发芽生长的比喻

²⁶耶稣说：“　神的国好象人在地里撒种， ²⁷他夜里睡觉，白天起来，种子发芽生长，自己也不知道怎么会这样的。 ²⁸地生五谷是自然的，先长苗，后吐穗，最后穗上结满了子粒。 ²⁹庄稼熟了，就派人用镰刀割下，因为收成的时候到了。”

芥菜种的比喻^(N)

³⁰又说：“我们要把　神的国比作甚么呢？我们可以用甚么比喻来形容它呢？ ³¹它好象一粒芥菜种，刚种下去的时候，比地上的一切种子都小， ³²种下以后，生长起来，却比一切蔬菜都大，长出大枝子，甚至天空的飞鸟都可以在它的荫下搭窝。”

³³耶稣用许多这样的比喻，照着他们所能听懂的，向他们讲道； ³⁴不用比喻，就不对他们讲。只有单独和自己的门徒在一起的时候，才把一切解释给他们听。

平静风浪^(O)

³⁵当天黄昏，耶稣对门徒说：“我们渡到海那边去吧。” ³⁶门徒离开群众，耶稣已经在船上，他们就载他过去，也有别的船和他同去。 ³⁷忽然起了狂风，波浪不断地打进船来，舱里积满了水。 ³⁸耶稣却在船尾靠着枕头睡着了。门徒把他叫醒，对他说：“老师，我们要死了，你不管吗？” ³⁹耶稣起来，斥责了风，又对海说：“不要作声！安静吧！”风就停止，大大地平静了。 ⁴⁰然后对他们说：“为甚么这样胆怯呢？你们怎么没有信心呢？” ⁴¹门徒非常惧怕，彼此说：“这到底是谁，连风和海都听从他？”

治好鬼附的格拉森人^(P)

5 他们到了海的那边，进入格拉森人的地区。 ²耶稣一下船，就有一个被污灵附着的人，从墓地里迎面而来。 ³那人经常住在坟墓中间，从来没有人能绑住他，甚至用锁炼都不能。 ⁴曾经有很多次，人用脚镣和锁炼捆绑他，锁炼却被他挣断，脚镣也被他弄碎，始终没有人能制伏他。 ⁵他昼夜在坟墓里和山野间喊叫，又用石头砍自己。 ⁶他远远地看见耶稣，就跑过去拜他， ⁷大声呼叫，说：“至高　神的儿子耶稣，我跟你有甚么关系呢？我指着　神恳求你，不要叫我受苦。” ⁸因为当时耶稣吩咐他：“你这污灵，从这人身上出来！” ⁹耶稣问他：“你叫甚么名字？”他回答：“我名叫‘群’，因为我们众多。” ¹⁰他再三央求耶稣，不要把他们从那地方赶走。 ¹¹附近的山坡上有一大群猪正在吃东西； ¹²污灵求耶稣说：“打发我们到猪群那里附在猪身上吧。” ¹³耶稣准了他们。污灵就出来，进到猪群里去，于是那群猪闯下山崖，掉在海里淹死了，猪的数目约有两千。 ¹⁴放猪的人都逃跑了，到城里和各乡村去报告，大家就来看发生了甚么事。 ¹⁵他们来到耶稣跟前，看见那被鬼附过的人，就是曾被名叫‘群’的鬼附过的人，坐在那里，穿上了衣服，神志清醒，他们就害怕。 ¹⁶看见的人把被鬼附过的人所遭遇的和那群猪的事，告诉了他们。 ¹⁷他们就要求耶稣离开他们的地区。 ¹⁸耶稣上船的时候，那被鬼附过的人来求他，要和他在一起。 ¹⁹耶稣不许，却对他说：“你回家到你的亲属那里去，把主为你作了多么大的事，并他怎样怜悯你，都告诉他们。” ²⁰那人就走了，开始在低加波利传讲耶稣为他所作的大事，众人都希奇。

治好血漏病的女人^(Q)

²¹耶稣又坐船渡到那边；还在海边的时候，有一大群人向他围拢过来。 ²²当时来了一位会堂的主管，名叫叶鲁。他一看见耶稣，就俯伏在他脚前， ²³迫切地求他说：“我的小女儿快要死了，请你来按手在她身上，把她救活。” ²⁴耶稣就和他一起去了。

一大群人跟着他，拥挤着他。 ²⁵有一个女人，患了十二年的血漏病， ²⁶在好些医生手中受了许多痛苦，又花尽了她一切所有的，不仅毫无起色，反而更加沉重。 ²⁷她听见耶稣的事，就从后面来杂在人群中间，摸耶稣的衣服。 ²⁸因为她说：“只要摸到他的衣服，我就必痊愈。” ²⁹于是她血漏的源头立刻干了，她在身体上感觉到病已经得了医治。 ³⁰耶稣自己立刻觉得有能力从他里面出去，就转过身来对群众说：“谁摸了我的衣服？” ³¹门徒对他说：“你看，这么多人拥挤你，你还问‘谁摸我’吗？” ³²耶稣周围观看，要看作这事的女人。 ³³那女人知道在她身上所成就的事，就恐惧战兢地前来向耶稣俯伏，把实情全告诉了他。 ³⁴耶稣对她说：“女儿，你的信使你痊愈了，平安地回去吧，你的病已经好了。”

使女孩复活^(R)

³⁵耶稣还在说话的时候，有人从会堂主管的家里来说：“你的女儿已经死了，何必还劳动老师呢？” ³⁶耶稣听见所说的话，就对会堂主管说：“不要怕！只要信！” ³⁷于是他不许别人跟他一起去，只带了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟约翰。 ³⁸他们来到会堂主管的家，耶稣看见许多人哭泣哀号，一片混乱， ³⁹就走进去，对众人说：“为甚么大哭大嚷呢？孩子不是死了，是睡着了。” ⁴⁰众人就嘲笑他。耶稣把众人都赶出去，带着孩子的父母和跟随他的门徒，进入孩子所在的房间。 ⁴¹耶稣拉着孩子的手，对她说：“大利大，古米！”翻译出来就是：“小女孩，我吩咐你起来！” ⁴²那女孩子就立刻起来行走；那时她已经十二岁了。众人就非常惊奇。 ⁴³耶稣再三嘱咐他们，不要让人知道这事，又吩咐给她东西吃。

耶稣在本乡遭人厌弃^(S)

6 耶稣离开那里，来到自己的家乡，他的门徒跟着他。 ²到了安息日，他开始在会堂里教导人；很多人听见了，都惊奇地说：“这个人从哪里得来这一切呢？所赐给他的是怎么样的智慧，竟然借着他的手行出这样的神迹？ ³这不是那木匠吗？不是马利亚的儿子，雅各、约西、犹大、西门的哥哥吗？他的妹妹们不也在我们这里吗？”他们就厌弃耶稣。 ⁴耶稣对他们说：“先知除了在自己的本乡、本族、本家之外，没有不受人尊敬的。” ⁵耶稣不能在那里行甚么神迹，只给几个病人按手，医好了他们。 ⁶对于那些人的不信，他感到诧异。

差遣十二使徒^(T)

耶稣到周围的乡村去继续教导人。 ⁷他把十二门徒叫来，差遣他们两个两个地出去，赐给他们胜过污灵的权柄； ⁸吩咐他们说：“除了手杖以外，路上甚么都不要带，不要带干粮，不要带口袋，腰袋里也不要带钱， ⁹只穿一双鞋，不要穿两件衣服。” ¹⁰又对他们说：“你们无论到哪里，进了一家就住在那家，直到离开那个地方。 ¹¹甚么地方不接待你们，不听你们，你们离开那地方的时候，就要把脚上的灰尘跺下去，作为反对他们的见证。” ¹²门徒就出去传道，叫人悔改， ¹³赶出许多鬼，用油抹了许多病人，医好他们。

施洗约翰被杀^(U)

¹⁴当时耶稣的名声传扬出去，希律王也听到了。有人说：“施洗的约翰从死人中复活了，所以他身上有行神迹的能力。” ¹⁵又有人说：“他是以利亚。”还有人说：“他是先知，像古时先知中的一位。” ¹⁶希律听见就说：“是约翰，我砍了他的头，他又活了！” ¹⁷原来希律曾亲自派人去捉拿约翰，把他捆锁在监里。他这样作，是为了他弟弟的妻子希罗底的缘故，因为他娶了希罗底为妻， ¹⁸而约翰曾对希律说：“你占有你兄弟的妻子是不合理的。” ¹⁹于是希罗底怀恨在心，想要杀他，只是不能。 ²⁰因为希律惧怕约翰，知道他是公义圣洁的人，就保护他。希律听了约翰的话，就非常困扰，却仍然喜欢听他。 ²¹有一天，机会来了。在希律生日的那一天，他为大臣、千夫长和加利利的要人摆设了筵席。 ²²希罗底的女儿进来跳舞，使希律和在座的宾客都很开心。王就对女孩子说：“你无论想要甚么，只管向我求，我一定给你！” ²³并且对她再三起誓：“你无论向我求甚么，就是我国的一半，我也一定给你！” ²⁴于是她出去问母亲：“我该求甚么呢？”希罗底告诉她：“施洗的约翰的头！” ²⁵她急忙到王面前，向王要求说：“愿王立刻把施洗的约翰的头放在盘子上给我！” ²⁶希律王非常忧愁，但是因为他的誓言和在座的宾客，就不愿拒绝她。 ²⁷希律王立刻差遣一个侍卫，吩咐把约翰的头拿来。侍卫就去了，在监里斩了约翰的头， ²⁸把头放在盘子上，拿来交给那女孩子，女孩子又交给她的母亲。 ²⁹约翰的门徒听见了，就来把他的尸体领去，安放在坟墓里。

给五千人吃饱的神迹^(V)

³⁰使徒们回来聚集在耶稣跟前，把他们所作和所教导的一切都报告给他听。 ³¹耶稣对他们说：“来，你们自己到旷野去休息一下。”因为来往的人多，他们甚至没有时间吃饭。 ³²他们就悄悄地上了船，到旷野去了。 ³³群众看见他们走了，有许多人认出了他们，就从各城出来，跑到那里，比他们先赶到。 ³⁴耶稣一下船，看见一大群人，就怜悯他们，因为他们好象羊没有牧人一样，就开始教导他们许多事。 ³⁵天晚了，门徒前来对他说：“这里是旷野的地方，天已经很晚了， ³⁶请叫他们散开，好让他们往周围的田舍村庄去，自己买点东西吃。” ³⁷耶稣回答他们：“你们给他们吃吧！”门徒说：“要我们去买两百银币的饼给他们吃吗？” ³⁸耶稣说：“去看看你们有多少饼！”他们知道了，就说：“五个饼，还有两条鱼。” ³⁹耶稣吩咐他们叫大家分组坐在青草地上。 ⁴⁰他们就一排一排地坐了下来，有一百的，有五十的。 ⁴¹耶稣拿起这五个饼、两条鱼，望着天，祝谢了；然后把饼擘开，递给门徒摆在群众面前，又把两条鱼也分给群众。 ⁴²大家都吃了，并且吃饱了。 ⁴³他们把剩下的零碎捡起来，装满了十二个篮子， ⁴⁴吃饼的人，男人就有五千。

耶稣在海面上行走^(W)

⁴⁵事后耶稣立刻催门徒上船，叫他们先渡到对岸的伯赛大去，等他自己叫众人散开。 ⁴⁶他离开了他们，就上山去祷告。 ⁴⁷到了晚上，船在海中，耶稣独自在岸上， ⁴⁸看见门徒辛辛苦苦地摇橹，因为风不顺。天快亮的时候（“天快亮的时候”原文作“夜里四更天”），耶稣在海面上向他们走去，想要赶过他们。 ⁴⁹门徒看见他在海面上走，以为是鬼怪，就喊叫起来； ⁵⁰因为他们都看见了他，非常恐惧。耶稣立刻对他们说：“放心吧！是我，不要怕。” ⁵¹于是上了船，和他们在一起，风就平静了。门徒心里十分惊奇， ⁵²因为他们还不明白分饼这件事的意义，他们的心还是迟钝。

治好革尼撒勒的病人^(X)

⁵³他们渡过了海，就在革尼撒勒靠岸， ⁵⁴一下船，众人立刻认出耶稣来， ⁵⁵就跑遍那一带地方，把有病的人放在褥子上，听见他在哪里，就抬到哪里。 ⁵⁶耶稣无论到甚么地方，或村庄，或城市，或乡野，众人都把病人放在街上，求耶稣准他们摸他衣服的繸子，摸着的人就都好了。

不可因传统废弃　神的诫命^(Y)

7 有法利赛人和几个经学家从耶路撒冷来，聚集到耶稣那里。 ²他们看见他的门徒有人用不洁的手，就是没有洗过的手吃饭， ³（原来法利赛人和所有的犹太人都拘守古人的传统，如果不认真洗手，就不吃东西； ⁴从街市回来，若不洗手，就不吃东西，还有许多别的传统，他们都沿袭拘守，例如洗杯、洗罐、洗铜器等等。） ⁵法利赛人和经学家问耶稣：“你的门徒为甚么不遵行古人的传统，用不洁的手吃饭呢？” ⁶耶稣对他们说：“以赛亚指着你们这班伪君子所说的预言是对的，经上记着：

‘这人民用嘴唇尊敬我，

心却远离我；

⁷他们把人的规条当作道理去教导人，

所以拜我也是徒然。’

⁸你们拘守着人的传统，却离弃了　神的诫命。” ⁹耶稣又对他们说：“你们为了坚守自己的传统，而巧妙地把　神的诫命拒绝了。 ¹⁰因为摩西说：‘当孝敬父母’，又说：‘咒骂父母的，必被处死。’ ¹¹你们倒说：‘人对父母说，我应该给你的供奉，已经作了各耳板’（各耳板意思是奉给　神的供物）， ¹²你们就不让那人再为父母作甚么。 ¹³这样，你们借着所领受的传统，把　神的话废弃了。你们还作了许多这一类的事。”

¹⁴于是耶稣又把群众叫过来，对他们说：“你们大家都要听我说，也要明白： ¹⁵从外面进去的，不能使人污秽，从里面出来的，才能使人污秽。”（有些抄本有第16节：“有耳可听的，就应该听。”） ¹⁷耶稣离开群众，进了屋子，门徒就来问他这比喻的意思。 ¹⁸他对他们说：“连你们也是这样不明白吗？难道不知道从外面进去的，不能使人污秽吗？ ¹⁹因为不是进到他的心，而是进到他的肚腹，再排泄到外面（“外面”或译：“厕所”）去。”（他这样说是表示各样食物都是洁净的。） ²⁰接着他又说：“从人里面出来的，才会使人污秽。 ²¹因为从里面，就是从人的心里，发出恶念、淫乱、偷盗、凶杀、 ²²奸淫、贪心、邪恶、诡诈、放荡、嫉妒、毁谤、骄傲、愚妄； ²³这一切恶事，是从人里面出来的，都能使人污秽。”

