Ang Pagkamatay ni Juan na Tagapagbautismo(A)
14 Ang balita tungkol kay Jesus ay nakarating kay Herodes na gobernador ng Galilea,[a] 2 kaya't nasabi niya sa kanyang mga lingkod, “Si Juan na Tagapagbautismo iyon! Siya'y muling nabuhay kaya't nakakagawa ng mga himala!”
3 Itong(B) si Herodes ang nagpahuli kay Juan. Ipinagapos niya ito at ipinabilanggo dahil kay Herodias na asawa ng kapatid niyang si Felipe. 4 Sapagkat(C) sinasabi ni Juan kay Herodes, “Bawal na magsama kayo ng asawa ng iyong kapatid.” 5 Ibig ni Herodes na ipapatay si Juan, ngunit natatakot siya sa mga Judio sapagkat kinikilala nilang propeta si Juan na Tagapagbautismo.
6 Nang sumapit ang kaarawan ni Herodes, sumayaw ang anak na babae ni Herodias sa harap ng mga panauhin. Labis na nasiyahan si Herodes, 7 kaya't sumumpa siyang ibibigay sa dalaga ang anumang hingin nito. 8 Sa udyok ng kanyang ina, sinabi ng dalaga sa hari, “Ibigay po ninyo sa akin ngayon din, sa isang pinggan, ang ulo ni Juan na Tagapagbautismo.” 9 Nalungkot ang hari, ngunit dahil sa kanyang pangakong narinig ng mga panauhin, iniutos niya na ibigay sa dalaga ang hiningi nito. 10 Kaya't pinapugutan niya si Juan sa bilangguan. 11 Inilagay ang ulo sa isang pinggan at ibinigay ito sa dalaga. Dinala naman ito ng dalaga sa kanyang ina.
12 Dumating ang mga alagad ni Juan, kinuha ang kanyang bangkay at inilibing. Pagkatapos, ibinalita nila kay Jesus ang nangyari.
Ang Mahimalang Pagpapakain sa Limanlibo(D)
13 Nang marinig ni Jesus ang pagkamatay ni Juan, sumakay siya sa isang bangka at pumunta sa isang lugar na walang tao. Ngunit nang mabalitaan naman iyon ng mga tao, sila'y naglakad papalabas sa kani-kanilang bayan at sinundan si Jesus. 14 Pagdating ni Jesus sa dalampasigan, nakita niya ang napakaraming taong iyon. Nahabag siya sa kanila at pinagaling niya ang mga maysakit na dala nila.
15 Nang dapit-hapon na'y lumapit sa kanya ang mga alagad. Sinabi nila, “Malapit na pong lumubog ang araw at liblib ang lugar na ito. Papuntahin na po ninyo sa mga kalapit na nayon ang mga tao upang makabili ng kanilang makakain.”
16 “Hindi na sila kailangang umalis. Bigyan ninyo sila ng makakain,” sabi ni Jesus.
17 Sumagot sila, “Wala po tayong pagkain kundi limang tinapay lamang at dalawang isda.”
18 “Dalhin ninyo rito,” sabi niya. 19 Pinaupo niya sa damuhan ang mga tao. Kinuha ang limang tinapay at dalawang isda, tumingala siya sa langit at nagpasalamat sa Diyos. Pinaghati-hati niya ang mga tinapay at iniutos sa mga alagad na ipamahagi iyon sa mga tao. 20 Nakakain at nabusog ang lahat. Nang ipunin ng mga alagad ang natirang pagkain, nakapuno pa sila ng labindalawang kaing ng tinapay. 21 May limanlibong lalaki ang nakakain, bukod pa sa mga babae at mga bata.
Lumakad si Jesus sa Ibabaw ng Tubig(E)
22 Agad pinasakay ni Jesus sa bangka ang mga alagad at pinauna sa kabilang ibayo. Samantala, pinauwi naman niya ang mga tao. 23 Matapos niyang paalisin ang mga ito, mag-isa siyang umakyat sa bundok upang manalangin. Nag-iisa siyang inabutan doon ng gabi. 24 Samantala, ang bangka ay nasa laot na ngunit sinasalpok ito ng mga alon dahil pasalungat ito sa hangin. 25 Nang madaling-araw na'y sumunod sa kanila si Jesus na naglalakad sa ibabaw ng tubig. 26 Kinilabutan sa takot ang mga alagad nang makita nilang may lumalakad sa ibabaw ng tubig. “Multo!” sigaw nila. 27 Ngunit nagsalita agad si Jesus at sinabi sa kanila, “Huwag kayong matakot, ako ito!”
28 Sinabi ni Pedro, “Panginoon, kung talagang ikaw nga iyan, papuntahin mo ako diyan sa kinaroroonan mo sa ibabaw ng tubig.”
29 Sumagot siya, “Halika.”
Mula sa bangka ay lumakad si Pedro sa ibabaw ng tubig papunta kay Jesus. 30 Ngunit nang mapansin niya na malakas ang hangin,[b] siya'y natakot at nagsimulang lumubog. “Panginoon, sagipin ninyo ako!” sigaw niya.
31 Agad siyang hinawakan ni Jesus. “Bakit ka nag-alinlangan? Napakaliit ng iyong pananampalataya!” sabi niya kay Pedro.
32 Pagkasakay nila sa bangka, tumigil ang hangin 33 at sinamba siya ng mga nasa bangka. “Tunay nga pong kayo ang Anak ng Diyos!” sabi nila.
Pinagaling ni Jesus ang mga Maysakit sa Genesaret(F)
34 Tumawid sila ng lawa at dumating sila sa baybayin ng Genesaret. 35 Si Jesus ay nakilala ng mga tagaroon at agad nilang ipinamalita ang kanyang pagdating, kaya't dinala ng mga tao ang lahat ng maysakit sa buong lupaing iyon. 36 Hiniling nila kay Jesus na mahawakan man lamang ng mga maysakit ang laylayan ng kanyang damit; at ang lahat ng gumawa nito ay nagsigaling.

14 When King Herod[a] heard about Jesus, 2 he said to his men, “This must be John the Baptist, come back to life again. That is why he can do these miracles.” 3 For Herod had arrested John and chained him in prison at the demand of[b] his wife Herodias, his brother Philip’s ex-wife, 4 because John had told him it was wrong for him to marry her. 5 He would have killed John but was afraid of a riot, for all the people believed John was a prophet.
6 But at a birthday party for Herod, Herodias’s daughter performed a dance that greatly pleased him, 7 so he vowed to give her anything she wanted. 8 Consequently, at her mother’s urging, the girl asked for John the Baptist’s head on a tray.
9 The king was grieved, but because of his oath, and because he didn’t want to back down in front of his guests, he issued the necessary orders.
10 So John was beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on a tray and given to the girl, who took it to her mother.
12 Then John’s disciples came for his body and buried it, and came to tell Jesus what had happened.
13 As soon as Jesus heard the news, he went off by himself in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds saw where he was headed and followed by land from many villages.
14 So when Jesus came out of the wilderness, a vast crowd was waiting for him, and he pitied them and healed their sick.
15 That evening the disciples came to him and said, “It is already past time for supper, and there is nothing to eat here in the desert; send the crowds away so they can go to the villages and buy some food.”
16 But Jesus replied, “That isn’t necessary—you feed them!”
17 “What!” they exclaimed. “We have exactly five small loaves of bread and two fish!”
18 “Bring them here,” he said.
19 Then he told the people to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and two fish, looked up into the sky, and asked God’s blessing on the meal, then broke the loaves apart and gave them to the disciples to place before the people. 20 And everyone ate until full! And when the scraps were picked up afterwards, there were twelve basketfuls left over! 21 (About five thousand men were in the crowd that day, besides all the women and children.)
22 Immediately after this, Jesus told his disciples to get into their boat and cross to the other side of the lake while he stayed to get the people started home.
23-24 Then afterwards he went up into the hills to pray. Night fell, and out on the lake the disciples were in trouble. For the wind had risen and they were fighting heavy seas.
25 About four o’clock in the morning Jesus came to them, walking on the water! 26 They screamed in terror, for they thought he was a ghost.
27 But Jesus immediately spoke to them, reassuring them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said.
28 Then Peter called to him: “Sir, if it is really you, tell me to come over to you, walking on the water.”
29 “All right,” the Lord said, “come along!”
So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. 30 But when he looked around at the high waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.
31 Instantly Jesus reached out his hand and rescued him. “O man of little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” 32 And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.
33 The others sat there, awestruck. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.
34 They landed at Gennesaret. 35 The news of their arrival spread quickly throughout the city, and soon people were rushing around, telling everyone to bring in their sick to be healed. 36 The sick begged him to let them touch even the tassel of his robe, and all who did were healed.

John the Baptist Beheaded(A)
14 At that time Herod(B) the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus,(C) 2 and he said to his attendants, “This is John the Baptist;(D) he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
3 Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison(E) because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,(F) 4 for John had been saying to him: “It is not lawful for you to have her.”(G) 5 Herod wanted to kill John, but he was afraid of the people, because they considered John a prophet.(H)
6 On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much 7 that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. 8 Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” 9 The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted 10 and had John beheaded(I) in the prison. 11 His head was brought in on a platter and given to the girl, who carried it to her mother. 12 John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it.(J) Then they went and told Jesus.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(K)(L)
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them(M) and healed their sick.(N)
15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”
16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
17 “We have here only five loaves(O) of bread and two fish,” they answered.
18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.(P) Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children.
Jesus Walks on the Water(Q)(R)
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.(S) Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,”(T) they said, and cried out in fear.
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage!(U) It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(V)
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”
29 “Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,”(W) he said, “why did you doubt?”
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”(X)
34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak,(Y) and all who touched it were healed.