叙利亚妇人的信心^(Z)

²⁴耶稣从那里动身到推罗（有些抄本在此有“和西顿”）境内去。进了一所房子，本来不想让人知道，却隐藏不住。 ²⁵有一个女人，她的小女儿被污灵附着，她听见了耶稣的事，就来俯伏在他脚前。 ²⁶这女人是外族人，属于叙利亚的腓尼基族。她求耶稣把鬼从她女儿身上赶出去。 ²⁷耶稣对她说：“应该先让儿女吃饱。拿儿女的饼去丢给小狗吃是不好的。” ²⁸那女人回答他：“主啊，是的，不过小狗在桌子底下，也可以吃孩子们掉下来的碎渣。” ²⁹耶稣对她说：“就凭这句话，你回去吧，鬼已经从你女儿身上出去了。” ³⁰她回到家里，看见小孩子躺在床上，鬼已经出去了。

治好又聋又哑的人^(AA)

³¹耶稣从推罗境内出去，经过西顿，回到低加波利地区的加利利海。 ³²有人带着一个又聋又哑的人到他那里，求耶稣按手在他身上。 ³³耶稣把他从人群中带到一边，用指头探他的耳朵，吐唾沫抹他的舌头， ³⁴然后望着天，长长地叹了一口气，对他说：“以法大！”意思是“开了吧”。 ³⁵那人的耳朵就开了，舌头也松了，说话也准确了。 ³⁶耶稣嘱咐他们不要告诉人。但他越是嘱咐，他们却越发传扬。 ³⁷众人非常惊讶说：“他所作的一切事都好极了；他竟然使聋子听见，又使哑巴说话。”

给四千人吃饱的神迹^(AB)

8 那些日子，又有一大群人聚集，他们没有甚么东西吃。耶稣叫门徒来，对他们说： ²“我怜悯这一群人，因为他们和我在一起已经有三天，没有甚么吃的了。 ³如果我叫他们散开，饿着肚子回家去，他们会在路上晕倒，因为有人是从很远的地方来的。” ⁴门徒回答：“在这旷野地方，从哪里能找食物叫这些人吃饱呢？” ⁵他问他们：“你们有多少饼？”他们说：“七个。” ⁶耶稣吩咐群众坐在地上；拿起那七个饼，祝谢了，擘开递给门徒，叫他们摆开；门徒就摆在众人面前， ⁷他们还有几条小鱼，耶稣祝了福，就吩咐把这些也摆开。 ⁸众人都吃了，并吃饱了。他们把剩下的零碎收拾起来，装满了七个大篮子。 ⁹当时人数约有四千。耶稣解散了群众， ¹⁰就立刻和门徒上了船，来到大玛努他地区。

求耶稣显神迹^(AC)

¹¹法利赛人出来，跟耶稣辩论；他们想试探他，求他显个从天上来的神迹。 ¹²耶稣灵里深深地叹息，说：“这世代为甚么总是寻求神迹？我实在告诉你们，决不会有神迹显给这个世代的！” ¹³于是他离开他们，又上船往对岸去了。

提防法利赛人和希律的酵^(AD)

¹⁴门徒忘了带饼，船上除了一个饼，身边没有别的了。 ¹⁵耶稣嘱咐他们说：“你们要小心，提防法利赛人的酵和希律的酵！” ¹⁶门徒彼此议论说：“这是因为我们没有饼吧？” ¹⁷耶稣知道了，就说：“为甚么议论没有饼这件事呢？你们还不知道，还不明白吗？你们的心还是这么迟钝吗？ ¹⁸你们有眼不能看，有耳不能听吗？你们不记得吗？ ¹⁹我擘开那五个饼给五千人吃，你们收拾的零碎装满了几个篮子呢？”他们说：“十二个。” ²⁰“那七个饼分给四千人吃，你们收拾的零碎装满了几个大篮子呢？”他们说：“七个。” ²¹耶稣说：“你们还不明白吗？”

治好伯赛大瞎眼的人

²²后来他们到了伯赛大，有人带了一个瞎眼的人到他跟前，求耶稣摸他。 ²³耶稣拉着他的手，领他到村外，吐唾沫在他的眼睛上，又用双手按在他的身上，问他：“你看见甚么没有？” ²⁴他往上一看，说：“我看见人了！看见他们好象树走来走去。” ²⁵于是耶稣再按手在他的眼睛上，他定睛一看，就复原了，样样都看得清楚了。 ²⁶耶稣叫他回家去，说：“连这村子你也不要进去。”

彼得承认耶稣是基督^(AE)

²⁷耶稣和门徒出去，要到该撒利亚．腓立比附近的村庄。在路上他问门徒说：“人说我是谁？” ²⁸他们回答：“有人说是施洗的约翰；有人说是以利亚；还有人说是先知里的一位。” ²⁹他又问他们说：“那么你们呢？你们说我是谁？”彼得回答：“你就是基督。” ³⁰耶稣郑重地嘱咐他们，不要把他的事告诉人。

耶稣预言受难及复活^(AF)

³¹于是他教导他们，人子必须受许多苦，被长老、祭司长和经学家弃绝、杀害，三天后复活。 ³²耶稣坦白地说了这话，彼得就把他拉到一边，责怪他。 ³³耶稣转过身来，望着门徒，斥责彼得说：“撒但，退到我后面去！因为你不思念　神的事，只思念人的事。” ³⁴于是把众人和门徒都叫过来，对他们说：“如果有人愿意跟从我，就应当舍己，背起他的十字架来跟从我。 ³⁵凡是想救自己生命的，必丧掉生命；但为我和福音牺牲生命的，必救了生命。 ³⁶人就是赚得全世界，却赔上自己的生命，有甚么好处呢？ ³⁷人还能用甚么换回自己的生命呢？ ³⁸在淫乱罪恶的世代，凡把我和我的道当作可耻的，人子在他父的荣耀里，和圣天使一起降临的时候，也必把他当作可耻的。”

9 耶稣又对他们说：“我实在告诉你们，站在这里的，有人在没有尝过死味以前，必定看见　神的国带着能力降临。”

在山上改变形象^(AG)

²过了六天，耶稣带着彼得、雅各、约翰，领他们悄悄地上了高山，在他们面前改变了形象。 ³他的衣服闪耀发光，极其洁白，地上漂布的没有能漂得这样白的。 ⁴又有以利亚和摩西向他们显现，并且跟耶稣谈话。 ⁵彼得对耶稣说：“拉比，我们在这里真好！我们可以搭三个帐棚，一个为你，一个为摩西，一个为以利亚。” ⁶彼得不知道该说甚么才好，因为他们都非常害怕。 ⁷有一片云彩来，笼罩他们，又有声音从云中出来：“这是我的爱子，你们要听他。” ⁸门徒立刻周围观看，再也看不见别的人，只见耶稣单独和他们在一起。

⁹他们下山的时候，耶稣吩咐他们，人子从死人中复活之前，不要把所看见的告诉人。 ¹⁰门徒把这句话记在心里，又彼此讨论从死人中复活是甚么意思。 ¹¹他们就问耶稣：“经学家为甚么说以利亚必须先来呢？” ¹²耶稣说：“以利亚固然要先来复兴一切，但圣经为甚么又记载人子要受许多苦，被人藐视呢？ ¹³其实我告诉你们，以利亚已经来了，他们却任意待他，正如经上指着他所说的。”

治好癫痫病的小孩^(AH)

¹⁴他们回到门徒那里，看见一大群人围着他们，又有经学家和他们辩论。 ¹⁵众人看见了耶稣，都很惊奇，就跑上前去向他问安。 ¹⁶他问他们：“你们和他们辩论甚么？” ¹⁷群众当中有一个回答他：“老师，我把我的儿子带到你这里来，他被哑巴鬼附着。 ¹⁸无论在哪里，鬼抓住他，把他摔倒，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齿，浑身僵硬。我请你的门徒把鬼赶出去，他们却办不到。” ¹⁹耶稣回答他们：“唉！不信的世代啊！我跟你们在一起到几时呢？我要忍受你们到几时呢？把他带到我这里来吧。” ²⁰他们就把孩子带到他跟前。那鬼一见耶稣，就立刻使孩子抽了一阵疯，倒在地上，流着唾沫打滚。 ²¹耶稣问他父亲：“这事临到他有多久了？”他说：“从小就是这样。 ²²鬼常常把他扔在火里水中，要毁灭他。如果你能作甚么，求你可怜我们，帮助我们。” ²³耶稣对他说：“‘如果你能’（“如果你能”有些抄本作“你若能信”）—对于信的人，甚么都能！” ²⁴孩子的父亲立刻喊着说：“我信！但我的信心不够，求你帮助我。” ²⁵耶稣看见群众围拢了来，就斥责那污鬼说：“聋哑的鬼，我吩咐你从他身上出来，不要再进去。” ²⁶那鬼大声喊叫，使孩子重重地抽了一阵疯，就出来了。孩子好象死了一样，所以许多人都说：“他死了！” ²⁷但耶稣拉着他的手，扶他起来，他就站起来了。 ²⁸耶稣进了屋子，门徒私下问他说：“为甚么我们不能把那污鬼赶出去呢？” ²⁹耶稣对他们说：“这一类的鬼，非用祷告是赶不出去的。”

第二次预言受难及复活^(AI)

³⁰他们从那里出去，经过加利利，耶稣不想让人知道， ³¹因为他正在教导门徒。他又对他们说：“人子将要被交在人的手里，他们要杀害他，死后三天他要复活。” ³²门徒不明白这话，又不敢问他。

门徒争论谁最大^(AJ)

³³他们来到迦百农。在屋里的时候，耶稣问他们：“你们在路上争论甚么？” ³⁴门徒一声不响，因为他们在路上彼此争论谁为大。 ³⁵耶稣坐下，叫十二门徒来，对他们说：“谁想为首，就该作众人中最末的一个，作众人的仆人。” ³⁶于是拉过一个小孩子来，叫他站在门徒中间，又把他抱起来，对他们说： ³⁷“凡因我的名接待一个这样的小孩子的，就是接待我；凡接待我的，不是接待我，而是接待那差我来的。”

反对与赞成^(AK)

³⁸约翰对耶稣说：“老师，我们看见有一个人奉你的名赶鬼，就禁止他，因为他不跟从我们。” ³⁹耶稣说：“不要禁止他，因为没有人能奉我的名行了神迹，又立刻毁谤我。 ⁴⁰不反对我们的，就是赞成我们的。 ⁴¹无论谁因你们有属基督的名分，给你们一杯水喝的，我实在告诉你们，他决不会失掉赏赐。

坚拒使人犯罪^(AL)

⁴²“如果有人使一个信我的小弟兄犯罪，倒不如在他的颈项上拴一块大磨石投在海里。 ⁴³如果你的一只手使你犯罪，就把它砍下来。你身体残废进永生，总比有两只手下到地狱，进入那不灭的火里好得多。（有些抄本有第44节“在那里虫是不死的，火是不灭的。”） ⁴⁵如果你的一只脚使你犯罪，就把它砍下来。你瘸腿进永生，总比你有两只脚而被丢在地狱里好得多。（有些抄本有第46节“在那里虫是不死的，火是不灭的。”） ⁴⁷如果你的一只眼睛使你犯罪，就把它挖出来。你只有一只眼睛进　神的国，总比你有两只眼睛而被丢在地狱里好得多， ⁴⁸在那里虫是不死的，火是不灭的。 ⁴⁹每一个人必被火当盐来腌。（有些抄本在此有“各祭物必用盐来腌”一句；也有些抄本只有附注的一句，而没有正文的一句） ⁵⁰盐是好的，但如果失了味，可以用甚么使它再咸呢？你们自己里面应当有盐，彼此和睦。”

　神配合的人不可分开^(AM)

10 耶稣从那里动身，来到约旦河东的犹太境内。许多人又聚集到他那里，他像平常一样教导他们。 ²有法利赛人前来试探耶稣，问他：“丈夫可以休妻吗？” ³耶稣回答：“摩西吩咐你们的是甚么呢？” ⁴他们说：“摩西准许‘人写了休书就可以休妻’。” ⁵耶稣说：“因为你们的心硬，摩西才写这条例给你们。 ⁶但从起初创造的时候，　神是‘造男造女’。 ⁷‘因此人要离开父母，与妻子连合， ⁸二人成为一体了。’这样，他们不再是两个人，而是一体的了。 ⁹所以　神所配合的，人不可分开。” ¹⁰回到屋子里，门徒再提起这件事来问他。 ¹¹他对他们说：“谁休妻另娶，谁就是犯奸淫，得罪了妻子。 ¹²如果妻子弃夫另嫁，也是犯了奸淫。”

为小孩子按手祝福^(AN)

¹³有人带着小孩子到耶稣跟前，要他触摸他们；门徒却责备那些人。 ¹⁴耶稣看见了就生气，对门徒说：“让小孩子到我这里来，不要禁止他们，因为　神的国是属于这样的人的。 ¹⁵我实在告诉你们，凡是不像小孩子一样接受　神的国的，绝对不能进去。” ¹⁶于是耶稣把小孩子抱起来，为他们按手祝福。

有钱的人难进　神的国^(AO)

¹⁷耶稣又开始他的行程。那时，有一个人跑过来，跪在他面前，问他说：“良善的老师，我当作甚么，才可以承受永生？” ¹⁸耶稣对他说：“你为甚么称我是良善的？除了　神一位以外，没有良善的。 ¹⁹诫命你是知道的：不可杀人，不可奸淫，不可偷盗，不可作假证供，不可欺诈，当孝敬父母。” ²⁰他对耶稣说：“老师，这一切我从小都遵守了。” ²¹耶稣看着他，就爱他，对他说：“你还缺少一件：去变卖你所有的，分给穷人，就必定有财宝在天上，而且你要来跟从我。” ²²那人听见这话，就变了脸色，忧忧愁愁地走了，因为他的财产很多。

²³耶稣周围观看，对门徒说：“富有的人要进　神的国，是多么难哪！” ²⁴门徒都希奇他的话，耶稣又对他们说：“孩子们哪，（有些抄本在此有“倚靠钱财的人”一句）要进　神的国，是多么困难！ ²⁵骆驼穿过针眼，比有钱的人进　神的国还容易呢！” ²⁶门徒就更加惊奇，彼此说：“这样，谁可以得救呢？” ²⁷耶稣看着他们，说：“在人不能，在　神却不然，因为在　神凡事都能。” ²⁸彼得对他说：“你看，我们已经舍弃了一切，而且来跟从你了。” ²⁹耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，人为着我和福音舍弃了房屋、弟兄、姊妹、母亲、父亲、儿女、田地， ³⁰没有不在今生得百倍─就是房屋、弟兄、姊妹、母亲、儿女、田地，同时要受迫害─在来世还要得永生。 ³¹然而许多在前的将要在后，在后的将要在前。”

第三次预言受难及复活^(AP)

³²在上耶路撒冷的路途中，耶稣走在前面，门徒希奇，跟从的人也害怕。耶稣又把十二门徒带到一边，把自己将要遭遇的事告诉他们， ³³说：“我们现在上耶路撒冷去，人子要被交给祭司长和经学家，他们要定他的罪，并且把他交给外族人。 ³⁴他们要凌辱他，向他吐唾沫，鞭打他，杀害他，三天以后，他要复活。”

不是要人服事而是要服事人^(AQ)

³⁵西庇太的儿子雅各、约翰，来到耶稣跟前，对他说：“老师，我们无论向你求甚么，愿你为我们作成。” ³⁶耶稣说：“要我为你们作甚么？” ³⁷他们说：“在你的荣耀里，让我们一个坐在你的右边，一个坐在你的左边。” ³⁸耶稣说：“你们不知道你们求的是甚么。我喝的杯，你们能喝吗？我受的洗，你们能受吗？” ³⁹他们说：“能。”耶稣说：“我喝的杯，你们固然要喝；我受的洗，你们也要受。 ⁴⁰只是坐在我的左右，不是我可以赐的，而是　神预备赐给谁，就赐给谁。” ⁴¹其他十个门徒听见了，就向雅各、约翰生气。 ⁴²耶稣把他们叫过来，对他们说：“你们知道各国都有被尊为元首的统治他们，也有官长管辖他们。 ⁴³但你们中间却不要这样；谁想在你们中间为大的，就要作你们的仆役， ⁴⁴谁想在你们中间为首的，就要作大家的奴仆。 ⁴⁵因为人子来，不是要受人服事，而是要服事人，并且要舍命，作许多人的赎价。”

治好瞎眼的巴底买^(AR)

⁴⁶他们进了耶利哥。耶稣、门徒和一大群人从耶利哥出来的时候，有一个瞎眼的人，是底买的儿子，名叫巴底买，坐在路旁讨饭。 ⁴⁷他听见是拿撒勒人耶稣，就喊叫，说：“大卫的子孙耶稣啊，可怜我吧！” ⁴⁸许多人斥责他，叫他不要出声；他却更加放声喊叫：“大卫的子孙啊，可怜我吧！” ⁴⁹耶稣就站住，说：“把他叫过来。”他们就叫那瞎眼的人，对他说：“放心吧，起来，他叫你了。” ⁵⁰他就丢下衣服，跳起来，走到耶稣那里。 ⁵¹耶稣对他说：“你要我为你作甚么呢？”瞎眼的人对他说：“拉波尼，我要能看见。” ⁵²耶稣说：“去吧，你的信使你痊愈了。”他立刻看见了，就在路上跟随耶稣。

骑驴进耶路撒冷^(AS)

11 他们走近耶路撒冷，到了伯法其和伯大尼，来到橄榄山那里，耶稣派了两个门徒， ²对他们说：“你们往对面的村子里去，一进去，就会看见一头小驴拴在那里，是没有人骑过的，把牠解开牵来。 ³如果有人问你们：‘为甚么这样作？’你们就说：‘主需要牠，并且很快会送还到这里来。’” ⁴门徒去了，就发现一头小驴，拴在门外的街上，就把牠解开。 ⁵站在那里的人有的问他们说：“你们为甚么解牠？” ⁶门徒照着耶稣所说的话回答他们，那些人就让他们牵走了。 ⁷门徒把小驴牵到耶稣那里，把自己的衣服搭在上面，耶稣就骑了上去。 ⁸许多人把衣服铺在路上，还有人从田野里砍了些树枝也铺在路上。 ⁹前行后随的人都喊着说：

“‘和散那’，

奉主名来的是应当称颂的！

¹⁰那将要来临的，

我们祖先大卫的国是应当称颂的！

高天之上当唱‘和散那’！”

¹¹耶稣到了耶路撒冷，进入圣殿，察看了一切，因为时候已经不早，就和十二门徒出城往伯大尼去。

咒诅无花果树^(AT)

¹²第二天他们从伯大尼出来，耶稣饿了。 ¹³他远远看见一棵长满了叶子的无花果树，就走过去，看看是否可以在树上找到甚么。到了树下，除了叶子甚么也找不着，因为这不是收无花果的时候。 ¹⁴耶稣对树说：“永远再没有人吃你的果子了！”他的门徒也听见了。

洁净圣殿^(AU)

¹⁵他们来到耶路撒冷。耶稣进了圣殿，就把殿里作买卖的人赶走，又推倒找换银钱的人的桌子，和卖鸽子的人的凳子； ¹⁶不许人拿着器皿穿过圣殿。 ¹⁷他又教训众人说：“经上不是写着

‘我的殿要称为万国祷告的殿’吗？

你们竟把它弄成贼窝了。”

¹⁸祭司长和经学家听见了，就想办法怎样除掉耶稣，却又怕他，因为群众都希奇他的教训。 ¹⁹到了晚上，他们就到城外去。

²⁰早晨，他们经过的时候，看见那棵无花果树连根都枯萎了。 ²¹彼得想起来就对耶稣说：“拉比，请看，你所咒诅的无花果树，已经枯萎了。” ²²耶稣回答他们：“你们对　神要有信心（“你们对　神要有信心”有些抄本作“如果你们对　神有信心”）。 ²³我实在告诉你们，无论甚么人对这座山说‘移开，投到海里’，只要他心里不怀疑，相信他所说的一定能够成就，就必给他成就。 ²⁴所以我告诉你们，凡是你们祷告祈求的，只要相信能够得到，就必得到。 ²⁵你们站着祷告的时候，如果有谁得罪了你们，就该饶恕他，好使你们的天父也饶恕你们的过犯。”（有些抄本有第26节：“如果你们不饶恕人，你们的天父也必不饶恕你们的过犯。”）

质问耶稣凭甚么权柄作事^(AV)

²⁷他们又来到耶路撒冷。耶稣在殿里行走的时候，祭司长、经学家和长老来到他跟前， ²⁸问他：“你凭甚么权柄作这些事？谁给你权柄作这些事？” ²⁹耶稣对他们说：“我要问你们一句话，你们回答了我，我就告诉你们我凭甚么权柄作这些事。 ³⁰约翰的洗礼是从天上来的，还是从人来的呢？你们回答我吧。” ³¹他们就彼此议论：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，他就会说‘那你们为甚么不信他呢？’ ³²如果我们说‘是从人来的’……”他们害怕群众，因为众人都认为约翰的确是先知。 ³³于是他们回答耶稣：“我们不知道。”耶稣对他们说：“我也不告诉你们我凭甚么权柄作这些事。”

佃户的比喻^(AW)

12 耶稣又用比喻对他们说：“有一个人栽种了一个葡萄园，四面围上篱笆，挖了一个压酒池，盖了一座瞭望台，然后租给佃户，就远行去了。 ²到了时候，园主派了一个仆人到佃户那里，向佃户收取葡萄园一部分的果子。 ³佃户抓住他，打了他，放他空手回去。 ⁴园主再派另外一个仆人到他们那里，他们打伤了他的头，并且侮辱他。 ⁵园主又派另一个去，他们就把他杀了。后来又派去许多仆人，有的给他们打了，有的给他们杀了。 ⁶还有一个，就是园主的爱子，最后园主派他到那里去，说：‘他们必尊敬我的儿子。’ ⁷那些佃户却彼此说：‘这是继承产业的；来，我们杀了他，产业就是我们的了。’ ⁸于是抓住他，把他杀了，扔在葡萄园外。 ⁹这样，葡萄园的主人要怎么办呢？他要来除掉那些佃户，把葡萄园租给别人。 ¹⁰你们没有念过这段圣经吗：

‘建筑工人所弃的石头，

成了房角的主要石头；

¹¹这是主所作的，

在我们眼中看为希奇。’”

¹²他们知道他这比喻是针对他们说的，就想要捉拿他，但因为害怕群众，只好离开他走了。

以纳税的事问难耶稣^(AX)

¹³后来，他们派了几个法利赛人和希律党的人到耶稣那里去，要找他的把柄来陷害他。 ¹⁴他们来到了，就对他说：“老师，我们知道你为人诚实，不顾忌任何人，因为你不徇情面，只照着真理把　神的道教导人。请问纳税给凯撒可以不可以？我们该纳不该纳呢？” ¹⁵耶稣看出他们的假意，就对他们说：“你们为甚么试探我呢？拿一个银币来给我，让我看看。” ¹⁶他们就拿来了。耶稣问他们：“这是谁的像，谁的名号？”他们回答他：“凯撒的。” ¹⁷耶稣说：“凯撒的应当归给凯撒，　神的应当归给　神。”他们就对他十分惊奇。

人复活后不娶不嫁^(AY)

¹⁸撒都该人向来认为没有复活的事，他们来到耶稣那里，问他： ¹⁹“老师，摩西曾写给我们说：‘如果一个人死了，留下妻子，没有儿女，他的弟弟就应当娶他的妻子，为哥哥立后。’ ²⁰从前有兄弟七人，头一个娶了妻子，死了，没有留下孩子； ²¹第二个娶了她，也没有留下孩子，就死了；第三个也是这样。 ²²那七个人都没有留下孩子，最后那女人也死了。 ²³到了复活的时候，他们都要复活，她是哪一个的妻子呢？因为七个人都娶过她。” ²⁴耶稣对他们说：“你们错了，不正是因为你们不明白圣经，也不晓得　神的能力吗？ ²⁵因为人从死里复活以后，也不娶，也不嫁，而是像天上的天使一样。 ²⁶关于死人复活的事，摩西的经卷中荆棘篇上，　神怎样对他说：‘我是亚伯拉罕的　神，以撒的　神，雅各的　神’，你们没有念过吗？ ²⁷他不是死人的　神，而是活人的　神。你们是大错特错了！”

最重要的诫命^(AZ)

²⁸有一个经学家，听到他们的辩论，觉得耶稣回答得好，就来问他：“诫命中哪一条是第一重要的呢？” ²⁹耶稣回答：“第一重要的是：‘以色列啊，你要听！主我们的　神是独一的主。 ³⁰你要全心、全性、全意、全力，爱主你的　神。’ ³¹其次是：‘要爱人如己。’再没有别的诫命比这两条更重要的了。” ³²那经学家对耶稣说：“老师，是的，你说的很对，　神是独一的，除了他以外再没有别的　神。 ³³我们要用全心、全意、全力去爱他，并且要爱人如己，这就比一切燔祭和各样祭物好得多了。” ³⁴耶稣见他回答得有智慧，就对他说：“你距离　神的国不远了。”从此再也没有人敢问他了。

大卫称基督为主^(BA)

³⁵耶稣在殿里教训人，说：“经学家怎么说基督是大卫的子孙呢？ ³⁶大卫自己被圣灵感动却说：

‘主对我的主说：

你坐在我的右边，

等我把你的仇敌放在你的脚下（有些抄本作“等我使你的仇敌作你的脚凳”）。’

³⁷大卫自己既然称他为主，他又怎么会是大卫的子孙呢？”群众都喜欢听他。

耶稣叫人提防经学家^(BB)

³⁸耶稣教导人的时候，说：“你们要提防经学家，他们喜欢穿长袍走来走去，喜欢人在市中心向他们问安， ³⁹又喜欢会堂里的高位，筵席上的首座。 ⁴⁰他们吞没了寡妇的房产，又假装作冗长的祷告。这些人必受更重的刑罚。”

穷寡妇的奉献^(BC)

⁴¹耶稣面对银库坐着，看着大家怎样把钱投入库中。许多有钱的人投入很多的钱。 ⁴²后来，有一个穷寡妇来投入了两个小钱，就是一个铜钱。 ⁴³耶稣把门徒叫过来，对他们说：“我实在告诉你们，这穷寡妇投入库里的，比众人投的更多。 ⁴⁴因为他们都是把自己剩余的投入，这寡妇是自己不足，却把她一切所有的，就是全部养生的，都投进去了。”

预言圣殿被毁^(BD)

13 耶稣从殿里出来的时候，有一个门徒对他说：“老师，请看，这是多么美好的石头！多么美好的建筑！” ²耶稣对他说：“你看见这些伟大的建筑吗？将来必没有一块石头留在另一块石头上面，每一块都要拆下来。”

这世代终结的预兆^(BE)

³耶稣在橄榄山上，面对圣殿坐着，彼得、雅各、约翰和安得烈私下问他： ⁴“请告诉我们，甚么时候会有这些事呢？这一切事将要成就的时候有甚么预兆呢？” ⁵耶稣就告诉他们说：“你们要小心，不要被人迷惑。 ⁶有许多人要来，假冒我的名说‘我就是基督’，并且要迷惑许多的人。 ⁷你们听见战争和战争的风声，也不要惊慌，这是免不了的，不过，结局还没有到。 ⁸一个民族要起来攻打另一个民族，一个国家要起来攻打另一个国家，到处要有地震，有饥荒，这些不过是痛苦的开始。 ⁹但你们要小心！因为人要把你们交给公议会，你们要在会堂里被鞭打，又要为我的缘故站在总督和君王面前，向他们作见证。 ¹⁰然而福音必须先传给万民。 ¹¹人把你们捉去送官的时候，用不着预先思虑要说甚么，到那时候赐给你们甚么话，你们就说甚么，因为说话的不是你们，而是圣灵。 ¹²弟兄要出卖弟兄，父亲要出卖儿子，甚至把他们置于死地；儿女要悖逆父母，害死他们。 ¹³你们为我的名，要被众人恨恶，然而坚忍到底的必然得救。

大灾难的日子^(BF)

¹⁴“当你们看见‘那造成荒凉的可憎者’，站在不该站的地方（读者必须领悟），那时，住在犹太的应当逃到山上； ¹⁵在房顶的不要下来，也不要进到屋子里拿甚么东西； ¹⁶在田里的也不要回去取衣服。 ¹⁷当那些日子，怀孕的和乳养孩子的有祸了！ ¹⁸你们应当祈求，不要让这些事在冬天发生。 ¹⁹因为那些日子必有灾难，这是从　神创世的开始到现在未曾有过的，以后也必不会再有。 ²⁰如果不是主减少那些日子，没有一个人可以存活；但是为了自己的选民，他必使那些日子减少。 ²¹那时，如果有人对你们说：‘看哪，基督在这里！看哪，他在那里！’你们不要信。 ²²因为必有假基督和假先知出现，行神迹和奇事，如果可以的话，连选民也要迷惑了。 ²³所以你们应当小心！我已经事先把一切都告诉你们了。

人子必驾云降临^(BG)

²⁴“当那些日子，在那灾难以后，

太阳就变黑了，

月亮也不发光，

²⁵众星从天坠落，

天上的万象震动。

²⁶那时，他们要看见人子，满有能力和荣耀，驾着云降临； ²⁷他要差派天使，把他的选民从四方，从地极直到天边，都招聚来。

²⁸“你们应该从无花果树学个功课：树枝发出嫩芽长出叶子的时候，你们就知道夏天近了。 ²⁹同样，你们甚么时候看见这些事发生，就知道他已经近在门口了。 ³⁰我实在告诉你们，这一切都必会发生，然后这世代才会过去。 ³¹天地都要过去，但我的话决不会废去。

警醒准备^(BH)

³²“至于那日子和时间，没有人知道，连天上的天使和子也不知道，只有父知道。 ³³你们要小心，要警醒，因为你们不知道那日期甚么时候来到。 ³⁴这就像一个人出外远行，把责任（“责任”原文作“权柄”）一一地交给他的仆人，又吩咐看门的要警醒。 ³⁵所以你们要警醒，因为你们不知道家主甚么时候来到，也许在黄昏，也许在半夜，也许在鸡叫时，也许在清晨。 ³⁶恐怕他忽然来到，发现你们正在睡觉。 ³⁷我对你们所说的话，也是对众人说的，‘你们要警醒’。”

商议怎样杀害耶稣^(BI)

14 过两天，就是逾越节和除酵节了，祭司长和经学家设法怎样用诡计逮捕耶稣，把他杀害。 ²不过他们说：“不可在节期下手，免得引起民众暴动。”

伯大尼妇人用香膏膏主^(BJ)

³耶稣在伯大尼，在患痲风的西门家里吃饭的时候，有一个女人来了，拿着一瓶珍贵的纯哪哒香膏。她打破了瓶，把香膏浇在耶稣的头上。 ⁴有几个人很生气，彼此说：“为甚么这样浪费香膏呢？ ⁵这香膏可以卖三百多个银币，用来赒济穷人。”他们就向她发怒。 ⁶但耶稣说：“由她吧！为甚么难为她呢？她在我身上作的是一件美事。 ⁷你们常常有穷人跟你们在一起，只要你们愿意，随时都可以向他们行善，然而你们却不常有我。 ⁸她已经尽她所能的作了。她预先用香膏膏了我的身体，是为了我的安葬。 ⁹我实在告诉你们，福音无论传到世界上甚么地方，都要传讲这女人所作的来记念她。”

犹大出卖耶稣^(BK)

¹⁰十二门徒中的一个，就是加略人犹大，去见祭司长，要把耶稣交给他们。

治好癱子

2 幾天後，耶穌回到迦百農。祂在家的消息一傳開， ²立刻有許多人蜂擁而來，連門外也擠滿了人。耶穌正給他們講道的時候， ³有四個人抬著一個癱瘓的人來見祂。 ⁴但因為人太多，他們無法抬到耶穌跟前，就拆掉屋頂，對準耶穌所坐的地方，將癱子連墊子一起縋下去。 ⁵耶穌看見他們的信心，就對癱子說：「孩子，你的罪被赦免了！」 ⁶有幾個律法教師坐在那裡，心裡議論說： ⁷「這是什麼話？簡直是褻瀆上帝！除了上帝之外，誰能赦罪呢？」

⁸耶穌立刻看透了他們的心思，就說：「你們為什麼這樣心裡議論呢？ ⁹對癱子說『你的罪得到赦免了』容易呢，還是說『起來，收拾你的墊子走吧』容易呢？ ¹⁰但我要讓你們知道人子在世上有赦罪的權柄。」於是祂對癱子說： ¹¹「我吩咐你起來收拾你的墊子回家去吧。」 ¹²那人就站起來，馬上收拾好墊子，當著眾人的面走了出去。眾人都十分驚奇，讚美上帝說：「我們從來沒見過這樣的事！」

呼召利未

¹³耶穌又出去到了湖邊。有一大群人圍攏過來，祂就教導他們。 ¹⁴耶穌往前走的時候，看見亞勒腓的兒子利未坐在收稅站裡工作，就對他說：「跟從我！」利未就起來跟從了耶穌。

¹⁵後來，利未請耶穌和祂的門徒到家裡坐席，同席的還有很多已經跟隨耶穌的稅吏和罪人。 ¹⁶有幾位法利賽人的律法教師看見耶穌跟稅吏和罪人同席，就問耶穌的門徒：「祂怎麼會跟這些稅吏和罪人一起吃飯呢？」

¹⁷耶穌聽見了，就說：「健康的人不需要醫生，有病的人才需要。我來不是要召義人，乃是要召罪人。」

論禁食

¹⁸約翰的門徒和法利賽人都在禁食的時候，有人來問耶穌：「約翰的門徒和法利賽人的門徒禁食，為什麼你的門徒不禁食呢？」

¹⁹耶穌對他們說：「新郎還在的時候，賓客怎能在婚宴中禁食呢？新郎還跟他們在一起的時候，他們不該禁食。 ²⁰但有一天新郎將被帶走，那時他們就要禁食了。

²¹「沒有人會用新布來補舊衣服，因為新布會把舊衣服扯破，破洞會更大； ²²也沒有人把新酒倒進舊皮囊裡，否則新酒會漲破舊皮囊，酒和皮囊都毀了。所以，新酒一定要裝在新皮囊裡。」

安息日的主

²³一個安息日，耶穌和門徒走過一片麥田，門徒一邊走一邊搓麥穗吃。 ²⁴法利賽人批評耶穌說：「看看你的門徒，他們為什麼做安息日不准做的事？」

²⁵耶穌回答說：「大衛和他的部下在饑餓、缺糧時所做的事，你們沒有讀過嗎？ ²⁶在亞比亞他做大祭司時，他進入上帝的殿吃了獻給上帝的供餅，還給他的部下吃。這餅只有祭司才可以吃。 ²⁷安息日是為人設立的，人不是為安息日設立的。 ²⁸所以，人子也是安息日的主。」

治好手枯的人

3 耶穌又進了會堂，那裡有個人一隻手是萎縮的。 ²當時有好些人密切地監視耶穌，看祂是否會在安息日醫治這個人，好找藉口控告祂。

³耶穌對那一隻手萎縮的人說：「起來，站在中間。」 ⁴然後問眾人：「在安息日應該行善還是作惡？救人還是害人？」他們都不吭聲。

⁵耶穌生氣地看著四周這些人，為他們的心剛硬而感到極其難過。祂對那人說：「把手伸出來！」那人一伸手，手就立刻復原了。 ⁶法利賽人離開後，立刻和希律黨的人策劃怎樣除掉耶穌。

群眾跟隨耶穌

⁷耶穌和門徒退到湖邊，有一大群人從加利利來跟隨祂。 ⁸還有很多人聽見耶穌所做的一切，就從猶太、耶路撒冷、以土買、約旦河東，甚至泰爾和西頓一帶來找祂。 ⁹耶穌見人多，就吩咐門徒為祂預備一條小船，以免人群擁擠祂。 ¹⁰因為祂醫好了很多人，凡有疾病的人都想擠過來摸祂。 ¹¹每當污鬼看見祂，就俯伏在祂面前，大喊：「你是上帝的兒子！」 ¹²耶穌卻嚴厲地吩咐牠們不要洩露祂的身分。

選立十二使徒

¹³耶穌上了山，把合自己心意的人召集到跟前， ¹⁴從中選出十二個人，設立他們為使徒，讓他們跟隨自己，並且差遣他們出去傳道， ¹⁵賜他們趕鬼的權柄。

¹⁶這十二位使徒是：西門——耶穌給他取名叫彼得、 ¹⁷西庇太的兒子雅各和雅各的兄弟約翰——耶穌給他們取名叫「半尼其」，就是「雷霆之子」的意思、 ¹⁸安得烈、腓力、巴多羅買、馬太、多馬、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、達太、激進黨人西門、 ¹⁹及後來出賣耶穌的加略人猶大。

耶穌和別西卜

²⁰耶穌剛進家門，人群又聚集起來，以致祂和門徒連吃飯的時間也沒有。 ²¹祂的親屬聽見這個消息，就出來要拉住祂，因為人們說祂瘋了。

²²從耶路撒冷下來的律法教師說：「祂被別西卜附體。」又說：「祂是靠鬼王趕鬼。」

²³耶穌叫他們來，用比喻對他們說：「撒旦怎能驅逐撒旦呢？ ²⁴一個國內部自相紛爭，必然崩潰。 ²⁵一個家內部自相紛爭，必然破裂。 ²⁶同樣，撒旦如果與自己為敵，自相紛爭，就站立不住，必然滅亡。 ²⁷沒有人能進入壯漢家裡搶奪他的財物，除非先把那壯漢捆綁起來，才有可能搶劫他的家。

²⁸「我實在告訴你們，世人一切的罪和褻瀆的話都可以得到赦免， ²⁹唯有褻瀆聖靈的人永遠得不到赦免，他們要永遠擔罪。」 ³⁰耶穌這樣說是因為他們誣衊祂被污鬼附身。

誰是耶穌的親人

³¹這時候，耶穌的母親和兄弟來了，他們站在外面，託人叫耶穌。 ³²有許多人圍坐在耶穌身邊，他們告訴祂說：「看啊！你的母親和兄弟在外面找你。」

³³耶穌說：「誰是我的母親？誰是我的弟兄？」 ³⁴然後祂望著周圍坐著的人說：「看啊！我的母親、我的弟兄在這裡。 ³⁵凡遵行上帝旨意的人就是我的弟兄、姊妹和母親。」

撒種的比喻

4 耶穌又到湖邊講道，周圍聚集了許多人，耶穌只好上到湖邊的船上坐下，眾人都站在岸上。 ²耶穌用比喻教導他們許多事，在教導中祂說： ³「聽著！有一個農夫出去撒種。 ⁴撒種的時候，有些種子落在路旁，被飛鳥吃掉了； ⁵有些落在石頭地上，因為泥土不深，種子很快就發芽了， ⁶然而因為沒有根，被太陽一曬就枯萎了； ⁷有些落在荊棘叢中，荊棘長起來便把嫩苗擠住了，以致不能結實； ⁸有些落在沃土裡，就發芽生長，結出果實，收成多達三十倍、六十倍、一百倍！」 ⁹然後祂說：「有耳可聽的，都應當聽。」

¹⁰當耶穌獨自一人的時候，十二使徒和追隨祂的人來請教比喻的意思。 ¹¹耶穌說：「上帝國的奧祕只讓你們知道，對於外人，我只用比喻， ¹²使他們『看了又看，卻不領悟；聽了又聽，卻不明白，免得他們回心轉意，得到赦免。』」

¹³耶穌又對他們說：「你們不明白這個比喻，又怎能明白其他比喻呢？ ¹⁴農夫撒的是上帝的道。 ¹⁵種子落在路旁，是指人聽了道，撒旦立刻過來奪去了撒在他們心裡的道。 ¹⁶種子落在石頭地上，是指人聽了道後，立刻歡喜地接受了， ¹⁷但他們心裡沒有根基，不過是暫時接受，一旦為道遭受患難和迫害，就立刻放棄了。 ¹⁸種子落在荊棘叢中，是指人雖然聽過道， ¹⁹但生活的憂慮、錢財的迷惑和其他慾望把道擠住了，以致不能結出果實。 ²⁰種子落在沃土裡，是指人聽了道，領受了，又結出果實，收成多達三十倍、六十倍、甚至一百倍。」

燈的比喻

²¹耶穌繼續說：「人會把燈拿來放在籃子底下或床底下嗎？當然不會，他一定會把它放在燈臺上。 ²²隱藏的事是不能掩蓋的，終會顯露出來。 ²³有耳可聽的，就應當聽。」 ²⁴耶穌又說：「要好好思想你們所聽到的，你們用什麼量器量給人，就用什麼量器量給你們，甚至要多給你們。 ²⁵因為凡有的，還要給他更多；凡沒有的，連他僅有的也要奪去！」

種子生長的比喻

²⁶祂又說：「上帝的國就像一個人在地上撒種。 ²⁷他天天日出而作，日落而息。種子就在他不知不覺中漸漸發芽長大。 ²⁸大地會使種子生長，先發苗後吐穗，最終結出飽滿的籽粒。 ²⁹莊稼成熟後，他就拿起鐮刀來收割，因為收成的時候到了。」

芥菜種的比喻

³⁰耶穌說：「我們拿什麼比作上帝的國呢？用什麼比喻來解釋呢？ ³¹上帝的國就像一粒芥菜種。它是種子中最小的， ³²但種在地裡，卻能長得比各樣蔬菜都大，有粗大的枝條，可以讓飛鳥在它的樹蔭中築巢。」

³³耶穌用了許多類似的比喻，按照眾人所能領悟的，把上帝的道講給他們聽。 ³⁴祂總是用比喻對他們講論，只有單獨和門徒在一起的時候，才把一切解釋清楚。

平息風浪

³⁵那天晚上，耶穌對門徒說：「我們渡到對面去吧。」 ³⁶他們就離開眾人，上了耶穌乘坐的船，一起渡到湖的對岸，還有其他船隻跟著去。 ³⁷忽然，湖面上狂風大作，波浪撞擊船身，船內幾乎灌滿了水。 ³⁸耶穌卻還在船尾枕著枕頭睡覺。門徒叫醒了祂，說：「老師，我們快淹死了，你怎麼不管呢？」

³⁹耶穌起來斥責狂風，對著湖面說：「靜下來！停下來！」於是就風平浪靜了。 ⁴⁰祂對門徒說：「你們為什麼這樣害怕呢？你們還是沒有信心嗎？」

⁴¹他們極其害怕，彼此議論說：「祂到底是誰？連風浪都聽祂的！」

治好被鬼附身的人

5 他們來到湖對岸的格拉森地區。 ²耶穌剛下船，就遇見一個被污鬼附身的人從墳場迎面而來。 ³那人以墳場為家，從來沒有人能把他捆住，就算用鐵鏈也鎖不住他。 ⁴儘管有人多次用鐵鏈和腳鐐鎖住他，但他掙斷了鐵鏈，砸碎了腳鐐。沒有人能制伏他。 ⁵他晝夜在墳場和山野間大喊大叫，又用石頭砍自己。

⁶他遠遠看見耶穌，就跑過去跪下來拜祂，喊著說： ⁷「至高上帝的兒子耶穌啊，我和你有什麼關係？看在上帝的份上，求你不要折磨我！」 ⁸原來，耶穌已經對他身上的鬼說：「污鬼，從這人身上出來！」

⁹耶穌問：「你叫什麼名字？」

他說：「我的名字叫『群』，因為我們是一大群。」

¹⁰接著污鬼再三哀求耶穌，不要把牠們逐出那個地區。 ¹¹當時有一大群豬在附近山坡上覓食。 ¹²污鬼就哀求耶穌說：「讓我們到豬群裡去，附在牠們身上吧！」

¹³耶穌允許了，污鬼就離開那人，進入豬群。那群豬就一路奔下陡坡，衝進湖裡淹死了，約有兩千頭。

¹⁴放豬的人都嚇跑了。他們把這消息傳遍了城裡鄉間，於是人人都跑來看個究竟。 ¹⁵他們到了耶穌那裡，看見那一度被群鬼附身的人神智清醒、衣著整齊地坐在那裡，都很害怕。 ¹⁶目睹這件事的人向他們講述整個經過。 ¹⁷他們請耶穌離開他們的地方。

¹⁸耶穌上了船準備離開的時候，那被鬼附過的人懇求耶穌讓他隨行。 ¹⁹耶穌沒有答應，只對他說：「回去見你的家人，將主為你所做的事和祂憐憫你的經過告訴他們吧！」

²⁰這人就回到低加坡里一帶宣揚耶穌為他所行的奇事，大家都很驚奇。

耶穌醫治有信心的人

²¹耶穌再坐船回到對岸，立刻有一大群人在岸邊圍著祂。 ²²人群中有一位會堂的主管名叫雅魯，他一見到耶穌便俯伏在祂腳前， ²³懇求說：「我小女兒快要死了，求你去把手按在她身上，醫治她，救她一命。」

²⁴耶穌和他同去，一大群人跟著祂，擁擠著祂。

²⁵有一個婦人患血漏病已經十二年， ²⁶經過許多醫生的診治，受盡痛苦，耗盡錢財，病情仍沒有好轉，反而更加嚴重。 ²⁷她聽見耶穌的事，就夾在人群中擠到耶穌背後摸祂的衣服， ²⁸心想：「只要摸到祂的衣服，我就痊癒了！」

²⁹她的血漏立刻停止了，她感到自己痊癒了。 ³⁰耶穌馬上知道有能力從自己身上發出，便在人群中轉過身來問：「誰摸了我的衣服？」

³¹門徒對祂說：「你看，這麼多人在你周圍擠來擠去，你怎麼問誰摸你呢？」

³²耶穌環視四周，要找出摸祂的人。 ³³那婦人害怕得發抖，她知道在自己身上發生了什麼事，於是上前俯伏在耶穌面前，將實情說了出來。

³⁴耶穌說：「女兒，你的信心救了你。安心地回去吧！你的病好了。」

³⁵耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從雅魯家中趕來，對雅魯說：「你的女兒已經死了，何必麻煩老師呢？」

³⁶耶穌聽了，便對雅魯說：「不要怕，只要信。」 ³⁷於是，祂帶著彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰去雅魯家，不准其他人跟著。 ³⁸他們到了那裡，只見在場的人嚎啕大哭，場面混亂。 ³⁹耶穌進去問道：「你們為什麼大哭大嚷呢？這孩子並沒有死，只是睡著了。」

⁴⁰這些人聽了，都譏笑祂。耶穌讓他們全部出去，然後帶著孩子的父母和三個門徒進了房間。 ⁴¹祂拉著孩子的手說：「大利大，古米！」意思是：「小女孩，我吩咐你起來！」

⁴²小女孩應聲而起，並且可以走動，那時她十二歲。在場的人都驚奇不已。 ⁴³耶穌鄭重叮囑他們不要把這事張揚出去，又吩咐他們給女孩東西吃。

拿撒勒人厭棄耶穌

6 耶穌帶著門徒離開那地方，回到自己的家鄉。 ²到了安息日，祂開始在會堂裡教導人，眾人聽了都很驚奇，說：「這個人從哪裡學來這些本領？祂怎麼會有這種智慧？祂怎麼能行這樣的神蹟？ ³這不是那個木匠嗎？祂不是瑪麗亞的兒子嗎？祂不是雅各、約西、猶大、西門的大哥嗎？祂的妹妹們不也住在我們這裡嗎？」他們就對祂很反感。

⁴耶穌對他們說：「先知到處受人尊敬，只有在本鄉、本族、本家例外。」 ⁵耶穌不能在那裡行任何神蹟，只把手按在幾個病人身上，醫治了他們。 ⁶他們的不信令耶穌詫異，於是祂就去周圍的村莊教導人。

差遣十二使徒

⁷耶穌召集了十二個使徒，差遣他們兩個兩個地出去，賜給他們制伏污鬼的權柄， ⁸又吩咐他們除了手杖之外，不用帶食物和背囊，腰包裡也不要帶錢， ⁹只穿一雙鞋子和一套衣服就夠了。 ¹⁰祂說：「你們無論到哪裡，就住在那些接待你們的人家裡，一直住到離開。 ¹¹如果某地方的人不接待你們，不聽你們傳的道，你們在離開之前要跺掉腳上的塵土，作為對他們的警告！」

¹²使徒便出去傳道，勸人悔改， ¹³趕出許多鬼，為許多病人抹油，治好他們。

施洗者約翰遇害

¹⁴耶穌聲名遠播，希律王也聽說了祂的事。有人說：「施洗者約翰從死裡復活了，所以能夠行這些神蹟。」

¹⁵也有人說：「祂是先知以利亞。」

還有人說：「祂是個先知，跟古代的一位先知相似。」

¹⁶希律聽到這些議論，就說：「祂一定是被我斬了頭的約翰從死裡復活了。」 ¹⁷原來希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底，並為她的緣故而派人逮捕了約翰，把他關押在監牢裡。 ¹⁸因為約翰屢次對希律說：「你娶弟弟的妻子不合法。」

¹⁹希羅底對約翰懷恨在心，想要殺掉他，只是不能得逞。 ²⁰因為希律知道約翰是個公義聖潔的人，所以敬畏他，並對他加以保護。儘管約翰所講的道理令他困惑不安，他仍然喜歡聽。

²¹機會終於來了。希律在自己的生日那天設宴招待文武百官和加利利的顯要。 ²²希羅底的女兒進來跳舞，甚得希律和客人的歡心。王對她說：「你想要什麼，只管說。」 ²³王還對她起誓說：「無論你要什麼，哪怕是我的半壁江山，我都會給你。」

²⁴她便出去問她母親：「我應該要什麼呢？」

她母親說：「要施洗者約翰的頭！」

²⁵她馬上回去對王說：「願王立刻把施洗者約翰的頭放在盤子裡送給我。」

²⁶王聽了這個請求，感到十分為難，但因為在賓客面前起了誓言，就不好拒絕。 ²⁷他立刻命令衛兵進監牢砍了約翰的頭， ²⁸放在盤子裡送給這女子，她又轉送給她母親。 ²⁹約翰的門徒聽到這個消息，就來把約翰的屍體領回去，安葬在墳墓裡。

耶穌使五千人吃飽

³⁰使徒們聚集在耶穌身邊，向祂報告事工和傳道的經過。 ³¹耶穌對他們說：「你們私下跟我到僻靜的地方去歇一會兒吧。」因為當時來來往往找他們的人實在太多，他們連吃飯的時間都沒有。

³²他們乘船悄悄地到了一處僻靜的地方。 ³³可是有許多人看見他們離開，認出了他們，便從各城鎮步行趕往那裡，比他們先到達。 ³⁴耶穌一下船，看見這一大群人好像沒有牧人的羊，心裡憐憫他們，於是教導了他們許多道理。

³⁵天色晚了，門徒過來對耶穌說：「時候已經不早了，這裡又是荒郊野外， ³⁶請遣散眾人，好讓他們到周圍的村莊去自己買些吃的。」

³⁷耶穌說：「你們給他們吃的吧。」

門徒說：「我們哪來這麼多錢買東西給他們吃啊？」

³⁸耶穌說：「看看你們有多少餅。」

他們察看後，說：「有五個餅和兩條魚。」

³⁹耶穌吩咐門徒叫大家分組坐在草地上。 ⁴⁰於是眾人坐下，有的五十人一組，有的一百人一組。 ⁴¹耶穌拿起那五個餅、兩條魚，舉目望著天祝謝後，掰開遞給門徒，讓他們分給眾人。祂又照樣把那兩條魚分給眾人。 ⁴²大家都吃了，並且吃飽了。 ⁴³門徒把剩下的碎餅、碎魚收拾起來，裝滿了十二個籃子。 ⁴⁴當時吃餅的男人有五千。

耶穌在湖面上行走

⁴⁵隨後，耶穌催門徒上船，叫他們先渡到湖對岸的伯賽大，祂則遣散眾人。 ⁴⁶祂辭別了眾人後，就上山去禱告。 ⁴⁷到了晚上，門徒的船在湖中心，耶穌獨自留在岸上。 ⁴⁸大約凌晨三點鐘，祂看見門徒在逆風中搖櫓，非常吃力，就從水面上朝門徒走去，想要從他們旁邊經過。 ⁴⁹門徒看見有人在湖面上走，以為是幽靈，嚇得驚叫起來。 ⁵⁰全船的人看見祂，都嚇壞了，耶穌立刻對他們說：「放心吧，是我，不要怕！」

⁵¹耶穌上了船，來到他們那裡，風便停了。門徒心裡十分驚奇， ⁵²因為他們仍然不明白耶穌分餅那件事的意義，心裡還是愚頑。 ⁵³他們渡到湖對岸，來到革尼撒勒，在那裡靠岸， ⁵⁴剛一下船，眾人立刻認出了耶穌。 ⁵⁵他們跑遍那一帶地方，用墊子把生病的人抬來，聽到耶穌在哪裡，就把病人抬到哪裡。 ⁵⁶耶穌不論到哪一個城市、鄉鎮和村莊，人們總是把病人抬到街市上，求耶穌讓他們摸一摸祂衣裳的穗邊，所有摸過的病人都好了。

傳統與誡命

7 有法利賽人和一些律法教師從耶路撒冷來見耶穌。 ²他們看到祂的門徒有些吃飯前沒有照禮儀洗手。 ³因為法利賽人和所有的猶太人都拘守古人的傳統，總是先照禮儀洗手之後才吃飯； ⁴從市場回來也要先潔淨自己，然後才吃飯。他們還拘守許多其他規矩，如洗杯、罐、銅器等。

⁵他們質問耶穌：「為什麼你的門徒違背祖先的傳統，竟用不潔淨的手吃飯呢？」

⁶耶穌回答說：「以賽亞先知針對你們這些偽君子所說的預言一點不錯，正如聖經上說，

『這些人嘴上尊崇我，
心卻遠離我。
⁷他們的教導無非是人的規條，
他們敬拜我也是枉然。』

⁸你們只知拘守人的傳統，卻無視上帝的誡命。」 ⁹耶穌又對他們說：「你們為了拘守自己的傳統，竟巧妙地廢除了上帝的誡命。 ¹⁰摩西說，『要孝敬父母』，又說，『咒罵父母的，必被處死。』 ¹¹你們卻認為人若對父母說，『我把供養你們的錢財已經全部奉獻給上帝了』， ¹²他就可以不奉養父母。 ¹³你們就是這樣為了拘守傳統而廢除上帝的道，類似的情形還有很多。」

內心的污穢

¹⁴耶穌又召集眾人，教導他們說：「我的話，你們要聽明白， ¹⁵從外面進去的不會使人污穢，只有從人裡面發出來的才會使人污穢。 ¹⁶有耳可聽的，都應當聽！」

¹⁷耶穌離開眾人，進了屋子，門徒問祂這比喻的意思。 ¹⁸耶穌說：「你們也不明白嗎？你們不知道嗎？從外面進去的，不會使人污穢， ¹⁹因為不能進入他的心，只能進他的腸胃，最後會排出來，也就是說所有的食物都是潔淨的。 ²⁰從人裡面發出來的才使人污穢， ²¹因為從裡面，就是從人的心裡能夠生出惡念、苟合、偷盜、謀殺、 ²²通姦、貪婪、邪惡、詭詐、放蕩、嫉妒、毀謗、驕傲、狂妄。 ²³這一切惡事都是從裡面生出來的，能使人污穢。」

外族婦人的信心

²⁴耶穌從那裡啟程去泰爾和西頓地區。祂進了一戶人家，原本不想讓人知道，卻無法避開人們的注意。 ^25-26當時有一個婦人的小女兒被污鬼附身，她聽見耶穌的事，就來俯伏在祂腳前，懇求祂趕出她女兒身上的鬼。這婦人是希臘人，來自敘利亞的腓尼基。

²⁷耶穌對她說：「要先讓兒女們吃飽，因為把兒女的食物丟給狗吃不合適。」

²⁸婦人說：「主啊，你說的對，但桌子下的狗也吃孩子們掉下來的碎渣呀！」

²⁹耶穌說：「因為你這句話，你回去吧，鬼已經離開你的女兒了。」

³⁰她回到家裡，見女兒躺在床上，鬼已經離開了。

醫治聾啞的人

³¹耶穌離開泰爾地區，經過西頓，來到低加坡里地區的加利利湖。 ³²有人帶著一個又聾又啞的人來見耶穌，懇求祂把手按在這個人身上。 ³³耶穌就帶他離開眾人走到一邊，用指頭伸進他的耳朵，又吐唾沫抹他的舌頭， ³⁴望天長歎，對他說：「以法大！」意思是「開了吧！」 ³⁵他的耳朵立刻開了，舌頭靈活了，說話也清楚了。 ³⁶耶穌吩咐他們不要將這事告訴人。可是耶穌越是這樣吩咐，他們越是極力宣揚， ³⁷聽見的人都十分驚奇，說：「祂做的事好極了，甚至叫聾子聽見，啞巴說話！」

耶穌使四千人吃飽

8 那時，又有一大群人聚在一起，他們沒有東西吃。耶穌就叫來門徒，說： ²「我憐憫這些人，他們跟我在一起已經三天，沒有任何吃的了。 ³如果讓他們餓著肚子回家，他們在路上會體力不支，因為有些人是遠道而來的。」

⁴門徒說：「在這荒野，如何找到足夠的食物給這些人吃呢？」

⁵耶穌問：「你們有多少餅？」

門徒答道：「七個。」

⁶耶穌便吩咐大家坐在地上，然後拿著那七個餅祝謝了，掰開，遞給門徒，讓門徒分給大家，門徒就把餅分給大家。 ⁷他們還有幾條小魚。耶穌祝謝了，叫門徒分給眾人。 ⁸大家都吃了，並且吃飽了，剩下的零碎裝滿了七個筐子。 ⁹吃的人約有四千。耶穌讓眾人回家後， ¹⁰隨即和門徒上船，來到大瑪努他地區。

¹¹法利賽人出來盤問耶穌，要求祂從天上顯一個神蹟給他們看看，藉此試探祂。 ¹²耶穌深深歎息道：「這世代的人為什麼總是要看神蹟呢？我實在告訴你們，沒有神蹟給這世代的人看。」 ¹³然後，耶穌離開他們，乘船回對岸去了。

防備法利賽人和希律的酵

¹⁴門徒忘了帶餅，船上只有一個餅。 ¹⁵耶穌警告他們：「你們要謹慎，要提防法利賽人和希律的酵！」

¹⁶他們彼此議論說：「老師這樣說，是不是因為我們沒有帶餅呢？」

¹⁷耶穌知道他們的心思，就說：「你們為什麼議論沒有帶餅的事呢？難道你們還不明白、不領悟嗎？你們的心還是愚頑嗎？ ¹⁸你們有眼不會看，有耳不會聽嗎？你們不記得嗎？ ¹⁹我掰開五個餅分給五千人吃的時候，你們撿了多少籃的零碎呢？」

門徒答道：「十二籃。」

²⁰耶穌又說：「我用七個餅餵飽四千人的時候，你們撿了多少筐零碎呢？」

門徒答道：「七筐。」

²¹耶穌接著說：「你們還不明白嗎？」

治好伯賽大的瞎子

²²他們到了伯賽大，有人帶來一個瞎子，求耶穌摸他。 ²³耶穌拉著瞎子的手帶他走到村外，吐唾沫在他的眼睛上，並把手按在他身上，問他：「你看見什麼了？」

²⁴他抬頭看了看，說：「我看見人們好像一棵棵的樹，走來走去。」

²⁵耶穌把手按在他的眼睛上，他定睛一看，便恢復了視力，什麼都看得清清楚楚。 ²⁶耶穌叫他回家，並對他說：「不要再進這個村子了。」

彼得宣告耶穌是基督

²⁷耶穌和門徒前往凱撒利亞·腓立比境內的村莊。在路上，祂問門徒：「別人說我是誰？」

²⁸他們說：「有人說你是施洗者約翰，有人說你是以利亞，有人說你是眾先知中的一位。」

²⁹耶穌又問他們：「那麼，你們說我是誰？」

彼得回答說：「你是基督！」

³⁰耶穌吩咐他們不要洩露祂的身分。

耶穌預言自己的受難和復活

³¹從此，耶穌便告訴他們，人子必須受許多苦，被長老、祭司長和律法教師棄絕，殺害，但必在三天之後復活。 ³²耶穌清楚地把這些事告訴了他們，彼得就把祂拉到一邊，勸阻祂。 ³³耶穌轉身看了看門徒，斥責彼得說：「撒旦，退到我後面去！因為你不考慮上帝的意思，只考慮人的意思。」

³⁴祂叫眾人和門徒一起過來，對他們說：「如果有人要跟從我，就應當捨己，背起他的十字架跟從我。 ³⁵因為想救自己生命的，必失去生命；但為了我和福音而失去生命的，必得到生命。 ³⁶人就是賺得全世界，卻喪失自己的生命，又有什麼益處呢？ ³⁷他還能用什麼換回生命呢？

³⁸「在這淫亂、罪惡的世代，如果有人以我和我的道為恥，人子在父的榮耀中與聖天使再來的時候，也要以他為恥。」

9 耶穌繼續說：「我實在告訴你們，有些站在這裡的人會在有生之年看見上帝的國帶著能力降臨。」

登山變象

²六天後，耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和約翰暗暗地登上一座高山。耶穌在他們面前改變了形像， ³衣服變得潔白放光，世上找不到漂得那麼白的布。 ⁴這時，以利亞和摩西在他們眼前出現，與耶穌談話。 ⁵彼得對耶穌說：「老師，我們在這裡真好！我們搭三座帳篷吧，一座給你，一座給摩西，一座給以利亞。」

⁶其實彼得當時不知說什麼才好，因為他們都很害怕。 ⁷就在這時候，有一朵雲彩飄來遮住他們，雲彩中有聲音說：「這是我的愛子，你們要聽從祂。」 ⁸門徒立刻四處觀看，發現沒有其他人，只有耶穌和他們在那裡。

⁹下山的時候，耶穌叮囑他們在人子還沒有從死裡復活之前，不要把剛才看見的告訴別人。

¹⁰門徒把這話謹記在心，彼此議論「從死裡復活」這句話的意思。 ¹¹他們問耶穌：「律法教師為什麼說以利亞必須先來？」

¹²耶穌回答說：「以利亞固然要先來復興一切，但為什麼聖經上說人子一定會飽受痛苦、遭人蔑視呢？ ¹³其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻任意對待他，正如聖經的記載。」

治好污鬼附身的孩子

¹⁴他們與其他門徒會合時，看見一大群人圍住門徒，幾個律法教師正在跟他們辯論。 ¹⁵大家一看到耶穌，都十分驚奇，立刻跑上去迎接祂。 ¹⁶耶穌問門徒：「你們跟他們辯論什麼？」

¹⁷人群中有一個人說：「老師，我帶了我的兒子來找你，因為他被啞巴鬼附身。 ¹⁸每次鬼控制他，把他摔在地上，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齒，全身僵硬。我請你的門徒趕走那鬼，他們卻辦不到。」

¹⁹耶穌說：「唉，這不信的世代啊！我要跟你們在一起待多久，容忍你們多久呢？把他帶到我這裡吧。」

²⁰他們把那孩子帶到耶穌面前。那鬼一見耶穌，就使孩子抽搐，倒在地上打滾，口吐白沫。 ²¹耶穌問孩子的父親：「他這樣子多久了？」孩子的父親回答道：「他從小就這樣， ²²鬼常常將他扔進火裡或水裡，要害他的命。如果你能，求你憐憫我們，幫助我們吧！」

²³耶穌說：「如果你能？對於相信的人，凡事都有可能！」

²⁴孩子的父親立刻喊著說：「我信！但我信心不足，求你幫助我！」

²⁵耶穌看見人群都跑了過來，就斥責那污鬼：「你這個聾啞鬼，我命令你從他身上出來，不許再進去！」

²⁶那鬼發出喊叫，使孩子劇烈地抽搐了一陣，就出來了。孩子躺在地上一動也不動，大家都以為他死了。 ²⁷但耶穌拉著他的手扶他起來，他就站了起來。

²⁸耶穌進屋後，門徒悄悄問祂：「我們為什麼趕不走那鬼呢？」

²⁹耶穌說：「要趕走這類鬼只有靠禱告^[a]。」

再次預言受難

³⁰他們離開那裡，途經加利利。耶穌不想任何人知道祂的行蹤， ³¹因為祂在教導門徒。祂說：「人子將被交在人的手中，被他們殺害，但三天之後，祂必復活。」 ³²門徒卻不明白這句話的意思，又不敢問祂。

誰最偉大

³³他們回到迦百農的住所，耶穌問門徒：「你們一路上爭論些什麼？」

³⁴他們都沉默不語，因為剛才他們在爭論誰最偉大。 ³⁵耶穌坐下，叫十二個門徒過來，對他們說：「誰想為首，就該在眾人中做最小的，作眾人的僕人。」 ³⁶祂領了一個小孩子來，叫他站在門徒中間，又抱起他，對他們說： ³⁷「任何人為我的緣故接待這樣一個小孩子，就是接待我；凡接待我的，不單是接待我，也是接待差我來的那位。」

警戒犯罪

³⁸約翰對耶穌說：「老師，我們看見有人奉你的名趕鬼，就阻止他，因為他不是跟從我們的。」

³⁹耶穌說：「不要阻止他，因為沒有人奉我的名行過神蹟後，會很快毀謗我。 ⁴⁰不反對我們的，就是支持我們的。 ⁴¹我實在告訴你們，若有人因為你們屬於基督而給你們一杯水喝，他也必得到賞賜。

⁴²「但若有人使這樣一個小信徒失足犯罪，他的下場比把大磨石掛在他脖子上扔到海裡還要慘。 ⁴³如果你一隻手使你犯罪，就砍掉它！ ⁴⁴拖著殘廢的身體進入永生，勝過雙手健全卻落入地獄不滅的火中。 ⁴⁵倘若你一隻腳使你犯罪，就砍掉它！瘸著腿進入永生， ⁴⁶勝過雙腳健全卻被丟進地獄！ ⁴⁷如果你的一隻眼睛使你犯罪，就剜掉它！獨眼進上帝的國，勝過雙目健全卻被丟進地獄。 ⁴⁸在那裡，

『蟲是不死的，
火是不滅的。』

⁴⁹「每個人都要被火煉，像被鹽醃一樣。 ⁵⁰鹽是好東西，但如果失去鹹味，怎能使它再鹹呢？你們裡面要有鹽，要彼此和睦。」

論婚姻

10 耶穌離開那裡，來到猶太地區和約旦河河東岸，人群又聚集到祂那裡。耶穌像往常一樣教導他們。 ²一些法利賽人想試探耶穌，就來問祂：「男人可以休妻嗎？」 ³耶穌反問道：「摩西怎麼吩咐你們的？」

⁴他們說：「摩西准許人寫休書休妻。」

⁵耶穌說：「摩西因為你們心硬，才給你們寫了這條誡命。 ⁶太初創造時，『上帝造了男人和女人。』 ⁷『因此，人要離開父母，與妻子結合， ⁸二人成為一體。』這樣，夫妻不再是兩個人，而是一體了。 ⁹因此，上帝配合的，人不可分開。」

¹⁰回到屋裡後，門徒追問耶穌這件事。 ¹¹耶穌說：「任何人休妻另娶，就是對妻子不忠，是犯通姦罪。 ¹²同樣，妻子若離棄丈夫另嫁，也是犯通姦罪。」

祝福孩童

¹³有人帶著小孩子來要讓耶穌摸一摸，門徒卻責備他們。 ¹⁴耶穌看見後很生氣，對門徒說：「讓小孩子到我這裡來，不要阻止他們，因為上帝的國屬於這樣的人。 ¹⁵我實在告訴你們，人若不像小孩子一樣接受上帝的國，絕不能進去。」 ¹⁶於是，耶穌抱起小孩子，把手按在他們身上，為他們祝福。

永生的代價

¹⁷耶穌正要上路，有一個人跑來跪在祂跟前，問祂：「良善的老師，我該做什麼才能承受永生？」

¹⁸耶穌說：「你為什麼稱呼我『良善的老師』呢？只有上帝是良善的。 ¹⁹你知道『不可殺人，不可通姦，不可偷盜，不可作偽證，不可欺詐，要孝敬父母』這些誡命。」

²⁰那人說：「老師，我從小就遵行這些誡命。」

²¹耶穌望著他，心中愛他，便說：「你還有一件事沒有做，就是變賣你所有的產業，送給窮人，你必有財寶存在天上，然後你還要來跟從我。」

²²那人聽了，臉色驟變，便沮喪地走了，因為他有許多產業。 ²³耶穌看看周圍的人，對門徒說：「有錢人進上帝的國真難啊！」

²⁴門徒聽了感到驚奇，耶穌便再次對他們說：「孩子們，^[b]進上帝的國多麼難啊！ ²⁵駱駝穿過針眼比有錢人進上帝的國還容易呢！」

²⁶門徒更加驚奇，便議論說：「這樣，誰能得救呢？」

²⁷耶穌看著他們說：「對人而言，這不可能，但對上帝而言，凡事都可能。」

²⁸彼得說：「你看，我們已經撇下一切來跟從你了。」

²⁹耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，任何人為了我和福音而撇下房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地， ³⁰今世必在房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地方面獲得百倍的回報，來世必得永生。當然他也會受到迫害。 ³¹然而，許多為首的將要殿後，殿後的將要為首。」

耶穌第三次預言自己的受難

³²在前往耶路撒冷的路上，耶穌走在眾人前面，門徒感到驚奇，其他跟隨的人也很害怕。

耶穌把十二個門徒叫到一旁，再把自己將要遭遇的事告訴他們，說： ³³「聽著，我們現在前往耶路撒冷。人子將被交在祭司長和律法教師的手中，他們要判祂死刑，把祂交給外族人。 ³⁴他們會嘲弄祂，向祂吐唾沫，鞭打祂，殺害祂。但是，三天之後祂必復活！」

雅各與約翰的請求

³⁵西庇太的兩個兒子雅各和約翰上前對耶穌說：「老師，請你答應我們一個要求。」

³⁶耶穌問：「什麼要求？」

³⁷他們說：「在你的榮耀中，求你讓我們一個坐在你右邊，一個坐在你左邊。」

³⁸耶穌說：「你們不知道自己在求什麼。我要喝的那杯，你們能喝嗎？我要受的洗，你們能受嗎？」

³⁹他們說：「我們能。」

耶穌說：「我要喝的那杯，你們也要喝；我所受的洗，你們也要受。 ⁴⁰不過誰坐在我的左右不是我來定，而是為誰預備的，就讓誰坐。」

⁴¹其他十個門徒聽見這事後，很生雅各和約翰的氣。 ⁴²於是，耶穌把他們叫來，對他們說：「你們知道，外族人有君王統治他們，有大臣管理他們， ⁴³但你們不可這樣。你們中間誰要當首領，誰就要做大家的僕人； ⁴⁴誰要居首位，誰就要做大家的奴僕。 ⁴⁵因為就連人子也不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」

治好瞎子巴底買

⁴⁶耶穌和門徒來到耶利哥。當耶穌和門徒及眾人出城的時候，碰到一個瞎眼的乞丐坐在路旁乞討，他的名字叫巴底買，是底買的兒子。 ⁴⁷巴底買一聽到經過的是拿撒勒人耶穌，就喊道：「大衛的後裔耶穌啊，可憐我吧！」

⁴⁸許多人都責備他，叫他不要吵，但他卻更加大聲喊道：「大衛的後裔啊，可憐我吧！」

⁴⁹耶穌停下腳步，叫人帶他過來。

他們就對瞎子巴底買說：「好了，起來吧，祂叫你呢。」

⁵⁰巴底買丟下外衣，跳了起來，走到耶穌面前。

⁵¹耶穌問他：「你要我為你做什麼？」

瞎子說：「老師，我想能夠看見。」

⁵²耶穌說：「回去吧！你的信心救^[c]了你。」那人立刻得見光明，在路上跟從了耶穌。

騎驢進耶路撒冷

11 耶穌和門徒將近耶路撒冷，快到橄欖山附近的伯法其和伯大尼兩個村莊時，祂派了兩個門徒， ²對他們說：「你們去前面的村莊，一進村就會看見一頭從來沒有人騎過的驢駒拴在那裡，你們把牠解開牽來。 ³若有人問你們為什麼這樣做，就說，『主要用牠，很快會把牠送回來。』」 ⁴他們進了村子，果然看見有一頭驢駒拴在街道旁一戶人家的門外，就上前解開牠。 ⁵旁邊站著的幾個人就問他們：「你們為什麼要解開這頭驢駒？」

⁶門徒依照耶穌的吩咐回答，那些人就讓他們牽走了。 ⁷他們把驢駒牽到耶穌面前，將自己的外衣搭在驢背上，耶穌就騎了上去。 ⁸很多人把衣服鋪在路上，有人將田間的樹枝砍下來鋪在路上。 ⁹大家前呼後擁，高聲歡呼：

「和散那^[d]！
奉主名來的當受稱頌！
¹⁰那將要來臨的我祖大衛的國度當受稱頌！
和散那歸於至高之處的上帝！」

¹¹耶穌進了耶路撒冷，來到聖殿，巡視各處。那時天色已晚，耶穌便和十二門徒出城前往伯大尼。

咒詛無花果樹

¹²第二天，他們離開伯大尼後，耶穌餓了。 ¹³祂遠遠看見有一棵枝葉茂盛的無花果樹，就走過去找果子吃。到了樹下，卻什麼也找不到，只有滿樹的葉子，因為當時不是收無花果的季節。 ¹⁴祂對那棵樹說：「願無人再吃你的果子！」祂的門徒都聽見了這句話。

潔淨聖殿

¹⁵他們來到耶路撒冷後，耶穌進入聖殿，趕走了裡面做買賣的人，推翻了兌換錢幣之人的桌子和賣鴿子之人的凳子， ¹⁶不准人抬著貨物穿過聖殿。 ¹⁷祂教導他們說：「聖經上不是記載『我的殿必稱為萬民禱告的殿』嗎？你們竟把它變成了賊窩。」

¹⁸祭司長和律法教師聽到這番話後，就策劃如何殺害耶穌，只是有些怕祂，因為百姓都對祂的教導感到驚奇。 ¹⁹到了傍晚，耶穌和門徒去了城外。

無花果樹的教訓

²⁰早上，他們又經過那棵無花果樹，看見它連根都枯了。 ²¹彼得想起昨天發生的事，就對耶穌說：「老師，你看！昨天你咒詛的無花果樹已經枯了。」

²²耶穌說：「要對上帝有信心。 ²³我實在告訴你們，不論何人，只要有信心，毫不疑惑，就是對這座山說，『從這裡挪開，投進大海裡！』也必定為他成就。 ²⁴所以我告訴你們，你們禱告時無論求什麼，只要相信已經得到了，就必得到。 ²⁵你們站著禱告的時候，若想起有人得罪了你們，就要饒恕他。這樣，你們天上的父也會饒恕你們的過犯。 ²⁶你們如果不饒恕別人，你們天上的父也不會饒恕你們的過犯。^[e]」

質問耶穌的權柄

²⁷他們再次回到耶路撒冷。耶穌在聖殿裡行走的時候，祭司長、律法教師和長老上前質問祂： ²⁸「你憑什麼權柄做這些事？誰授權給你了？」

²⁹耶穌說：「我也要問你們一個問題，你們回答了，我就告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。 ³⁰約翰的洗禮是從天上來的還是從人來的？請回答我！」

³¹他們彼此議論說：「如果我們說『是從天上來的』，祂一定會問，『那你們為什麼不信他？』 ³²如果我們說『是從人來的』，又怕觸怒百姓，因為他們都相信約翰真的是先知。」 ³³於是，他們回答說：「我們不知道。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。」

兇狠的佃戶

12 耶穌用比喻對他們說：「有人開闢了一個葡萄園，在四周築起籬笆，又在園中挖了一個榨酒池，建了一座瞭望臺，然後把葡萄園租給佃戶，就出遠門了。

²「到葡萄成熟時，園主派一個奴僕去收取他該得的一份。 ³那些佃戶卻捉住那個奴僕，打了他一頓，使他空手而歸。

⁴「園主又差另一個奴僕去。這一次，佃戶不但侮辱他，還把他打得頭破血流。 ⁵園主再派一個奴僕前往，他們卻把他殺掉了。園主後來派去的人不是挨打，就是被殺。 ⁶最後只剩下園主的愛子，園主就派他去，以為那些佃戶會尊重他的兒子。 ⁷這班佃戶卻彼此商量說，『這個就是園主的繼承人。來吧！我們殺掉他，產業就歸我們了。』

⁸「於是他們抓住他，殺了他，把他拋到葡萄園外。 ⁹那麼，園主會採取什麼行動呢？他必定會來殺掉這些佃戶，把葡萄園轉給別人。 ¹⁰聖經上說，

『工匠丟棄的石頭已成了房角石。
¹¹這是主的作為，
在我們看來奇妙莫測。』

你們沒有讀過這經文嗎？」

¹²他們聽出這比喻是針對他們說的，就想逮捕耶穌，但又害怕百姓，只好先離開了。

納稅給凱撒的問題

¹³後來，他們派了幾個法利賽人和希律黨人到耶穌那裡，企圖利用祂所說的話設計陷害祂。

¹⁴他們上前對耶穌說：「老師，我們知道你誠實無偽，不看人的情面，因為你不以貌取人，而是按真理傳上帝的道。那麼，向凱撒納稅對不對呢？ ¹⁵我們該不該納呢？」耶穌看破他們的陰謀，就說：「你們為什麼試探我呢？拿一個銀幣來給我看。」

¹⁶他們就拿來一個銀幣，耶穌問他們：「上面刻的是誰的像和名號？」

他們說：「凱撒的。」

¹⁷耶穌說：「屬於凱撒的東西應該給凱撒，屬於上帝的東西應該給上帝。」

他們聽了這話，都很驚奇。

論復活

¹⁸撒都該人向來不相信有復活的事，他們來問耶穌： ¹⁹「老師，摩西為我們寫下律例，如果一個人死了，遺下妻子，又沒有兒女，他的兄弟就當娶嫂嫂，替哥哥傳宗接代。 ²⁰有弟兄七人，老大結了婚，沒有孩子就死了。 ²¹二弟把大嫂娶過來，也沒有生孩子就死了，三弟也是一樣， ²²七個人都沒有留下孩子。最後，那女人也死了。 ²³那麼，到復活的時候，她將是誰的妻子呢？因為七個人都娶過她。」

²⁴耶穌說：「你們弄錯了，因為你們不明白聖經，也不知道上帝的能力。 ²⁵死人復活之後，將不娶也不嫁，就像天上的天使一樣。 ²⁶關於死人復活的事，你們沒有讀過摩西書有關火中荊棘的記載嗎？上帝對摩西說，『我是亞伯拉罕的上帝，以撒的上帝，雅各的上帝。』 ²⁷上帝不是死人的上帝，而是活人的上帝。你們大錯了！」

最大的誡命

²⁸有一位律法教師聽到他們的辯論，覺得耶穌的回答很精彩，就走過去問道：「誡命中哪一條最重要呢？」

²⁹耶穌回答道：「最重要的誡命是，『聽啊，以色列！主——我們的上帝是獨一的主。 ³⁰你要全心、全情、全意、全力愛主——你的上帝』； ³¹其次就是『要愛鄰如己』。再也沒有任何誡命比這兩條更重要了。」

³²那位律法教師說：「老師，你說得對，上帝只有一位，除祂以外，別無他神。 ³³我們要全心、全意、全力愛祂，又要愛鄰如己。這樣做比獻什麼祭都好。」

³⁴耶穌見他答得很有智慧，就告訴他：「你離上帝的國不遠了。」此後，沒人再敢問耶穌問題了。

基督的身分

³⁵耶穌在聖殿裡教導的時候，問道：「律法教師為什麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？ ³⁶大衛自己曾經受聖靈的感動，說，

『主對我主說，
你坐在我的右邊，
等我使你的仇敵伏在你腳下。』

³⁷既然大衛自己稱基督為主，基督又怎能是大衛的後裔呢？」百姓聽得津津有味。 ³⁸耶穌又教導他們，說：「你們要提防律法教師，他們愛穿著長袍招搖過市，喜歡人們在大街上問候他們， ³⁹又喜歡會堂裡的上座和宴席中的首位。 ⁴⁰他們侵吞寡婦的財產，還假意做冗長的禱告。這種人必受到更嚴厲的懲罰。」

窮寡婦的奉獻

⁴¹然後，耶穌走到聖殿的奉獻箱對面坐下，看大家怎樣奉獻。很多財主奉獻了大量的錢。 ⁴²後來一個窮寡婦來了，投進了相當於一文錢的兩個小銅錢。 ⁴³耶穌叫門徒來，說：「我實在告訴你們，這位窮寡婦比其他人奉獻的都多， ⁴⁴因為他們不過奉獻了自己剩餘的，但這窮寡婦卻奉獻了她賴以為生的。」

預言聖殿被毀

13 耶穌走出聖殿的時候，有一個門徒對祂說：「老師，你看！這是多麼大的石頭，多麼宏偉的建築啊！」

²耶穌說：「你看見這宏偉的建築了嗎？將來它要被完全拆毀，找不到兩塊疊在一起的石頭。」

³耶穌面向聖殿坐在橄欖山上，彼得、雅各、約翰和安得烈私下來問祂： ⁴「請告訴我們，這些事什麼時候會發生？有什麼預兆？」

⁵耶穌對他們說：「你們要小心，免得被人迷惑。 ⁶將有很多人冒我的名來，說，『我是基督』，欺騙許多人。

⁷「你們聽見戰爭爆發、戰訊頻傳時，不要驚慌，因為這些事必然發生，只是末日還沒有到。

⁸「民族將與民族互鬥，國家將與國家相爭，各處將有地震和饑荒。這些只是災難^[f]的開始。

⁹「你們要小心，因為你們將被送上法庭，將在會堂裡受鞭打，又將為了我的緣故在官長和君王面前做見證。 ¹⁰不過，福音一定要先傳遍天下。 ¹¹你們被拘捕，受審訊的時候，不用預先考慮怎樣辯解，到時候賜給你們什麼話，你們就說什麼話，因為那時候說話的不是你們自己，而是聖靈。

¹²「那時，人必把自己的弟兄置於死地，父親必把兒子置於死地，兒女必反叛父母，置他們於死地。 ¹³你們將為我的名而被眾人憎恨，但堅忍到底的必定得救。

大災難

¹⁴「當你們看見『那帶來毀滅的可憎之物』站在不當站的地方時（讀者須會意），住在猶太地區的人要逃到山上去； ¹⁵在屋頂上的人不要下來，不要進房屋收拾行李； ¹⁶在田間的人不要回家取外衣。 ¹⁷那時，孕婦和哺育嬰兒的母親們可就遭殃了！ ¹⁸你們要祈求上帝使這些事不要在冬天發生， ¹⁹因為那是上帝創造天地以來空前絕後的大災難。 ²⁰如果主不縮短災期，恐怕沒有人能活命，但為了祂所揀選的子民，祂已經縮短災期。 ²¹那時，如果有人對你們說，『看啊！基督在這裡』，或說，『基督在那裡』，你們不要相信。 ²²因為假基督和假先知將出現，行各種神蹟奇事，如果可能，甚至會迷惑上帝揀選的子民。 ²³你們要小心，我已經把一切預先告訴你們了。

人子降臨

²⁴「大災難過後，
太陽昏暗，
月亮無光，
²⁵星宿隕落，
天體震動。

²⁶那時，世人必看到人子駕著雲、帶著極大的能力和榮耀降臨。 ²⁷祂必差遣天使從四面八方、天涯海角招聚祂揀選的人。

²⁸「你們可以從無花果樹學個道理。當無花果樹發芽長葉的時候，你們就知道夏天快來了。 ²⁹同樣，當你們看見這些事情發生時，就知道人子快來了，就在門口。 ³⁰我實在告訴你們，這個世代還沒有過去，這一切都要發生。 ³¹天地都要過去，我的話卻永遠長存。

³²「但沒有人知道那日子和時辰何時來到，連天上的天使和人子都不知道，只有天父知道。 ³³你們要小心，警醒禱告，因為你們不知道那日子何時來到。

³⁴「這就好像一個人在出遠門之前，把家中的事交給僕人，讓他們各做各的工作，又吩咐守門的人要警醒。 ³⁵所以你們要警醒，因為你們不知道主人什麼時候回來，可能是黃昏，可能是夜半，也可能是黎明或早上。 ³⁶別讓他突然回來時看到你們在睡覺。 ³⁷我勸你們也勸所有的人，要警醒！」

謀害耶穌

14 再過兩天就是逾越節和除酵節，祭司長和律法教師正暗暗地找機會拘捕、殺害耶穌。

²他們說：「我們不能在節期那天下手，以免在百姓中引起騷亂。」

耶穌受膏

³耶穌在伯大尼村患過痲瘋病的西門家裡吃飯，有個女人帶了一瓶極貴重的純哪噠香膏進來，把玉瓶打破，將香膏倒在耶穌頭上。 ⁴有些人生氣地彼此議論說：「為什麼這樣浪費？ ⁵這瓶香膏可以賣三百多個銀幣^[g]來賙濟窮人。」他們就責備那女人。

⁶耶穌說：「隨她吧！何必為難她呢？她在我身上做的是一件美事。 ⁷因為你們身邊總會有窮人，你們隨時都可以幫助他們，可是你們身邊不會總有我。

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man^(A)

2 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. ²They gathered in such large numbers^(B) that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. ³Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man,^(C) carried by four of them. ⁴Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. ⁵When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”^(D)

⁶Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, ⁷“Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”^(E)

⁸Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? ⁹Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? ¹⁰But I want you to know that the Son of Man^(F) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, ¹¹“I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” ¹²He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God,^(G) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”^(H)

Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners^(I)

¹³Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him,^(J) and he began to teach them. ¹⁴As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”^(K) Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.

¹⁵While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. ¹⁶When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees^(L) saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”^(M)

¹⁷On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”^(N)

Jesus Questioned About Fasting^(O)

¹⁸Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting.^(P) Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”

¹⁹Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. ²⁰But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them,^(Q) and on that day they will fast.

²¹“No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. ²²And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath^(R)^(S)

²³One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.^(T) ²⁴The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”^(U)

²⁵He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? ²⁶In the days of Abiathar the high priest,^(V) he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat.^(W) And he also gave some to his companions.”^(X)

²⁷Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man,^(Y) not man for the Sabbath.^(Z) ²⁸So the Son of Man^(AA) is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

3 Another time Jesus went into the synagogue,^(AB) and a man with a shriveled hand was there. ²Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely^(AC) to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.^(AD) ³Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

⁴Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

⁵He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. ⁶Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians^(AE) how they might kill Jesus.^(AF)

Crowds Follow Jesus^(AG)

⁷Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.^(AH) ⁸When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.^(AI) ⁹Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. ¹⁰For he had healed many,^(AJ) so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.^(AK) ¹¹Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”^(AL) ¹²But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.^(AM)

Jesus Appoints the Twelve^(AN)

¹³Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.^(AO) ¹⁴He appointed twelve^[a]^(AP) that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach ¹⁵and to have authority to drive out demons.^(AQ) ¹⁶These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),^(AR) ¹⁷James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), ¹⁸Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot ¹⁹and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law^(AS)^(AT)

²⁰Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,^(AU) so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.^(AV) ²¹When his family^[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”^(AW)

²²And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem^(AX) said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!^(AY) By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”^(AZ)

²³So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:^(BA) “How can Satan^(BB) drive out Satan? ²⁴If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. ²⁵If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. ²⁶And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. ²⁷In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.^(BC) ²⁸Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, ²⁹but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”^(BD)

³⁰He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

³¹Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived.^(BE) Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. ³²A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”

³³“Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

³⁴Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! ³⁵Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

The Parable of the Sower^(BF)^(BG)

4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.^(BH) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. ²He taught them many things by parables,^(BI) and in his teaching said: ³“Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.^(BJ) ⁴As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. ⁵Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. ⁶But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. ⁷Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. ⁸Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”^(BK)

⁹Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”^(BL)

¹⁰When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. ¹¹He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God^(BM) has been given to you. But to those on the outside^(BN) everything is said in parables ¹²so that,

“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’^[c]”^(BO)

¹³Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? ¹⁴The farmer sows the word.^(BP) ¹⁵Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan^(BQ) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. ¹⁶Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. ¹⁷But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. ¹⁸Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; ¹⁹but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth^(BR) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. ²⁰Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

A Lamp on a Stand

²¹He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?^(BS) ²²For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.^(BT) ²³If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”^(BU)

²⁴“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.^(BV) ²⁵Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”^(BW)

The Parable of the Growing Seed

²⁶He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.^(BX) A man scatters seed on the ground. ²⁷Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. ²⁸All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. ²⁹As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”^(BY)

The Parable of the Mustard Seed^(BZ)

³⁰Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,^(CA) or what parable shall we use to describe it? ³¹It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. ³²Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”

³³With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.^(CB) ³⁴He did not say anything to them without using a parable.^(CC) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.

Jesus Calms the Storm^(CD)

³⁵That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” ³⁶Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.^(CE) There were also other boats with him. ³⁷A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. ³⁸Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

³⁹He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

⁴⁰He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”^(CF)

⁴¹They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man^(CG)^(CH)

5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.^[d] ²When Jesus got out of the boat,^(CI) a man with an impure spirit^(CJ) came from the tombs to meet him. ³This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. ⁴For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. ⁵Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

⁶When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. ⁷He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,^(CK) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?^(CL) In God’s name don’t torture me!” ⁸For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”

⁹Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”

“My name is Legion,”^(CM) he replied, “for we are many.” ¹⁰And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

¹¹A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. ¹²The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” ¹³He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

¹⁴Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. ¹⁵When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion^(CN) of demons,^(CO) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. ¹⁶Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. ¹⁷Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

¹⁸As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. ¹⁹Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them^(CP) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” ²⁰So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis^[e]^(CQ) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman^(CR)

²¹When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,^(CS) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.^(CT) ²²Then one of the synagogue leaders,^(CU) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. ²³He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on^(CV) her so that she will be healed and live.” ²⁴So Jesus went with him.

A large crowd followed and pressed around him. ²⁵And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding^(CW) for twelve years. ²⁶She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. ²⁷When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, ²⁸because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,^(CX) I will be healed.” ²⁹Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.^(CY)

³⁰At once Jesus realized that power^(CZ) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

³¹“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

³²But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. ³³Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. ³⁴He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.^(DA) Go in peace^(DB) and be freed from your suffering.”

³⁵While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.^(DC) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”

³⁶Overhearing^[f] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

³⁷He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.^(DD) ³⁸When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,^(DE) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. ³⁹He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”^(DF) ⁴⁰But they laughed at him.

After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. ⁴¹He took her by the hand^(DG) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).^(DH) ⁴²Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. ⁴³He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,^(DI) and told them to give her something to eat.

A Prophet Without Honor^(DJ)

6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,^(DK) accompanied by his disciples. ²When the Sabbath came,^(DL) he began to teach in the synagogue,^(DM) and many who heard him were amazed.^(DN)

“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? ³Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,^[g] Judas and Simon?^(DO) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.^(DP)

⁴Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”^(DQ) ⁵He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on^(DR) a few sick people and heal them. ⁶He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Jesus Sends Out the Twelve^(DS)

Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.^(DT) ⁷Calling the Twelve to him,^(DU) he began to send them out two by two^(DV) and gave them authority over impure spirits.^(DW)

⁸These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. ⁹Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. ¹⁰Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. ¹¹And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet^(DX) as a testimony against them.”

¹²They went out and preached that people should repent.^(DY) ¹³They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil^(DZ) and healed them.

John the Baptist Beheaded^(EA)^(EB)

¹⁴King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,^[h] “John the Baptist^(EC) has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”

¹⁵Others said, “He is Elijah.”^(ED)

And still others claimed, “He is a prophet,^(EE) like one of the prophets of long ago.”^(EF)

¹⁶But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”

¹⁷For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison.^(EG) He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married. ¹⁸For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”^(EH) ¹⁹So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, ²⁰because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man.^(EI) When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled^[i]; yet he liked to listen to him.

²¹Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet^(EJ) for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.^(EK) ²²When the daughter of^[j] Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests.

The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” ²³And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”^(EL)

²⁴She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”

“The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.

²⁵At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”

²⁶The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. ²⁷So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, ²⁸and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. ²⁹On hearing of this, John’s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand^(EM)^(EN)

³⁰The apostles^(EO) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.^(EP) ³¹Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat,^(EQ) he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

³²So they went away by themselves in a boat^(ER) to a solitary place. ³³But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. ³⁴When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.^(ES) So he began teaching them many things.

³⁵By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. ³⁶Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

³⁷But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”^(ET)

They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages^[k]! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”

³⁸“How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”

When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”^(EU)

³⁹Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. ⁴⁰So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. ⁴¹Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.^(EV) Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. ⁴²They all ate and were satisfied, ⁴³and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. ⁴⁴The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.

Jesus Walks on the Water^(EW)^(EX)

⁴⁵Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat^(EY) and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida,^(EZ) while he dismissed the crowd. ⁴⁶After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.^(FA)

⁴⁷Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. ⁴⁸He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, ⁴⁹but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.^(FB) They cried out, ⁵⁰because they all saw him and were terrified.

Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”^(FC) ⁵¹Then he climbed into the boat^(FD) with them, and the wind died down.^(FE) They were completely amazed, ⁵²for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.^(FF)

⁵³When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there.^(FG) ⁵⁴As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. ⁵⁵They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. ⁵⁶And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak,^(FH) and all who touched it were healed.

That Which Defiles^(FI)

7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus ²and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,^(FJ) that is, unwashed. ³(The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.^(FK) ⁴When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.^[l])^(FL)

⁵So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders^(FM) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

⁶He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:

“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
⁷They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’^[m]^(FN)

⁸You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”^(FO)

⁹And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe^[n] your own traditions!^(FP) ¹⁰For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’^[o]^(FQ) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’^[p]^(FR) ¹¹But you say^(FS) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— ¹²then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. ¹³Thus you nullify the word of God^(FT) by your tradition^(FU) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”

¹⁴Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. ¹⁵Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” ^[16]^[q]

¹⁷After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him^(FV) about this parable. ¹⁸“Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? ¹⁹For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods^(FW) clean.)^(FX)

²⁰He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. ²¹For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, ²²adultery, greed,^(FY) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. ²³All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”

Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith^(FZ)

²⁴Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.^[r]^(GA) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. ²⁵In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit^(GB) came and fell at his feet. ²⁶The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.

²⁷“First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

²⁸“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”

²⁹Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”

³⁰She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man^(GC)

³¹Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre^(GD) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee^(GE) and into the region of the Decapolis.^[s]^(GF) ³²There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,^(GG) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on^(GH) him.

³³After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit^(GI) and touched the man’s tongue. ³⁴He looked up to heaven^(GJ) and with a deep sigh^(GK) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). ³⁵At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.^(GL)

³⁶Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.^(GM) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. ³⁷People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand^(GN)^(GO)^(GP)

8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ²“I have compassion for these people;^(GQ) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. ³If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”

⁴His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”

⁵“How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.

“Seven,” they replied.

⁶He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. ⁷They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.^(GR) ⁸The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.^(GS) ⁹About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, ¹⁰he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.

2 And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.

²And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them.

³And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.

⁴And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

⁵When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.

⁶But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

⁷Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?

⁹Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?

¹⁷When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

¹⁸And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

¹⁹And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.

²⁰But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.

²¹No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.

¹⁵And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

¹⁶And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness;

¹⁷And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

¹⁸And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,

¹⁹And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

²⁰And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

²¹And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

²²For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

²³If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

²⁴And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

²⁵For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

²⁶And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground;

²⁷And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

²⁸For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.

²⁹But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

³⁰And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

³¹It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth:

³²But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

³³And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

³⁴But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

³⁵And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.

³⁶And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

³⁷And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

³⁸And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

³⁹And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

⁴⁰And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?

⁴¹And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

5 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

²And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

³Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:

⁴Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.

⁵And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

⁶But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,

⁷And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

⁸For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

⁹And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

¹⁰And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

¹¹Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.

¹²And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

¹³And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.

¹⁴And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.

¹⁵And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.

¹⁶And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.

¹⁷And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

¹⁸And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.

¹⁹Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.

²⁰And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.

²¹And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

²²And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

²³And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

²⁴And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.

²⁵And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,

²⁶And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

²⁷When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.

²⁸For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.

²⁹And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

³⁰And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

³¹And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

³²And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

³³But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

³⁴And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

³⁵While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

³⁶As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

³⁷And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

³⁸And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

³⁹And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.

⁴⁰And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.

⁴¹And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

⁴²And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

⁴³And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

6 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

²And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

³Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

⁴But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.

⁵And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.

⁶And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.

⁷And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

⁸And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:

⁹But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.

¹⁰And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.

¹¹And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

¹²And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

¹³And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

¹⁴And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

¹⁵Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.

¹⁶But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.

¹⁷For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife: for he had married her.

¹⁸For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

¹⁹Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:

²⁰For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

²¹And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;

²²And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.

²³And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom.

²⁴And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.

²⁵And she came in straightway with haste unto the king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.

²⁶And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath's sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.

²⁷And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,

²⁸And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.

²⁹And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

³⁰And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.

³¹And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

³²And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.

³³And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.

³⁴And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

³⁵And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:

³⁶Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.

³⁷He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?

³⁸He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.

³⁹And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass.

⁴⁰And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

⁴¹And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

⁴²And they did all eat, and were filled.

⁴³And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.

⁴⁴And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.

⁴⁵And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.

⁴⁶And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.

⁴⁷And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land.

⁴⁸And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he cometh unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.

⁴⁹But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:

⁵⁰For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.

⁵¹And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

⁵²For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.

⁵³And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.

⁵⁴And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,

⁵⁵And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.

⁵⁶And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

7 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.

²And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

³For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

⁴And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

⁵Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

⁶He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

⁷Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

⁸For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

⁹And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

¹⁰For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

¹¹But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

¹²And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

¹³Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

¹⁴And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

¹⁵There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

¹⁶If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁷And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

¹⁸And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

¹⁹Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

²⁰And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

²¹For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²²Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

²³All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

²⁴And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

²⁵For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

²⁶The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

²⁷But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

²⁸And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²⁹And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

³⁰And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

³¹And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

³²And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

³³And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

³⁴And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

³⁵And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

³⁶And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

³⁷And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

8 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,

²I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:

³And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.

⁴And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?

⁵And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.

⁶And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.

⁷And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.

⁸So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.

⁹And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.

¹⁰And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.

¹¹And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.

¹²And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.

¹³And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.

¹⁴Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.

¹⁵And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

¹⁶And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.

¹⁷And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?

¹⁸Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?

¹⁹When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.

²⁰And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.

²¹And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?

²²And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.

²³And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.

²⁴And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.

²⁵After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

²⁶And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.

²⁷And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?

²⁸And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.

²⁹And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.

³⁰And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.

³¹And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³²And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

³³But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

³⁴And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁵For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

³⁶For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

³⁷Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

³⁸Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

9 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

²And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.

³And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.

⁴And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.

⁵And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

⁶For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.

⁷And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

⁸And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

⁹And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

¹⁰And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

¹¹And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

¹²And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

¹³But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

¹⁴And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

¹⁵And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

¹⁶And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

¹⁷And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

¹⁸And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

¹⁹He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

²⁰And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

²¹And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

²²And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

²³Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

²⁴And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

²⁵When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

²⁶And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

²⁷But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

²⁸And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

²⁹And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

³⁰And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

³¹For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

³²But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

³³And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

³⁴But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

³⁵And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

³⁶And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

³⁷Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

³⁸And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

³⁹But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

⁴⁰For he that is not against us is on our part.

⁴¹For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

⁴²And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

⁴³And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

10 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.

²And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.

³And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?

⁴And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.

⁵And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.

⁶But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

⁷For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

⁸And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

⁹What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

¹⁰And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.

¹¹And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

¹²And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

¹³And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

¹⁴But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

¹⁵Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

¹⁶And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

¹⁷And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

¹⁸And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

¹⁹Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

²⁰And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

²¹Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

²²And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

²³And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

²⁴And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

²⁵It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁶And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?

²⁷And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.

²⁸Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.

²⁹And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,

³⁰But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.

³¹But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.

³²And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,

³³Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:

³⁴And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

³⁵And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.

³⁶And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?

³⁷They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.

³⁸But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

³⁹And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:

⁴⁰But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.

⁴¹And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.

⁴²But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

⁴³But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

⁴⁴And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

⁴⁵For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴⁶And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.

⁴⁷And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴⁸And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.

⁴⁹And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.

⁵⁰And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.

⁵¹And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.

⁵²And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.

11 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,

²And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.

³And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.

⁴And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.

⁵And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?

⁶And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.

⁷And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.

⁸And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.

⁹And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:

¹⁰Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

¹¹And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.

¹²And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:

¹³And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.

¹⁴And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

¹⁵And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

¹⁶And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.

¹⁷And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

¹⁸And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

¹⁹And when even was come, he went out of the city.

²⁰And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

²¹And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.

²²And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

²³For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

²⁴Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

²⁵And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

²⁶But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

²⁷And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,

²⁸And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?

²⁹And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.

³⁰The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.

³¹And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?

³²But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.

³³And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

12 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.

²And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.

³And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.

⁴And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.

⁵And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.

⁶Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.

⁷But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'

⁸And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

⁹What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.

¹⁰And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:

¹¹This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

¹²And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

¹³And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

¹⁴And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

¹⁵Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

¹⁶And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

¹⁷And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

¹⁸Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

¹⁹Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁰Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

²¹And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

²²And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

²³In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

²⁴And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

²⁵For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

²⁶And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

²⁷He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.

²⁸And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

²⁹And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

³⁰And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

³¹And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

³²And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:

³³And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.

³⁴And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

³⁵And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?

³⁶For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

³⁷David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

³⁸And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

³⁹And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

⁴⁰Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.

⁴¹And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

⁴²And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

⁴³And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

⁴⁴For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

13 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

²And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

³And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,

⁴Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

⁵And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:

⁶For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

⁷And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.

⁸For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

⁹But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.

¹⁰And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

¹¹But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.

¹²Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.

¹³And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

¹⁴But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

¹⁵And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:

¹⁶And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.

¹⁷But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

¹⁸And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.

¹⁹For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.

²⁰And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.

²¹And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:

²²For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

²³But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.

²⁴But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

²⁵And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

²⁶And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

²⁷And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

²⁸Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:

²⁹So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.

³⁰Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.

³¹Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

³²But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

³³Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

³⁴For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

³⁵Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:

³⁶Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.

³⁷And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

14 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

²But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

³And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

⁴And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

⁵For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

⁶And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
